This is an interest check for a Dark Heresy idea I'd been cooking up for a little bit. For now, just looking to see if I actually have people interested in playing in a game. Books available are both the core book and Enemy Within.

Edit: Character creation rules!

You have a choice, roll or take points. Roll is 2d10+25 (3d10 take highest/lowest two for a +/- stat), rerolling one roll. If the rolls don't add up to at least 100, you can take 100 points spread between the ten stats. Or save the time and take the 100pts right away.

No mechanics is needed right now, just some basic info (heading to bed, will be amended when I get the chance)

Name:
Home World:
Background: (not an actual background, but the one you pick for mechanical bonuses)
Role:
Diviniation: (roll for this, 1d100)

And now the fluff-intro!

The Calixis Sector is a powder keg. Between the Tyrant Star and the Spinward Front, it is a hotbed of unrest just waiting to collapse into darkness as the Jericho sector once did. While the Astra Militum fights with countless souls in countless battles across the Sector, it is the Inquisition who move in hushed shadows and strike with silent precision. It is their task to uncover the countless heresies that ravage the Sector, to go where the massed forces of the Imperium cannot.

So, the idea is something akin to NCIS: Imperium of Man. Not only investigating heretics, alien and daemonic corruption, and general incompetence but also fighting the enemies of the Imperium in small skirmishes leading up to massive battles.

For character creation, you have two choices. Standard rolling or 100pts, then adding 25 to each of the values. If you roll under 100pts, you can choose to simply take the 100pts.

I'd be interested. I've never played before, however, but I have the core book.

I actually rather like it. Werid effect divinations are way better than stat ones imo. +20 is a pretty amazing bonus on a WS or dodge test. Good time to pull out those fancy moves.

Someone tags you, you get to hit them back. What more could a loyal servant of the Emperor ask?

 Name: Aracelis "Ace" Pentti
Home World: Frontier World
Background: Adeptus Arbites
Role: Seeker
Divination: Suffering is the unrelenting instructor

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Personality: Light-hearted and always in good cheer, Aracelis loves the chase and getting to show off her smarts and quick wits. She believes in results, not playing it by the book and for a cop she can be downright criminal at times.

Background: Aracelis Pentti has noble blood, coming from a distinguished family of cutthroats, smugglers and thieves. Her family's wealth was built upon the suffering of others and while her family pushed her into the local law enforcement so they'd have more family on the inside but the whole arrangement didn't set well with Aracelis at all, who pushed to get herself promoted to Arbites training and since an Arbites cannot serve on their home world she got the first ship out of there the moment she could. Her family wasn't willing to let go so easily though, she was expected to represent her blood regardless of her own wishes and this drove her further and further away from the civilized areas of space until she finally found solace in the frontier, where no one much cares who you are as long as you don't cause trouble.

Unfortunately, Aracelis likes causing trouble.

Working as a Tracer to hunt down scum hiding out in the planets not often glanced upon by imperial law she learned how to bring the Emperor's justice to places where the Emperor's name didn't hold much respect. Quick wits, a clever tongue, pinball smile and a talent for violence (It's a family trait) has kept her alive where stuffier Arbites would have died. The Inquisition finally took note of her when the Arbites told them of a girl who kept sending them criminals with most of the pieces still attached and disturbing reports from planets way beyond the usual jurisdictions. Her talent for finding people and getting them to spill their secrets is something the inquisition has a use for. Though she likes to claim that she's the only Arbites with a sense of humor and the Inquisition likes to collect rare breeds.

Name:           Trixalla 'Trix' (no known last name, former alias)
Home World: Hive World
Background: Adeptus Ministorum
Role:           Mystic
Divination:  Innocence is an illusion. (86)

At 2015-06-08 14:24:57, TheFourthShade (uid: 55451) rolls: 1d100 Result: 86

Personality: Thoroughly pious and believing in the Imperial Creed, Trixalla considers herself guided by the Emperor and charged with a duty above and beyond most psykers.  Though not outwardly arrogant, she believes that she has a higher purpose that can only be achieved through her hardest efforts and by the Grace of the Emperor.  To that end, she believes that her psychic powers are a boon that allow her to play a role when her skill at arms is simply not enough.

General Appearance: Trixalla is a lithe and tan skinned young woman with a completely bare head and plain street clothes.  Her green eyes stare out at the world with an understanding most lack.  She is blessed with a modest figure despite her complete lack of hair.  She wears a flak vest over her torso and a large revolver on her right hip.

Background
Trix didn't have a name when she was born.  In fact, she was kind of lucky to get to live in the first place.  In the Cavern Hives of Duralia, child soldiers were a common thing and many children were trained to death in the lower levels.  After all, the Hive itself was coming apart and she was on the wrong side.  She was lucky enough to be known as 'Trix', since she was a crafty fighter for one so young and often won training bouts through deception and skillfully applied skill at arms.  She was one of the lucky ones of her platoon, though.  She was the youngest, and she was standing in back.  The autogun fire that shredded a lot of her comrades left her mercifully alive and painfully wounded, and she managed to take cover in a nearby rock formation.  She prayed that the Emperor might spare her.

When the loyalists were driven back, the traitors recovered her...and she understood.  She knew she had been given a chance by the God Emperor that the leaders of the uprising spoke so poorly of.

Her injury kept her from the field of battle, where she was put to use instructing new recruits.  It was ultimately having to train children that broke her, and set her to sneak off one day.

It did not matter to her that she would likely die in the journey, getting caught by the traitors, or by getting caught on her arrival.  The Emperor would carry her to His side.

She slipped out at night.  In the darkness of the lower levels of the cavern hive, she was sure she would die.  To hear her tell the tale, the Emperor guided her along the way.  The truth of the matter depends on who you ask.  Of course, she's smart enough now that she's older to never tell the tale quite that way.  To say the Emperor guided you specifically invites the wrong sort of attention.

Managing to escape to what her people knew as the 'upper levels' of the Hive, the poor child stumbled into a camp set up for the care of the loyalist forces and collapsed promptly.

The Ecclesiarchy helped care for her, and it was that day that she knew that The Emperor had guided her all of this time.  She did her best to prove herself as a young Novitiate, and she did not tell anyone that she felt that the Emperor spoke just to her.  Killing was in her blood by that point, and that served her well.  When another Novitiate was accused of heresy, he lashed out with a hidden blade with great fury.

Trix took his blade from him and killed him with such savagery that there was little doubt of her hatred of heretics.  Her display impressed a member of the church who knew that the Duralian faithful needed a group of skillful killers to ensure that those who would hunt the preachers would be cowed by the thought of those shadowy guardians of the faithful.  She was taken aside and given what was referred to as a sacred calling: to hunt traitors and heretics in his name.

Her training progressed in earnest, and she was barely a woman when she was first sent out to hunt alone.  She kept getting terrible feelings about the whole affair, but she could not have known about the ambush...or the uncontrolled power that came forth as the bullets started flying.

The room chilled for an instant, before the air filled with a horrid screeching.  The distraction proved useful for surviving, but it drew in the hunters from the Black Ship.  They caught her when she commenced her second mission.

The feelings of dread she felt paled in comparison to the years of suffering in training.

However, she saw this too as a test from the Emperor and she faced it with faith that she would get through it in His name.

There were many days where she questioned herself, and many days where she feared that she would break like so many others...but she refused to give in.  She thought of the days on Duralia, and feared for those who she would let down if she gave in.  The traitors to the Imperium and the heretics who would undermine it had killed so many while opposing His righteous ways...

When she completed her Sanctioning, she was pressed into the service of a noble family.  The experience was...strange, to say the least.  They seemed so vicious, so elegant, and yet so foolish.  They had everything but still fought so viciously for more.  More over, they alternated between leering at her, drunkenly (or worse!) asking her to do tricks, and almost treating her like a member of their strange family!

It was there that she was given the name Trixalla, though many acts of debauchery and drug abuse often led to her being called Trix or Trixi by a lusty lordling...

Needless to say, she was almost grateful when she noticed that their abuses of power went far beyond simple drug abuse or greed.  The eldest son, the one who always called her Trixi and drunkenly slurred his requests for the most strange of deeds in the bedroom, let slip his heresy to her one night when he thought she was asleep.

She laid there, pretending to sleep but resting on the edge of consciousness, until he slipped off to sleep.  So disturbed was she that she fled that very night to inform the Ecclesiarchy of her knowledge.  She knew they would likely doubt her or even slay her, but she had to try.

It was certainly her good luck, then, that she ran into an agent of an Inquisitor, and life was never quite the same for her or that Hive...

Question, would you allow the Black Crusade version of Biomancy? Its more useful for healing.. and fighting, and utility. Would allow my proposed psyker to make a good healer while still being useful elsewhere. (Kinda ironic, the BC version of pyromancy is a joke, while the DH2 one is great, and its the other way around with Biomancy)

No problem! I am very keen for this. Yes indeed.

I got the supplements last night too, will give 'em a read after work and see if I need to jiggle anything on my sheet.

Baalborn87

Incidently. Despite being a walking toaster. "bert" is agile as f**k!

Bionics are pretty great!

And despite being a crack shot, Ace is far from agile. I'm hoping you make good meatshields.

Sub-dermal armour baby! 2Ap for that 1Ap for the robes plus my TB. I'm shrugging off anything up to 7 damage (providing it's Pen0)

Edit= Now I've got a copy of Enemies Within I was considering a Mutant as an alt. But the chances of getting my eagle winged duel pistol wilder are slim to say the least (5d10 on the mutations table and wings are 50-54).

Backstory:
'I was honored to grow up where Saint Congressa was laid to rest.  I was honored to pray in the most humble of her shrines.  I was honored to join the Fifth Martyrs Division.  I was honored to brave the horrors of void travel for my people.  I thought I would even have to leave the girl I loved, Urrica, who I had prayed with quietly under the care of the clerics and priests.   She never seemed to notice me, but...I would propose our union in the eyes of the God Emperor one day.

However, I was honored to go into battle with her.  I was honored to be charged by the God Emperor to win a battle for our planet AND to protect this woman in battle.  She would realize my love one day.

I was not prepared for the world known to our Division as 'a forest where the heretics came to die'.  It was the most horrifying thing I could imagine.  A place where witches ran around without the Emperor's sanctioneers control and, worse, they had planned to invade our world.

We were slaughtered.  They were ready for us.  Ground mounted cannons spat lead skyward, and I can tell you truly that I only survived by the grace of the God Emperor and the skill of our pilot.   I managed to drag Urrica from the ship and to keep her alive in the the firefight.

It took a lot of faith for me to survive what came next.

We were rescued by one of the local militias fighting the heretics in the confusion.  They were a rag tag bunch who looked to be little more than civilians who had cobbled together privately owned arms.  They wore trophies from their kills, some wearing fingers and one even had an eye that was starting to rot. Only one other from my squad yet lived at that point.  Urrica.   She was badly injured despite the best efforts of those they called 'sawbones' and it was all I could do to pray with her, to try to keep her strong, as I recovered from my own injuries.

The day I had recovered, the day I promised that I would win this fight so we could go home together...she shot herself.  I remember the smell of brain burning, the look in her eyes as they filled with blood.

God Emperor preserve me.  I'll never forget Urrica.  Not until the day I drop dead, and I'll send every last one of those damned traitors on to the God Emperor's judgment for her.

I buried her las pistol with her.'

Alaric took up fighting for the militias then, knowing that he would be counted amongst the lost and all efforts to return to his unit would be wasted if the heretics were not beaten.

He assisted officers in strategy meetings, in training troops, and running protection details for specialists on operations.  He learned to be quick on the draw, good at laying ambushes, and how to steel his mind against the intrusion of heretics.  He was known as Ghalib amongst the locals after a famed Warlord in their histories and, though he did not take trophies, he claimed many heads.

He gladly assisted off-worlders who claimed to work for the Inquisition when they, with likely only hours to spare, stopped the Psyker Rebellion and put the last of them down.  How could he refuse when they told him they would overlook his desertion as long as he worked for the Inquisition?

'Truth be told, just for a second, I thought about telling her no so she'd put a bullet through my head and be done with it.  But the God Emperor's grace shined through her, and I knew that Urrica would want me to keep going...'

Backstory:
Is this thing on? Oh, ok.

I was born on Fenksworld, a Hive World by Imperial reckoning. I was raised to revere the Emperor and respect those who represented him among the Hive. The Arbites and on occasion, the Astartes, should they ever make an appearance. Life was hard but good.

Then one day one of the Astartes appeared in our home with my younger brother in tow. Evidently, the Astartes had caught my brother fighting and had taken a shine to him. They took him to begin the process of becoming one of them. I would have too, except the Marine said I was too old to safely begin the process but he gave a recommendation that I be put into the Adeptus Arbites academy. Three days later I began that journey. I graduated second in my class, but only by the barest of margins. I had heard that there had been an Emperor blessed argument about who should have been Valedictorian, but numbers didn't lie and Nicodemus 'Beowulf' Trenton beat me by what I later learned was a .03 percent margin.

The first three years of service were the usual for any Arbites. Long hours, damnable shifts, and the shit work no one else wanted to do. But then I stumbled onto something that changed my life, that in hindsight I should have simply handled myself. Beowulf, as we called him, had a predilection for the ladies and a penchant for the  by-the-seat-of-your-pants plans, He was a bit of an arrogant ass, but never had I thought him capable of becoming a Chaos Cultist. I'd come over to his home intent on asking him to cover a shift for me, since my sister was to be married later that week but I was scheduled to work, despite my request for appropriate leave.

The door to his abode was cracked open, and I felt that hair tingling instinct that something was wrong. Calling it in, I slipped in, my duty maul at the ready. What I saw left it's mark on me. Nicodemus Trenton knelt over a body with it's rib cage spread open, blood running from his lips as he chewed on what I could only assume was a body organ as he inscribed the Mark of Chaos on his body.

He attacked before I could even ask what the hell was going on. I now know where the difference in our scores came from. I was the better combatant by the smallest of margins and it was that margin that saved me from being stuck by the sacrificial dagger Nicodemus was using. We fought until I slammed his head into the plascrete flooring until unconsciousness claimed him.

Reinforcements arrived and the rest is all in reports. Soon an Inquisitor arrived and interrogated me at length before deeming me clean of the taint of Chaos. The next day, Nicodemus escaped mere hours before dawn. No one knows how he managed it. One minute he was in his cell, the next he was gone without a trace. The pict-recordings are clear as day that no one let him free.

But I wouldn't learn that until the next day until after.....

A new voice is heard on the recording: “Please continue, Officer. Nothing you say here is unknown to us but we record it only for Ordos records.”

The original voice picks back up, a crack in his otherwise steady voice. ”Until the massacre at my sister's wedding. He appeared out of nowhere behind the Altar to the Emperor and spewed some rhetoric about the End Times and how the Corpse Emperor could no longer protect us from the True Gods. Then all manner of hell broke loose as.... things.... appeared and started killing everyone they could get their claws into. My mother was the first to die.

I managed to avoid being killed only because I attacked the Heretic. At that point as far as I was concerned, Nicodemus Trenton was dead. The thing wearing his corpse just needed to be put down. We struggled there in front of the altar for what felt an eternity until the statue of the Emperor fell over breaking into bits. He managed to get free and he uttered some filth that I didn't understand and Emperor's Truth, I never do. Green flames lashed out at me, but I was safeguarded as the Emperor seemed to reach out and shield me by having his statue roll back over onto me.

It shattered into dozens of pieces but the sword he carried broke off nearly whole. Nicodemus moved to see that I was dead, moving rubbled out of the way allowing me to impale him through the throat with the stone sword. The creatures, these daemons, they all seemed to scream then vanish like smoke in the wind.

I was taken to the Medicae for the treatment of my wounds. Once more I was investigated and interrogated by the Inquisitor and deemed free of corruption. She turned to leave and I grabbed her coat with a bloody hand and demanded to learn how to do what she did. To Hunt the Heretic and the Xenos. She only smiled and left.

Before I knew it, I was shuttled offworld to become what I am now. And Adept of the Inquisition.”

Right! Got invited into this game and I guess I'm the last one, so here we go. those important things like background, personality and appearance to be tossed up shortly

Cathari Alaskel
Homeworld: Feral World
Background: Adeptus Astra Telepathica
Role: Mystic
Divination: A mind without purpose wanders in dark places - When gaining Mental Disorders, the character may choose to gain a new Disorder instead of increasing the severity of an existing Disorder.

Personality: Cathari is entirely too cheerful for an abhuman witch acolyte. At least one of those things should have dampened her spirit, be it the legions of demons who want a snack, or the dealing with the darker and more warped side of humanity, or the constant prejudice from baseline humans. One has to wonder what kind of death world she was picked up on that being drafted to the Inquisitorial meat grinder is a vast improvement, but she thoroughly enjoys her work and her role.
