Is there a special name for that sort of half mannequin that people use to alter garments?

Thanks

I've heard it called a dressmaker's dummy.  I think some use the term dressmaker's form or mannequin, also.

I've heard the terms "dressmaker dummy" as well, and also "dress form", if that helps. :-)

Thank you ;D

You're welcome.  My grandmother hand one and I used to dress it up and play with it when I was a girl.  I had forgotten about that.  Thank you for reminding me.

My writing leads me into topics I never before imagined, and the friendly assistance of women here is always appreciated!

And thank you Caeli also!
