Our End

How many nights lain awake
plagued by the shadows,
begging God for any respite as
the ghosts echo over and over
through our battered mind.

How many times did our heart
worry amid the restless slumber
as we  p a c e d  and  p a c e d,
felt the terror of the mocking lights.

The fears came true because you
didn’t stop to think about you.

Never wanted to wear
sweaters in the summer.

Don’t always have to be so curious.
Let our imagination readjust the crown,
wash away the hypocritical after taste,
and r u n,  r u n,  r u n  a w a y
from the sirens dancing in moonlight.

The true price to be paid is loss.
Our dreams, our hopes, our worth,
the very heart of our mourning soul,
to become an abandoned shell of
once were and could have been.

No going back to start again.
All we can do is change our end.
