Darkcide

Hello all, as some of you may know? I'm an absolutely huge metal head. I went to see Megadeth/Testament/Slayer live a few days ago and now I'm wanting to do a metal themed group role lol. It isn't a requirement, but having good background knowledge regarding the music & culture is definitely appreciated.

The group itself will be the conception of a 21 year old college student who is out and looking to recruit members for a new band he wants to start. The group in question is thus far named Hellblazer. He wants to create a band the likes of which the world hasn't ever seen, and to respect the music he loves. In general the group as he sees it will have several influences such as Early Metallica, Slayer, Ministry, Dream Theater, TooL, Nine Inch Nails, Lamb of God, Mastodon and a host of other groups. The best way I could describe his vision is an Industrial-Thrash band with progressive, groove and metalcore influences.

Overall I'd like to see this start from the group's formation and to progress through local success and eventual superstardom. Outside of the metal culture and the music, I always find myself interested in the personalities that make up a band. Like how do they get on with each other? Will the group have all of its original members down the line? I love the behind the scenes aspect.

So what I'm looking for:
Band (I want to have at least two females in the band for the sake of balancing, I might include more positions in the band if need be. We shall see.)

Vocalist & Sometimes Guitarist-Taken.
Lead Guitar-Taken by Kaya.
Rhythm Guitar-Taken by Wyrd.
Bass Guitar-Open
Drums & Percussion-Taken by Camie.
Keyboardist & Programmer

Other Possible Roles include:
Significant Others of Band Members.
Roadies.
The Mascot.
Groupies.
Fans that travel with the band and could be considered unofficial members.
A Manager.
Producers.
Security.
Rival Musicians, thus far Jocelyn and whoever else she wills to be in the group.

A Character Sheet would look something like this. Categories with * next to them, means for potential band members only.

*Favorite Genre: Thrash Metal.
*Musical Style: In terms of his vocals he's able to scream and do animalistic growls like Randy Blythe. However his normal singing voice is somewhere between Maynard Keenan and Lajon Witherspoon. Except he usually adds a growl of sorts in for effect that is a homage to Tom Araya. Typically his writing centers around war, murder, religion, demonic imagery, nightmares and anger and feelings of isolation.
Fashion Sense: Desmond wears a lot of black, he likes to show off his physique a lot and wears wifebeaters often. A fan of combat boots, biker jackets, sunglasses and Cargos.
Personality: Desmond is something of a control freak. He is also quite aggressive and brutally honest. Desmond suffers from depression which he masks with his charismatic personality and womanizing. He isn't unfriendly, but he can be difficult to get on with at times. He has a lot of pride, and is very loyal to the people he cares about.
Sexuality: Straight.
Marital Status: Divorced, currently single.
Occupation (At Start): College student majoring in psychology. Also a bouncer at a fairly upscale strip club.
Short Bio: Desmond was abused as a child by his father's girlfriend, which left deep scars inside of him. He got into fights at the drop of a hat, and frequently went to juvenile detention centers. Eventually he left his father's home at 16 as he couldn't deal with his now step mother and her children. Desmond supported himself by lying about his age and working as a bartender. Eventually when he was 17 he met a girl at a concert and they started dating. Eventually the two got married, but were divorced in under a year when he was 19. Desmond decided to focus on school but was unsatisfied and wanted to start a band. He'd been receiving vocal instruction for years and had sang in his church choir as a child, when he actually went.

Kaya

Name: Meisa Kuroki

Age: 20

Height: 5'7"

Weight: 107 lbs

Origin: Japanese / Brazilian

Piercings (If any): Bellybutton, ears

Eye Color: deep brown

Hair Color & Style: black hair, she wears it long and open usually, but she can put it up depending on the occasion.

Physical Appearance (Pictures can be used):

*Instrument & Place in Band: Lead Guitar or Rhythm Guitar, backing vocals & occasional lead vocals if the song calls for female vocals

*Major Influences In terms of Bands & Musicians: Dream Theater, Symphony X, Ayreon, Pain of Salvation. She actually met John Petrucci in Japan and had the opportunity to jam with him.

*Favorite Genre: Progressive Metal

*Musical Style: She has quick fingers, and she has a good sense for melodies. Her solos are fast when they need to be, but always melodic.

Fashion Sense: Meisa has starred in two Japanese Pop videos (see below), but she had no control there. She still likes to dress in a feminine way, she could very well be wearing a dress on stage, or leather pants and some sexy top.

Personality: Bubbly, outgoing, extroverted. She likes to be admired, but she also has a big heart and if someone or something captures her interest she can be relentless.

Sexuality: heterosexual

Marital Status:
single

Occupation (At Start): Waitress

Short Bio: Meisa was always interested in music. She is the daughter of a Brazilian father and a Japanese mother, which produced an exotic combination. Since a very young age, she has been drawn to the guitar, and her parents supported her. First it was the classical accoustic guitar, you know, the kind of guitar that works without an amp.

She enjoyed listening to the more complicated and progressive tunes and heavy guitars were the thing for her. When she turned 18, she sent out self-made videos to record labels, with her playing the electric guitar and singing to it. She actually got an offer from Sony Japan, but they wanted her to do Pop, because they liked her look. The money was very interesting, so she accepted. She should find out soon that it was a mistake. The first single they did with her was very lame in her ears, but she played along. The video was basically a soft-porn and they did something to her voice, making it sounding rather squeaky, something Japanese males enjoyed - and the video was obviously aiming at this target audience. This is this embarrassment (watch at your own risk):

Meisa Kuroki - Bad Girl

The second single was a bit better, still, Meisa would call it "stupid, dummed-down crap". The voice was still squeaky, and the music was, well, judge for yourself. At least the record company let her show a bit of her true personality in the video (again, watch at your own risk):

Meisa Kuroki -Are ya ready

At least this led to her meeting John Petrucci (who was touring Japan with Dream Theater) at a TV show where she "performed" the song. Petrucci was amazed when she told him backstage that she prefered the guitar much more and actually hated the pop music she was doing currently. That led to him inviting her to jam with him. She must have impressed him quite a bit, because he also invited her to play with the band. That again led to her playing one song with Dream Theater in Tokyo on stage. That experience made her quit her deal with Sony, and she went to America, where she became a waitress for the time being, looking for the right band.

Note: This character has nothing to do with the real person Meisa Kuroki.

Kaya

Hi Jocelyn and welcome from me!

I am wondering, if there are not enough players, would you consider dropping the rival band?

Jocelyn Isnt Here

Definitely! I hope that we do get enough players though. I planned on messaging my friends about it now. When did you all plan on starting?

Hey, I'd like reserve a place in this RP if you still need a  rhythm or bass player and backing/clean/harsh vocals with a style like ICS Vortex from Dimmu Borgir, or like that of Jari Maenpaa from Wintersun. I'm a big metal fan of all types, and i'd like to apart of this if their is still room.

Omniferious

I'd like to reserve a spot as the bassist for Jocelyn's rival band.

Wyrd

Bio: James grew up in a small town about an hour north of Toronto. After hearing the song 'I Want Out!' by Helloween at the age of 12, he fell in love with heavy metal of all  types. He eventually moved to Toronto and started his own Power Metal band called 'IcebounD'. after a few years  together, the other members of 'IcebounD' kicked James out of the band, because the others wanted to turn 'IcebounD' into a Deathcore band and James wanted to be what he called "True Metal". After that James moved to the United States to try and reassemble or join a new band that might make it in the music world.

Yay! Darkcide.. how many people were you planning on joining?

Doomsday

Is there any room for a harsh/death growl vocalist slash rhythm guitarist? Here's a simple writeup/application.

(This sort of seems like a Supergroup hodgepodge of different characters from different locales with different backgrounds, so here's my chance to be different :-)  So if you think my character resembles Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth a lot... He probably does. Hell, I'm using his picture!)

Name: Danny Söderström
Age: 29 (the greybeard of the band?)
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 204 lbs.
Origin: Stockholm, Sweden / New York, NY
Notable Features (If Any): A very dashing moustache, and a very good grasp of the English language despite his Swedish nationality.
Tattoos (If any): None
Piercings (If any): None
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color & Style: Lightish brown, worn long and naturally straight
Physical Appearance (Pictures can be used): Picture above. He is in good shape, having served two years of mandatory military service after he turned 18.
*Instrument & Place in Band: Either Rhythm or Bass, whatever needs to be filled... Harsh or clean vocals, whatever is needed.
*Major Influences In terms of Bands & Musicians: Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Emperor, Ensiferum.
*Favorite Genre: Progressive -Metal- (Could be death metal, could be metalcore... Anything progressive.)
*Musical Style: Progressive.
Fashion Sense: Almost casual. Usually, blue jeans, and a T shirt sporting an older band. Like this, this, or this. No obligation to the color black, but that doesn't mean he won't wear it.
Personality: Danny is usually the most laid back person in the band, in every band he's ever been in. Witty, but no comedian. Also being the oldest, he sometimes likes to play 'group counselor' whenever his band mates have a problem they want to talk out.
Sexuality: Hetero and kinky
Marital Status: On again, off again relationships. He usually finds his satisfaction between tours, or with the occasional overzealous groupie.
Occupation (At Start): He started in a university as soon as he had finished his military service at the age of 20, but before he could graduate, he joined a metal band. He's been in a few bands before coming to Hellblazer.
Short Bio: Heh, there isn't much that I couldn't put here that I haven't already put into my other sections. He had good grades until he began his compulsary service at 18, began to strive for an electrical engineering degree after he had left the military, and somewhere in between college and the eventual union with Hellblazer, he had a wife, a child, and eventually, a divorce.

His first band was really just an experiment with a few college friends. It was supposed to be straight up death metal, but most of his friends liked to play jazz music, so they had a very unique sound that got them a lot of attention. Eventually, though, the group drifted away, as it turned out that Danny was the only one with talent and ambition. After spending a few months without being involved in music, another friend of his asked him to join a band called Warpaint, which embodied the progressive death sound that Danny would someday carry to Hellblazer. They earned a huge underground following throughout Western Europe, but by the time they began to earn popular recognition, drugs and drama had torn the group apart, which lead to Danny moving to New York, trying to scratch the itch he had formed while playing music he loved.

*Favorite Genre:  Industrial/Thrash

*Musical Style:  great rhythm and the ability to keep the rhythm going and has been considered aggressive.

Fashion Sense:  Addison has a mixture in style she could be wearing a pair of jeans and a band t-shirt, skirts, leather pants and tops that would allow her tattoo to be seen for the most part.

Sexuality:  Heterosexual

Marital Status:  Single

Occupation (At Start):  Telemarketer

Short Bio:  Addison grew up in the small town of Cairo, Georgia and learned to play the drums at the age of twelve.  As with most small town girls she longed for bigger places eventually moving from city to city starting at the age of nineteen.  Her job as a telemarketer isn’t her favorite but it does pay the bills for the most part.  Addison has been in a couple of bands since she was twelve but none of the members ever as serious as she was about music, as they considered it just a hobby and not a career.

Ok, I am back from a two day personal trip lol. Time to play catch up!

Jocelyn, that works out. I don't know how many people I plan on having join, not everyone would be posting constantly you know? So I'll say the number is open ended but the main group? It'll have 6 people, as for your group? You're welcome to get a full roster if you want. Then we can discuss a bond of some sort or something of that nature that exists between the groups so you'll be able to be more involved in the thread?

I guess I plan on starting when we're able to get a full band, but if I had my way? We'd start by say Saturday? If not sooner.

Wyrd that works out, welcome to the group. Nice axe.

Camie that is definitely still open and yours now.

lol everyone wants to do vocals. The vocal spot is filled Doomsday with one main one and two potential backing ones. The bass spot is currently open though and yours if you want it?

I am also liking everyone's character profiles by the way.

So all that leaves for the main group, is a keyboardist and programmer unless everyone would prefer to not have one?

Doomsday

Doomsday

Bass is a fate worse than death, so I'll play lead or Rhythm with Jocelyn.

Darkcide

Do whatever makes you happy, you need to talk to her about that. It is her group.

Just look at Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, John Myung or even Paul McCartney or Sting. It's not such a bad fate to play the bass.

Bass is so essential, one only has to compare Metallica's first three albums with the latter material. Even ..And Justice For All. Cliff Burton was a madman.
