Rhedyn's Forest - Fantasy Community RP - Interest Check

Rhedyn, mistress of her forest invites you to her home, a place of supernatural creatures and delights. I like to think of this game as the building of a fantasy community RP in the setting of a forest as opposed to a town or such.

I am looking for a wide range of participants to play both residents of the forest and victims visitors for a long running RP based in this setting. I like to think that the idea is lenient and appealing for both those looking for long and short term characters, permanent roles or the ability to come and go at ease when the mood takes them if they are visitors. I plan to run events for participation in the forest along with gradually moving a plot forward too and want to offer a place for people to develop their characters and their own stories within the setting as well.

Residents would, on the whole, all be supernatural creatures, mainly sticking to certain predetermined races though the characteristics of the races and indeed the races themselves are up for discussion. While I have a lot of ideas I am very open to the input of anyone who wants to play. The races I had envisioned thus far are elves, elemental spirits, faeries and shapeshifters (gnomes are also a possibility if there is interest to play one).

Elves: elf characters may choose between specialising in magic (harnessing one of the elemental powers of which the choice is yours) or physical; naturally agile with the choice of either ranged or close combat.

Elemental Spirits: elementals have a humanoid corporeal form and can become one with their element, for example, a water elemental can become water. There is the choice between earth, air, fire, water which also grants limited abilities with that element.

Faeries: the ability to shrink small or take full size form. They have wings in both forms but can only fly in their small form.

Shapeshifters: they may shift from human into animal form at any time day or night as long as they have the energy/are not injured. Players may choose one animal form for their shifter. The natural senses of their animal remain with them in human form such as keen sense of smell (dependant on the animal).

If anyone has any suggestions for other character races or amendments to those stated then please say and I will look over the proposals and decide.

Visitors must be human, though within that constraint I am very lenient. Sorcerers, adventurers, damsels in distress, abductees…all are welcome. Human visitors may become residents in the forest as slaves, masters or partners of the residents. A few who earn the right are granted their own residences without this condition being in place, though this is a rarity.

All characters must be approved and have limitations to their abilities, particularly if they are magic users. Residents limitations are usually racial, such as a faery's inability to fly in full size form. Pictures in the appearance section of the character form are welcome and encouraged.

Time Scale: I intend to run this game with a time scale of either 1 day being equal to 1 hour game time or 2 days being equal to 1 hour game time, though this is up for discussion depending on what suits everyone else.

Feel free to ask questions. I have a lot of information on my ideas for the game though did not want to bog down the thread with it until I knew there was some interest. In all likelihood I will class this game as extreme to cover all possible avenues for people who wish to play.

I might be interested, but just to make sure I understand this: Instead  of having one overlapping plot, you want to focus on encounters between the forest natives and the outsiders? Do you expect all player characters to be outsiders, or are some to be forest natives?

Player characters can be either forest natives or outsiders. I think of it as building up a fantasy style community within the setting of the forest. There will be plot pushes, events etc that effect everyone as we go though people will be developing their own personal stories through the game too. I fully expect there to be tensions between the races of the forest that will have some influence on how they react to one another, all of which is to be determined.

Outsiders in fact are not necessary to the RP as it stands though I like the idea of humans discovering/being brought to the forest and want the option available for people. I hope that answers your question/makes it a little clearer.

I would be interested in playing an outsider, though I could do with a forest native if that would work out better in the long run.

I'm more than happy for you to play an outsider. I will be playing three native characters as it is and hopefully we will have others wanting to play them too. I will post up a basic character sheet shortly in the first post for anyone interested to think about and fill in along with some more info on the game.

Edit 2: Apologies. I have thought of a better way to run this for me; as a series of smaller stories and scenarios than a more open run RP. If anyone is interested (particularly outsider characters) then feel free to PM me, otherwise I will advertise for single scenarios in the future to run in this setting.
