The Truck was laden down with all the apparent necessities, and probably things they wouldn't even need. But you never knew. What if, right? The items in the back consisted of all the camping gear they could think of that they possessed. Even a few new things they hadn't. There were even a few things she didn't understand even how they worked. She shrugged as she put them in with the other items. Why a camping trip? she thought to herself. Why not a nice hotel somewhere? she shrugged, and the last of the things were secured down.

Climbing in she settled into her seat and pulled out her small travel bag. Book, check. Crossword, check. Cards, check. Dice, check. She was pretty sure there were other things that would be needed, but hopefully they would not stray too far off the beaten path.
She smiled as she waited for Lonestar to climb into the cab. She didn't want to seem prissy, but the idea of dirt and grime was not exactly her idea of a vacation.

Lonestar watched as Rozel took inventory of the items stored securely in the truck bed as he piled on the last of the potentially needed items. He then walked to the drivers side of the truck and climbed up into the seat. He turned to gaze at Rozel who had taken her spot beside him. She was strikingly gorgeous her shoulder length auburn framing her face perfectly. "Do you think we have everything we'll need?" he asked with a small chuckle.

Lonestar produced a small key from his shirt pocket, put it in the ignition and fired the truck up with a small burst of dirty black smoke. Putting the truck into gear he pulled it out of the driveway and onto the street. "I suppose you are curious as to why I chose roughing it in nature as opposed to a comfortable hotel somewhere?" He mused slightly, "Well, it is like this." He paused slightly. "I justed wanted us to get back to nature live off the land for a week or so...you know fish, hunt, pick berries, and forage for other forms of food....what do you think?" He glanced sideways over at Rozel

At his question, she shrugged lightly. If we don't have everything, I am sure we will by the time we get back. As he started the truck and pulled out of the drive, she noticed that the sun was emerging from behind the fluffy white clouds.

Roughing it. Sounds like fun... she thought sarcastically, but didn't say so. I thought we were supposed to be relaxing. I hope I am not going to have to compete with the bugs for food. She gasped suddenly. I forgot bug spray!  I knew there was something I was forgetting. She didn't have the heart to ask him to turn around. How far out are we going anyhow? You never did say exactly where we were headed.

She settled into her seat a bit more, getting comfortable and pulled out her crossword to entertain herself.

"Well,  remember when my colleague at work told us about that nice little camping spot he stayed at by the lake?" He said, "I got him to give me driving directions to it!" Lonestar smiled. "Yes, we will need the bug spray stuff. We'll have to find a store or something along the way"

Lonestar turned the truck onto the main road through town and began the drive towards the highway. "Are you telling me that you've never gone camping before this day Roz?" He asked her, "I admit myself not having much experience camping but what is there to know really?"

Lonestar busied himself with finding some traveling music on the radio while he awaited her response

Oh boy. She laughed suddenly. You don't have much experience, and I really.. have avoided it until now. Why does this suddenly remind me of the Beverly Hillbillies, but .. in the reverse? She mused over the puzzle but did not really read any words. She then looked at him and winked. Remind me who that Buddie is of yours later, so that I can thank him when we get back. She giggled then, hoping that she didn't sound too serious. She was up for the challenge of the outdoors. As long as there was a place to wash her hands, that was all that mattered. And maybe a bathing area.

Putting the booklet away. Well, lets not really worry for now.. lets just get there before it gets dark and get things set up. I am sure everything will be fine. She thought for a moment. You are not going to make me touch worms are you? She said with a wry smile. Fishing I can do, worms and....She shuddered lightly.

*reminds himself to keep his friends' identity secret* "yeah I sure will Roz" Lonestar agreed...weakly. "Did you need to stop for anything special before we hit the freeway?" he asked. He continued to drive through town looking at the odd shops scattered here and there taking time to look over at Roz. no matter how often he got to look at her he was still dumbfounded by her graceful features figure and auburn hair. It made him fall in love all over again every time.

At his question, she looks at him thinking. Nope. It should be ok about the bugs. And if they get too bad, then we can always leave to get some spray. I just don't feel like getting out of the truck again. Want to get there, get things set up and settled. She said in a tone that was almost that of convincing herself, more than anything.

She had been quietly thinking about it and she was starting to get used to the idea of camping. Maybe it won't be too bad.

Ok then we shall continue along our way then. He pulled the truck onto the freeway headed east towards the rising sun and soon got up to speed and set the cruise. He then focused his attention on that of his beautiful companion Rozel. So, what should be our first plan of attack? He asked her. We should be there in 2 hours. He smiled a wry smile and winked at her. Shall we go fishing for food, chop some wood for a fire, or maybe just sit in the cabin that will be there fully stocked with basic needs for a good time! He let out a small chuckle at the revelation.

She gave him a sour look, though it was not genuine in nature. Ha. Ha. She said. Knowing he was poking fun at her. She lightened her expression. Lets just play it by ear, shall we? I think once we have things unloaded, fishing will probably be needed.. if you want to eat. She tossed back her own kind of fun poke toward him. Do you know if the cabin has a way of cooking inside? Secretly she hoped for cooking inside, but doubted that it would be.

He laughed when she did knowing that the sour look never meant anything. you're right we will need to catch some food...i can handle that part. He smiled as he sensed a sigh of relief part from her lips.  My friend says that the cabin is equipped with a generator but, I think it is only for the icebox. I'm sure we'll manage either way though. The noon day sun was straight overhead when he pulled off of the main highway and onto a lower classed secondary road. Just another 10-15 miles from here according to the directions given to me. He turned his gaze slightly to Rozel. Don't worry about a thing...we are going to have a great time and long week-end without hassle

Sounds like cooking over an outdoor pit... But her words were cut short by the sudden lurch of the truck and a spit and sputter. She looked at Lone and almost winced. What.. Her hands came to rest on the dash in front of her. Oh no... she said as the truck came to halt quickly. How far away are we?

A look of concern crosses his face as the truck begins to spurt and sputter. He looks over at Roz to see her gripping the dashboard tightly. Oh for Pete's sake He began, what can be the trouble with this thing now. He wondered, besides it being 15 years old and in dire need of an oil change....brake work...complete over-haul. He got out of the truck and popped the hood open looking at the engine like he knew what he was doing. Well, it is nearly 10 miles which doesn't sound like far but when you're walking... his voiced trailed off. He rummaged for his cell phone but couldn't find it anywhere. that is when it dawned on him he purposely left it at home so he could spend the long week-end with Roz and not tied to the office in any way. An idea which is now haunting him. Well, he began, I'll pack up the most essential of items and we'll lock everything else here in the cab and begin to hike it...what will you need the most? he asked.

I don't mind walking in, but should we just leave the truck like this? She looked to him with concern. Maybe someone can help us.. She climbed out of the truck to look for any sort of traffic, not seeing any yet.

Why don't we wait for a little while. It has to be something simple. She tried to remember the last time the truck had acted the same way. She looked up to the sky. Oh, please someone come by and help us. She said to herself silently.

Perhaps you are right He said, we better not leave the truck stuck out here. Lonestar began scanning the highway up and down searching from any approaching traffic. feeling a little discouraged he went to stand beside Rozel and gripped her in a tight hug. I'm so sorry this trip hasn't started out as planned, he began, I'll make it up to you once we get to the cabin on the lake, ok?

Almost an hour had passed and there was not one vehicle in either direction. He was feeling really dejected when he thought he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. He stood away from the truck a short distance and shaded his eyes with his hand. Sure enough there was a truck heading this way. Rozel! there's a truck coming honey! he voice sounded surprisingly uplifted at this realization he just had to hope now that they would be able to help them out. he ran and stood partly in the roadway so that the driver could see them and he watched as the driver slowed his vehicle to a stop.

The truck that stopped was huge. It wasn't quite a Semi-Tractor, but close enough. As the man clambered down from his seat, her eyes fell upon the hook for one of his hands. Did people -still- use hooks these days? or was that his preferred weapon? She couldn't help it as her imagination ran away with her. She stood motionless as the man asked if they needed assistance. Erm, Um.. yes. I think. She stammered.

The big man let out a chuckle, and ignored her obvious fright, walking to the front of their truck. It was then that she noticed that his flannel plaid shirt was fairly dirty. Maybe he worked on cars for a living..He fiddled with something under the hood and poked his head around to look at Lonestar. Try that. He suggested, meaning for Lone to try starting the truck.

Lonestar could do nothing but stare at the hook-handed man as he climbed down outta his truck spoke briefly to Rozel and then went to fiddle with the engine. It wasn't much longer when he poked his head from behind the hood and said "Try that." Lone walked over to the open drivers' side door and turned the key in the ignition....the engine roared to life! I can't thank-you enough He said to the guy and started to reach for his  wallet. Put that away! the man said with obvious disgust in his voice. I stop and help folks stranded on this highway because I want not because I need money. I almost think it a little insulting. He started to return to his truck but, stopped before climbing up in. Tell you what, he began, if you want to make it up to me then I'll ask one favor of you...if you ever come across someone stranded as you yourself were...don't drive on by ok? Lone looked at the man with a credulous look on his face. Um no of course not we wouldn't dream of it He then bade the man farewell and returned to the truck where he and Rozel shared a puzzled expression. What do you suppose that was all about? he asked.

Roz watched the exchange between the two men with cautiously. And as the man in the truck drove away, a sense of relief fled her that she didn't really know that she had been holding back. I don't really know.. she replied to Lone. Lets not hang around. It is getting kind of late in the day and.. she looked around the high-way where they were.. it is a little on the creepy side. The trees were thick and mossy, almost like a rain-forest, but not the tropical kind.

She shook away an instant shudder and climbed into the truck awaiting Lone to join her. Yeah.. lets get out of here.. she thought.

I agree with you he said quickly. He got back into the truck and waited for Roz to close her door before starting putting the vehicle back into motion. I'm actually kinda glad that we are finally on our way to the cabin. A look of peaceful serenity washes over his face.

After about an hour delay and 20 minutes of driving the cabin finally appeared. He pulled the truck into the drive and applied the E-brake.  He made short work of unloading the truck with Roz pitching in too. When it was done he collapsed onto the couch exhausted. He called over to Roz for her to join him sitting. Well, what do you think of the place?....not too bad eh?

She was actually relieved when they finally arrived at the cabin. It wasn't as skeletal as she was expecting and it was strange how the windows were just open squares with bug mesh over the windows, with shutters for covers. Unloading the truck went smoothly. The inner of the cabin had counter space enough, in the kitchen/living area, a small bedroom off to the left as you entered the door. There was no running water, just a hand pump out side. The small generator only ran the small refrigerator that sat below the counter next to a 5 gallon bucket that sat below the kitchen sink wells to catch any used liquid.

She was ok with having to cook outside in the firepit and if they needed they had brought along some camp stoves and cilindars, but those were to be used only if there was no way to cook otherwise. The extended large porch contained a wood table with attached benches, like you would see in a county park. The other side a swing. It almost felt like she was in hill-billy hell, but she said nothing of the sort. Of all the things, the one thing that creeped her out the most was the outhouse.

The privy was set off close to the woods. That in its self was creepy enough. But an Outhouse?!? If she had to go at night, she would hold it!

When he called her to the couch, or sad stand in of a couch, she crossed her arms over her chest and kicked his foot lightly. Nodding toward the lake she smiled. I don't have time to sit yet, you nerd. Nodding toward the lake she smiled. You going to go catch us some supper while I put some of this... she looked around... stuff, away? Not to mention straightening up, sweeping of the nasty cobwebs and cleaning that needed doing.

He jumped slightly at being booted. Fish? he questioned. Oh yes of course I was just going to do that right away. he said. He walked over to the truck and grabbed the only thing that remained in the body a small open reel fishing pole, tackle, and a jar marked bait. what kind of fish we'll possibly catch in this here lake? He wondered to himself and wandered off down to the shore.

The sun was starting its decent into the western sky which told Lonestar it was roughly 6 o'clock which coincidently is what his wrist watch said too!. He threaded the fishing line through the eyes and tied on a hook. He then picked up the jar and screwed off the lid. Looking down at the worms he spoke to them "Which one of you would like to go for a swim" he mused. He picked out an exceptionally large worm and pierced the hook through its wriggling form. He cast the baited hook into the lake and waited to do the dance that comes with fighting a fish on his line. As he waited he thought about Roz and what she was doing up at the cabin...

As soon as he was gone she got to work. Just what everyone wants, to clean on their vacation. She laughed inwardly at the thought. But she set to the task anyhow. The cobwebs were removed, the floor was swept and most everything was put away. As she turned her attention to the kitchen area, she went out to get water. She was surprised to find that the water looked clean and clear from the hand pump well. Back inside she set it upon the counter knowing that a fire is needed if any cooking would be done.

Her attempts as starting a fire were embarrassing at best. Frustrated and out of patience she went in search of her better half to see if he could help with it. As she walked down to the lake, she smiled as she watched him upon approaching. How goes the luck? She asked moving to stand close to him to look out over the water. It was beautiful in the evening here. That she couldn't deny.

Deftly he pulled the line through he water with the tempting morsel on the hook.  He repeated the process over and over and not even a single bite. Cast after cast yielded the same result.

He started to show signs of despair when Roz walked up behind him. Oh I'm getting loads of nibbles he lied. He cast the line into the water again as he had done several times before and pulled it in as before as well. This time was different and he chalked it up to having Roz near him. He fought the fish which struggled to free itself from its predicament it had gotten itself into while looking for a morning meal. The fish soon tired and he was able to land it upon the shore line. He held up his catch fro Roz to see. What a beaut he said. have you gotten a fire ready yet? he asked.

She watched as he reeled a fish in and onto the shore. She was very glad that he had taken the job of fishing. Hopefully he would also do the cleaning. Nah, No luck. The newsprint I tried using is just a tad on the damp side. I would say forget the whole fire thing, but I really don't want to have to use the cylinders already. Especially since it is not raining. She smiled at him in catching something. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.

Would you like me to sit with you? Or, try some more with that fire? I don't mind trying again, but it was really kinda ticking me off. Either that or it may be better if both of us work on it. The embers just go out too quickly for me to get anything to catch. She looked around for something to sit on, but didn't see any large rocks or logs to perch upon. Instead, she sat down cross-legged and watched, wondering what he thought about the situation.

I love to help you with the fire Roz he said. Just let me get this fish cleaned up first so that it'll be ready for cooking. He took a small knife from his tackle and deftly sliced open the fish from its neck down its belly and scooped out the insides and threw them into the water. Next he cut off the head and tail sections too. Using the water in the lake he cleaned off the remains of the intestines and also the fish blood. He also washed up his own hands and packed up the fishing pole and the tackle.

He approached Roz's sitting figure and offered her an elbow seeing as it did not reek of fish or worms to help her to her feet.
Shall we return to the cabin my sweet? he asked her.

She watched as he cleaned the fish and she wrinkled her nose as he did so. She wasn't the sort that really liked the thought that they ate animals. An animal lover by nature, it was hard to wrap her head around the thought that animals sacrificed their lives for their own. At his offered arm, she gladly took it and they headed back up to the cabin.

At the cabin she let him take over in getting the fire started while she prepared everything else. She scrubbed up potatoes and readied some other vegetables. Hopefully they would be eating soon. Exiting the cabin she figured to check out how Lone was doing with the fire. Leaning against the porch support posts, she watched him work. Hows it going? She asked from a distance behind him. Her vegetables were ready in a pan and the potatoes were sliced and waiting patiently in a cast iron skillet.

She grasped his arm and together they walked back to the cabin.

Roz disappeared into the building while he went to work building a fire. He searched around the cabin for fuel and starting supplies. He quickly found a small stack of dried logs on the porch and gathered them up. Walking back to the fire-pit he placed the logs neatly beside it. He stood up and walked inside looking for anything that could be used for tinder. He rummaged about finding bits of newsprint and also discovered a box of matches.
He carried the tinder out to the fire-pit and deftly placed newsprint in the bottom some smaller kindling pieces next and a few good sized logs on top. He lit a match  and placed it by the paper....*How's it going?* he heard behind him and suddenly fwoosh! the fire took off catching the small kindling and then spreading to the logs. Eureka! he exclaimed and watched as the fire grew in size. He stood up and placed his hands outward in front of himself to feel the warmth. He strode over to where Rozel was and placed his arm around her waist and kissed her on the forehead. I did it...it took an act of Murphy....but, I did it he said to her as he admired the fire he created. So, do you need anymore help with dinner?

She chuckled at his expressions he uses, and shakes her head, giving him a quick nonchalant hug and turned to go get the grate for the fire. Coming back she handed it to him. If you can get that sorted, I would be really happy.. then went to get the vegetables. No, I am pretty good on everything. They would take longer than the fish would and them in a cast-iron pan would cook very quick.

I thought I saw a radio in the closet. You want to try to see if we can get anything tuned in? She smiled as she carried the items out to the fire and set them upon the grate. Turning back to him she smiled. What do you want to do after supper?

The fire was burning nicely and the fish sizzling just right. Lonestar was admiring the accomplished fire as it worked at cooking their meal of fish. Lonestar ventured into the cabin to get the radio from the closet. The scene was one of memory for sure. If you had been outside of the cabin at that moment like Roz was.....and did not know that it was him inside then you would almost automatically assume there was some kind of commotion going on. This is what it sounded like.
Give me that radio!
Oh no you don't
Wait, put that down
what do you think you are going to do with that?
oh! there are two of you....well the more the merrier

Lonestar emerged from the cabin apparently victorious.
Did you know we have attack dust bunnies in there? He dusted himself off briskly. Big ones too!

Lonestar set to work finding batteries for the radio which he was fortunate Roz had packed because he did not think of batteries and after putting them in set to work finding a radio station that would fit there needs.
He traveled up and down the dial and after sampling everything the area had to listen to chose a classic rock station that was playing LYNYRD SKYNYRD - Sweet Home Alabama and he thought was a good choice.

He listened to her question and a wry smile spread over his lips. Well, we have one of two choices. 1) we can venture down to the lakeside sit on a blanket and watch the sunset. He paused slightly looking at Roz with a wink in his eye. Or we can stay up here and dance around to this lovely music he waited for Roz to respond as the next song began Rock N' Roll All Night ( Good Quality ) - Kiss

Looking over her shoulder as she cooked, she shook her head at him and laughed lightly. You should have seen the cob webs.. I think the dust bunnies put the daddy long legs up to helping in keeping the place a little on the creepy side. she smiled as he tuned in the radio.

She though about his suggestion. Yeah, lets watch the sunset. It has been ages since we have done that. She looked up into the sky. From the looks of it, it will not be too long until it starts setting.. Things on the grill were about done anyhow. She flipped the fish and messed with the other foods until done. Hey, would you mind grabbing me that plate from the table in there? These fish are ready and only a couple more minutes for the other things to come off. She suddenly realized how hungry she really was.

Dust bunnies from hell he murmured as he was listening to the music. The aroma emanating from the grill was intoxicating in itself. Finely grilled fish and veggies.

He turned toward her as she spoke. Sure I can grab the plate for you Roz He walked over to the table and picked up the plate in question and brought it to her. Say, did you want to take our plates down to the lakeside as we watch the sunset?

Pulling the food off she heard him ask her about eating at the lake. She then smiled up at him, handing him back the plate with the cooked fish upon it, and taking up the other items in hand. That sounds nice. Lets dish up here, grab a blanket and head down. She stood and turned to walk into the cabin, but on passing, she stole a kiss.

Inside she set the food upon the counter, and pulled out some paper plates and began dishing up his and her plates, but waited for him to set the fish down as she looked around for some plastic forks that she had brought with. She was glad to finally be getting something good to eat. Her stomach growled in agreement as she did so. As she remembered where she a put them, in the pantry cupboard, of all places, she asked if he wanted anything to drink. There was beer in the cooler, or soda in the fridge, or water from the well. She turned to him as she asked, pausing until she had an answer. You want anything to drink?

He took the plate from Roz as she walked by carrying the other items and stealing a kiss from him. He put the fish down and touched the spot of his lips where she had kissed him and thought he could almost taste strawberries.  I like the idea of getting a blanket too he added.

He stood in the doorway already having grabbed a blanket and heard her ask him if he wanted a drink. I'll take a cold soda he remarked and held his arm aloft for her to take so that they could walk down to the lake shore together.

Grabbing a soda, she tucked it under her arm and picked up the two plates. Walking toward him she smiled as he held out his arm to her but she was unable to take it as her hands were full and she did not want to drop the plates. You lead the way. She smiled, following him out the door and off of the porch. The sky was still bright but the sun was dipping down. Hopefully they would get to see a beautiful sunset, ensuring that tomorrow they would have clear skies.

As they walked, she looked out over the lake. The water was calm and reflecting as it showed a mirror image of the shoreline and sky. Breathtaking.. Wha...oohwhoa! Her foot landed upon a stick in the grass, and she felt her ankle roll in an unusual way, then slip out from beneath her. OooF! The wind whooshed out of her as she landed on her backside. Unbelievably, she landed in a way that the plates had not lost a morsel. But her be-hind ached as well as her ankle throbbed.

She sat there a moment in shock at what had just happened. One leg folded back, partially under her the other straight forward.

They walked along seemingly together toward the lakeshore. The early evening sun had finished its trip across the sky and began to dip down. He was slightly ahead of her by a few paces.

He heard her yelp and turned to find Roz crumpled on the ground with one leg folded back behind her. Oh my Lord! He threw the blanket down and went to her and took the two plates amazed that both still had their contents. He put the plates down on the blanket and went back to help to her feet. He supported her gingerly over to the embankment so she could sit down.

He returned to the blanket and meals picked up the two plates and brought them over to where Roz was and placed them down. He then returned for the blanket and brought it over to her as well and sat beside her. Why don't you put your leg up on my lap and I'll rub it all better? he asked her

Aww, thanks.. I wasn't watching where I was going. she said as he helped her up and over to set. She smiled as he suggested that he rub her foot. She agreed and fed him and herself as they watched the sky. Remind me why one watches again where they are going, rather than rubbernecking to see something they shouldn't be trying to while they are otherwise doing something else? She chuckled, but knew that the foot would be a bit better in a day or so.

It is so quiet and peaceful out here. She commented, the sky turning colorful shades of red and purple. She then realized she had picked up his soda before she was helped to her feet.. Oh, here is your soda. It might be a bit flat now... she grimaced a little. Oh and I was thinking about a smore or two for dessert later. What do you think? Little bit of chocolate... graham crackers and marshmallow??  You game?? She teased, pretty much knowing that it would be a hit.

He glanced over at her with a puzzled look on his face. What did you say Master Yoda? her asked trying to decipher what she had said about not paying attention to where she was walking. The meal was awesome and being fed by Roz while he rubbed her foot was also amazing.

The setting sun had begun its descent and it was about an hour or so before it would be dark. His mind drifted to the thoughts of chocolaty melty marshmallowly goodness that s'mores represented. Yes! S'mores would be awesome he said would you like for me to go and get the stuff and bring it back here? he asked

She chuckled at the Yoda Reference and shook her head lightly. No, I think I would like to get back inside.. maybe take an aspirin or two for this ankle. But that doesn't mean we can not do smores inside. She smiled at him, hoping that it didn't damper the mood any. She clamored to her feet, taking the plates with her she limped up to the house.. but as she went, she tossed back over her shoulder...Then I say you let me woop you at at game of Cribbage! She laughed and tried her best to quicken her pace to the cabin.

He really wanted to the s'mores out of doors but knew that she had to be in pain the way she grimaced when she was limping up the path. Yeah that is fine with me he said to her as she passed.

He followed her closely up the trail to the cabin and when she suggested that he allow her to whoop him at cribbage he chuckled lightly. Well, I'll get the s'mores ready and if you can will you please get the crib board ready?

He busied himself in the kitchen breaking some Hershey bars and graham crackers in half and finding the large marshmallows and some roasting sticks. He carried it all over to the fire place and placed everything down. He took a small pile of kindling wood and some tinder and lit it all ablaze with a match he struck on the fireplace.  What kind of smelty ooey gooey godness did you need for your S'mores Roz? he asked while waiting for a full fledged fire.

She nodded at his request. Sure can, she said as she made her way over to her bag. Digging through all her things for entertainment, she came across a small cribbage board. Pulling it out along with the deck of cards, she moved over to the table and set things up, waiting for their treat while shuffling the cards multiple times.

Did you want anything to drink? She asks for the second time this evening. Not really waiting, as she wants something anyhow, she hobbles over to the fridge and takes out a bottle of water for herself, but looks over her shoulder waiting for his reply.

The fire is roaring nicely giving off enough heat to make him sweat just a bit. Yes please he answered, A cold beer would be great.

He placed several graham cracker halves onto the plate and placed small lengths of chocolate bar onto each one. He then took a roasting stick he had found on the trail during the walk back and stuck two marshmallows on the end and stuck it into the open flame for a few seconds until the marshmallows were gooey. He placed the gooey mass onto a bar of chocolate and placed a half of a graham on top smooshing it together. He repeated the process until all eight s'more sandwiches had been made.

He took up the plate and walked over to the table where she had set up the board and waited for her there calling over to her You didn't stack the deck did you? and he chuckled knowing that she would not cheat at any costs.

Taking up a beer, she took herself over to the table and sat. Opening the beer, she placed it on his side of the table and the bottle of water, she opened and took a long drink from. It was ice cold, taking her breath away. Re-capping it, she shuffled the cards further. Further and further she shuffled.

When he approached with the treats and asked about her stacking the deck, she only smiled. I guess you will have to sit and find out. Her smile was playful. Her aim was to beat him, but it wouldn't be that way.

He mock smiled at her with his tongue sticking out. He knew she would never stoop to cheating. He put the tray down onto the table where they both could reach warm smelty goodness that was the s'more.

He watched her as she skilfully shuffled the cards and dealt them out. He picked up a small s'more and let the smelty goodness fill his mouth. Once he had his six cards he began adding up available points.

"Help yourself to a s'more Roz...they are great!" he said to her as she appeared to be examining her cards.

She stuck her tongue out at him back in reply, then chuckled softly. Mmm those smell good. The chocolatey goodness that wafted in the air made her mouth water. When he settled into his seat she lifted her foot upon his lap, and grinned at him, hinting for him to pay the ankle a little attention here and there.

Dealing out the cards, she was cocky in taking the first crib, not even offering for them to split for it, but he seemed to pay no mind.. Yes, she grinned to herself.. the chocolate distracted him from noticing! She giggled inwardly as the hand began. He tossed her two and she placed two cards face down upon the ones he tossed away and it began.

His offer of one of the treats she was glad for. Taking up one she set it before her. Thanks. Your go. She said as she would have normally. Taking a small bite of the treat she savored it, then took a sip of her water.

He watched her deal out the cards not even cutting for deal. He did not mind that too much as she usually wound up winning the crib anyways. He felt her foot land on his lap and then a smile from her told him what she was needing. He was too busy enjoying the chocolate treat to even care.

He threw 2 cards to her kitty and waited for her to toss away her two. He began to lightly rub her ankle hoping that it would make her feel better. I hope you like the S'mores? He gently rubbed her foot all over paying extra close extra gentle attention to her ankle. How does that feel? he asked I hope this foot rub helps take the swelling down.

He heard her say it was his go. Before we can start we have to cut the deck he said as he picked up the top half of the cards.

She smiled at his question.. Yeah, they are alright. They would be so much better without the marshmallow. She chuckled, knowing that without the marshmallow, they wouldn't be s'mores anymore. As he rubbed her ankle, she noticed that it did help some. That does feel good, thanks. Me too, though I am sure I probably should have packed it in some ice for a bit.

Reaching over, she cut the deck. A 4 of Spades cut up. Oh well that helped. She pretended to smile. She knew with the right combination of cards that 4 could be a good thing. It was lucky for her, the card didn't help her one Ioda.

He continued to rub her ankle paying close attention to where it was swollen as to not make it worse. Yeah without marshmallow they'd be called s'meres he chuckled lightly at his crude attempt at humor.

The deck was cut and Roz drew a 4 of spades and placed it on top. He grimaced at the 4 as it was of no use to him. He delightfully played a 9 of clubs. 9 he said.

He waited for Roz to survey her cards and make her selection. She was an awesome crib player and figuring all the games of cribbage they had played together they were about even. He watched to see if she would furrow her brow...he loved watching that as it told him that she was deep in thought about something. He did not care of what she was thinking but when she furrowed her brow it drove him wild with desire.

S'meres?  That almost sounds kinda gross.  She laughed. To his nine she played a Jack. 19. She did her normal dote-dee-doh look. She really enjoyed playing cribbage, but was not one to care whether she won or not. Half the time it all played out it was luck anyways. Though she did consider herself a pretty good pegger.

She looked across at him awaiting for his play.

I know it does sound totally awful doesn't it. He agreed with her as she played down a jack onto his nine.  He shuffled through his cards looking for a good one to play. This was hard to do as his cards were shit. 27 he said as he played an 8 onto his 9.

He stared over at Roz trying to penetrate into her body and mind and soul...trying to see the reflection of her cards in the window.

He so enjoyed playing cards with Roz. It was fun because whether he won or lost it did not matter because playing with her was fun!

Playing out her remaining card(s)  she watches as he pulls ahead.  Just like him to take an early lead, even if it was her crib. What should we think on doing tomorrow? she asked, a slight yawn on her lips. And as she asked, a Flash of light lit the sky for a few seconds.

Getting to her feet, she ventured over to the door for a better look. A little flash off in the distance, and it had begun to rain lightly without them even knowing it. Looks like a storm.. I thought we were going to have some decent weather. She said, mesmerized by the building storm.

We have enough dry wood?  she turned back to ask...  Hoping that the rain wouldn't hold out too long

In the rain, pattering, the wood cutter felled another tree. His soggy hat, fur lined interior, checkered red exterior, and worn with time, was pulled tight over his head. His two day stubble, dark but spattered with bit of grey protruded defiantly from his face.

He looked up at the gap in the sky he'd left. He took a moment to enjoy the mist upon his face. Then, he turned his chainsaw to the log at his feet. He cut it into rounds two feet long a piece. These, he rolled to his truck before removing his chaps, and stashing his saw in the cab of his truck.

The edge of his axe shined in the glow of his newly lit head lamp. He brushed saw dust from his dark green rain jacket. He began to split the rounds and load them neatly onto his trailer, three quarters full now after a day's work, hitched to the back of his beaten, blue 1983 gmc truck.

His breath came out in clouds about his head.

Lonestar

"A-ha!" he exclaimed, "I'm winning" He counted the peg hole difference between his and Roz's position. "Now I need to keep my lead."

A flash of lightning followed by a loud clap of thunder echoed overhead shaking the panes of glass in the windows. "Oh my that was quite close" he said. He surveyed the wood situation and knew that there was not enough to see them to morning.

He stepped outside into the light rain and looked for the woodbox but found it empty. He cursed under his breath. He had no idea of how to swing an axe let alone be able to tell which trees would be suitable to chop down or even how to chop one down for that matter. He rummaged through the woodshed and managed to find a sort of chopping tool.

He swung the bladed device up to his shoulder and began to tromp into the forest. He stopped 15 feet or so in and thought for certain he could hear the sound of a chainsaw grinding to a halt. He leaned his ear toward the sound but could not hear it anymore.

He continued walking in and stopped after another 10 feet to a new sound. This one sounded like wood being thrown into the back of a truck or something metallic. "Hello!" he shouted. He waited for a reply

Nothing made Carl, the woodcutter, feel better about himself than a nicely stacked pile of wood. He had tried playing tetris a few times, and arranging the blocks correctly had some of the same appeal, but not nearly. With most ornagizing, it was the same things over and over again; stacked, restaked, and boring. Split wood, though, was always just a little different.

This was the totality of his world as he jammed a strangely shaped, knotted monstrosity into a divet he had allowed in the previos row. It slid into its groove with satisfying ease. He was pleased, then he was alert. He walked to the end of his trailer and hopped off onto the ground. He grabbed his axe from where he'd left it leaning against the trailer and then headed towards the shout.

"Hey there," he shouted back (probably around 20 seconds after the "Hello.") Then, Carl checked his breast pocket for his cigarettes with his free hand as he walked, out of habit. The axe swung leasurly at his side, gripped halfway up its wooden handle.

His headlamp made a glowing cone of raindrops in front of him.

Lonestar

He waited in the rain for a response. About 20 seconds or so later he heard a voice call out "hey there"
He followed the direction of the sound and came upon a man standing by a truck. The headlamps were pointed at him so he could not make the strangers facial features but could clearly see that he carried an axe.

Pardon me sir? he said cautiously I need some help gathering wood for the fire in my cabin...my lady friend is back there right now waiting for me.  He shaded his eyes to try and catch a glimpse of the stranger standing there.

Carl took one good look at Lonestar in the light before he reached up and turned off his head lamp. Then, he looked at his trailer. He laughed, briefly and almost ruefully.

"You've got the devil's own luck, then. I only cut on this lot once a year." He set his axe back against his trailer, reached for his pocket and removed his cigarettes. He continued, hardly skipping a beat, "You've got cash, I assume?"

He turned towards Lonestar while he lit his cig, his face was illuminated by the lighter flame. Brown eyes, dark hair speckled with grey, weathered, tan skin. Carl is half mexican. He's got bushy eyebrows. He's got a moustache. He doesn't have a descernable accent. When he turns to the side you can see some weight on him. Not quite fat, but healthy. Well fed.

Carl is jovial enough, but he's a bit leary on account of Lonestar being a stranger in the woods.

Lonestar

He was glad that the man had turned off the headlamps. It was easier to make out the guy in front of him. He had a seemingly Mexican look about him but not quite full. Grey flecked hair betrayed his age a little.

He was still a little leery about this man but there was a kindness that shone through his rough grizzled exterior. He looked at the trailer where he stood his ax and then back at the man who took a long haul off of his cigarette

Yes, I do he said and searched his pockets for his wallet. How much will $40 net me? he asked enough for a couple days I hope.

He pulled out two twenties and approached the man. My name is Lonestar he said in greeting May I have your name please?

Carl relaxes noticably when he sees the money.

"40 bucks will get you three bundles. That should be enough for two days. If you're conservative." He grins.

He doesn't move to take the money yet. First, he hops back up on his trailer and moves towards his wood.

"Nice to meet you Lonestar. I'm Carl." He takes his cigarette out of his mouth as he talks, but quickly replaces it as he pulls a roll of twine out of one of his pockets. He quickly and skillfully uses the twine to start gathering together the bundles.

He continues to talk while he works, cig dangling from his lower lip, "You got far to carry this?"

Lonestar

Nice to meet you Carl he said as he stood there still holding the money. He watched as Carl went to work tying up some wood in bundles. No I haven't that far to go at all he said to him. He looked behind him at the small cabin a short ways away a flickering light telling him that the wood was still burning keeping Roz warm.

Carl tied the three bundles together so that he could easily carry them slung over his shoulder. He handed the man the cash and picked up his package. I hope night is much better to you than it has been thus far Carl He began to walk away toward the cottage in the distance. Drive safe and watch out for yourself he called over his shoulder.

The journey took a little longer than he expected but soon enough he found himself walking along the step of the cabin and knocking on the door. Roz? he called out I'm back and I got us some wood to burn he waited for the door to swing open.

She was a little worried about him being out in the weather. When the knock came she rushed to the door to open it. The look on her face at the sight was that of confusion. He hadn't been gone near long enough to have cut and chopped the wood that was now upon the porch.

How did you? She started, looking at him. The rain seemed to have drenched him fully. Oh get in here you.. you will catch your death and then where will I be? Lost in these here woods.. on some back road. She said in jest, but pulled him inside by the warm fire and began to peel off his coat.

Dripping wet with rain he followed where she was pulling him over by the fire. You wouldn't believe me if I told you, he began as she helped him out of his soaking wet jacket. I merely walked a short distance from the cabin to the grove of trees on the upper right side and I stumbled upon a man, he told her with great earnest, His name was Carl and he was seemingly just finishing up dicing up a tree he had fallen, he continued with hand and arm motions to describe the scene, I asked him how much of his wood I could buy for $40 and what you see on the porch is just that.

After he finished recounting his tale to her she had nearly stripped him out of all of his wet items. Thanks for helping me out my wet clothing Roz, he said to her as he sat down upon the couch. Would you mind getting me my robe? he asked her

He absolutely loved Roz ever since the day they met he has been madly in love with her. The way her hair shone in the firelight...fine body and fair skin complexion always gave him warm feelings within his heart. He leaned into the couch and locked his fingers behind his head. So did you want to continue playing cards, he said or just declare it a draw and sit here on the couch warming ourselves...what do you think? he asked her

Dicing up a tree?  Was he a forest chef? She winked at him, but let him continue.. as she helped him. Once his wet clothes were removed she nodded at his suggestion of a robe, and left to find it.

In the bedroom, she looked behind the door where she had stored it, not sure he would have needed it. She was glad now that she had unpacked it. Returning with it she had hear him still talking as she had searched. Yeah, can we just call it a draw on the game.. I am kinda ready to unwind.. and before the fire sounds great. She though about leaning against him and just enjoying the flicker of the fire.

He was a good man. Had always treated her well, even though she hardly told him. This escape was something that they both needed. Sure she may have liked to go to a resort or something else, but this was nice too.. They got to enjoy each other for a change rather than be interrupted by the technologies of the day..

Holding out the robe, she held it in a way that would help him into it.

He watched her disappear from view. *wow* he thought *she was one woman you didn't like to see leave but loved to watch go* he chuckled at his thought. It was true though Roz had a knockout body. Long luscious legs, soft firm ass, perfect breasts and pouty lips that he loved to kiss.

She returned with his robe and he stood and slipped his arms into it wrapping it around himself and tying off the belt. Thanks sweetie, he said, I really appreciate you getting it for me, he added.
He sat back down onto the couch  and patted the spot next to him. Room for one more, he said with a wink in his eye, care to join me all cuddled together in front of the fire? he asked.

As he waited for Roz his thoughts drifted back to Carl the woodcutter. He wondered if this rain storm was getting the best of him and possibly causing him trouble. He cursed himself for not inviting him to their warm cabin to wait out the storm

As I walk the rain begins pounding harder on my head, having forgotten my umbrella I begin cussing louder. "Damn it if it isn't enough my truck broke down, it has to rain the day I finally clean the damn thing out! I knew I should have put the umbrella back in the truck." As I look up I see a house and start making my way over to see if they have a phone I could use to call my brother. He stood as she came near Good evening, he said with a nod of his head, My name is Lonestar but, you can call me Lone. He caught himself doing the same flirting he usually did with Roz.

My it is a nasty evening out but we have a nice roaring fire here. He beckoned her to sit on the couch nearest the fireplace as to warm and dry herself all the faster. He could still hear Roz in th bedroom doing something. He turned to the young lady. What is your name my dear? he asked.

Kairi

Kairi entered the home noticing the warmth in the decore, nodding to Roz as she offers some clothing. She looks to teh man who had introduced himself as Lone, "My name is Kairi my truck broke down a few miles up the road, I'm really sorry for the intrusion." Ahe states in an appologetic manor bowing her head slightly. She removes her jacket to reveal a wet dark shirt with a gir logo on the front, the fabric cleanging to her breasts and distorting the image with the curvature of the large size. She kneels in front of the fire not wanting to soak the furnature, sticking her hands almost into the flame she rubbs raw redness out of them as feeling flows almost too quickly into them sending slight waves of pain through the tips. "Thank you guys very much I promis not to be a bother." she turns to him and looks upon his features relizing he is rather handsome and a little flirty. Feeling the slight rush of redness in her cheeks she turns back to the fire awaiting Roz's return.

Rozel

Finding what she needed she returned to the front room. The rain pelted down upon the cabins roof hard now. Here. these should fit. She said with a smile, and set the clothes upon the arm of the old couch.. You can change in the bedroom there.

She then crossed the room and lit a few lanterns. And no worries! We were just kinda here twiddling our thumbs. Lone's special idea of a Camping Week. She winked at Lone, knowing that she was joking around.  She chuckled a little. Hopefully in the morning things will look better.

When I lay my head on the pillow at night, I can say I was a decent person today. That's when I feel beautiful.

He watched her sitting there. Her wet shirt clinging to all of the right spots. He thought he saw her looking at him too but wasn't sure. Roz returned right then and placed clean dry clothes on the arm of the couch.

I happen to like camping Roz he snuffed. Turning to Kairi he said Her idea of roughing it is going to the holiday inn  instead of the hilton. he tossed his head back and laughed.

It was true that Roz was not the country type gal like he was the country type guy but he loved her just the same. It was their differences that made their life together amazing and special in every way every day.

Have you been having vehicle trouble recently or is this break down something new? he asked Kairi.

Kairi

"Its something that has been a problem but I did some work on it at a friends shop and I thought I got the problem, yet more keep coming. I can't believe I didn't think about this sooner. I wouldn't have drove it out so early but I was trying to find my dog she jumped out a few miles back towards town, I was just getting ready to turn around too. Remmington is such a pain though she loves to chase the rabbits, I wanted to take her hunting around here so I was trying to get her a little familiar with the area. I guess she took it as more than just a small trip." She says looking out the window and then heading into the bedroom closing the door so she could change.

A dog? he asked, What kind of dog is Remmington anyways? he quizzed some more. Before she answered she had already gotten up and strolled to the back room with the dry clothes given her by Roz and closed the door.

He turned to Roz. What do you think? he said she seems genuine enough to have a likely story. He walked over to the ice box and grabbed out another soda. Do you want something to drink Roz he called back to her? He grabbed another soda and a bottle of water just in case.

He was on his way back to the sofa when there was another loud crash of thunder and bright flash of lightning making him jump a little.
I sure hope Remmington is okay in this storm?

Kairi

Kairi was in the back room pulling the top over her head and the lightning struck again she cringed slightly her heart racing. As she began to wonder where her little rottweiler blue heel-er mix had ended up she heard whining and scraping on a screen. she wasn't sure from where it was coming and abandoned the dry pants bolting out the door into the living room to try and see where the scratching was coming from. She glanced over the two and apologized before darting out side. Once out side she started running around the house and came upon the small dog, she was bleeding her paw gashed and torn. She quickly swooped the dog in her arms and ran to the porch setting her down and hollering to the couple. "Please do you guys have any bandaging or possible some stitching she's been hurt!" she said her breath short and her throat swelling as her eyes water.
