I see an island far away
Connected by a fragile bridge
Darkness and shadow are my day
Though I can see dawn on the distant shore
I stand alone in the cold
Your voice calls, so strong, so bold
Through shrouding fog, winter chill
And I take my first steps...

Shaking bridge, rotten planks,
Wind bites ever colder,
Fog thickens, surrounds me.
I can't see past my feet,
Blindly I walk forward...
And I glance back,
Steady bridge back to darkness
I step back, warmth returns
But your voice calls me forward
I shrug off my fear and walk onwards
Slow through mist and breaking planks.

Hailstorm, sharp ice pierces my heart,
Dawn is so close yet so far
Ropes creak and fray,
Wood crumbles beneath me
And my legs give out
Strength fails and I glance again
Darkness so warm, comforting
Dare I turn back
Before I fall into the abyss far below?

I refuse, I crawl forward
Drawn to dawn's rosy light
So close to the stony shore
Heart freezing, eyes dimming
Brittle rope shatters, bridge splinters
I reach out, warm blood flows from my hands
Maybe I should've stayed in the dark
Now I will be sea foam for eternity.

In blinding light, I feel a hand
Catch my hand before oblivion takes me
A sacrifice to the sea below
My grip falters, shadows call to me
Ice shard digs deeper, heart races
But you never let go,
Your strength pulses into me
Heart still frozen
You pull me up, bring me to the shore
As darkness makes one last attempt
Before sunlight warms my body,
A single tear shatters winter's hold,
Never to take me again.
