I'm working on two characters, a princess and her personal retainer, for an alternate history Sengoku era game. Is "hime", meaning "lady", "princess", woman from a noble family", appropriate for members of the retainer family?

Caeli

Can you be more specific? Who would be addressing the personal retainer/personal retainer's family?

My first instinct is to say that hime would only be used for the princess, and not her personal retainer.

I'm trying to figure out if I need to use hime in the retainer's outline/profile.

Beguile's Mistress

One of my co-workers tells me that hime would be used by the retainer when speaking to or about the noble lady.  There is a Wikipedia article that gives additional information for what it's worth.

Caeli

I still didn't quite understand who or what you're trying to describe.

Is it the retainer, addressing/talking about the princess?
Is it the princess, addressing/talking to the retainer?
Is it a complete stranger, addressing/talking about the retainer?
Is it a complete stranger, addressing/talking about the princess?

The princess, even in reference, would be spoken with the honorific -hime attached. Even by the retainer and the retainer's family; this would be a sign of respect.

The personal retainer would not have that title or similar. I'd imagine the honorific most likely be -san or -sama, depending on who was doing the addressing.

There's no talking involved.

The princess' name is Koyama Ryuu-hime, and her personal retainer's name is Saeki Nonoka. I'm trying to see if I'm addressing Nonoka's mother, Mika, correctly by using "Mikahime" in the "Parents and occupations" section of Nonoka's character outline.
