THE TEASE

The young man walked into the dark room, an office in which most objects were black: furniture, office supplies and items of vanity. Even the rare white here and there was tastefully placed to complement the black. The man named Dorian immediately felt calm, relaxed and safe in the warm arms of the darkness.
his eyes lazily surveyed the room, resting for a moment on a statue that stood there, in front of his desk. It was a strikingly detailed statue of a tall man in a business suit and a long trench coat, its form was a thing of oddity in the room, as if misplaced completely- since it was carved entirely out of dusty gray marble.  The young man cocked a sarcastic smile and gracefully made his way towards his desk.

Getting in front of the statue, he turned his back on it and gently caressed the glass surface of the table, activating the LED lights embedded underneath it. There was a newspaper spread open on the table in front of him, a couple of sections were circled with a marker and there were notes as well.
"This must be important, for you to deface your form like that." Dorian whispered into the void of the room, all the while studying the notes in front of him. His smile deepened as he sensed the other man shifting behind him.
"Vanity is not one of my sins, Master Gray." The man answered
Dorian scoffed and traced a line of marker across the sheet, "Still- Let others pride themselves about how many pages they have written-"
"-I'd rather boast about the ones I've read." The man finished the sentence. "Borges suits you very well."
"The man was a pompous womanizing scoundrel, I can respect that." Dorian indulged himself in nostalgia for a moment, and then turned his attention back to the newspaper. "I don't see it."

"You needn't but look closely, Master Gray."
"-At what?" The young man became impatient, "All you've circled are the wanted section and some deluded politician's speech about how he single-handedly managed to lower the state-wide rates of unemployment, what am I to defer from that rubbish?"
"Not deluded, just self-involved." The shadowy figure corrected, "Unemployment rates have gone down, especially in the bounds of the city's jurisdiction. In fact, it has been the lowest recorded around these parts for the last fifty years, by a milestone of 12%."
Dorian frowned and leaned in to closely study the article. "That cannot be…"
"And, while unemployment is at an all-time low, job offerings are as high as ever- Actually, higher- which means-"
"People have gone missing…" Dorian raised his grey eyes from the finely printed sheet. "Twelve percent… That's…"
"An estimated number, I expect they didn't account for a large number of street kids, gang members and the dead-"
"-They rarely do…" The young male mumbled, his eyes glossed over as his mind was doing the impossible calculations. "We might need some help."
"Direly." The man in the shadows agreed.

"Start scouting." Dorian said and turned around to face the motionless statue. Turning the lights off, the youthful man frowned and turned away, swiftly making his way to the door. "I have property that requires liquidating. Email me the CVs on the shadow network."
"Master Gray-" The reanimated statue began.
"Hmm?"
"-Regarding my memo…"
Dorian breathed deeply, "Not that again."
"I must insist."
"Oh, for heavens'-- Fine, what was it you said? No devil worshipers, no marrow feeders-" The young man rolled his eyes as he counted the conditions on his ring-heavy fingers, "-No necromancers and- what was it, again?"
"No child molesters or killers." The shadowy man answered grimly.

"You know, you're strangely judgmental, for someone that exists solely on the living energy of humans." Dorian teased.
I am not sure that I exist, actually. I am all the writers that I have read, all the people that I have met, all the women that I have loved; all the cities I have visited. The man responded.
"Borges again? Honestly, it's like a broken record with you today."
"In all fairness, he did plagiarize that one from me." The man said pensively, "It was a nasty habit of his, walking around with a pen and a pocket-ledger, quickly pulling it out anytime someone said something remotely clever. It could drive lesser men to drastic measures-"
"-William." Dorian stared directly into the darkness, his gaze uncharacteristically sharp and grave. "I will do my best to adhere to your preferences, but you'd do well to remember who and what we are."
"We are the saviors of this world." The man answered, stern yet softly, as if he thought the younger male needed to be reminded of that.

Dorian weighed the words offered. "Perhaps so." He finally replied, "But we are also not the good guys." With that, he turned around and left the angel alone in the dark.

A soft rustle could be heard from the depths of the room, as the newspaper was picked and folded carefully.

AND so it BEGINS

A simple introduction: This is Circle of Shadows, it's a game that revolves around a private shadow company, owned and maintained by people of unique skills and attributes; Or, in another word: Monsters. These are not your typical horror-movie monsters, but sentient monsters, similar in a way to the classic Victorian style, humans touched by monstrosities or monsters touched by humanity. That's you, this is what you'd be playing, your very own custom-made and modernized versions of a monster. The company is situated in a huge metropolis of a city, and its designated purpose is to locate, investigate and eliminate potential supernatural threats.

This game will be GMed by Caela and myself.

This game will be Freeform, all substantial decisions made by the GMs, adhering to common sense and reason.

WHAT is this GAME ABOUT?

This game will have several layers of activity:

The Recruitment. Some of you might choose to start as newly recruited members of The Company, but some might like to be recruited at the beginning of the IC. We're going to design it in a way that some missions' objectives would actually be the recruitment of a new agent, if the agent's own background story is interesting enough and if it offers a challenge substantial enough to call for a mission. YES, an entire mission that revolves around your character!

In-House Dynamics. There will be a great complex to the company, which will include several training facilities, recreational rooms, living quarters (dens customizable by the players, adhering to their monsters' needs), work spaces and utility rooms. That is where your characters will be getting their R&Rs between missions, interacting with one another, having training sessions, either solo or cooperative, discussing past missions and being briefed for the next ones. This here will be the sandbox aspect of the game, the heart of it, where you can really put your characters' diversities and conflicts with one another (or one-selves) to use. Do you have some beef to resolve with your teammate about the last mission? Do you have a problem with The Company's regulations or do you want to bargain for a better contract/more convenient working conditions? This is where it happens. GM events will include briefings, debriefings, staff meetings, group training sessions, personal evaluations etc.

The Missions. These will be the manifestations of the plot in the game. The action aspect of the Snadbox/Action theme. The missions are going to be GM events along the game, which will include assigned agents of The Company, and they will be sent out- either to investigate a potential threat, deal with one, and/or retrieve a desirable objective (be it an item or a person). The missions are going to be random in content, the threats are going to be seemingly unrelated to one another, just a collection of eclectic incidents, but there is a major scheme in play and in the grand plot- The Company's final goal is to identify the great forces working behind the scenes and stop them. This part of the game will be the thing that keeps all the other parts moving, a way to progress time, plot and character dynamics all together. Missions will usually be designed for a functioning team, each time with a different setup and under different leadership (as your characters prove themselves, they will be eligible for mission leader roles).

THE CHARACTERS

At this stage, each player is allowed one main character.

What can you play? You can play any type of monster you'd like. Take whatever monster you know, from folk stories, legends, books, comics, movies, TV-shows, and create a passably humanoid and modernized version of it. They don't have to be from the city itself, The Company's reach is long and wealthy of resources, but they do have to be interesting. We can't stress this enough, we'd like you to dig deep and create complex and rich backgrounds to your characters, interesting personalities, substantial set of values and ideals, something we could work with. This game thrives on character dynamics, we can create fascinating plots and heart-pumping missions, but it won't be half as entertaining without some solid group interactions.

That said, you may also play humans, but they need to have some very special qualifications to draw the eye of the Company, be it abilities, skills mental capacities or even personality traits. A man among monsters, it might be fun to play.

As said by Dorian in the teaser, we are not the good guys. The Company's intentions might be noble, but it consists of monster-men. The morals are going to be blurred and shoddy, grey at best, some of the means won't be acceptable to some of the characters, possibly downright monstrous to most human beings, and that's perfectly fine, because we are in the business of monsters. Sometimes, monsters just don't know any better. However, unless your character sheet is fantastically good, and gives a compelling reason for it, we won't be having any characters that are completely insidious. You don't have to be kind-hearted or even 'good', it might work for one or two characters, but not for them all. I want characters that live in the grey. To test and challenge the various definitions of 'good' and 'bad'.

When it comes to power ratings, be reasonable. We're going to talk to you about your powers, if need be, establish limitation where we see fit; but when you envision your character's strengths and abilities, steer clear of the epic, even the low-epic. Think Penny Dreadful level of abilities, think Lord of the Rings or Buffy the Vampire Slayer' level of powers, rather than the demon from Silent Hill, the magic from Harry Potter or the powers from Exalted.

Good news, everyone! I got my lazy ass to work out a functioning character sheet format!

Just a couple of pointers to keep in mind before you dive in:

For your character pictures, please use pictures of real life models only! Realistic looking video game rendering is ok too. It's easier for people to relate to and it makes us take your character more seriously. If there isn't a real-life picture that matches the monster-effect you wanted to make, you can include a link/spoiler for the artwork/concept art below, in the Appearance section.

Character sheets will be posted in this thread, but if you'd like to keep some of the information a secret, just use a -CLASSIFIED- tag in the corresponding section.
For example:

Name: Dylan Sharp
Age: 20
Sex: Male
Race: -CLASSIFIED-
Keep in mind that you will have to PM me the fully disclosed character sheet, you can't use the tag just to avoid writing a section down  ::)

Keep your pictures safe for work. If your picture is NSFW- put it in a spoiler with a proper warning. Some of our players are logging in from work or joined work spaces.

All characters should be at the age of 18 or above. we might make exceptions (down to 16), but we'd expect a compelling reason for it. That includes how your character looks like, using a 10,000 years old ghost that's trapped in the body of a 15 year old won't work (and it's against the site's rules).

The explanations are marked with stars (**). They are for your information, you should edit them out from the finished character sheets. Just putting it out there.

GM CHARACTERS!
The Boss-
Dorian Gray (Roen)
Name: Dorian Gray
Age: About 170 (Appears 19-20 of age)
Sex: Male
Race: Human
Type: Immortal Human
Origin: "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • Fast Regeneration. He's not just immortal, he heals pretty damn fast.
  • Keen Sense for Business. He knows a good deal when he sees it, he doesn't just know how to get what he wants, he knows when to back off or be flexible as well.
  • Personal Charm. He can be pretty damn suave when he puts his mind to it.
Notable Equipment:

  • Money. He can get whatever equipment he damn well pleases to.
  • A Self Portrait.
Role: The Boss. Yes, he is. He's the boss and owner of The Company.
Recruitment Status: Depends  on the day.
Employment History: Dorian has founded The Company almost half a decade ago. It was a holding and investment company at first, but soon enough he got bored with making money. Plus, he discovered that doing good deeds is good for your skin.
Appearance: Pretty much what you see in the picture.
Oh, and…

Sexuality: "Yes, please." (He's into anything, but I'd prefer mXm. Willing to make exceptions, depending on his mood.)
On/Off: Click Here
Personality: Dorian can be extremely moody at times, but it somehow seems forced when he's anything but indifferent. He gets bored quickly, and side-tracked quite often. He is nothing if not reasonable most of the time, not to be confused with responsibility, there's a good reason why he has two angels in his employ.
Background:
Who doesn't know the infamous short story by Oscar Wilde, 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'? Well, there is a story behind every fiction and there is a reason behind every superstition. Dorian became painfully aware of that at a very early stage of his life. Born to a wealthy aristocratic family of the late 19 century, at the peak of the Victorian age, Dorian Gray never wanted for anything- but that certainly didn't stop him from making demands. He was the very definition of indulgence and hedonism. His striking beauty, lazy charm and entitlement, combined with his impulsive nature and tendency to get bored have turned him into a social adventurer at an alarmingly early age. It didn't take long for him to be tired with proper society conventions, and he soon became obsessed with the strange, the deprived and the exotic.

Dorian would have become an explorer had he either the patience or motivation for traveling.  No, he seek the enticing thrill of the peculiar closer to home- in the company of women, men, blue collared beasts, carnival folk, the dispossessed, the insane, artists and even gypsies. The last two were his downfall. Dorian's curse didn't start at a party, painted by some celebrated artist among the empire's aristocratic finest, that absurd notion was conceived out of Wilde's feverish mind; Mainly because the real story was so utterly cheesy and worn out, it was practically a cliché, but also because it was too socially unacceptable, even for Wilde's taste. Dorian's portrait was the work of a lover, a gypsy wildling of a man of true gypsy blood. They were the hardy and –evidently- proud Romani. That beast of a man called himself Shandor.

Shandor was a passionate lover, and a lame poet- to Dorian's surprised discovery- they have spent many nights together, both being insatiable male specimens at their prime. Shandor had such a temper that Dorian has never seen before in all his traveling and dubious adventures, witnessing one of his furious fits was truly a magnificent experience, breathtakingly awe inspiring and enticingly frightening . What's more, the man seemed to be strangely immune to Dorian's melodramatic mood swings and thorny sense of humor, shrugging the young man's worst lashings with a quirk smirk and a nudge towards the bed. Their relationship was both excitingly forbidden and strangely comforting, and for a while- it almost seemed as if Dorian has finally found his peace.

Things started taking a turn for the worse when Shandor shared with Dorian the story of his younger sister- a painter as talented as any of the empire's finest. He claimed that she was so talented, in fact, that she was forbidden from drawing any living subjects, because her powers would trap a sliver of the subject's soul inside the painting, and that sometimes the paintings or changed in the dead of night. Shandor could immediately see the mistake he has made, by Dorian's excited expression, therefore he went on and clarified that his young sister's talent has brought nothing but grief and misfortune upon his sister and their troupe. He insisted that Dorian would swear to never tell the story of his sister to anyone else, and that he would never act upon it. Anyone that truly knew Dorian could tell: being told such a fascinating and exotic story, and soon after being forbidden from further investigating it was too much of a temptation for the young man to resist.

Shandor's younger sister, Mirela, wasn't hard to find, and she was even easier to seduce. She was such a gullible young thing, so delicate and naïve, Dorian almost felt guilty for trapping her in his web of lies. Almost, but not enough to resist. Apparently, she had no knowledge of Dorian's association with her older brother, which made it so much easier to seduce her into sharing her body and her talent with him. It didn't take long before he saw how good she truly was, and although he didn't fully believe Shandor's stories about the dire consequences of her unusual talent, Dorian thought it would sure make for a riveting theme-party. So, he gathered all of his notorious and hedonistic friends, and invited them all to an evening of fine dining, pleasurable exchanges and the introduction of his gypsy witch of a prodigy. Six portraits were painted that night, at least until an uninvited guest arrived.

Shandor's fury was truly astonishing that night, and Dorian would have enjoyed it- if he wasn't the subject of the man's inhibited violence. The guests fled the house without looking back as the gypsy man was pounding again and again into the bleeding form that was once so beautiful and spotless; breaking his ribs, breaking his nose, his left hand, rapturing his spleen and bowels, by the time Shandor's fury subsided, Dorian's skull has already caved in. Seeing his past lover bleeding on the floor, in a pool of blood that was soon to be his death bed, Shandor knew that his rushed actions have doomed not only his fate, but his sister's and his entire troupe's as well. With the lesser of the two evils in mind, he turned to his sister and asked –nay, BEGGED- her to paint one last portrait.

Dorian woke up the next morning, in his bed, as healthy and as handsome as he ever was. Seated on a chair next to his bed was a perfect recreation of his features in oil, blood and some Romani tears. The rest of his story was as Wilde has told it. Over the years, Dorian was a swindler, a thief, an adulterer, a murderer and a conspirer, all to protect his secrets and survive in the new condition. One lie after another got him to spiral down a dark path of becoming a monster. The thing that ended up saving him was Wilde's story and later on novel, he discovered that becoming a well-known fiction was the best way to hide in plain sight.
Merits:

  • Wealth. As specified above. Over the years, Dorian has done exceptionally well for himself. Investing wisely and feeling untouchable can get a man very far in this world.
  • Portrait. He's not just immortal, he's indestructible. You could chop him down to small pieces if you can stomach it, and he'd still assemble back into himself.
  • The Boss. If you want to get to him, there's a whole line of talented (and sometimes scary) people you'd have to go through.
Shortcomings:

  • Wealth. He's lazy and spoiled, sometimes downright unreliable.
  • Portrait. You destroy the painting, you kill the man once and for all. You'd have to find and get to the painting first, though.
  • Dependency. He's not self-sufficient at all. He always had someone to take care of him.
Hobbies: Anything recreational (Gambling, Drinking, Fornicating, Substance Abusing, Indulging in all sorts of depravities).
Face Claim: Rupert Friend.
How did YOU Find Us? What you mean, how I found you? I MADE YOU! :P

The Adviser-
William (Roen)
Name: William, "The Newspaper Guy"
Age: Unknown (definitely older than 18)
Sex: Male
Race: Appears human
Type: A Weeping Angel.
Origin: Doctor Who.
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • Dematerialization. He's fast, faster than you can believe. That's not just a line, whenever nobody looks at him, William's speed can almost be considered as teleportation.
  • Quantum Locked. Whenever in trouble, he can turn into stone… And you can't kill a stone.
  • A Scholar of Philosophy. All the greatest authors- he has read, all the most celebrated thinkers- he had met, he is an never-ending fountain of wisdom and advice, even when you're not asking for it.
Notable Equipment:

  • Newspaper. William always carries a newspaper with him, and he usually hides behind it. He considers the newspaper a part of his face, of his form.
  • Bandages. In order to allow himself the breathing room, not being constantly turned into stone whenever somebody is looking at him, William has covered his entire body in shrouds. They are tightly wrapped around each and every part of his body, he almost never takes them off.
Role: Mr. Gray's personal advisor, The Company's scout/recruiter, martial arts trainer.
Recruitment Status: A veteran employee.
Employment History: -CLASSIFIED-
Appearance: Pretty much what you see in the picture, a thin and tall man holding a newspaper. When the newspaper is removed, you see a tall man in a suit and sunglasses, his body wrapped in bandages from head to toe.
For Example…

Sexuality: If you like the touch of bandages, he'd take you.
On/Off: Click Here
Personality: William holds his moral standards extremely high. However, being not of the human race, he has his own unique views on 'right' and 'wrong', but when you finally reach them- it's like hitting a brick wall. That said, he is mostly pleasant company, although somewhat tiring at times, since he likes turning anything into a philosophical debate.
Background:
No one knows how it was that William came to be on this planet, or even when. He seems to be knowledgeable in history of most ages, though he'd only confess to the written ones. For all Dorian knows, William might be as old as time itself, since the Angel never felt comfortable enough discussing his past and origins with his employer. Have you ever tried interrogating a statue?
Merits:

  • Master of Martial Arts. Even with his materialization to slow him down, William is a skilled fighter of most schools and techniques.
  • Scholar As said above, William is an avid collector of philosophies, a grand part of his collection is dedicated to the art of war and leadership.
  • Advisor. He is probably the closest guy to the big boss, so far he has been the only one to make him see reason.
Shortcomings:

  • Quantum Locked If his disguise is compromised and there's a lookout, there's little he can do to stop from being trapped as a statue. The lookout better not blink, though.
  • Idealistic. It's extremely hard for William to compromise on his values and judgment, that might turn him into a liability in the field.
  • Newspaper. His insistence on constantly holding his newspaper up front leaves his hands usually occupied. He is pretty damn good fighting with his feet, though.
Hobbies: Reading, anything and anytime. Mostly his newspaper.
Face Claim: None.
How did YOU Find Us? Irrelevant.

The Personal Assitant-
Lorelai Alexia Thorne-Thompson (Caela)

Name: Lorelai Alexia Thorne-Thompson
Age: 27
Sex: Female
Race: Human
Type: N/A
Origin: N/A
Role: Secretary || Dorian's Personal Assistant
Recruitment Status: Recruited

Notable Abilities/Skills: Being human, Alexia's notable skill is her mind. She has a photographic memory, remembering everything she hears, sees, smells, feels, with perfect clarity. Along with this "gift" also came the ability to see connections, to find correlations and see consequences so many steps down the line that it would border on precognition...if she believed in such a thing.

Working for the Company this has some very practical applications; she never forgets an appointment she's scheduled, she never forgets where a report is filed, or what was in it if the physical copy needs to be destroyed. She can also sit in, quietly, on a meeting and look as if she's taking notes, and then repeat back, verbatim, not just what everyone said, but every suspicious, or telling, glance that passed between the players as well.

Notable Equipment: N/A unless power suits are notable.

Appearance: At work, Alexia is all business, tailored suits, hair neat and tidy, minimal make-up, without making herself look like a nun. She is well aware of her looks and knows how to look professional but still play to her physical assets as well. Outside of work she is more relaxed and "let's her hair down" both literally and metaphorically. Her clothing becomes more casual but is still tailored and still plays up her figure without being trashy.

Sexuality: Heterosexual
On/Off: Ons: Alexia enjoys a bit of S/M with her sex but only in the bedroom. She's a light masochist and enjoys some bondage, a bit of pain to spice her pleasure, and power play.

**Outside the bedroom however, she considers herself the equal of anyone she encounters and won't stand for being treated as less.

Offs: Bathroom play, bestiality, maiming, underage

Personality: Often caught up in her own mind, Alexia can come off as cold or indifferent on a first (or seventh) meeting. If a person takes the time to crack through the brainiac shell, however, and learn how to pull her out of her own thoughts, they will find a sensual, kind, loyal, passionate woman with a love of books, music, dancing, good food, movies, almost anything that can get her out of her head for awhile.

Background: Born Lorelai Alexia Thorne-Thompson, she quickly got used to going by her middle name when she started school. Lorelai, though she found it pretty, did nothing but get her teased, and with her already odd (even at a young age) demeanor, and ability to breeze through even the most difficult of subjects, the last thing she needed was to give cruel children any more ammunition for teasing her. Luckily for her, one of her teachers recognized just how gifted the young Alexia was and knew of a special school for children like her, prodigies of various stripes and interests. It would have been expensive under normal circumstances, but with her test scores, and her (single) mother's lack of resources, she qualified for both an a scholarship that covered her tuition as well as room and board.

Being sent to a boarding school, away from her family, didn't really thrill her initially but once there, in a place that nurtured her, among other children with their own mental talents (though none quite like hers) and interests, she had to admit, that it was probably the best idea her mother had ever agreed to. She'd never have been able to get the proper support and education she needed from the public school system and would, most likely, have fallen through the cracks.

Employment History: Alexia hasn't worked anywhere but for the Company. She hasn't bothered to dig deep enough into personnel files to determine just when her particular gift brought her to their attention, it doesn't really bother her. After her graduation two agents showed up and made her a job offer she couldn't refuse. For her wasn't the promise of money (which sounded formidable to a freshly graduated young woman) but the promise that she would never be bored that clinched her saying yes in barely a heartbeat. She's been with them since and will admit that those agents weren't wrong...she's never had reason to complain of boredom.

Merits:

  • Generosity - Most people don't realize just how generous Alexia is, but a portion of her pay goes back to the school that educated, and another goes to her Mother. She also helps people in need when she thinks no one will find out it was her doing.
  • Integrity - You won't find someone more honest than Alexia...of course it's mostly because she doesn't usually see the point in lying more than from any inborn altruism.
Shortcomings:

  • Temper - Alexia becomes easily frustrate, or angry, when others don't listen to the cool logic and reason that she offers.
  • Overly Intellectual - With a mind like hers, it's easy to get lost in her own thoughts and miss out on actually living her life.

Hobbies: Alexia loves being physical, it reminds her to get out of her head. Running, rock climbing, horseback riding, dancing, swimming, tennis; you name it, she's willing to try it!

Face Claim: Scarlett Johansson

Role:Delivery boy, heavy-lifting, The Company's mascot and house pet, a gopher of sorts. He doesn't mind, he loves fetching things.
Recruitment Status: A veteran employee.
Employment History: William and Mikael go way back. When William joined The Company to stand by Dorian's side, he brought Mika along with him, and the large man quickly grew on everyone, including Dorian.
Appearance: His humanoid form is what you see in the picture, although perhaps more heavily built and wide jawed. As for his dog form-
Who's a good boy?

Sexuality: He'd hump anything. Be gentle, though.
On/Off: Click Here
Personality: Mikael is the nicest guy you'd ever meet. He gets along with anyone, which might pose as a problem for those who aren't comfortable with physical affection. He'd hug you when you first meet him, as if you've been a long lost friend. When you walk into a room, he'd be very excited to see you- even if you saw him just an hour ago. Mikael is the perfect cure for depression, but he can be a bit overbearing if you just want to have a moment to yourself. He's very fuzzy on boundaries; keep your shoes under lock and key.
Background:
Mikael, at least the one that we know today, is the result of an accident and a poorly aimed descending to earth. The angel that was Mikael was tasked with a heavenly mission, and was sent down to earth in order to complete it. His kin cannot truly manifest flash in the material world, they are forced to inhabit recently deceased bodies. The rest you can probably imagine, can't you? There was a car accident at an interstate road one night, a 45 tons delivery truck slid on the frosty road and practically crushed into a family car containing two mature adults and four of their children, The truck itself was derailed into a ditch.

There were plenty of bodies to choose from. Unfortunately for Mikael, his angel accidentally landed inside the truck driver's trusty dog. The angel tried to get out of the wrong body, but the flesh-healing process has already started and he was stuck. During his last conscious moments, the angel desperately sacrificed the remainder of his energy to give the dog a capable human form. That was how Mikael was created, without any meaningful knowledge of his formal existence, of the mission he was sent down to earth with or where he was headed. He knew his mission was of crucial importance, but he couldn't remember what it was. Mikael was lost.

Fortunately for him, lost things usually find their way into the hands of a collector, and after aimlessly wandering across Europe, Mikael found a gentle owner to take him in. William was so kind and patient with him, that he immediately earned Mikael fierce loyalty and devotion.

Merits:

  • Physical Strength. When the angel gave the dog a capable human form, he wasn't kidding about the 'capable' part. Mikael has an extraordinary upper body strength, he's not much of a fighter, but when raw strength is needed- Mikael comes running.
  • Loyalty. Mikael is fiercely loyal, he would do anything for his friends. He would (and has) take a bullet to protect any of them, putting his own safety aside.
Shortcomings:

  • Naïve. Mikael is too quick to trust, even when he clearly shouldn't.
  • Social Ignorance. Social subtleties are lost on him, he can't be taken into covert assignment, unless you want to present him as your 'simple' cousin from the country-side. That wouldn't be nice, though, shame on you for even considering that!
Hobbies: Playing, Cuddling, Running, Jumping, Yelling at the mailman and relentlessly searching for a neighborhood cat that would play with him (bunch of jerks).
Face Claim: Dimitris Papadakis.

The Computer/Tech Guy-
Leopold Sharp (Roen)
Name: Leopold Sharp (NEVER Leo!)
Age: Appears 20 years old
Sex: Male
Race: "Human".
Type: -CLASSIFIED-
Origin: N/A
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • Banging Computer Wiz. You know how some hackers would boast about breaking to the CIA internal network and hacking the government? Well, Leopold once replaced the CIA network, they never were the wiser. It was a particularly boring afternoon. He later deconstructed the stolen network and rebuilt it as The Company's shadow network.
  • Mathematical Genius. Honest, he's practically autistic.
  • Technical Engineering. Everyone needs a hobby, right?
Notable Equipment:

  • His laptop, his tablet, his smartphone. Touch any of those, and you're dead.
Role: Hacker, Tech Guy, Resident IT department.
Recruitment Status: A veteran employee.
Employment History: Dorian once called technical support about a faulty router. He didn't actually own a router, but he was tipped about a certain IT rep. Within the first 3 minutes of the call, Leopold managed to hack into the Company's expense account and Dorian's offshore savings account, transferring a ridiculous portion of it into 570 different charity funds. He was hired on the spot.
Appearance: Same as the picture above. Additional information is -CLASSIFIED-.
Sexuality: -CLASSIFIED-.
On/Off: Click Here
Personality: For those who have just met Leopold, the young man seem dry and uncaring. There is a flat tone to his voice that can drive a monk into a furious rampage. He either isn't able or isn't interested in diction; his monotonic vocal demeanor is almost alarming. Those that have known him for a while could tell you that he's also a prickly jerk.
Background:
Hi, it's me.

Who the bloody hell do you think you are, trying to access my personal files?
Piss off.

Ahem…
-CLASSIFIED-

L.
Merits:

  • "Beautiful Minds" type of intelligent. He's a genius, pure and simple.
  • Agile Mentality. He might not be much in the way of physical strength and agility, but he can recognize, decipher and solve logical and technical problems faster than it would take you to unlock your phone.
Shortcomings:

  • Dickhead. He's not easy to work with, which is why he usually stays in his lab.
  • Social Ignorance. Much like Mikael, he's clueless about how to carry himself around people. Not because he's an angelic possessed dog, mostly because he thinks everybody else is profoundly stupid.
Hobbies: Deconstructing complex software and high-end tech, playing video games and creating a couple at a novice level.
Face Claim: Burn Gorman.

WHAT am I LOOKING for?

First and foremost- I'm looking for a co-GM. This is going to be a very demanding game to manage, so if you're excited about the idea and have the time to put into this, I'd like your help! I'm talking about an equal partnership in the managing of the game, I'm talking about building the settings, doing the required research, handling the GM events with me and brainstorming together to make this game truly fantastic. PM ME if interested!

Players wise- at this preliminary stage, I'm thinking about a small group of 5-6 players. That depends on how many Co-GMs I get to help me with this. If I'm on my own, I'm only going to be able to handle the one small group. This also depends on how well the game and the plot goes, how many interested parties are found and how smoothly the game goes in the wet run.

Posting Rate- Every game has its preliminary stage of excitement and hype, when the posting rate is pretty crazy. Once it settles down, though, I think we're looking at 1-2 posts per a week, depending on how action-packed the game is at that week.
Posting Length- I really couldn't care less how long your posts are. I like the meat of the post, the actual thing people are supposed to react to. Commentaries can be so cool and fascinating, but only if you actually have something to comment about. I'd rather that you post a 1-2 paragraphs' post and not feel the need to pad your posts up for the word count. Be comfortable with your inspiration, write as much as it feels natural to you at that moment. Not every post has to be a work of art.

This isn't going to be a first-come-first-served kind of deal. I apologize in advance, group dynamics and group setup are very important to me at this stage, so I will bide my time with the approving process on some cases. In other cases, I might see a character that is exactly what I'm looking for, and then the process will be faster.

In terms of roles that I'm looking for, they vary, but there are also a few specific slots that require filling:

Secretary- Don't laugh, this is a company; it's important that there is someone to answer the phones, correlate the interactions, set up meetings and make sure that everything ticks. I might make the secretary into the Boss', Dorian's, personal assistant, his trusted confidant and bearer of announcements/summons. That largely depends on the character submitted, the personality and qualifications.

Weapons Specialist- A handler/developer of weapons/explosives.

Tech/Computer Guy- I might have a hacker of my own, but I want to see yours first.

A Scientist/Research and Development Manager- Someone to run the lab, I'm probably not going to accept the generic Dr. Frankenstein type of characters, unless they are extremely well-conceived.

*New!*

Interesting, but I'm not sure that I can hit the bar to actually get in if things are too picky about compatability with other characters. *shrugs* I create team players, but when no one knows what the team is made of... well... hard to do.

I was thinking about some sort of historian, quasi-human, but that's as far as I've gotten at this point
Oh boy. It might have come out a bit more intomidating than I intended it to be. Don't worry about compatibility, just be true to your vision and make something that you could have fun with! I'm taking down the compatibility remark. Sorry.

A historian character sounds interesting! I'm curious to see where you might take it.

Color me curious.  Need to think on a character concept and determine whether or not I can reasonably fit it into my schedule.

What are the current posting expectations? Once or twice a week?  Every day?

Well, to my experience, there is a sort of rush at the beginning of a game, because of the excitement. However, once that settles down, I expect the pace to be an average of  1-2 posts a week, depanding on the situation.

Secretaries is one of big ons... My interest has grown :)

I've had a hankering for playing Geist:The Sin-Eaters for a while, so I'm thinking of a ghost-based monster, I'm wondering if some kind of possessed person or someone risen from the dead could count as a monster? I'm also faltering around a Lovecraftian take on the Fae (Satyr or tentacles hidden under clothing, perhaps both?)...

What do people think sounds good or would prefer?

CShades

I just want to say I fell in love with the introduction. I'll keep an eye on this and see if I can pick only one monster at some point :D

First of, I'd like to say how flattered and blessed I feel to see these votes of interest, it tells me that you have faith in my vision, and that means a lot.

I'd also like to thank all of the people that have PMed me with character ideas. I'm sorry for not getting back to you yet, I just feel like it wouldn't be fair for me to judge your character sheets before having posted my format and letting you know what I expect from characters in this game. The approval process might take a couple of days, as said above, and I'd be grateful for your patience.

Also, I want to put it out there that I'm still looking for a co-GM on this. If you think you can get excited about this idea and work on it with me, don't be shy! I might bite, but you might like it.  ::)

Wander, your ideas sound great. I like both of them, lots of promise and potential on both. I like the tentacle under suit idea, and I just LOVE Lovecraft. However, Lovecraft has a tendency to dehumanize his monsters, his thing is to make them as alienated as possible- just make sure you don't do that, cause that's what separates the good guys from the bad guys in this game.

Thanks for the reply Roen :)

Oh for sure I'm not one of those people who *sits in the corner and waits* in rps and neither would I say I could really be happy playing someone quite dehumanised to essentially be a baddy. So the Lovecraftian Satyr as a member of the Fae is something fairly well developed... I'd like to have the ghost-linked idea as a strong second one, just incase...
Mainly because I think if I nail the high concept, it can have alot of potential. I'm thinking death-spirits, various haunting tropes, day of the dead regalia, ghost-whispering, perhaps something more akin to a Grim Reaper? If in modern day, imagine someone wearing a black hoodie and is essentially a perky goth boy that sees the dead due to himself being some kind of death spirit? Just kind of brain-spewing now, but essentially thems my two ideas I'd like to work going in and to see who people like more or could suggest something to add to them or inspire me a bit :)

Roen

Wander, I love the the thought process! I'm sure it would turn out great.

Looks like my homework for tomorrow is finding a cool character pic! :)

I'm a little intimidated by the sheet, as I'm sure people will be writing mini-essays for their backstory etc... I'm going to hang back and see what kind of sheets come in before I get mine up, if noone minds. I need a good pic to base the character around anyway, as I feel once I solidify a portrait, I'll be more inspired and the character should flow better :)

There's no need to feel intimidated. The format is fairly detailed, yes, but I find that having multiple sections to a character sheet actually makes it easier to fill it out, all the information that you have on your character is broken down to separate sections, and most of them require a word or two at most. As for the background section... I found that if one is excited enough about a character, they can write on and on with no end. However, it's not necessary! If you get your point across in 2-3 paragraphs- that's fine by me.

Our aim is to have fun  ;D
Have fun with your character, and don't worry about making the sheet look good.

Also, if you need any help with it. I'm usually around to answer your PMs.

Caela

Caehlim

Name: Jude (Judas Iscariot)
Age: 2,018 (Physically appears late twenties-early thirties)
Sex: Male
Race: Immortal Human
Type: Human cursed with immortality
Origin: Extrapolated from heavily reinterpreted Christian mythology. (My own ideas though).
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • World-languages: Having travelled the world for the past 2000 years, Jude speaks a lot of languages many of them currently dead languages.
  • World-history: He's lived through history from the classical period to modern day, combined with a lot of keen reading he has a good knowledge of world history.
  • Geography: He's been practically everywhere on the planet at one point or another and knows his way around, albeit much of this knowledge is out of date.
  • Accomplished liar: With a lot of experience with people comes a keen knowledge of manipulation, combined with practice at keeping his extraordinary past secret.
  • Experienced Swordsman: He learned to fight back when swords were a common instrument of war and has an edge over most modern fencers to whom it's just a plaything. Combined with centuries of practice, he's quite handy with a blade.
  • Aware of the Supernatural: He's bumped into plenty of things just as strange as himself over the years. While he doesn't know the specifics of the supernatural creatures that haunt the night, he's aware that they exist. Largely though he's never had much interest in them.
  • Generic skills: While not experienced with the science and technology of today, he's learned the basics of just about everything else while waiting out a boring decade or two. He knows how to do just about anything that a person can master in a lifetime, although he's rarely up to date with any of them.
Notable Equipment:

  • Extremely wealthy: Thirty silver coins adds up to a lot of interest over two millennia.
  • Historical collection: He has a lot of "lost" works of arts and books within his private collections.
  • Church contacts: The Vatican has been aware of his existence for a long time, ever since he tried reaching out to his old friend Peter. His relationship with the church has explored a vast range of possibilities over the last two thousands years, but now they've settled into a strangely comfortable co-existence. There are a few senior members of the church who know exactly who he is, although it's a secret from the general laity. These days they help him out with keeping his secret and keep an eye on him. Occasionally he gets visits from priests who want to hear about his time as a disciple, although they've come to realize that he usually just messes with them when they do.
Appearance: As pictured.
Sexuality: Adventurous and bored. Things like people's gender doesn't register for him anymore. He avoids romance, being uncomfortable watching loved ones die of old age, however the sheer physical fun of sex can still interest him when he's in the mood.
On/Off: Click here
Personality: Coping with his immortality has rendered him somewhat manic-depressive, while not suffering from the clinical disorder itself, the human mind isn't built to live forever and so his mood tends to swing a bit between extremes. At times he has trouble going on for another damn year, while at other times he's as excited as a kid experiencing the new wonders the world occasionally provides him with.
Background: Born in 4 BCE, Judas was raised within a wealthy well-educated orthodox family in Galilee. The youngest child of the family, his parents had a hard time disciplining him and he was something of a minor rebel often bored with the small town life that he knew. He took up traveling, whenever he could find the excuse, and often shirked the responsibilities of home to travel around experimenting with whatever scandalous new schools of thought were around. It wasn't surprising that he sought out the rogue Rabbi that everyone was talking about, eventually tracking down and befriending Yeshua of Nazareth.

Along with eleven close friends, he traveled with this controversial figure as he taught a new interpretation of the faith, challenging some of the orthodox teachings and confronting the established temple hierarchy. It was a good time for the young man, who felt that he was doing something important with his life and serving a cause. Over and over again he would ask Yeshua if there wasn't something more that he could do, but it was always answered with a sad smile and a reply of "not yet". When the request came, it was something he'd never expected or imagined he could do. It was the hardest choice he'd ever made in his life, but he followed his friend's request, betraying him to the authorities to fulfill what he was told would be the divine plan.

He saw the torture and murder of his best friend, knowing that he was responsible. All his old friends turned away from him. He was left holding a cash bribe in silver that he had never wanted while he seemed to have lost everything else in his life. So he went to his field and hung himself. That was when he found out what his friend meant went he said there would be another, more extraordinary price to pay. He could not die. He has traveled the Earth now for two millennia, alternatively embracing his dark reputation and seeking redemption. Over the years he's struggled with coming to terms with his actions and immortality, still not quite managing it despite countless human lifetimes.

Some call him the worst human to ever live and there are times in the dark of the night, remembering what happened to his best friend that he agrees with them. Other times he wonders whether he could deserve the fate that has been assigned to him. Perhaps Judas Iscariot only needs to find the right place where he can help. Perhaps another struggling immortal can set him on the right track. Those are his hopes, two thousand years later when he joins young Dorian Grey's new organization.

Merits:

  • Cannot die: By divine decree, he simply can't die. Despite searching for the last two millennia he's never found anything that can permanently kill him. As the most extreme example he once managed to use some contacts to get himself on the Trinity test site at ground zero for the first atomic bomb, woke up naked nearby a few days later. As an immortal though, he appears to have lost the mortal ability to create new life and is completely infertile.
  • Cannot experience permanent injury: His body naturally heals until it is perfectly mended and faster than an ordinary human would without scarring or side-effects. However it's not wolverine fast. A broken limb might take a day or two, a broken spine could take a few weeks. It still hurts and incapacitates him just as much, although he does have a lot of experience with handling injuries and pain. He still occasionally gets sick, although his immune system is used to most illnesses now, always recovers eventually and rids the disease from his system.
  • Familiar with divine energies: After his time as a disciple and being the recipient of a divine curse, he's quite sensitive to the presence of divine energy. He can recognize angels or demons when he encounters them in the mortal world or other phenomena that are part of the judeo-christian spectrums of the supernatural.
  • Immutable: The same divine curse that keeps him perpetually alive, also prevents magic from changing him in any way. Although he can still be physically affected by magics, being thrown about by telekinesis or set on fire with magical flames, he can not be altered or changed through magic.
Shortcomings:

  • Mark of Cain: He has been supernaturally marked as part of his divine curse. Anyone sensitive to the existence of the supernatural can sense a powerful force has worked upon him. Those sensitive to the judeo-christian spectrum of supernatural energies (angels, demons, gnostic mystics, qabala practitioners, etc) can recognize it as a divine curse.
  • Non-magical: Jude is no longer part of the mortal realm and is unable to use or employ magics of any sort.
  • Anachronistic: While he's learned to fit in and change with the times, things like computers and phones are still very recent inventions to him. He understands that they exist and roughly how they work, but he's not going to be setting up a twitter account any time soon.
  • Vulnerable to depression: His years of life weigh heavily upon him, and he tends to be self-destructive and fall victim to depression and ennui. Often he is his own worst enemy.
  • Merely human: While not a shortcoming per se, I'm adding this to the list as an extra item so that it's mentioned. Beyond his immortality and experience he has no extraordinary abilities whatsoever. He isn't super-strong, any faster than a regular human, he's clever and experienced but not a genius, etc.
Hobbies: Art: A field in which Jude has absolutely no natural talent. Thousands of years of practice has achieved theoretical mastery and technical precision. He can sketch a person with the detail of a photograph, but whatever creative spark true artists possess was never given to him. His work tends to be flawless, but uninspired and lacking in creativity.
Chess: A game that has been around almost as long as he has, he's played it extensively over the years. He can beat most people through sheer experience, and yet again he's found plenty of people more talented than he who can still beat him. Despite an extensive past, he's just not that good at seeing ahead for all possible outcomes.
Reading: Jude always loved to read, beginning with Greek and Aramaic texts from the classical world as a child but now ranging to everything from Harry Potter and cosmopolitan magazines to obscure philosophical or religious texts.
Chemical Abuse: When existing is becoming too difficult, the closest thing to non-existence he's discovered is the relief of losing himself to a variety of chemical vices, starting with alcohol and going a lot stronger. Fortunately his body doesn't appear capable of physiological addiction or dependence, however when sufficiently distressed he can find himself having a psychological need.

How did YOU Find Us? Through you :P

Role: Librarian and book-based researcher. Also willing to accompany the team out into the field, using his skills to translate, guide or where required die for the team.
Recruitment Status: Recruited.
Employment History: Jude is independently wealthy and hasn't had to work much in recent history. His referral to the company came through a secret order of the Vatican church. Some of the priests who visit him are secretly tasked with being his undercover shrink, and after a complaint that he was bored they found out about the company through some inquisition demon hunters who had been approached for recruitment. When the priests tried to talk him into it, he acted as though he was completely uninterested and had no desire to join, however the moment they left he was on the phone to Dorian Grey's company to arrange an interview. He's a volunteer and has no desire to be paid, just looking for a challenge and a way to help people.

Hehehe...sorry it sounded a bit abrupt. I am fairly decent at finding pictures though, have had to try to hunt down too many names not to have picked up a few skills. :D

I'm seeing Jude as being possibly an onsite librarian for the group, as well as being happy to go on field missions since while he's not terribly potent in a confrontation he has no fear of death and is quite happy to die for the group as many times as is needed. He might work with the research team, covering the book-research while they do the high-tech science type stuff.

Hey, guys. Happy to see some of you are already working your ideas into the sheets.

What I've seen so far seems great!
I've messed up, though >_>
I've left three important sections out of the CS format, so here they are-

Role: *What role do you envision for your character to take in the company/the operational squad? Keep in mind, The Company might have different plans for your character*
Recruitment Status: Recruited/Yet to be recruited. *If you want to play out your recruitment process, mark the 'yet to be recruitment' one. Doing so would mean that you (and I) will have to think of a reason to make a mini-plot out of your character's recruitment process. Also, bear in mind that it would mean a bit of a waiting time before your character can get into the thick of things.*
Employment History: *No need for a list of previous jobs, but if your character has been recruited- how did it come to the employment of The Company?*

Also, I think I might have inadvertently bullied you about the power levels of your characters ._.
I do want you to steer away from the epic, but don't fear giving your monsters unique powers and attributes. I mean, that's why they've been sought out and recruited. This game is loosely based off on Penny Dreadful and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, so about that level of power and monstrosity (maybe even more so) is acceptable. The enemies are eventually going to be pretty powerful, so to make the plot more interesting and the missions more complicated, but it also means that The Company is looking for agents with exceptional abilities. Think Marvel, Joss Whedon (Buffy, unless you hated it, in which case- don't think Buffy >_>) level of monsters.

Also, I'm about to post the GM characters' sheets. If you feel that you'd like to change your sheets for sake of diversity or simply just for fun, you're more than welcome to.

I am sadly intimidated by things now... :( I really don't know where to start and I don't have much inspiration to think to the level of including an employment history for a character...

Employment history is simply stating how your character came to join The Company, Wander.

Back to the drawing board.

I'm sorry, I got your and wander's post mixed up and thought you'd changed your concept. Now that I look back over the thread I can see I was mistaken. I didn't mean to fill a role you were looking at taking.

Roen, I'll edit those into my sheet but think I actually manged to cover most of it anyway. Will just separate that stuff out and five it it's own sections.

Caela

Johnny Pilgrim

Name: Johnny Pilgrim
Age: 30
Sex: Male, identifies as such.
Race: Possessed Human
Type: A death-spirit, one who tears anchors to the living world away for people to pass on.
Origin: Bleach, Geist, Jacob's Ladder
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • The spirit keeps Johnny conscious all the time, he cannot be knocked out. He does feel pain though and can essentially be knocked down hard enough that he can't move, though he will still be awake... This isn't really a good thing for someone who'd perhaps want to be KO'd to avoid the pain.
  • If Johnny is killed, the spirit within will resurrect him the next sunrise/set, shunting the death energy to someone else who will die instead. He has no control of this and sees the death from that person's POV as he wakes, which is emotionally destabilising for him
  • Using his Death Mask Johnny can see and speak to all ghosts, even those not manifested and visible to others. He has been noted of 'talking to thin air' more than once.
  • Johnny can use his blood to raise the dead, though Johnny must sacrifice whilst the person is arisen what he wishes to allow them to have once up, for example full and unimpeded movement like a normal person leaves him paralysed whilst he is keeping the person risen. The Risen must have a ghost: IE: They still have unfinished business to attend to. Risen will come back as zombies, shallow shells of who they were etc. unless Johnny donates part of his bodie's capacity to them.
  • Johnny's Death Mask; Upon donning his Mask, Johnny can see imminent deaths of non-humans as a timer above their head, it's accurate to the second though it goes no higher than hours, so is near useless for someone with months or years left of life as Johnny can't be bothered to do the math. Also directly looking at the timer can cause Fate to be effected in strange ways, so Johnny tries not to see such things upon donning his Mask. Also, places where people have died will feel cold to him and he will see what killed someone upon looking at their body.
Notable Equipment:

  • Death Mask (A ceramic day of the dead styled skull mask, source of certain powers: see above)
  • Holy Water
  • Salt
Role: Representative of the dead, Necromancer (keeping people in the company! Not even death will free you!), Forensics, Mortician.
Recruitment Status: Yet to be recruited.
Employment History: N/A
Appearance: Johnny tends to wear clothing with black hoods, otherwise he seems to be just a regular guy until his powers manifest.
Sexuality: Bi, errs to feminine appearances, top and light dom at times.
On/Off: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=215355.0
Personality:
Johnny is a guy who is quite outgoing and tries to be friendly, being essentially a 'perky goth'. Some may say his interest in death is somewhat morbid (it can be on occasion), though he'd like to think more he finds life in higher regard, drinking and being merry for tomorrow he too could be gone (something he tends to dwell on in his worst moments...). He knows to be a ghost is a somewhat tormented existance and he does his best to let ghosts pass on or otherwise get involved when the worlds of the living and the dead collide. He is somewhat flirtacious in nature in a rather innocent seeming way and his confidence flickers on and off as his psyche is a mix of his old self and the death-spirit that dwells within him now.
Background:
Johnny could always sense in his peripheral vision that there was some other type of world out there, some kind of spiritual thing. Whilst he could never directly see the ghosts that would crowd around him, he could sense them in a manner. Every person holds within them a type of essence that governs how connected their spirit is to the world around them and it varies from person to person, so it should be no surprise that Johnny's measure is a bit off... He was born with a link to the world of the dead. Perhaps his mother was attacked by a ghost when she was pregnant with him, maybe his father was possessed when he was concieved, maybe both... Either way, he was born with a connection to ghosts.

Outside of this Johnny had a pretty normal life until one day he got into a fatal accident and he found himself on death's door. When it was his time to pass on or sink into the Underworld however, he came face to face with something that could only be described as a 'Grim Reaper'. The spirit offered Johnny a deal, instead of dying, he could come back to life and let the death-spirit come with him, to balance the world of the living of the influx of ghosts Johnny's strange inner essence had created along with helping those they found to pass on. Accepting, Johnny bonded to the death-spirit, essentially becoming an Agent of Death. He is currently travelling cross-country and making ghosts pass on, the removal of their influences from places having various effects on the landscape around him.

Merits:

  • Hopeful: Strangely enough Johnny is a hopeful person... Whenever life gets the worst of us, whilst he may get down too, he tends to hope something good will happen eventually or a small part of him believes something good has to happen or the end won't be as bad as people think...
  • Charming: Johnny will spend time with anyone and give anyone a chance 99% of the time. He links to find bonds with people, something ironic considering the type of thing he does (break other's strong bonds to things), perhaps he just likes people and he does his job for their benefit. Perhaps he is wanting to be the only person close to him fettered by his bonds, therefore eating other people's sins for them...
Shortcomings:

  • Damaged Goods: Johnny isn't particularly mentally unstable, but something has clearly affected him to the state where his viewpoint of things isn't exactly healthy. He can be quite morbid and downtrodden in his manners. He tends to put a bit of a front on and he has his talents he tries to find escapism in, but even the most forgiving people can say whilst he's a perky goth boy, he can come across occasionally as quite... emo.
  • Sickly: It only makes sense for one holding a spirit of death inside their soul that they seem to be on death's door almost constantly. Johnny is not at peak physical condition and you can see it looking at him, he is skinny, struggles with physical tasks and seems generally not well. His movements can seem strained and also marionette like, as if something else is occasionally jerking his corpse of a body around...
Hobbies: Drinking, drawing, photography, playing guitar, skateboarding, going on walks and exploring new places.
Face Claim: Unknown, sorry :(

I'm going to leave the GM character up there for the meanwhile, once your tech guy is approved, I'll take mine down or change it into something else.

I've done a chunk of my character sheet on p.2 of the thread, I could sure do with some opinions to see if they're okay... I've mainly worked on their supernatural template, their actual personality I've yet to fill in. They also own a mask that will add some powers when they wear it... I'm still fiddling round, but the main concept is of a person that breaks ghost's connections to the living world. To those who want to go, they're angelic, to those who cling hard and don't want their bonds removed, they can be like a demon...

Hadley Eerebo / Darkling Changeling / B&E and Information Specialist
Name: Hadley Erebo
Age: 25
Sex: Male
Race: Human-Looking
Type: Darkling Changeling
Origin: Based off the 'Changeling: The Lost' in History, but the powers weren't copies of their 'Contracts.'
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • Shadow Control: Hadley can create and manipulate shadows that extend beyond the 'absence of light' and are a force of their own. Shadows under his control can exist even in the presence of light, but the brighter the light, the more the shadows suffer.
  • Shadow Weaponry: Hadley's ability to create and manipulate shadow can be used to create simple tools, close range weapons, and plates of armor made of tangible and unmistakably black shadow. In dark places, these weapons can be as sharp as obsidian; in sunlight, the weapons are more like dull iron. Shadow can also be made into ropes and tentacles to bind and constrict.
  • Shadow Form: Hadley can turn his body into his own shadow. This allows him to be two-dimensional; able to move along any surface, even vertical ones or fluids, or slip in through even the tiniest crack. His shadow form contains about the same size, but can be stretched out into inhuman shapes. In darkness, he can dart about the room in a blur, but in brighter light, the speed that he can move is reduced drastically; with sunlight making him move at a snail's pace. He can bring a small amount of external materials with him, but not much more than light clothing and his meager equipment.
Notable Equipment:

  • Multitool: Hadley will typically rely upon his Shadow Crafting to create any tools he needs to pick locks or disable security systems; but a single multitool fills in the gaps.
  • Smartphone: A source of communication, data storage, and a camera for gathering information.
Role: Breaking and Entering, Information Gathering
Recruitment Status: Recruited two months ago; still new to the idea of a structured society.
Employment History: Hadley had stolen from a member of the Company and didn't even know the value of what he had stolen. When the Company sent people after him, Hadley ran as he did from any pursuer. When the Company did finally catch up with him, and after a debriefing to confirm he wasn't working for any other organization, they offered him a job.
Appearance: Picture provided works pretty well.
Sexuality: Homosexual; Bottom/Submissive
On/Off: Player's O/Os

  • Ons: Trespassing/New Locations; 'Powered' Sex; Exotic Anatomy (Genitalia/Fluids); Crime; Drugs/Aphrodisiacs
  • Offs: Femininity; Bondage; Shy/Nervous People
Personality: Hadley missed out on a big chunk of his life, and he has no idea how Arcadia's changes to his body will effect his life span. He's going to live to make up for any life he missed and could miss in the future. He's excitable
Background: TL;DR: Stolen away at 13 and brought to a world of darkness and guerilla war. It was ten years for him, but only four years in the real world. Had to start a new life, stealing and living under the radar to get by.
Detailed Backstory
When Hadley was a boy, his parents always told him to get home before it got so dark that the street lights would turn on. When Hadley got thirteen, he thought he was grown up enough that he could stay out a little later. The street lights never turned on for him; the night darkness enveloped him, and he was taken from his world to a new one.

The years that followed were vague and indistinct for Hadley, which was most likely a coping mechanism for him to deal with it. He knows he was kept against his will in a dark world alongside other captives. There was what could only be described as a guerrilla war between his keeper and some other force. He knows he would have been killed if he didn't cooperate, and he saw other captives die either from disobedience or in their duty.

He found a mote of light, and him and two others attempted to use it to escape. The other two didn't make it, but Hadley eventually found himself out and free, realizing four years had passed, even if he was aged ten years. When he got home, he found that nobody had noticed he had left -- a Fetch of leaves and shadow had formed a perfect copy of him that took over when he left. Hadley tried to reintegrate himself, but he had aged faster than his Fetch, and his family had no reason to trust the mad ravings of a stranger when their 'son' had never left them.

Hadley went off on his own, forced to live on the streets with no identity or money. He stole and worked with the seedier parts of the city to get by for two years. He saw a well dressed member of the Company, and without knowing who they were, stole a briefcase from them simply because he expected it to be valuable. The Company made chase, and Hadley kept them going for three days before they caught up with him. From there, they offered him a job, and Hadley couldn't turn the excitement they promised, a new legal identity, or the ridiculous pay check that came with the job.

Merits:

  • Stealth: Hadley's main skill set consists of going unseen; whether it's tailing somebody in a dark place, moving unseen through a crowd, or sleight of hand.
  • Darkvision: Hadley's immersion into darkness and shadow has made his eyes function even in pitch black environments.
Shortcomings:

  • Light Vulnerability: All of Hadley's shadow powers suffer in light, with sunlight being the worst.
  • Cleithrophobia: Fear of being restrained. Hadley was imprisoned for an unclear amount of time, and any instance where somebody else has control over his freedom of movement or locking him up in any way will be met with frantic resistance.
  • Adrenaline Junky: Hadley's desire to feel alive can easily be seen as irresponsible. Thankfully, the Company's interests tend to play into this desire.
  • No Shadow: Hadley's own shadow is merged with his body, meaning that he doesn't create any natural shadow of his own. It's a clear indication that something about him is 'different.'
Hobbies: Urban Exploration (see: Trespassing); Parkour; Nondescript Partying.
Face Claim: See Picture; Not sure who he is.

How did YOU Find Us? I have a serious of cameras around Roen's home and watch everything he does. Kidding, I just stumbled across it in my obsessive combing of the "Role Play Request" threads.

EDIT: Changed some of the timeline dates (how many years) to make sure there was no possible conflict with E's rules.

Great job with the timeframe, lockpick! Lol :P
We'll get back to you about approval asap.

You've caught my interest, but I have no idea what I would want to play. Figures... Love the concept though.

I'll try to come up with something suitable in the next day or two, if not I guess it's not meant to be.
Wow, so much fun seeing those votes of interest! Thank you!
I'd love to get your submission, BP. Syk, if you need any help with the character coceptualizaion process, Caela and I are just a PM away!

Hey there Roen, congrats on the ad on the main page :)

Also, I added some more to my char sheet, changed the powers about to add inherent weaknesses and more reliance on the creepy Hollow-style mask. Added personality, shall add a little backstory today. I'm also getting some muse from the film 'Meet Joe Black' for my character, so a little of that will be slipped into the backstory I'll get to placing up later today :)

Props to lockepick for playing a Darkling! They were my faves in C:tL :)

Sheesh, go to work for the weekend and y'all get busy on me, lol. I like the interest people are showing and look forward to seeing what other concepts folks come up with. :D

I'm working on race ideas...

Right now I've got the following as possibilities:

Wendigo
Banshee (Bane-sidhe/Bean si)
Anansi
Dragon
Sphinx
Basilisk
Doppelganger/Mimic
Will-o'-the-wisp

So many ideas. x.x
I want no ordinary lover. I want a storm. I want sleepless nights and endless conversations at four a.m. I want passion, I want madness.
I want someone who's able to make my whole body shiver from a distance and also pull me close to make sense of all my bones.

@Wander: I actually found it really hard to find a creature/monster in myth that was Shadow themed that wasn't also super evil, super generic, or snakes. And I didn't want to wedge snakes into the character. Changeling is kind of an easy catch all for any type of custom monster.
Like what you see? I am currently looking for new plots!

Argh woman, don't get the plot bunnies rumbling when I already owe posts elsewhere!!! lol My muse is being finicky recently but the plot bunnies are still happily breeding away! I look forward to seeing what you do with any of those (or any other) idea...and may swipe one of those that you don't use if/when I make another character. Going to hold off on doing that til more people have characters though and then maybe make a couple NPCs to fill in any gaps we might still have. :D

How do you think I feel?! I can't make my muse stop coming up with new ideas long enough to settle on one so I can focus on it. x.x

On the one hand...

A Wendigo would be SO MUCH FUN, but I worry it's too close to a "marrow sucker" as stated in the OP...
Banshees are always a favorite of mine, but I have played so many so I might not go with that...
Anansi are fun because spider shape shifters are <3!
Dragons are a fun fall back if nothing else takes.
Sphinxs are brilliant because who doesn't love a creature who knows practically everything but never gives you a straight answer and makes you puzzle things out before you know wtf they're talking about. ::)
Basilisk because d00d, who doesn't like the "I can turn you to stone and kill you with a drop of venom" concept. Plus... she'd be a blast to try to recruit. xD
Doppelganger/Mimics would make amazing con artists/research specialists. Imagine being able to walk in to a bank looking like the most wealthy client they have and just make a huge withdrawl with no one being the wiser. Or to impersonate a senator to influence a particularly important vote...
Will-o-the-wisps are a blast because I could play her as malevolent but playful. >.> She'd probably be a bit of a wild card among the group.
I want no ordinary lover. I want a storm. I want sleepless nights and endless conversations at four a.m. I want passion, I want madness.
I want someone who's able to make my whole body shiver from a distance and also pull me close to make sense of all my bones.

I dig it... My char has a fair chunk of a Sin-Eater slipped into their design, muddled with a Vizard and a few other things I happened to think fit :)

Are you still looking for players? If you still are, I'm pretty much interested in taking up the weapon expert/handler... and I was thinking of a kamaitachi (thought about a tengu too, but it doesn't fit too much on what I'm thinking as a possible play style). Let me know so I can start to jot down a character sheet as soon as possible.

Not sure if this would work, but here's a partially done character sheet:

Appearance:
other pics

Sexuality: Bi, with a heavy preference towards women.
On/Off: Not much.
Personality: : Somewhat arrogant yet complex. Artistic, and generally outspoken. Considerably bold, he isn't afraid to confront people, nor is he worried about the impression he leaves since he's simply being himself. At least, he tends to portray himself as such, though being a creature of illusion, he can deceive and delude even himself, creating multiple personalities accordingly. He has no qualms about killing people, yet he is not above doing good deeds, such as saving people from a fire or donating some money. Of course, he is still ruthless and can be vengeful to an extent. He as a slightly jaded, cynical outlook a fair amount of the time, and isn't too sane. There's also something "enthralling" about him, and it's more or less impossible to get the complexity of his mind. He can have a dry ironic, and dark sense of humour, and is sometimes cold, yet warm and cordial at other times. Can be prideful, and at other times, wrathful. Has many other facets to his personality. He usually seems quite charismatic and friendly, though that's one among many outer façades, and it's far more complex than that, with elements both dark and mysterious included. Despite knowing as much as he knows, he's never one to pass an opportunity to further his own knowledge, as well as increase his power and range of abilities. Somewhat masochistic, and as per being a Kitsune, a trickster.
Background: Seiko was born in 1286, the heir to the Tsuchimikado Clan (once known as the Abe clan, of which the famous Japanese equivalent to Merlin, Abe no Seimei came from. And originally descended from a son of Emperor Kōgen, who reigned from 214 BC – 158 BC that served as Onmyouj and therefore spiritual advisors, including diviners, exorcists, alchemists, seers and astrologists in the Imperial Court for centuries to come. Like Abe no Seimei, Seiko was not entirely human, with his mother being a Kitsune. Accordingly, he was given a true name, which he was to never tell anyone, lest they gain complete control over him- Suigetsu. Even from his childhood days Seiko was identified as a genius in whatever it was that he took to doing, and a once-in-a-generation prodigy. He is surprisingly knowledgeable about a considerable number of things, from history and music to art and the sciences- and on a more evident note, the occult. His fascination with conflict also leant him a proficiency with some weapons as soon as he as able to delve into that kind of area, as well as a number of martial arts from different parts of Japan, in time coming to include styles that would come into being hundreds of years later; his interest no less dimmed. As he grew up, he was acutely aware of how others often envied his abilities, and whilst he was fairly young; his potential. He would end up attaining the ire of a few rival Onmyouji, including one from a branch family of the Tsuchimikado clan, which naturally introduced more unpleasant elements into the equation. In other areas, he became something of a renowned painter, as well as skilled at smithing with various metals, and as a musician.

Mastering Onmyoudo, his unique synthesis of various different styles, including those of other Onmyouji clans like the Dairenji, Souma, Kurahashi, and Momoe, would draw a fair degree of renown upon himself, as well as revitalize Onmyoudo in Japan. Through both his actions and his odd personality, he attained a considerable number of followers. At some point in the 1400s, he became the head of the Onmyo Bureau, with the headquarters situated in Kyoto. Some of his investigation into the lesser known elements of Onmyoudo also resulted in him rediscovering Abe no Seimei's forbidden research on immortality, resulting in Seiko being unable to age. Though it turned out he wasn't the only one interested in this knowledge, and one of those rivals in the branch family, a mysterious and manipulative Onmyouji known by the name of Kurayami Tsuchimikado, also obtained it.

Later on, he would end up tutoring Yasutomi Tsuchimikado in the mid-Edo period, who, influenced by his own style, officially formulated a more commonly used form of Onmyoudo originating from their clan.

Rarely getting involved on any particular side during the Sengoku period, he used his influence to create academies for Onmyouji in different parts of Japan, also taking to travelling to other parts of the world at points. Though at one point he aided the Uesugi Clan against Shingen of the Takeda, and was targeted by Chiyome Mochizuki several times, later retracting his involvement, since he found well-executed assassination attempts to be something of a hassle to deal with. Though Shingen's mysterious death in 1573 could have potentially been Seiko's doing, as payback of sorts. Nonetheless, he was also heavily involved in many of the conflicts during the warring states period, being known both for his skill in onmyodo, and his talent with a blade.

Later on, due to the machinations of some of his enemies, including those outside of Japan, the Meiji Restoration ended up proving to be a blow to the influence of Onmyouji, after the Emperor proclaimed Onmyoudo to be nothing more than a superstition in the mid-1800s, prohibiting it as such. Nonetheless, with organisations dedicated to him, like the Twin Horn Syndicate, as well as Seiko becoming a key figure in the Imperial Japanese military, he was able to lead a modernised Japan to victory in the first Sino-Japanese war, as well as the Russo-Japanese war.

However, in the second world war, things would become far more complicated, said complications also being present in the overlapping second Sino-Japanese war. Whilst helping Japan via occult aid to various victories in the earlier parts of both, including the Battle of Singapore, in which 130,000 Allied troops became prisoners of war. Though other events were also due to his machinations, including the events that followed the capture of Nanjing by Imperial Japanese forces in 1937.

During the war, the Onmyo Agency was established, as a new take on the Onmyo Bureau, by request of the military with the original intent to utilize magic to boost their strength in the war. With the Bureau being established and then reintegrated into the military with the purpose of creating more Onmyouji. Naturally, Seiko was installed as the Agency's first head.

When the decisive battle of Midway occurred, Seiko knew that without more serious help, there would be a gradual takeover and defeat of Japan. It would only be several months later when back in Kyoto, an extremely potent summoning ritual would be sabotaged by some of his long time rivals, lead by a certain Kurayami Tsuchimikado. Opponents also included those under an organisation backed by a cabal of occultists in remnants of China that weren't under Japanese control. It would spiral out of control, creating a massive spiritual disaster in the Kansai region, from which ran rampant various demons and types of malicious Youkai, and resulting in his disappearance for nearly twenty years. During said disappearance, Seiko can recall little other than that bad stuff happened. His disappearance, and the aftermath of the disaster, resulted in Japan being in such dire straits that they would rapidly begin to loose the war, with the official surrender merely a few years later. Though America's superior resources and numbers, among other things, would play a fair part. To a degree, some Onmyouji still blame him for the disaster, though a majority nonetheless retain their respect and reverence for him.

In regards to the Onmyo Agency; when the war ended, its focus changed and became a bureaucratic body charged with regulating the now more widely spread system of Onmyoudo, as well as dealing with the frequent spiritual disasters in Tokyo and other areas, specifically Kyoto, which still remains spiritually unstable. It has jurisdictions and legalities over all things concerning magic in Japan. It is because of this that organization has run into some unrest with more traditional members and sects of Onmyoudo who feel that their ways are being trampled upon.

Returning in 1961, Seiko rebuilt his influence over the next three decades, with the help of the increasingly influential Twin Horn Syndicate, which had secretly prophesied his return following the war, whilst their leader, Atsune Hirata, used the disillusionment caused by Japan's defeat to recruit new generations of Onmyouji to their cause. Seiko also reinforced his status as leader of the main organisation of Onmyodo, despite the setbacks caused by the Great Spiritual Disaster of late 1942, and his disappearance.

What balance of Merits and Shortcomings would you like to see with Johnny, Roen? I do believe at this point that's the only element I have left for the character sheet :)

EdwardShane

mmmmm.......I might be interested, perhaps.  I've been itching to play a manticore girl lately, and haven't gotten to do that a lot...
Would it be too much for the humanoid monster to have wings and a tail?  perhaps claws or other monstrous attributes as well?  if it would make it easier, would having all of the above be retractable (or lycan-esque shapechanging, or some other method of hiding the non humanish bits) be acceptable?

If Roen agrees, I'd say those attributes should be fine so long as they can be hidden in some fashion whether it's specialized clothing, glamour, shapechanging, etc. is up to you, but to have made it without a mob trying to lynch her at some point, being able to hide things like wings and tail would be handy.

Ahhh all right.  It'd probably be the shapechanging one then, more likely than not.  I'll start thinking about how to fill out a character sheet soon.  Granted, I dunno if this character would fill any of the slots you guys are looking for or not, but we'll see what my muse comes up with.

Don't feel like you have to pigeon-hole the character into a specific slot. The suggestions in the intro aren't the only positions available. Make your character and we'll see how she fits into things.

EdwardShane

Name: Lauren Walters
Age: 27
Sex: Female
Race: Chimera
Type: Manticore
Origin: Several sources, but primarily Pathfinder, a Monster Girl Encyclopedia entry, and a few video games
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • Heightened Senses - Manticores have enhanced eyesight, hearing, and smelling capabilities.  They are capable of seeing in pitch black darkness as well.
  • Flight - A manticore's wings aren't just for show, and are fairly durable.
  • Venomous Tail/Razor Claws - Manticores have quite sharp spikes on the end of their tail, which are fully capable of being launched with surprising accuracy and penetration capabilities at a range of 60 yards.  Anything past that gets more difficult to hit, but still doable up to 120 yards.  These spikes can be used in melee combat as well, and are also poisonous, containing a potent paralytic neurotoxin.  Lastly, the spikes can retract if the manticore wills it, usually for its alternate purpose.  (see images in appearance and O/O's below for explanations)  Manticores also have razor sharp claws for things and people that get in their face without being invited.
  • Heightened Strength and Endurance - Manticores are incredibly strong, and are also quite tough and durable.  It is no easy feat to bring one down.
  • Shapeshifting - Much like lycans can, manticores can change their form at will.  It is no difficulty to switch between human and hybrid forms, though a full human manticore loses its wings, tail, claws, and ears until it returns to its true shape.  (when in human form, loses enhanced hearing portion of Heightened Senses, Flight, and Venomous Tail/Razor Claws, but keeps the sight and smell enhancements and the Heightened Strength and Endurance.)  She prefers her manticore form whenever possible, unless she's just in a mood to blow things up.
  • Brawler - Manticores don't usually have a lot of skill with manufactured weapons, but they don't really and truly need it in most circumstances.  They're dangerously good at using what gifts they already have, and even in human form they're able to easily break some bones in a fight due to their brute force.
Notable Equipment: Just because most manticores don't take the time to learn manufactured human weapons doesn't mean that Lauren didn't.  She can see the wisdom in having the knowledge of how to use such weapons if either the situation properly calls for it or her true form isn't available for use, due to one reason or another.  That, plus she likes seeing things go boom.  All weapons are made with her human form in mind, as if she's in manticore form she will opt to use her natural killer instincts and capabilities instead.

  • Twin Beretta 9mm guns
  • Customized Dragunov Sniper Rifle
  • RPG Launcher (for when the mission calls for heavy duty weaponry....or in case Lauren decides something just needs to explode)
  • Varying amounts of C4 or other explosives (brought along and used as needed or desired)
Role: Weapons Specialist
Recruitment Status: Recruited
Employment History: Lauren was found and recruited not long after bringing down a group of thugs on her own in the process of protecting a client.  No one involved was quite able to understand how she had survived six bullets to the torso, but the company found her through the resulting media coverage on the miracle woman.  Once it was clear that she was a manticore, it became more obvious that it would take more than six bullets to bring her down for good.
Appearance:
Manticore Appearances
These aren't so real life as the portrait images I will be using, but they give some ideas as to how the manticore form looks.  First one is how she looks herself (more or less), while the others are for demonstration purposes concerning the O/O's. (see below)  Additionally, she had six bullet scars in her chest and stomach, along with a few other combat based injuries here and there.

Sexuality: Straight, preferably looking for romance as opposed to casual sex.  Or if nothing else, at least an acceptable life partner
On/Off: My O/Os.  In addition, female manticores do tend to enjoy using their tail on men, which can open up (see extra pictures above) and close around exposed erections (also see above) so as to pleasure their partner in a bit of a different manner than they might be used to.  A manticore's body will adapt to their partner's size and shape, with the adjustment being quicker the more often such a coupling occurs.  Eventually, once the manticore's body fully adapts to match their partner's body, vaginal sex will be beyond mind blowingly amazing.  After having sex in such a manner, the manticore will view herself as mated for life with that partner.  Vaginal sex prior to the manticore's body being fully adapted is highly unlikely, and it's extremely unwise to try and force oneself on a manticore.
Personality: Lauren is a bit of a firecracker with a short fuse, with two possibilities of what might happen if she's mad at you.  Either she'll throw envenomed words at you and storm off without fully realizing what she said until later, or you'll be seeing stars with little to no warning beforehand.  It all just depends on whether she likes you or not.  She's rather snarky and occasionally sarcastic as well, but overall isn't a bad person.  She just doesn't have a lot of impulse control when it comes to anger.  Making things explode tends to help her feel better, as does classic rock music.  Even better, exploding things while such music is playing.  Deep down she does have a bit of a soft spot for romantic things, but it's not something she openly advertises.
Background: Lauren was a bit of an odd manticore, even from childhood.  Her fascination with the human race led her to spend just as much time with them as her own kind.  She wound up learning the best of both worlds, and found that she not only had a knack for science, but thoroughly enjoyed it...especially chemistry.  Explosions and fire were things that fascinated her, and she began working towards learning as much about those as she could.  She eventually wound up working as a surprisingly adept bouncer for a high end club, though she quickly went into the private bodyguard business.

She got to learn about all sorts of human weaponry from this point, which was exciting for her.  She quickly became one of the most versatile manticores in the world, simply because she knew not only how to use her own race's strengths, but she learned some human ingenuity on top of it.  She took to the weapons training like a fish takes to water, and was shown to be unusually good with human weaponry for a manticore.  The best part of it, in her mind, was it allowed her to occasionally kick ass without revealing her real form to the human world.  The training wound up serving her well, as apparently she became relatively successful at her work.

Of course, her job took a bit of a turnaround after the incident with thugs attacking her employer.  She managed to keep him alive, but circumstances weren't so favorable and she wound up getting more hurt than normal.  It was hardly enough to kill one of her kind, but it had been injuries that a human was quite unlikely to survive.  It wasn't long after she got out of the hospital, leaving several medical field workers puzzled, that she was approached by an organization for people like her...a place where she could perhaps be herself just as often as she used the things she learned for use in the human world.  She jumped at the opportunity, longing to be able to stretch her wings a bit more often than she had been able to thus far.
Merits:

  • Weapon Proficiency - If it fires a bullet, causes explosions, or creates fire, Lauren probably knows how to use it.  Just don't ask her to disarm a bomb, she's more likely to detonate it from a distance than keep it from exploding.
  • Loyal - Anyone who's earned her trust will have Lauren completely on their side.  And she is a force to be reckoned with, indeed...but also importantly, she'll actually listen to you.
  • Toxin Resistant - Lauren has a high resistance to toxic substances, from straight up poison to alcohol.  She isn't completely immune to such substances entirely, save for the case of her own venom.  This applies to medications as well, and can be a drawback if she needs things like painkillers.
Shortcomings:

  • Mind of her Own - Unless it's someone who's earned her respect, Lauren doesn't do well with taking orders from other people.  Being paid to listen can typically help convince her to listen, if grudgingly.
  • Seeing Red - Lauren tends to go kinda sorta crazy if she gets frustrated and/or angry enough.  She won't have any patience in such instances, opting to take the 'shoot first and ask questions later' method, or else using her real form's destructive capabilities if applicable.  Expect nasty words and phrases to be flung around as well.
  • Prideful - One of the fastest ways to get on Lauren's bad side is to step on her ego.  Insult her at your own risk!
Hobbies: Making things explode or catch on fire, karaoke, most any physical activities (but especially ones that involve fighting), going to theaters (movie or performance), reading (especially action and/or romance novels), 70's and 80's music

Thera Acheron - Mothman WIP
Name: Thera Acheron
Age: 413
Sex: Female, when appearing human
Race: Cryptid
Type: Mothman
Origin: Mothman, specifically influenced by the movie (The Mothman Prophecies) and some general monster talk I've picked up along the way, but with my own flair.
Notable Abilities/Skills:

  • Telepathy/Pre-cog: Telepathic ability usable on humans (possibly more human type monsters as well), mainly through a more direct link, after touching them, while able to see them, or if they are thinking about her. This ability allows her to gather information with no communication barriers due to language or whatever obstruction, however extended connection does tend to drive humans insane. Telepathic ability is exceptionally strong with members of her own species, allowing them to tap into an almost group consciousness, though it requires her to be in a semi-meditative state (not in battle). I know the pre-cog is a slippery slope, but it would be more only events of very large proportion and/or high death count (in keeping with what's become common lore about these things, I leave it to the GM's discretion).
  • Wings: Cannot be retracted into the body, only folded close to the body and are hidden under layers of long, loose fitting clothing. (Coats, scarves, veils, etc...) Mothman wings are quite strong, and almost tireless.
  • Minor shapeshifting: Can change herself to be more human looking though not quite perfectly; it is uncomfortable and she still requires the veils, both out of personal preference and to disguise the minor flaws in her human appearance. She can simply be as she is naturally or her human shape, which cannot change, though it is slowly getting more life like the more often she uses it. (The time range on this is so slow it's not really going to be noticeable in the story.)
Notable Equipment: Thera has collected her share of junk over the years, rather like a magpie.

  • Colt 1911: Thera picked this off a fallen soldier after the Battle of Amiens, mostly because it is pretty and has an interesting texture. While a she is a decent but unremarkable shot and is not likely to utilize it as a weapon. Eye Candy

Role: Open, but leaning toward intel gathering (interrogation?) or something of that nature.
Recruitment Status: Recruited
Employment History: She has traveled the world and become rather gluttonous as the world seemed to only be getting more and more rife with death energy. Despite being to young to have her kenning, she is extremely active. Thera's presence at a string of places the Company had taken interest in brought her to their attention. Of course as they were noticing her, she was also noticing them. They danced around each other until she became intrigued enough to actually meet. Seeing as she would be doing basically the same thing anyway, she agreed to join the company. While the concept of employment and money are strange to her, she has grown to enjoy accumulating the things that money can buy.

Appearance: Tall, six feet, with grey skin, light dusting of dark grey/black fur and deep red eyes. Head is wide, the eyes are large, wide set and very reflective, with wings. Not quite bird like, bat like, or even moth like; the wings are not quite anything seen in nature and span close to twenty feet when fully spread. (If you're familiar with the traditional mothman imagery, I'm going for a more humanized version. Reference) When appearing human she has pale skin with a slight ashen/grey undertone, dark grey hair and red eyes, her features are passable but ever so slightly off (eyes slightly too big, etc...), but the veil helps disguise this. People assume her strange manner of dress and behavior is due to her being eccentric.
Sexuality: Asexual
On/Off: O_O
Personality: Observant and withdrawn (but not at all cold), somewhat disconnected from events happening around her, which is not to say she doesn't take interest in them. On the contrary she is an avid spectator and is keenly interested in the world around her. Her emotions seem to be pale, washed out echoes or mimicry of what she has observed. She is almost always calm, slightly amused, with a tendency to find a strange beauty in almost any situation. She isn't a loner, but people do tend to give her space due to her tendency to talk to herself and overall "vibe". To most she comes across as harmlessly eccentric, but not amusing enough to hand around.

Background: Thera is fairly average for a mothman, though more "hands on" by their standards. She finds beauty in the commensal symbiotic relationship her species shares with humans, and in the great array and depth of suffering humans are capable of, viewing them more as a beautiful garden than as cattle. Unseen she has watched over the last 400 years, walking among people but always separate from them. She has seen wars, epidemics, massacres, and it never ceases to astound her that humans are inevitably their own greatest enemy. Despite her active nature she has managed to not get into too much trouble over the years. Maybe a tabloid printed a picture of her, once, but that was a long time ago and humans think all mothmen look alike.

General Mothman Stuffs
Mothman is the common name for a cryptid species that is older than humanity. They are quite adept at remaining outside of notice and preternaturally gifted. Even though they spend quite a bit of time rubbing shoulders with humanity they only tend to be noticed when it is time for them to reproduce as they become much more active. (Going to resist making moths to a flame comparison. ;) ) Feeding off the large amounts of energy released in tragic events that cause many deaths, the creatures are drawn to but never go out of their way to cause these events. Day to day they can live off very small amounts of energy but as it grows closer to time for them to ken their single egg (500-700 years old) they begin to become more noticeable/aggressive in their pursuit of this energy. Once enough energy has been gathered for the egg, the creature returns to the nesting area, claws the egg from its chest and then leaves again. The eggs hatch on their own, faster or slower depending on how much energy it has to feed on.

Merits:

  • Observant: Not much escapes her very large eyes, or any of her senses really.
  • Manipulative: Used to influencing things from afar to observe the results Thera has become quite adept at manipulating situations over the years.
  • Presence: Despite her height, when in her human form she comes across rather safe and docile, conversely in monster form most humans consider her frightening and oppressive in presence.
  • Steady as she goes: Thera has never been seen to lose her temper, ever. She is very even and unbiased, making her great in situations where others lose their heads.
  • The only way to be sure: Mothmen are notoriously hard to kill, at least by average human standards. While more likely to make a quick disappearance, they are quite durable.
Shortcomings:

  • Distractable: Love of observing things, can cause Thera to lose her train of thought, becoming engrossed in random things.
  • Priorities or lack there of: Thera doesn't really see things in terms of failure/success, events will still be taking place and as long as she is able to observe them she doesn't see what the problem is.
  • Spectator: Thera is a manipulator not a fighter, which is not to say she isn't capable, but she is most likely to sit things out or assist from the side lines unless it starts to look really dicey.
  • Light Weight Champ: Even though strong, Thera is quite light for her size and simply doesn't have the mass to soak up heavy blows. Normal humans wouldn't be a problem but, getting hit by a car or a super strong monster would send her flying.
  • Manipulative: Its a bad habit and it doesn't turn off, even when it should.

Hobbies: Observing things, comparing things, tactile exploration (she likes to touch things, don't be surprised if she is rubbing her face against a pillow or touching your shirt).

Brighter news... I've fallen for Lauren already ;)

daedalus02

    Name: Kamal El Hashel
    Age: 230 - born 8 november 1783
    Sex: Male
    Race: Youkai
    Type: Kamaitachi
    Origin: Oriental Mythology
    Notable Abilities/Skills:

    • Slice and dice: Kamaitachi are famous for being creatures that can easily cut through almost anything. The original legend saw them cutting the legs of their opponents, slicing their opponents skin off their bodies and healing them back before they could even realize something happened to them. The members of this type of youkai group canfreely extend their nails up to forty centimeters using them as blades. The aforementioned blades are extremely durable and sharp, so they can cut through basically anything, even the hardest steel can be cut down really fast.
    • Inconspicuous presence: kamaitachi are essentially made of air, as such they do almost no noise when they move and tend not to be noticed even when they are in plain view.. unless they want to of course. This makes them exceptional assassins and infiltrators.
    • Heightened speed: Have you ever tried to hit the wind? That's similar to hitting a kamaitachi; their bodies are very fast, agile and gifted with extremely fast reflexes to cope with their superhuman speed. This allows them to even stop bullets with their blades if needed, to reach faraway enemies in a matter of seconds and to react crazily fast to threats.

    Notable Equipment:

    • 1x Sig Sauer P226 - with silencer
    • 1x AK47
    • 2x wakizashi (approx 40cm blade)
    • Kamaitachi ointment: This is a particular ointment that can heal any (even fatal) wounds instantly. Kamal has enough to fully heal someone once. More could be crafted if enough of the expensive materials that are part of it are given him. The exact recipe is a secret of the kamaitachi tribe.
Role: Weapon/Fight expert but can easily act up as assassin/stealth operator.
Recruitment Status: Yet to be recruited.
Employment History: While not yet recruited Kamal is pretty (in)famous in the warring/assassin world. During his life he took part in most wars and, after the last big conflict, he switched to the role of a justicer. He basically goes and stealthily eliminates whomever he marks as <evil>.
Appearance: A big scar runs on his back from his right shoulder all the way to his leg. If asked about it he will simply ignore the question.
Sexuality: Heterosexual - he is looking for long term relationship but he is not doing so actively. A kamaitachi committing to someone can only be for life.
    On/Off: O/Os
Personality: Kamal is usually cold headed. He likes to plan in advance and move when there are enough data to minimize risk and losses. He has seen an above average amounts of deaths around him and seems always a bit sad. The kamaitachi is also quite hard headed, if he has decided on something making him change his ideas is gonna be a huge task. He is pretty open minded and enjoys discovering new things. On average he doesn't trust other people easily and prefers to act alone rather than to risk a mess for someone else poor performance, yet he is the first one to run and help if something like that happens (he doesn't want to lose any more companions).
Background: Kamal was born in the ottoman Empire the 8th November 1783. Young kamaitachis usually travel and work in group of threes. With his brother and sister he was involved in the Serbian uprising, the kamaitachi girl lost her life during the conflict while the brother disappeared without leaving behind any trace. Left alone grieving for his loss Kamal started training in all sort of martial arts and weapon usage. While he traveled the world he also took part in many conflicts. In all of those he distinguished himself as an above average killer.
His most prominent achievements were obtained during world war I, II and Vietnam war. During the first war he was pretty much just shooting and learning how to use firearms properly, his self training up to that point consisted mostly of melee weapons and hand to hand combat. While his shooting ability was yet to bloom his group was the only one that survived throughout all the war without any major injury, almost like if they knew where and when projectiles would come.
At the beginning of the second world war he was residing in the USA, he enlisted for the army immediately as soon as the war began. He was on the first wave that landed on the shores during the D-day. Many people fell all around him, yet he managed to be the first to reach the nazi outpost, he was the first to get in, the first to kill quickly and mercilessly any enemy that was so unlucky to cross his path. Many didn't even notice him and simply declared "They were falling down all around like being reaped by the wind".
Kamal's biggest challenge was the Vietnam's war. As a soldier there he was tasked to eliminate any kind of resistance that were to approach the field base of his group. After some time he was at work, Vietcong started to avoid the part of the forest where he resided affirming evil spirits of death would cut your skin away if you dared to go near. Once again his group came out almost unscathed from the battle.
Returned home from the turmoil he settled down and took over the facade of a businessman with a apparently normal life style. The truth is that he works as an assassin for hire, strictly selecting his victims from the requests he receives. Only <bad> guys meet their doom through his hands. He abides a strict code of protecting innocents and eliminating criminals.

    Merits:

    • Martial arts expert: Kamal is well versed in Karate, Jujitsu, Command Sambo, Kung Fu, Muai Thai and a bunch of other martial arts. He is a Master on all of these, combined with his reflexes and speed this makes him an awesome hand to hand/melee weapons  killing machine.
    • Weapon expert: While he fought in the various wars during his life he took up the skills needed to handle most firearms. He is not excessively well verse with explosives and bombs in general, just a rough idea on how they work.
    • Strategist: The experience the kamaitachi gained on the battlefields all around the world grant him a pretty good insight on tactics, way of combat, how to best use terrains and any kind of advantages that can come out to gain the edge in a battle.
    Shortcomings:

    • Hard Headed: if he has decided something must/must not be done in a certain way it will be hell to make him change his mind. His insight is usually right (thanks to his big chunk off real fighting experience), yet if he is not it will require quite a big push to move him from his official position.
    • Claustrophobic: Kamaitachi in general are being originated from the wind, they feel more at ease in wide open spaces than in secluded locations. This doesn't mean he can't stay in a room just that he feels way better outside. If the seclusion is in a very small place he would get uncomfortable and angry really quick possibly going completely out of control.
    • Risk Taker: While being a cautious planner once he has decided on a set of actions that would bring minimal losses he will throw himself in the middle of it, taking up always the most dangerous role in order to grant others the best chances of survival. This means he often dares a bit more than what he should and tends to end up wounded. Secretly he probably likes the thrill risking gives him.
Hobbies: Martial arts (he is kinda of a freak in terms of his own training regimen), listening to music (mostly metal and rock) and playing it (he can play a guitar) and reading (mostly adventure and fantasy books). Lately he also took up gaming and is quickly running through most videogames for PC or consoles.

Hello Roen, Caela and other applicants,

I have been on E for more than a year now and in that time have tried 3 – 4 group games that never made it much past the opening. This one has a lot of interest for me, and I would like to apply (consider this a placeholder) but have concerns. If I dedicate the time and energy to the creation process, will there be a future for that persona? Any reassurance you can give would help here.

I looked at the line-up of applicants so far and came up with this:

    • M Wind Assassin
    • M Changling
    • M Spirit (Yokai) Half-Kitsune
    • M Human (possessed) death-spirit
    • M Immortal Human
    • F Chimera Manticore
    • F Human secretary
    • F Mothman

I'm looking at making a female Mimic OR a female basilisk. I'm really quite torn on the type I want to go with, since they're both so distinctly different from each other. A mimic would be huge fun just becuase she'd be able to imitate anyone... male or female... but a basilisk would be totally badass. Both have equal opportunities attached to them for a fun recruitment job for others, though would present distinctly different challenges. Hrmmm...

Well, as Caehlim said, plenty of various sexual orientation to balance the scales of this "sausage party".
Besides that, each mission might include NPCs available for interactions, and Caela still hasn't rejected the idea of creating additional GM NPCs of her own. Whatever lacking, we will be providing.

That said, the recruitment is still very much open, and the approval process hasn't fully commenced yet, so I wouldn't take that lineup as a sure thing.

It is extremely fun, reading up on everybody's ideas, and I'd let you know that we will start approaching you about your characters during the coming weekend. Your patience is appreciated.

Keep in mind that if your characters are marked "Yet to be recruited", it might take some time before they get into the thick of things. We'd also be contacting you to discuss the recruitment plots. The plots are ours to conceive, but it would help if you'd have some ideas of your own, about where your characters are when we get to them and what obstacles might stand in the way of the recruitment.

Wander, we'll see your list of shortcomings and merits, and if need be- we'll discuss it in PM.

The goal is to have this thing up and running on the 31st of October. Though it is slowly turning into a beast of a game... So very appropriate!

Well, I'm still working out the details on mine. The background is the tricky part.

Name: Latet (LAY-teht), Latet the Lewd
    Age: 22
    Sex: Male
    Phylum: Chordata
    Order:  Squamata
    Family: Chamaeleonidae
    Type: Biped Humanoid-Chameleon crossbreed
Origin: This is a take-off on The Invisible Man, a 1933 film by H.G. Wells.
    Notable Abilities/Skills:

    • Blend: All of his species (are there others?) are able to perfectly blend into any surrounding at will. It takes a full minute to do so, but once complete they can easily and instantly shift as they move as long as they are not running.
    • Regeneration: When injured, Latet heals many times faster than Humans do and can even grow back amputated extremities.
Notable Equipment: None. Latet uses his own body for both protection and attacking if needed.

Role: Latet is a master of subterfuge and stealth. His skills are best used for covert operations be it espionage or assignation.

Recruitment Status: Recruited – Perhaps a couple years ago?

Employment History: Before the Company found him – there was irony for you – Latet had been strictly independent. He had some peculiarities that were best done alone and that was how he liked to work. He would find an odd job here or there for mostly large corporations who wanted information or to eliminate the competition and were not picky how that happened.

Appearance: Mostly Humanoid in form in that Latet has one head, two arms and two legs. He also (as most Lizards do) has a tail that is about 5’ long. Latet himself is just over 6’ tall and when choosing to be opaque has a light green tone. His eyes are bright red and the last thing to disappear when he ‘blends’. Latet also has a long, forked lizard-like tongue and his claws (hands and feet) are retractable, much like a feline.

Sexuality: Heterosexual and Dominant. Chordata do not mate for life but are severely jealous of whoever they are mated with at the time.

    On/Off: Link Here

Personality: Strong and fearless with an ego to match. Latent is highly confident and that can – and has – put him in over his head at times. He would never refuse a job and always thought he could complete every single one. Failure was never an option, but it was a fact and not a few times he was unsuccessful. How he thought of himself did not always match reality and sooner or later that would likely be his demise.

Background: Latet was born in the barest sense of the word inside a laboratory and named EX2007. He was the first fully successful hybrid of Human-Reptile DNA binding. While he was never told as much, he always believed that it was a governments doing to create a soldier for war. That was fine with him, and he hoped they succeeded. Once there was enough of his kind, they would take over these stupid humans. Perhaps it had been a mistake to use the frozen DNA of Einstein to supplement his intelligence genes and Ted Bundy for his vicious nature?

Acting as the model experiment for years to build trust, when he was 19 he simply walked away and never returned. Thus began his calling if you will; the desire to destroy humans and to reproduce. His sex drive was very high and Latet would never miss an opportunity to mate with a female; human or reptile. He could care less if she was willing or not. His libido was not just over the top but also warped. He enjoyed what the Humans called Kinky far too much. Oral sex, anal sex, bondage and pain were all his friends and not a few women had succumbed to his unique charms.

    Merits:

    • Smell: Like most Lizard’s, Latet uses its long tongue to smell the air around him. He can detect a creatures race and gender from some distance away.
    • Strength: Latet is pound for pound four times stronger than the normal human his size. That same muscle mass gives him a good deal of protection as well.
    • Gilled: Having Gills allows Latet to breath in air or water just as easily.

    Shortcomings:

    • Webless: Without any of the lizard-like suction pads on his hands and feet, Latet cannot just climb up a wall or walk across a ceiling. He must travel like a human.
    • Amphibious: A creature in-between land and sea, Latet must spend at least one hour for every 24 submerged in water. Failure to do so will cause his scaled skin to dry, crack and fall off. This can lead to death in a very short time.
    • Mass: due to his high muscle density, Latet weighs more than it seems. He is well over 400 pounds and not a bit delicate. Even when hidden, some surfaces would make a sound under his weight. He also does not slip well into tight spaces.

Hobbies: Latet has only one; sex. He is driven to reproduce and will impregnate any females that he can.

If we're planning to play a shape shifter type who can appear as anyone at any type, are we required to put down a pic in the sheet?

If s/he has a favorite shape, a pic of that shape would be nice.  Or maybe a couple different ones of faces known to the Company.

    #93
Finally got my sheet finished! This is the version with the classified bits removed. I sent Caela and Roen the full version. ^.^

    Name: Caelan (Kay-lahn) “Cae” O’Fallan
    Age: *Classified*
Sex: Unknown - Can appear as male, female, and trans.
    Race: Changeling
    Type: Mimic/Shapeshifter
    Origin: Inspired by various mythologies
    Notable Abilities/Skills:
    • Actor – A natural skill for a shape shifter, acting is second nature to Cae. The ability to mimic accents, adapt to regional slang, etc are included in this.
    • Identity Thief – Finding and adapting someone’s identity takes more than just the ability to look like them. Cae is able to forge various types of documentation and identification with relative ease, though prefers to simply order new copies while in the guise of the victim.
    • Con Artist – Early on, Cae realized that the most profitable way to make money was to con others out of their money. Sometimes it is by posing as a wealthy or renowned person to get access to information and things otherwise out of reach. Sometimes it is for elaborate schemes, theft, etc.
    • Shapeshifting – Cae was born a shapeshifter, and as such can take the form of any person (male or female) and imitate them perfectly, right down to their voice, fingerprints, and DNA.
    • Mixed Martial Arts – Cae has studied various forms of martial arts and though not a master of any, is quite adept at mixing them and switching from one to the other without issue.
    • Multi-lingual:
      • Fluent – Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic, French, Spanish, Japanese, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian, Chinese
      • Conversational – Mandarin, Standard Chinese, Arabic, Farsi, Yiddish (don't ask)
    • Immortal – It is quite possible to kill Cae, usually through any method that is fatal to the average human, Cae will never die of old age or “natural causes” and seems immune to most illnesses. This makes it impossible to know Cae’s age for sure.
    Notable Equipment:
    • Forgery Kit – Those forged IDs and documents have to come from somewhere.
    • Multiple Aliases – A natural consequence of Cae’s lifestyle is the need to be able to pick up and disappear at a moment’s notice. As such, there are several dormant aliases around the world waiting for the day Cae needs to become someone else.
    • Several Bank Accounts – Hand in hand with having multiple aliases, Cae has several fairly wealthy bank accounts around the world collecting interest and waiting for the day they are needed.
    • Small Handgun – Cae rarely carries more than a small handgun at any time unless absolutely needed. These are usually small 9mm Smith and Wesson or Rugers, and due to the difficulty in carrying one through customs, Cae owns several hidden in various safes and safe houses around the world.
Role: Con Artist, Acquisitions Specialist (pretty much anything that might need someone to commit clandestine acts in plain sight).
Recruitment Status: Yet to be recruited. (am open to already being with the company or brought in at the very beginning if you don’t want to do a plot for Cae’s recruitment)
Employment History: N/A – Cae has been hired now and then by others for everything from posing as important government officials to further someone’s interests, to making large withdrawls from bank accounts as the account holder, but largely works alone and doesn’t make the client list known.
Appearance: Cae has the ability to appear as any one at any time.
Sexuality: Cae seems to be pansexual.
On/Off: O/Os (Willing to play almost any sexual pairing, though mxm scenes would have to fade to black for now)
Personality: Cae is something of a mixed bag when it comes to personality, likely due to spending hundreds of years as many different people and needing to adapt to each person imitated. Though playful and mostly good natured, Cae is prone to dark, moody spells. It is often difficult to tell where Cae’s loyalties are, as one day Cae can seem to be your best friend and the next can abandon you to die without so much as batting an eye lash.
    Background:
It is unknown what year Cae was born, or even specifically where. In fact, very little is known about Cae’s true origins, though there are various histories and dossiers written on the various personas Cae has adapted over the years. It is also known that every single one of those dossiers is subject to speculation, as there is no guarantee that Cae was actually any of those people at any time.
    Merits:
    • Adaptive – Cae adapts to nearly every situation smoothly, able to shift personality, form, speech, and nature to suit the best chance of survival.
    • Renaissance Man/Woman – A jack of all trades and a master of all trades, master of none, Cae has many years of history and during that time has learned the basics of so many skills it seems as if there’s nothing those hands and mind haven’t become familiar with.
    Shortcomings:
    • Untrusting – Sometimes it pays to put your trust in people and not be paranoid. Unfortunately, trusting comes extremely slowly and with great difficulty to Cae.
    • Unstable – Though not at all outwardly obvious to most, Cae is to some extent unstable, having a hard time keeping all the histories and personality in their head straight. This is most apparent during times of great emotional turmoil and stress, though thankfully most situations others see as stressful, Cae does not (like walking in to a bank and posing as a multi billionaire to take out a big withdrawl).
Hobbies: Martial Arts, dancing, art, reading, gardening, video games
Face Claim: Currently Listed: Hugh Dancy, Deborah Ann Woll, Alan Cumming, Cristina Ricci, Tilda Swinton, Paul Bettany

So, Roen and I are working our way through the submitted character sheets (most of you will have already, or will soon, get PM's) and have noticed we have quite the collection of intelligence gathering folks! There are a variety of skills, abilities, and methods represented in that intelligence gathering but, for now, we are cutting off any more recruitment in that particular area.

There is still plenty of room for technical experts, weapons specialists, soldiers, medical support, etc however, but our intel needs have been met for now. :)

    Lux12

    Name:Takumi Saito
    Age:26
    Sex:Male, Cisgendered
    Race: Monsterous Humanoid
    Type:Haratorihito
Origin:(loosely based on the Jorogumo and Tsuchigumo from Japanese Lore)
Notable Abilities/Skills: *Make sure to list them all*

Fashion Design: It's what he went to college for. It's what he lives for. There's very little he can't do. However, he specializes in men and womens wear and occasionally dips into designing fetish gear.

Weaving and sewing: Not much needs to be said about this other than he's good at it and his ability to manipulate string makes him an undisputed master.

Dancing: He's a trained contemporary dancer. He's quite good at it and he incorporates some of the movements with the use of his "razor floss" technique.

Knowledges: Takumi possesses extensive knowledge of history, the occult(mostly eastern traditions, but he has a working understanding of western forms) , art (in particular rococo, baroque, and Japanese), and fashion. In addition to this, he has insider knowledge of weaver folk culture as he is one of them.

Freerunning: Many might not think it but he knows how to navigate an urban environment or any similar location on foot. Complimented by his powers, there are few strategic possitiosn he can't reach

    Haratorihito powers :
    Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Wall climbing- He can climb up walls in a way akin to a spider.

String manipulation- If something is in the form of a fiber meant for weaving, he can manipulate it's every quality and even how it moves. He can make it sharp, hard to break, increase the length, or any number of things. His favorite manifestations are the ever iconic razor floss form, woven shield, and simple binding string. In combat, this is arguably his most deadly skill. It also allows him to weave cloth armor tougher than kevlar or even certain metals.

venom: Either through a bite or spitting a terrible miasmal spray, he can poison his foes. This poison behaves as a supernatural neurotoxin and those exposed often begin experiencing terrible cramps, muscle spasms, and swelling in their extremities. Those effected begin feeling restless and experience panic attacks. Their breathing becomes labored and have trouble speaking. Delerium soon sets in. Generally speaking, the venom will work it's way out of the body over a period of 48-96 hours depending on the size of the dosage assuming they survive.

Resistance: Like all spider folk he as a huge resistance to poison. He's also hyper resistant to blood born pathogens.

Spider form: He can assume a humanoid spider form which increases his aptitude for climbing walls and boosts his already incredible agility. Like all male weaver folk, his skin turns an unearthly grey as opposed to the deep black shade that females assume. Two mandibles protrude from the side of his face while his mouth remains intact. His incisors become sharp fangs. A group of eight appendages resembling spiders legs protrude from his back. Takumi's eyes turn jet black and two copies appear above his eyebrows. His palm and fingers elongate and the very tips end in sharp points. Toward the bottom of his back is a light red marking in the shape of an hour class as opposed to a female's deep blood red.

Agility: Given his heritage, he is extraordinarily nimble and quick on his feet. He can walk a tight rope with little effort.

Accelerated healing: Like many supernaturals, he heals at a rather high rate when injured. However enough damage done quickly enough can kill him especially if he's struck at vital points.

Illusions: While he cannot make them solid, he can generate very convincing visual and audio illusions to perplex his enemies.

Magic outfit weaving- With the help of occult ritual, he has the power to weave outfits with various magical powers. The process is taxing but he can access the specific abilities associated with the outfit simply by wearing it. These powers can range from physical trait enhancement to manipulation of natural forces.

    Notable Equipment:

Threads: Aside from his usual stock of sewing threads, he as two groups of threads attached to single points which are his main weapon. His string manipulation ability allows him to turn them into extremely long strings into razor sharp killing tools.

Magic outfits: He has a a total of six magic outfits with different powers.

Knife collection: While most are there for decorative purposes, he does have a couple fighting knives for when he as to get in close.

Monetary assets: He's not Bill Gates, but let's just say if he retired right now it might be a little while before he had to get a job.
Role: Well being suited to stealth endeavors and intel, it's hard to say given that many of those positions have been filled. Perhaps helps craft certain useful items. Maybe his cultural knowledge or connections to elements of high society could be of use. He has connections to kink communities which could help in some regard. He has connections to his species which makes him something of a liason between them. Open to suggestions here if anyone has any better ideas.

    Recruitment Status: Recruited.

Employment History: He's a fairly recent recruit compared to certain other members of the company. Why a fairly renowned fashion designer would join up with such a group is difficult to fathom, but he has his own motives. Part of it is related to the death of a relative and recent turmoil among his species. Takumi also claims that he wants to keep those supernaturals who cause problems for others and thus give those  like him a bad name.

Appearance: He is of lithe build and has a generally “soft” appearance. His facial features lean on round. He possesses long black hair which is often tied back or teased up. His eyes are dark brown. Takumi is almost always dressed in “effeminate” garb which is often embroidered and carries at least a hint of the gothic. While it's not always immediately obvious, he has a pair of thigh thighs for every outfit he owns and he color coordinates to the very last thread. Some outfits are his own design, others are numbers he purchased. Lace, frills, fetish wear, 18th century elements, and gothic fashion feature heavily in his clothes. Takumi does have a seperate wardrobe which holds suprisingly fabulous but less elaborate pieces which he wears when on a mission. His face is always covered in some form of make up. Both his ears are pierced and his lower lip is pierced twice. It is also worth noting that he frequently crossdresses.

    Sexuality: Heterosexual submissive.

    On/Off:https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=157569.new#new
Takumi is a huge bondage nut. When a woman ties him up, sub-space isn't far behind. He quickly gets lost in ecstasy. In addition to this, he loves kissing and worshipping women with his mouth, though he's strangely not as enthusiastic about oral sex as he is other forms. Takumi does not often say it but he's a bit of a butt nut as well. He's only interested in ciswomen sexually and romantically.

Offs: Bestiality, gore, toilet related things, full on rape

Personality: Passionate, generous, effeminate, clever, patient, obsessive, vain, and prone to melancholy. All of these words desribe Takumi. He throws himself into all tasks with deep fervor and it's reflected in his work ethic. As one might expect, a great measure of patience comes with it. An obsessive perfectionist by nature, he seldoms move on from a task until he has done it right in his eyes. While never one to be an egotistical prick, he is vain and is some times a bit too obsessed with looking fabulous. However, he is also extremely giving and is more than willing to donate his time and money to helping those in need. He figures that if one is going to make money off of helping the better off elements of society look marvelous, one should use it to help those in need.
    Background:
    Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Takumi is a fairly successful designer and model. At first glance, he appears to be a stereotypical campy, effeminate designer, but the truth is quite different. For you see, he doesn't design trendy lines. Takumi takes issue with some of the more questionable aspects of the industry and is more interested in the art aspect of his craft. He mostly deals in custom orders ranging from the very pricey to the outright affordable. He charges the client based on their income though he doesn't disclose this. In other words, the wealthier you are, the more you have to pay. Among other designers, he is known for his eccentricity, passion, and generous nature. Among other circles, he is known for something much more unnerving to the average human. You see, Taku inherited part of his skill from his forebearers. He is a weaver partly because the impulse is in his blood. For you see, when he's really letting his hair hang down, he resembles a beast known as a Jorogumo. That said, if asked he would deny it to the day of his death. It's not that he hates himself, his family consider themselves a part of a different species with similar powers. They instead prefer the name Haratorihito. Literally translated, weaver people.

To the uninitiated, his childhood began as any human's would. Born to a loving couple In couple in Okinawa who shortly after moved to the U.S.A. They settled among the Japanese community on the west coast. His early childhood was a charmed life indeed. While as he would come to know, that no life is devoid of pain, his early childhood was pleasant to say the very least. However, even then he knew he was different from the other children. Not simply because others called him effeminate or because he was a first generation American citizen. It wasn't because his family prayed to many Deities rather than one. No, something else stirred within him. When he saw spiders, he could not help but feel that some how, he had a semblance of their being. His suspicions were only furthered by the fact that he had required blood transfusions ever since he was a toddler. It seemed like no matter how much protein he consumed he remained rather slight of build. It all made sense when his parents finally revealed what manner of creatures they were.

Rather than horrified or repulsed, the boy was elated to learn that he was not alone in being what he was. This mirth however would be rather short lived. Even as he became aware of his secret heritage and initiated into the spider Deity cult that his people had maintained in antiquity even as they piously offered prayers to the Deities of humans. However, his parents made it abundantly clear he was to keep it secret. They told him that their people had been called monsters and derided as vicious beasts but possessed awesome powers that allowed them to survive for all centuries. They told him why he received blood transfusions so often. He heard of the youkai referred to as Jorogumo and Tsuchigumo that humans believed them to be, but he did not quite understand the implications yet. At this point, it was a fun secret between loved ones and despite some of the other boys picking on him in these early years, the deep loneliness that he would come to know had not yet set in.

He would get his first taste of that particular melancholy when he was six. At this time, he was still in kindergarten and while few children really paid any attention to him at all except to quiz him about his culture since they heard he was not born in the United States. Takumi and one of his few friends were walking along and all seemed well until a mountain lion wandered into their path. Despite being an urban area, the high concentration of the beasts in the pacific northwest meant at a few would wander into the parks and alleyways from time to time. Not knowing what else to do, Takumi showed the beast his arachnid humanoid form. So startled was the beast that it ran in back the way it came. The child had succeeded in saving a life, but his friend was horrified. Despite having saved his life, he found that his friend was just as terrified of him as he had been of the beast. Takumi tried to explain what had happened, but the other child would hear none of it. For a small and comparatively eccentric child, this was rather devastating.

His parents chastized him for showing his other form to another human who hadn't the slightest bit of sympathy for their species. While kindergartners aren't particularly known for gossip or for passive aggression, something akin to a rumor began to spread soon enough, the other children began to look upon him as something to be feared or disdained in growing numbers. Not even some of the girls who were so pressured by society to have mock tea parties (an acitivity he genuinely enjoyed at that age) or play dress up with him began to see him in this way. The boys became more vicious in their mockery of his more "effeminate" tendencies. So, the remainder of that year was quite lonely. This trend continued all through first, second, and third grade only to take on a tone of racism as he got older.

He took a certain solace in doing what amounted to the grade school version of fashion design. He would often spend his time drawing outfits and playing dress up. He even began to play around in his mothers make up. Now, for many families they may have been shocked by this, but the Haratorihito often take pride in their appearance and presentation and thus, a boy showing such interests was no great shock to his parents. In fact, they hoped he might be a talented weaver or tailor as their kind held these skills in high regard. While he wasn't a great visual artist in the sense of a painter, sculpture, or similar artisan, it became apparent that he had a keen sense of aesthetics. Art class was one of the few places he felt truly at peace in school. It was also discovered that like others of his kind, he was quite surprisingly good at rope climbing and navigating through the jungle gym. As he got older, he would check to see if anyone was looking and then climb up the side of the school onto the roof during recess and look down on the others when he was particularly down. Otherwise, he was as playful as one could expect. He had been even before this. For some of the more unusual children, this made him something of an idol in so far that he was perfectly willing to engage them in whatever games he had in mind.

Yet this did not totally abate the growing sense of loneliness in his heart. His parents tried to help by buying him a dog and to a degree, it did help him. They also tried sending him to the other middle school in town so that he might receive a fresh start. However, it would not be so simple. Not only did similar forms of bullying occur, it got more vicious in some instances. While he did maintain many traditions of Japanese and Ryukyuan culture, he was fairly westernized. Yet this did not stop the other children from making fun of him for the food he some times brought from home, for the religious practices he maintained, for even using some Japanese words every once in a while. It was also around this time that he would begin seeing the word "fag" written on his locker in marker. Someone once replaced his gym clothes with assorted women's garments. This, he handled with a sense of humor by stating that they weren't his color and chastizing the tastes of those who picked them out.

High school was mildly less agonizing. Here, he had a group of people who at least tolerated his existence. Most of them were gay kids who assumed he would at least be friendly, others were those interested in getting involved in a fashion design program, a few were anime and manga fans who wanted to be friends with someone who was actually Japanese, and still more were goths and rivetheads. By now, the deep sense of melancholy that flows beneath his surface had set in, but life was not done sending trouble his way. While his circle of friends began to truly expand again, others still made their disdain known.

Yet at the same time, he became known for hosting surprisingly posh get togethers for interested students. These little parties were euphemistically known as "tea". These affairs were a bit more debauched than the quaint name they were given, but they weren't quite as messy as the house parties other students who favored booze would occasionally throw. He also developed a reputation for giving make up tips to whoever would listen and providing the occasional custom garment to other students for a fee.

This was also a time of sexual awakening for him and as the story so often goes, he discovered some of his desires with the help of the internet. More specifically, he discovered femdom and the spider boy was hooked. Takumi found himself excited by the very thought of bondage and would often tie himself up from time to time to get some semblance of the real deal. He would try to convince his second girlfriend to treat him in such a way but it ended in awkward, painful silence. Even as he politely begged her she showed discomfort and she left in a rush. This rejection only further cemented the growing sense of loneliness in him. While she agreed not to tell anyone about his desires, she said that they were two very different beings sexually and so, she broke it off.

Another key event in his life was an attempted sexual assault where a male student said that "If he insisted on acting like a woman, he would be treated like one." However, his parents had trained him in the deadlier elements of weaver folk powers. He made the mistake of making the attempt in a room filled with thread and string used for arts and crafts. Takumi was able to make a noose out of them to choke his assailant into a state of weakness. After that, he made his first offensive use of the razor floss technique by cutting the man in several agonizing but non-lethal ways. The assailant was never the same after this encounter. Takumi escaped without being so much as molested, but this was a moment that scarred him quite deeply.

It seemed that toward the end of his high school career everything would go swimmingly until he learned that an uncle of his who had moved to the states had been killed in a rather brutal fashion. This was made worse by the fact that it came on the heels of his dog's death from complications related to cancer. Never had his lonlieness been so visceral, so overbearing. It was not long after this that he learned that the death of his uncle was spillover from the very incident that prompted his parents to leave Japan for the U.S. As it turned out, the economic troubles toward the end of the eighties in Japan had led to turmoil between factions of the Haratorihito and human connections. Their family had the misfortune of being involved with one such scandal. Though his parents did not elaborate on what it meant for him or what exactly this feud was about, it left a burning curiosity and haunting sense of anxiety in his mind.

This event was followed by a startling lack of further attempts on the lives of his family. He wasn't sure which he found more disturbing. The fact that one of his own blood had been murdered or that those who targeted him didn't seem to care about anyone else.

After graduation he went to college and like many students he found himself concerned with his studies, working, and partying. In his case, that meant the start of his other career as a fetish model. It paid the bills and it gave him a somewhat artistic outlet for his sexual inclinations. Takumi loved it so much that he continued modeling long after he graduated. It also helped keep him afloat financially while he worked on his career in fashion design. This business began as an online venture where people would give him specifications for what they wanted and he would give them his vision of it in physical form. It was slow at first, but soon, an increasingly prestigious and prominent people began putting in orders, and before long, had become a respected designer in his own right with  rather sizable amount in his accounts.

Yet, the thought of what happened to his departed uncle would not leave him, nor would the sense of isolation that had haunted him for much of his life. When approached by the company for his particular talents, he took the offer. He wasn't sure if he would get the answers he wanted out of his work with them, but he figured that he could stop more instances of the same intrigue from getting too far. If nothing else he could preserve some semblance of a good name for for the various supernatural groups out there.

    Merits:

Generous: He's a kind and giving sort who has a very deep sense of fairness when dealing with the economically disadvantaged. He's not one to turn down a cry for help if he knows he can be of service in some way.

Passionate: He pursues every endeavor with a deep zest for life and he makes sure he does every job well.

Patient: He's not only diligent, he's rather patient. It's one of many merits his species has universally. Even the more hotblooded ones can lie in wait for days when stalking a target.

Agility: Being a spider person, he is extremely nimble and sure footed. He can jog across a tight rope in seconds and without swaying.

Clever: His kind pride themselves on being great tricksters and he displays a deep sense of cunning and intelligence when the opportunity presents itself.

Finances: His continuing endeavors as a designer and fetish model  have earned him a rather sizeable sum. He's not anywhere near as wildly rich as others in the company, but his wallet is rather fat.

Stealthy: Despite his outgoing, playful nature, he's surprisingly stealthy. This is a perk that comes with being one of his species.

Shortcomings: *Your character's weaknesses. You need to have at least 2, and it should match the number of your character's Merits.*

Animal Product Dependency: Like all Haratorihito, he needs to consume the blood, flesh, or sex fluids of another animal whether it's human or otherwise to stay alive twice a week. If he doesn't he will grow weaker over the course of five days and eventually die if he doesn't get an infusion of blood via a transfusion or consume something through the mouth. This problem can be mitigated to a point by eating meat during meals or getting regular transfusions of blood through an I.V.

Iron Weakness: Despite not being an wicked spirit, his kind can be fatally wounded by iron weapons. If such a wound is delivered he will need to consume the blood of another living being or a significant portion of meat to live.

Vanity: He may not be an egotistical prick, but being a fashion designer, he some times gets too caught up in looking fabulous for his own good. It some times get to the point where it interferes with appointments, meetings, business, and other important things.

Holds A Grudge: He's not the most vengeful, spiteful being on the planet but when someone earns his ire, he can become to consumed by the prospect of getting back at them to pay attention to his better judgment.

Obsessive Perfectionism: While his drive to do his best is a positive thing, his perfectionism when it comes to his craft and duties can be a point of frustration for his co-workers. He has a difficult time moving on if something isn't just right.

Drain: If one of his kind over use their powers it will kill them. Some of them are more draining than others. It's believed this is one of the reasons that they need to consume the substances they do. They need a fairly regular in take of a substance imbued with vitae.

Melancholy: Underneath it all, despite his contentment, despite his outgoing elements, he's a very sad individual. When he's in one of his moods it's difficult to console him. He becomes despondent when consumed by his lonlieness. His species tend to be solitary, but a series of past events have beat a sense of depression into him.
Hobbies: Ikebana, Fashion Design, Dancing (trained in contemporary), Freerunning, Geocaching, reading, playing pool, collecting plushies and knives.
Face Claim: I honestly have no clue. Sorry.

I do have one other character that might be good for this if you don't like Takumi. He's a bit more toned down.

    Drake Valentine

    #142

    Name:
    Kido, Taiga
    Age:.
    Twenty-Five, by normal mortal standards
    Sex:
    Male
    Race:
    Undead
    Type:
    Ghoul
    Origin:
Inspired by various Animes and Mythologies.
    Notable Abilities/Skills:

    • Disease/Contaminant Immunity: Poison, venom, viruses, radiation, diseases natural or manmade, bacteria, everything of that nature is useless against him. He can even survive off of eating raw or rotten meat.
    • Enhanced Durability, Endurance, Speed, Strength, and Reflexes: His physical abilities are above the average human, but nothing more than that. He can run for long periods of time without tiring, lift twice his physical weight with ease, and even dash up to 20mph in speed. His body is able to sustain heavy damage, including taking a shotgun round to the chest without being killed. Though he will need time to heal after the initial blast. His reflexes are also enhanced enough to follow the trajectory path of a projectile if it hasn't already been fired at him and the paths of physical attacks if his opponents aren't super-humanely faster than him.
    • Enhanced Senses: His five senses are beyond a normal human’s, most notably his sense of smell. This fact alone is a rumored reason to him shielding his nose wherever he goes.
    • Natural Recovery: His wounds are able to heal, but generally it takes time for them to do so and often he recovers faster when feeding as humanoid essence does greatly contribute to his regeneration; up to healing destroyed or burnt tissue and mending broken bones. Of course, depending on the essence, he may be able to heal even severe limbs.
    • Able to Exceed Human Limits: His biggest of actual powers, he can go above and beyond the limits of a human being, thusly capable of expanding a physical attribute tenfold. Unfortunately, this too has its limits, he is no where near perfection and the physical body can only take upon so much strain of being pushed beyond its capacity. Prolonged use or going overboard will cause his body to quickly collapse and physically begin to break down, leaving him vulnerable till he may have time enough to recover and heal. Being ‘young,’ ten times is still his present limit and even those are instant rushes of power; he can last longer by exceeding less of what the human body may be capable of.
    Notable Equipment:

    • His Mask/Nose Band: He often covers his nose and usually more below. If anything, it is rare to see him without a nose band at the least.
    Role:
Handyman  / Sweeper - Need a cleaning? He’s your man. Need a fixing of minor things? He’s your man. Need those bodies or evidence to go missing? Well, he is definitely your man.  Need some asses kicked and names taken? Well, he could do that to, but that will cost extra.
    Recruitment Status:
    Recruited
    Employment History:
Taiga was 'scouted' after various rumors begun to surface through cities on missing people, mainly that of those affiliated with heavier crime. The Circle tracked down the vigilante, although the scene they happened upon wasn't the least appetizing. They caught him in the middle of his feasting upon human scum, a one sided massacre. They gave him two options, the safer of which he took.
    Appearance:
    Images
    Sexuality:
    Heterosexual
On/Off: Drake Valentine (Hope you see what I did there.)

(As in additional OOC note, I am unsure how sexuality will play out. I was actually looking more towards something story related than smut and I do not see my character really acting on anyone. With that said, if you really want to do something, you are just going to have your character work at it. Displeased? Too bad. Not all my creations are smut geared. Some just happen to have screws loose. )

    Personality:
Sadistic: When it comes to murder he takes it to a whole new level. He brings forth the wrath of God upon his foes, taking it to an extreme of ripping them limb from limb and sometimes taking others alive to torture before he kills and eats them. Still, he is careful in most regards, the only evidence he leaves behind is the large blood splatters in whatever terrain the deeds may take place within.
Secretive: He usually keeps to himself and doesn’t go about telling much of his business to anyone. In fact, he is a wonderful listener, the best one may ever find to tell all their dirty secrets to. Why? Because he just doesn’t give a shit about them and will never tell anyone. What would he get from talking about others when he hardly talks about himself?
Honorable: To an extent. His nobility is usually from how he was raised, however he won’t stray far of putting a boot upside someone’s head when they are down on the ground. On the contrary, he often avoids touching innocent civilians or bystanders who are trying to live their daily lives. Criminals and evildoers on the other hand? Why, that sounds like a delicacy.
Loyal: To another extent. He will follow most orders that are given to him, but if there is something that trails the thin line of his twisted values than he will refuse. He still has a mind of his own, although he will never do anything that may jeopardize or betray the Circle; unless it falls in absolute evil.
Mysterious: It is hard for many to tell what he is thinking and still there are some within the Circle struggling to figure him out.  In fact, there are things he may do that might not even seem like him, but they are small and meager habits that are usually forgotten later.
Vengeful: He will go out of his way to get someone back, he is the last person any may wish to piss off; depending on the circumstances is a matter of life and death.

    Background:
    WIP
    Merits:

    • Martial Arts Training: Jujutsu & Jeet Kune Do, although he is no expert in either field, he can easily hold his own against most opponents who may be armed or unarmed and knows how to disarm armed individuals.
    • Street Smarts: He possesses a high amount of common sense when it comes to life on the streets. He is observant of his surroundings wherever he goes and often makes a mental layout of the area he may be in. He knows how to navigate through streets and how to blend in with the crowds, although he may come off as an oddball most of the time with something wrapped over his nose.
    • Nocturnal: Night is his lifestyle and his eyes are unhindered by the dark. Even if he was somewhere pitch black, he can still see fairly well and navigate his way out.
    • Free Running / Nimble: Another part of growing up on the streets, before his martial arts training, he has always been naturally nimble. With most of his years of past and present training in fighting, he has become more adapted to his body capabilities and also how to use it with his surroundings, being able to scale over most objects or make jumps that seem impossible(nothing far fetch, unless he is exceeding his limits) possible.
    • Cold Blooded Killer: For better or for worse, he is a killer. He is not the type to hesitate when taking another‘s life if pushed nor is he one to think twice on the act given the scenario.
    Shortcomings:

    • Immortality: He is no where near immortal, in fact there are plenty ways to kill a Ghoul. Fire, decapitation, enough damage to the brain.
    • Bit of Sociopath: He has a hard time dealing with people or becoming part of the ‘norm.’ Sit down talks are the most interesting things involving him and his topics of interest may scare most people. As a result, he often keeps to himself.
    • Lack of firearm knowledge:  He has little to no interest in using firearms. Preferably he would avoid them altogether, although there are some that are trying to push him into learning.
    • Lack of weapon training: At most he knows how to disarm armed opponents; though those techniques are mainly from his unarmed combat skills.
    • Sunlight: Although it will not kill him it does weaken him physically towards a more human level in attributes, minus his natural ability to exceed human limits.
    • Fire: A despicable element, one he loathes with a passion. It is his main bane and kryptonite.
    • Cold Blooded Killer:  Although he may be a murder, he is presently on a thin line of good and evil in that regard. More so on the fact that he has reframed from killing someone who may be an ’innocent.’ Most of his hunts are often criminals and general scum that inhabitants the world whether they be humans or monsters.
    Hobbies:
Freaking people out. Yeah, why not?

I think there is always room for a Franksteinian type monster, but that's just me.

I also think a Sasquatch type would be cool, as it's different than what's expected.
Alive! Trying to catch up but there is a lot, please be patient! Thank you. <3

Not much to talk about really, just an idea I've had for awhile. Street punk pickpocket? Suck him in and steal his slight of hand skills. Sorcerer want's revenge on the apprentice who killed him? Channel that mage duel, no personal magic ability required. Spec Ops ghost got eaten and wants to stop it from happening again? Long term companion you can borrow firearms and explosives skills from.

The major personality quark would be his pride in being a Necromancer and his annoyance with people who use that term for Necrokinetics. ('mancer' roughly translates as 'speaker' or 'speaker with' so a 'necromancer' is a 'speaker with the dead'. Someone who animates the dead would be a 'kinetic' or 'movement/mover') I read the intro and immediately saw him getting into a philosophical debate/argument with William. But like I said, it's just an idea that bubbled up a few months ago and has been lurking around since. I have a lot of those...

So yeah, not too attached. Might run a Heavy Weapons Big Foot that can shrink and loose some hair to become a large human for stealth purposes. Make Miniguns come back in style. Still thinking it all over.

Of course not, I just got done saying I can't manage the accent. He'd have an obsession with duel-wielding miniguns. And maybe an awkward, somewhat guilty relationship with the trappings of civilization... maybe he'd like them but he's working to get his home forest declared a nature preserve for the rest of the tribe/pack/pride?

    ...

And once again I start answering one question only for my brain to run off and storm a bit unsupervised...

    @GMs:
Before I go too far down this rabbit hole I feel I should ask, are there any other roles that are desired beyond the stated weapons specialist, tech guy, and scientist? I don't want to impend the plot progression or restrict the variety of missions by making the game gun heavy as well as spy heavy but lacking in other skills. There seems to be a glut of semi-immortals (and out right immortals) already but I could make an 18th century alchemist who has expanded into modern chemistry and developed a taste for explosives. That way he could be a field agent and/or work in the lab, maybe be able to do some chemical analysis as well. Or the angel I mentioned earlier, she'd be a wind mage and I noted an odd lack of actual spell casters. Maybe a telepathic communications specialist? I can make someone to fit almost any role so my main problem is picking one (slightly indecisive about that...) so if you'd like something specific just say. Only problem is my characters tend to be more hands on then appropriate for a scientist/researcher role... unless you want a monstrous Indiana Jones type of character...

Well, if we're talking utility, we're currently lacking a medical specialist, an engineer, a mechanic and a CHEF! (yep, no cooks yet o.O)

As for operative roles... We've got two weapons specialists, a handful of stealth and covert specialists, a magic-tuned character, and some fighters.

Well cooking is easy enough to build into another concept... depending on the desired uncertainty factor. There's the Discworld Igors who visit dying people to get things like hearts, lungs, hands, eyes, and legs for the people on their 'little list', and who believe nothing should be wasted... serving liver and onions. It's good, but you're always afraid to ask what kind of liver it is... or if the question should be whose...  On a slightly less worrisome but creeper scale we have the Alchemist-Chemist who handles the cooking because "it's just basic chemistry!". Which is fine, right up until you tell him the meal was delicious and he starts staring at you, taking notes, and asking you how you feel. It's only worse if he's the prankster sort who does this even when he hasn't added anything funky to the meal.  :P

As for the other utility posts... The engineer is clearly a primary job but the medical specialist varies. I could see a weapons specialist who doubles as a mechanic or the team medic, but not an assault cannon toting surgeon. Although Kamal or Hadley could both acquire a medical bent with disturbing ease... nothing like being able to make a perfectly sharpened, entirely sterile scalpel blade on demand. Plus a deep knowledge of anatomy is equally useful to a surgeon or a swordsman.

Meh... not sure which ideas I like more... the Sasquatch minigunner that maintains the vans and helicopter, the explosives expert Alchemist who cooks... unique dishes, or the easily distracted wind mage angel (or just some humanoid race with wings) who theoretically can cook but who often gets sidetracked in the middle of meal preparation or forgets entirely. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter? I could also make the Alchemist a combat medic with some crazy salves if people would rather have the healing.

This is, after all, supposed to be at least 'Mild Horror.' I'm not saying characters can't have quirks, or misunderstand the world, or just be misunderstood -- but that should still go with the theme of horror, or at least, not evoke a laugh track. I know for me, and I may be incorrect, I don't see this game as a wacky sitcom with Monsters in it.

I'm always down for a character that occasionally brings some comedic relief to the table, as long as it's not a constant thing, personally. I'd get bored if the entire game had one tone that never allowed for variation because that occasional variation could somehow be seen as detracting from the over all tone/theme, just like I'd probably get annoyed when every single scene turned in to one character's jokes and derail everything. Some of the best dramas have light hearted moments sprinkled throughout (Downton Abbey or Sons of Anarchy, for instance), and I don't really see horror as any different. The key is making it so a character isn't a constant running gag that detracts and distracts from the rest of the game.
I want no ordinary lover. I want a storm. I want sleepless nights and endless conversations at four a.m. I want passion, I want madness.

    Probably a moot point now...

My character can do both abilities, though Necromancy needs his Deathmask to be worn (if I remember my power limits correctly) and Necrokinetics needs him to spill blood on the deceased and essentially concentrate on puppeteering/drone controlling the body. So, there is room for sure IMO (though I'm not a GM of course!) for characters that can do those abilities, though it is in essence my own character's whole schtick and main power-set.
My only caveat would be if you wanted a Necro character to see how we can differ the power and also be able to make it fun for both our characters to play off each other :)

Just my opinion and like I've said before, we all should enjoy who we play and play who we want to :)

I actually considered your point about the genre but, in my opinion, a game should have no less oddness or humor then real-life and there are people who respond to stress and horror with a snarky joke and a grin as a means of self difference. Also there is no genre that doesn't benefit from occasionally poking fun at itself. That said these are more one-off things or a quark that gets brought up when appropriate, rather then every few posts. That said I appreciate the input and will endeavor to keep the perspective humor to a minimum around your characters when/if I make a character.

Forewarning: Any character made by me will encourage a hostile tentacle monster to move to japan at least once. Or at least an all girls boarding school. The 'angel' might hit on it.

I think mostly Saric was trying to have a fun discussion about the possibilities. I tend to enjoy humor in my horror as well, comedy is a great way to relieve the tension and make characters more approachable and lovable in a genre that usually discourages players/readers from getting attached to different characters, as much as drama does. That said, I can understand players' concern regarding the gameplay becoming too silly.

I don't think it's going to be a problem with you, Saric, and Caela and myself are curious about the end results of your efforts. Carry on, please.

That's kind of where I'm leaning myself. My main problem is, as usual, picking one and finishing it. I'm probably going to run the Sasquatch minigunner mechanic or the explosive Alchemist medic. I'll wait to see what the actual flavor of the game ends up being before I consider the Angel, she's a bit too flighty and free spirited for an actual horror setting... mostly because she'd snark an undead Cthulhu and flirt with a werewolf. She came from another group game that died and has been living in my head, rent free, ever since.

    Name: Solas
Age: It never states the same answer twice.
Sex: It appears female in form, but who the hell knows.
    Race: Shapeshifter
Type: Solas is based upon Raven mythology, both the concept of Raven as a trickster and as a psychopomp. So, it can shift forms, and has some other, more esoteric abilities.
Origin: Various mythologies, Native American, Norse, ect.  Any mention of Raven or ravens in mythos.
    Notable Abilities/Skills:
    • Shapeshifting: Solas can take the form of a standard raven.  It may freely swap back and forth between that form and the more humanoid form.
    • Superhuman Cleverness: There's no problem that Solas can't solve, no trick it can't devise, no puzzle it can't decipher and no mind it can't outclass.
    • Psychopomp: Solas can enter a trance-like state and delve into the subconscious mind of those in a deep sleep or coma, exploring their dreams and interacting with the dream worlds they inhabit.
    • Haruspicy: Solas can divine meaning and messages in death.  A corpse, be it of a person, monster or animal, gives it supernatural insight into what has happened, what is happening and what might happen in the future.  The clues reside in Solas' interpretation of the body, the arrangement of limbs, manner of death, the way the blood pools, and...most importantly, the taste and consistency of the eyes.
    Notable Equipment:
    • Mask: Solas' mask is not normal.  It can not be removed by anyone but Solas and despite its construction, seems to hinder it's vision not in the slightest.
    • Tools: Gathered in an ancient, battered toolbox, these pristinely maintained tools, and it seems the toolbox contains at least one of every type of tool made, are strictly off-limits to anyone other than the bird.
Role: Mechanic or engineer.  Though, if needed, Solas also makes a pretty damn good scout/assassin.
    Recruitment Status: Recruited
Employment History: Solas was just there one morning, fixing one of the company vehicles without saying a word to anyone.  All attempts to speak to it were met with polite murmurs that Solas was too busy to talk.  And so it went for a week, and then another, so the Company finally decided to make things official, since they couldn't think of any reason not to.  Especially since the bird seemed so damned useful.
Appearance: What you see is pretty much what you get with Solas.  There might be someone out there who has seen it without the mask, but it's unlikely.
Sexuality: Not quite sure on this.  Solas will cross that bridge when it comes to it.
    On/Off: Ons & Offs
Personality: Solas is strange.  It comes off as aloof, or perhaps that's just the expectation, because the reality is that it is quite the social creature.  It is frighteningly brilliant, a genius of cunning, and it loves humor in many forms.  While it hardly seems affectionate, and its company can be somewhat disconcerting, it actively seeks out interaction with others when it isn't working.
Background: Solas' history seems to be a cobbled-together mess of lies, half-truths and plagiarisms.  One moment it will tell a grand story of how it used to ride with the vikings on their ships, either to explore or to wage war.  The next it will claim that it grew up in England, a poor beggar child who was sold to a wealthy man to work in his stables.  No two tales are ever the same, and while they're easy to dismiss as fabrications, Solas tells them quite believably and with a knack for making them entertaining.
    Merits:
    • Storytelling/Bardic Prowess: Solas can enchant an audience with its tales, turning even the most humdrum story into a riveting experience.  This talent also tends to make one want to believe what it says.  So, no matter how outrageous the story may be, there's always a part of people that wants it to be true.
    • Trickery: When it comes to outwitting others and turning their flaws to an advantage, no one beats Solas.
    Shortcomings:
    • Alien: Solas is not human.  Not only does it stick out like a sore thumb in its humanoid form, but its mind works in ways that can make it almost impossible for it to understand regular people.  Commerce?  Social Niceties?  It's not accustomed to dealing with the everyday things of living in the world, so it behaves strangely if expected to feign normalcy.  Not to mention...giant-ass Raven mask.
    • Disconcerting: Even for those who do not know about the unpleasant means by which Solas performs its haruspicy, it is not an entirely welcome creature to have around.  The mask and undefined nature of its being make others uncomfortable, and it has quite a difficult time putting anyone at ease in its presence.  This can prove quite an issue when keeping someone calm is the goal, and Solas happens to be in the room.
    • Untrustworthy: It comes as no surprise that it can be difficult to trust something which has no face, seems to never really tell the entire truth and has some pretty disturbing mannerisms and abilities.  Plus, there's the fact that shiny things tend to go missing when Solas is around...
Hobbies: Repairing old vehicles, exploring the city as a raven, enjoying the architecture, absorbing world literature, creating bizarre works of art out of scrap metal
Face Claim: It has no face.

    GM NOTE:

    Hey, guys!
I hope you're all as thrilled as we are!
Caela and I are hard at work, getting everything ready for the launch of CoS.

However, since we have received several new character submissions and are running somewhat behind on schedule on the conceptualizing and preparations,
I've decided to postpone the launch to November 4th, that's next Tuesday.

As much as we wanted to bring you this game on the 31st, it's by far more important to us to do this thing the right way, and bring you a fully thought-out and high-quality game.
Also, most of you are going to be out for your various Halloween celebrations, anyway  ;)

Consequentially, the hard deadline for all character submissions will be the 3rd of November. We won't be considering any new applications past that date.
There might be a new round of recruitment at a later date, but not just now.

Solas crosses over with Johnny a little bit, but I have faith that the GMs can sort out their powers so our characters can work well together and not overlap with their abilities too much... :)

    Lux12

I get the feeling I'm going to need to come up with a different character idea at this point.

    Bibliophilia

Wander, I see Solas using the whole psychopomp thing a lot less than other powers.  Plus, Johnny seems more about controlling the dead and using them, and for Solas, it's more that they come and Solas is duty-bound to guide them.  They're more of an issue than a boon.

    bubby

Well poopy. I had pondered joining, but there's no way I can get a bio done by then, even if my idea(s) are accepted. Good luck! Looks to be epic!

OR.... I could give it a go.....  >_>

Now to choose between dragon or vampire/demoness....

    Dotley

I can't make the deadline for submissions so won't be applying for consideration, but just wanted to drop a comment of support and love for the concept of the story and all the unique characters that I've seen. Great ideas all around. Anyways, just wanted to wish you all luck and express my appreciation for what has been created  :-)

Mm, it's down to how his powers have been restricted... The main thing I wanted Johnny to be was a spirit possessed who enabled ghosts to pass on through his abilities, which eventually came alot to do with his Deathmask power... Its perhaps down to how I wrote his powers, that for me the dead were plot hooks and his link with them gave him some abilities... The raising the dead thing originally was more a way to enable the ghost to have their old body solve their anchors, with Johnny enabling that to happen by controlling them (saying last goodbyes etc), however now he's gone a bit of a different way in a sense...

I don't have a big issue and I have faith the GMs will have a cool way to get our characters to work as a good team to bat off each other, long as there's a way we compliment each other rather than overlap, I'm all cool... as my character is about having the dead pass on rather than be a manipulator as their powers seem to suggest :)

    Dotley

So! I didn't think I'd be able to make the deadline on time but I had a job finish up early and was able to come home to my laptop and get it typed up. Here is my character application for consideration  :-)

Looking over the front page and through the thread I didn't see any requests to also PM it to the GMs, so I hope it's just alright to post it here as I've seen others do?

    Name: Noel Frost
Age: He personified into his human form around 1305. Before that he was just a lowly, incorporeal spirit with little awareness or agency
    Sex: Male
    Race: Nature Spirit
    Type: Ice Elemental
Origin: Original creation. Inspired by Jack Frost, Father Winter, Yuki-onna, Final Fantasy, and Disney's Frozen
    Notable Abilities/Skills:

    • Ice & Snow Manipulation: As a nature spirit of winter and a literal being of ice he has a magical dominion over his element. Noel is able to extract heat to create ice, snow, sleet, frost, and other wintry conditions. He can rapidly lower the temperature around him and tends to naturally do so as his mere presence causes chilliness unless he's actively suppressing himself. Noel's favorite use of his power is to create intricate works of art. He can also use his powers to create functional golems constructed out of ice or snow and control them with his will, though such feats require time to make them and concentration to maintain their functionality. In winter or favorable locations his powers are amplified, though in summer or unfavorable conditions they are significantly weakened.
    • Weather Influence & Awareness: While Noel cannot control the weather he can influence it on a small scale when certain conditions are met. For instance, if it is raining and the natural temperature is mild or cold it is relatively easy for him to influence the rain in his immediate surroundings to turn into snow. Though without the help of other nature spirits his influence won't stick and may only last minutes or hours. This ability is also seasonal and dependent on the natural landscape. He'd have no issue heightening a blizzard on a mountain in winter, but he could never cause a freak snowstorm in the tropics during summer. Noel also has an uncanny awareness for shifts in weather, such as knowing when rain will stop or start.
    • Inhuman Physiology: In order to obtain a human form Noel first has to find a host. While he has sometimes found a lost traveler already dying of hypothermia to act as his human shell he's also just flat-out frozen people to death. His latest human form was obtained when the young man left a window open a crack during a snow storm. Once the human's last warmth has been snuffed out Noel stuffs himself inside and reanimates it. The physical body he possess actually just houses his true form and allows him to interact with the world more effectively than his real form as an ice elemental. Noel might appear to be a human, but he doesn't totally function as one. As a wintery spirit of nature he has complete immunity from the cold, water, or ice. He'll never succumb to hypothermia or drown. He isn't susceptible to the diseases or viruses that plague humans and has no need to consume food. While his body doesn’t age he’s still capable of being harmed and killed - though in the latter case he’ll evacuate and will have to spend significant time and energy finding and then constructing a new body for himself.
    • Nature Communication: Noel has no control or influence over nature outside of his element, but he is capable of hearing and speaking with other aspects of the natural world.
    • Levitation: He's capable of carelessly floating through the air. The speed in which he can move is entirely dependent on current wind speed within the area. The wind has to be blowing quite harsh for Noel to be capable of doing anything beyond levitating in place or leisurely hovering about.
    Notable Equipment:

    • N/a
Role: I’m amiable to the GMs deciding where Noel would fit best if he’s accepted, though I can see him playing a supporting and occasionally offensive role during missions. He’s not going to be physically getting up in anyone’s face or throwing punches, but his powers would serve well for slowing down or trapping opponents. Noel is definitely more a mage type then brawler sort.
Recruitment Status: Yet to be recruited is my preferred route, though unless the GMs think otherwise I'd like to see Noel's recruitment happening not as a formal mission but as something on a much smaller scale. I’d love to play out his recruitment, even if it’s just a single conversational scene where one or two operatives invite him to join the company. However if the GMs prefer he already be recruited I can roll with that as well, I’d just like some GM assistance agreeing on who actually recruited him into the fold.
    Employment History: N/a
Appearance: Even though the cold doesn’t bother him Noel usually dresses in winter fashion. He loves coats, gloves, scarves, and hats. He’s also very fond of sunglasses and frequently dons a pair.
Noel's True Form as an Ice Elemental

Sexuality: Noel doesn’t really subscribe to the human concept of gender or sexual orientations, but since he’s never found himself romantically or sexually attracted to women he’s fine with being identified as gay.
On/Off: Dotley’s O/O. However as indicated within the thread all of my characters are unique in regards to their sexual interests and dislikes. Noel is a brand new character so I can’t say for sure where he might fall on the scale of dom/switch/sub or top/versatile/bottom or what kinks he might be into. Such things would have to be explored within the story. All I know for sure is that temperature play would be inevitable with him!
Personality: Noel is naturally curious, playful, and patient. While he's capable of being cruel and occasionally bitter he isn’t usually gloomy. He’s quite clever and can sometimes be a bit of a trickster. He appreciates a good joke and tends to be more optimistic than pessimistic.
Background: Noel grew out of his infancy and reached his prime during the beginning of the so called “Little Ice Age” around the early 1300’s and possessed his first human form during it. He spend his first years personified delighting in his new awareness of the world and his increased ability to interact with it. The time period was a boon period for ice elementals throughout the world and he spent that century playing all sorts of tricks, both friendly and cruel, on humans and other monsters. Throughout the years he’s taken on a variety of names due to his lack of a true name of his own. The names he does take tend to be puns or tongue-in-cheek hints to his true nature. Jack, Nicholas, John, Nowell, Moroz, White, and Snow - he plays around with all sorts of different combinations. Noel Frost is just his latest made up name. Noel has lived carefree and without any real responsibilities for most of his life. He’s mostly traveled about from one location to another mastering his powers and learning about the other beings that inhabited the world.

That is until the industrial revolution started and things started to change. As human productively increased and the earth began to slowly warm up Noel found many of his fellow ice elementals dying off or retreating to the far north or far south and abandoning their human forms. Within the past few decades Noel joined ranks with some fellow extremist nature spirits that could aptly be described as environmental terrorists, though Noel didn’t quite find a solid place for himself in those circles. He helped pull off a few freak storms and blizzards, though eventually Noel distanced himself from such havoc and retreated to his own counsel. And during the height of his loneliness was when the company approached him.

    Merits:

    • Creativity & Artistic Talents: Ever since Noel personified he’s been playing around with his powers for artistic pursuits. He’s capable of creating stunning and beautiful works of art out of ice and snow, though his creations are temporary. He always lets them melt.
    • Contacts With Nature Folk: Noel is on good terms with a large variety of groups and individuals that are somehow connected with nature. He’s called friend and ally by many fellow nature spirits, yeti, fairies, sprites, pixies, undines, nymphs, etc. While he has no special power or authority over these folks he does have social connections to them and would be a good point of introduction if the company ever needs cooperation or information from these communities.
    • Multilingual: He speaks and can understand multiple languages with varying degrees of fluency. The languages he understands best are English, German, Russian, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Sami, Chinese, and Japanese.
    • Playfulness: Despite being an embodiment of winter Noel isn’t a eternally cold or terrifying figure. He’s always up for a snowball fight or making snow angels. One could say he’s more lighthearted than black hearted. He has a dark side and is fond of dark humor, but overall he’s a playful and easy going guy.
    Shortcomings:

    • Illiteracy: He's never learned how to read or write.
    • Occasional Malevolency: Through a human’s viewpoint Noel can be prone to pettiness and casual cruelty. On more than one occasion he has frozen humans in their sleep or led them astray during blizzards. Usually those people had been rude, broken rules of hospitality, or were disrespectful towards nature. But not always.
    • Moderately Xenophobic: Noel can be quite ignorant of human culture and sometimes unfriendly towards anyone that isn't a fellow spirit of nature. However as far as ice elementals go he's considered a moderate among magical beings that are increasingly adopting extreme stances and intense conservative views against humanity due to global warming. He also has a hard time understanding and accepting some nuances of human cultural practices.
    • Extreme Heat Sensitivity: Prolonged exposure to high temperatures will make Noel experience heat sickness. He’ll sweat excessively, vomit water, and become confused. Being in a warm environment won’t immediately kill him, but it does make it difficult for him to function. And if he’s unable to cool himself down there is a possibility of him totally melting and thus dying a true death. Because of this he has a big fear of fire.
Hobbies: Experimenting with his abilities, ice sculpting, ice skating, lounging around, sledding, swimming

So this is what I've got so far, it's now 4:20AM here so I'm gonna go sleep and then try and finish him up. Let me know what you guys think so far.

    Perspective character - still WIP
    Name: Bartholomew "Booms" Kendwick
    Age: 127, looks 27
    Sex: Male
    Race: Human
Origin: Human: Aging suspended. Based on legends of alchemy and the philosopher's stone.
    Notable Abilities/Skills:

    • Alchemy - Secret to Eternal Life? Sorta. Homunculi? Don't go there... Bubbling elixirs that do the impossible, often powered by lightning? Ooooh yeah!
    • Chemistry - Have you ever examined the chemical composition of vampiric ashes, or a dragon's scale under an electron microscope? Fascinating! Oh, don't touch that, it's just sulfuric acid. The plastic explosives are in the steel locker next to the fire extinguisher.
    • Medic - Remember you drink the bubbling purple vial and you apply the glowing pink stuff directly to the wound. If the bullet hole hasn't closed in the next 5 minutes call me. If you start leaking green smoke from the wound call me immediately and avoid open flames.
    • Explosives Expert - Did you want the building to collapse in on itself, fall across the road or just sprinkle down across the countryside? Also, on fire or not?
    • Chef - Tonight we will be having quail in a lemon-butter sauce over a bed of pasta with a side of balsamic grilled asparagus. Dessert will be creme brulee with a fruit compote.
Notable Equipment: *If there's anything special in your character's possession, that exceeds the reasonable everyday property- be it weapons, special tech, enchanted artifacts, list it here.*

    • Potions - Assorted potions of varied and miraculous ability, ranging from healing salves to sleeping gas to a vial of instant cushioning foam.
    • Philosopher's Stone - Primary catalyst for creating the Elixir of Life. Elixir made with this stone will only work on Bartholomew. Anyone else would require a custom Stone of their own.
Role: Cook, Investigative chemist, Explosives guy, Prankster, Medic, Recreational substance supplier, etc
Recruitment Status: Recruited/Yet to be recruited. (I'm good with ether.)
Employment History: N/A or There are surprisingly few places to get shavings of Manticore spines... the Company, and specifically agent Lauren Walters, is one of them. The conversation went from there.
Appearance: Clothing is generally more modern but keeps notes of style from his younger days. Likes brass.
Sexuality: Heterosexual. Enjoys switching up his role somewhat but isn't much of a sub.
On/Off: I just use the default profile.
Personality: *Personalities will be widely explored during the game, just put a general description here*
Background: *Your character's story, its history.*
    Merits:

    • Instinctive chemist - He as a gift for looking at a substance and knowing how it will react to other chemicals.
    • Firm friend - He's always got a ready smile and a cheerful greeting for anyone, but true friends are few. Those he does have, however, he'd storm Hell for.
    Shortcomings:

    • Lady troubles - He can't resist flirting with a pretty face... something that has gotten him in trouble more then once over the years. It has also prevented him from starting any long-term relationships so it is unknown if he'd go beyond flirting while attached.
    • Aged mind - Figuring out what works isn't a problem, figuring out how it works is much harder. He has and uses a cellphone. He still thinks of it as being run by very quick but stupid imps because the real reason hurts his brain. Does not apply to modern chemistry but does affect his understanding of how the tools work. (He still doesn't really get what the 'electron' in his electron microscope is for.)
Hobbies: Cooking, metallurgy, experimenting with warping the fabric of reality... one brew at a time.

Thanks Caehilm! And good to see you around. I was really inspired by the "monsters touched by humanity" bit in the opening post and wanted to go with something nontraditional so decided to look at nature through a horror lens. It was fun thinking what ice and frost and winter personified would be like. Should he be accepted I think his headspace will be very fun to explore.

And what a beautiful song! I've heard lots of covers of Let It Go but first time hearing this one. Thanks for sharing. Not a bad song to get stuck in one's head   :-)

    Hey, guys!

Just a reminder, when the clock strikes midnight (server time) recruitment will be closed for now.
So if you still have parts in your CSs that are WIP, if you still need to submit your characters to us, you have 12 hours to do so.

    Cheers!

Yeah I love this one, it mixes Vivaldi's winter in with Let it Go and combines them into one song beautifully. These guys have obscene levels of talent.

    • Lighting Rod - Actually an alchemical device for attracting lightning. Note: Can be pointed at someone else but unlikely to work outside of a thunderstorm.

Recruitment Status: Recruited/Yet to be recruited. (I'm good with ether.)

Sexuality: Heterosexual. Enjoys switching up his role somewhat but isn't much of a sub.
On/Off: I just use the default profile.
Personality: Cheerful, upbeat and mischievous Bartholomew, or 'Booms' as he likes to be called these days, is a character in the truest sense of the word. He'll flirt with anything female and pretty, even if they're trying to kill him, snark fae lords and zombie hordes alike, and always enjoys pranking people with his 'art'... even when he's not using it. This isn't to say that he doesn't have a more serious side to him and he takes the lives and well-being of children very seriously. Actually kill a child, or leave them orphaned, and you'll swiftly find out what it feels like to be hunted by a semi-immortal whose concoctions melt through walls and spells with equal ease, who can run for days on bottled sleep, and who knows exactly what you're made of... and what will mix with you... explosively.
Background: Born in 1887 to a poor family, Bartholomew was eventually sold to be the apprentice of "The Madman of the Manor" at the age of 12. Once he got over his initial fear of the fierce, bearded old man he soon came to realize that, whatever else his master was, he wasn't mad. Learning to read, reckon, and measure took up his early days as he served as a glorified 'gofer' but within a year he was an apprentice in truth, whereupon they discovered his natural talent in alchemy and what would later be called 'chemistry'.

For the next ten years he learned everything his master could teach him, and taught his master a few things as well, they were the happiest days of his life. Then the vampire came to town. It was old, canny and cruel, and had developed a taste for children. It entered town openly as a minor nobleman come to the country for his health and charmed much of the population. When the first child vanished a few days later few looked at him. The 'Madman' fell under swift suspicion but he was too busy trying to find the child by alchemy and magic to notice, the lights from his work flickering unusually late into the night did not help his reputation. As a second and then a third child went missing the town grew restless and angry... then the body of the first child was found, bloodless, in the fortified manor's moat.

Bartholomew was sent out the secret passage, left from the days when the manor served as the home of a noble family, with as many tomes of lore and notes as he could carry while his master tried to calm the rioting villagers before they smashed his equipment and unleashed the unstable and unfinished substances within. The roaring pillar of fire, crackle of unleashed lighting, and the screams of those trapped within followed Bartholomew for miles.

He spent the next three years finding out what had happened, tracking down the vampire, and forcing a bottle of stored sunlight down it's undead throat, incidentally making it the first vampire to burn from the inside out. Now a man of 26 he determined that horrors like the vampire should not be allowed to roam freely, but that one lifetime was not enough to keep them in check. He promptly set out to discover the recipe for the famed Philosopher's Stone and a year later drank his first drought of the Elixir of Life.

The next hundred years passed swiftly for 'Bart' as he traveled much of Europe and America selling his concoctions, hunting monsters that cross the line, and learning ever more of the burgeoning sciences. He has amassed a considerable fortune selling cures for everything from deadly diseases to unsightly marks on the skin, attended college six times, and accidentally killed off a small mid-western town that had fallen under the sway of a demon. Various woman have attempted to poison or otherwise kill him fourteen times, not counting monsters he was actively hunting. In recent years he has developed a love of, and skill at, both cooking and explosives but, fortunately, he has yet to blend the two interests. He enjoys long walks on the beach, large explosions, and the smell of lightning.

    GM NOTE:

    Hey, guys!

We've been working non-stop on this game for the last couple of days, but there is so much to do and so little room for screw ups! We really want to give you a great and well thought-out game, not something half-assed or unremarkable.

So, I'm going to postpone the launch for a couple of days, the very last deadline will be this Friday, although I cautiously hope we'd be able to bring it up sooner than that. We know you're eager to start, we are even more so.

Which means that all of you that have missed the deadline with your characters still have hope, the new deadline is on the 6th, 12am, server time. Keep on working, if you have something to work on, and to all of you that have already revised and submitted- we will get back to you as soon as Caela and I get some time to converse.

    -Ro

On a more positive note, I will soon upload your shiny new markers, so that's something! :P

Roen has gotten the game under way and we will not be accepting any more applications for the moment. We are still working through the last few that we got and if you haven't gotten a PM yet, you will. Thank you everyone for your interest!

Posting here because of Roen's PM, I would be interested to return to this game. :)
