How do you generate a Kill Team?

It just from seeing the Faction Focuses seems more like Shadow War than the traditional Kill Team, to me. Very limited choices (more limited than 7e Kill Team) and looks to be a smaller points value for the team too, like 100pts or so.

Kinda gutted I couldn't play Custodes. I could field my Death Guard, though it seems that you can't use Cultists with them and I don't own any of dem zombie models.

TheLaughingOne

No idea, the local store opens late enough i was only able to grab the book, wait for a bus, then crash soon as i got home, just enough time to check the fangs box.

but seems the choices are more varied then shadow war, you can get diff unit types as the build up stuff showed marines can get intercessors, reivers, tacticals, and scouts with a variety of options, tau can get fire warriors, breachers, pathfinders, and stealth suits, and so forth. But still havent had a real chance to sit and read unfortinately, but looked like chaos still got Marines and Cultist, not sure on DGs.

And maybe custodes was just a BIT to beefy? I mean, tactical squads are usually 5-6 guys, where as custodes are quite a bit more durable and hard hitting...?

Yeah, they mentioned all those choices in the Faction Focuses, including the Primaris stuff. Looks like DG are stuck with Plague Marines and Poxwalkers. The vanilla CSM get cultists, though DG can field them too and in 7e Kill Team would have been viable for both.  :-X

It may include more than Shadow War, though it's far less than 7th edition Kill Team. I know that in 7e, Custodes wouldn't have been allowed (no 2+ save units), though Geedubs did say every faction would be covered. There are rumours that Custodes will get a later release, though that's just rumours.

So you need to get supplements also to get the full whack? Sounds even worse.

I'll just stick with Heralds of Ruin.

TheLaughingOne

Might be they release those factions like Custodes free and webwise later on, cause, well... They would kinda hammer the hell outta most everything.

Something weird friend pointed out:
Weapon ranges. Anything beyond Half your weapons max range (so if your guns range 12, anything past 6 inches) is considered long range, and there is a universal -1 to hit roll for shooting at long range unless weapon profiles say otherwise. So your at a disadvantage otherwise...

Imperial guard can start off fielding EIGHT plasma gunners from the get go. 8 guys with plasma, total cost of 85pts, leaving you just enough to slap in a sergeant. Thats... Yeah. I think this is gonna get errated alot to fix some balance things possibly...

So do you still buy guys in groups then? As that'd be 10 and a fraction each in points if it's 85pts for eight militarum soldiers.

I guess if it's 100pts for a Kill Team, that does scupper Custodes, as the basic custodian guards are 52pts each.

TheLaughingOne

Costs are a bit different, like cost for a basic space marine is 13 pts at most basic.

You buy each one individually, and they have their basic gear which costs about 0, though upgrades like giving a guy a plasma gun costs 3pts.

there are 3 echelons of guys for most (though like tau have 2, necron only have single level, and ect)

Sergeants cost a little extra and have wide choice on gear,

Gunners have options of heavy weapons or special weapons,

an basic troops are.. well, basic.

There are limits, like your only allowed one sergeant.. Of each type,
so i could buy 4 sergeants, one scout sergeant, one Tactical sergeant, One Reiver sergeant, and one Intercessor sergeant. Gunners are limited to about 2.

How this works for guards though, is infantry squad is limited to 1 gunner,
Special Weapons squads are limited to 3 gunners,
and Scions are limited to 4 gunners.

So,
ISG is 5pts, +3 for plasma, total of 8
SWG is 5pts, +3 for plasma, x3 guards, 24pts
Tempest gunners are 10pts each, +3 for plasma, x4,

Total... 84 pts. that leaves you 16pts, which you could spend to buy a Tempestor sergeant (10pts), give him a plasma pistol (1pt), and buy 1 more GI guards man for a total of 100pts with 10 models total. It doesnt seem to calculate cost from 8th costs, or it does somewhat closely and round the number. Not sure. meh.

Currently Plague Marines in vanilla 8th cost at basic 17pts each, whilst Poxwalkers are just 6pts each.

So I'd get like 4 Plague Marines (68) and then 5 Poxwalkers (30) or something like that. If costs were the same and not counting specialists etc of course.

TheLaughingOne

...
Basic plague Marine is 14 pts,
Gunner is 15pts,
Fighter is 15pts,
and champion is 15.

Poxwalkers are flat 3pts! ... But have like, a ws of 5+, bs of 6+ strength & tough of 3, 1 wound, 2 attacks, and save of 7+. and they can only get improvised melee weapon, ... Which is basicly the same as punching them with bare hands. So you can have a TON of them (max units is 20! still slowly skimming through the book) but their use is meat shield. cant remember if you have to target the closest enemy or not here..

So you would have 26pts to buy another marine and give your guys some specialized gear. which aint to bad.

Sounds about right on Poxwalkers, they're pretty shit unless you get them in bigger blobs, as their 'Diseased Horde' special rule in 8e gives them +1 to hit in squads of 10+ models.
Usually they have WS 5+, so they get to 4+ in big blobs. They're good in 8e as they auto-pass morale checks and each model they kill is raised up as a new Poxwalker, so you can spread them if you drop them on a weak enough unit. The only issue is getting them up the board, potentially you could stick 10 in a Chaos Rhino and get them in quick, though as soon as they take that one casualty they're weaker than a Tau in a fist-fight. They're too expensive for a screen (get Cultists for that) and are more like a mop-up crew as they Move at 4". Some roll them along the backline to advance with Typhus who makes them S4 T4, though I'm not much a fan of them.

It sounds like they have the same stats in Kill Team as their 8e stats, though I'd be interested to know if they had the 'Curse of the Walking Pox', 'Mindless' and 'Diseased Horde' rules. I'm assuming they'll have Disgustingly Resilient.

TheLaughingOne

... the only ability pox have is disgusting resil. Roll a d6 for each wound. 5+ ignore wound. Nothin else. Soo.. yeah. Shambling wall.

Strange, I heard they can still raise Poxwalkers in Kill Team, though thinking how injury rolls work ala Necromunda, it wouldn't make sense if an enemy model only got taken off the board from a minor injury and yet became a Poxwalker on the table.

Well, they make a neat cheap screen I suppose. I'd probably just get six Plague Marines though and just arm them up.

I've been trying to get my mate into Munchkin (never have the time to play with all the 40k and AoS games, haha!), though I think this would be a good in and he's looking for a nice game to play with his young 'un and I think Munchkin is a nice gateway game to pick up nice and easily.

This was your mistake. I recommend a beach-soaked dremel applied to the ear canal.

TheLaughingOne

I think the dremel would be much more useful applied to the guys voice box..

Anyways.. In nothe news, Friend has Finally... FINALLY!! read his necromunda stuff since buying it when box first came out. And now he is jazzed on it. Used orlocks as template basis and "customed" his gang as an imperial guard press force. Still follows legal orlock rules and all, but just modeled with piecemeal guard guys, and that has inspired me..

Gathering up all my little tau bits, im taking the Van Saars, and using them as a base for "Gue'vasa Infiltrators". Bunch of humans who joined the greater good and were shipped to the hive to try and subvert it to the Greater Good. Their specialty weapons are tau guns... Which are just model only, might try and splice them with las gun and other such parts. They arent as powerful as normal pulse weapons as...
1: To smuggle them in they were broke down piecemeal stuff spread over many shipments and have been converted to run on lasgun power packs and so forth. So that lowers the power a good bit.
2: Tau gave them lower quality gear JIC other gangs get a hold of it.
3: ... I forgot number 3.

The van saars lowered close combat stats match as the infils are raised under tau doctorine, they dont really think to focus on melee like the tau.

actually made this guy LONG ago, tau torso, pulse rifle, and arms, legs, and head from dreamforge games Eisnkern storntrooper unit!

Heh. I had a full company of Tau Auxilaries in regular 40K back when I played, but my conversion efforts were limited to using regular Cadian models and giving them Tau infantry shoulderpads, Tau Fire Warriors as my Officers, and an Ethereal as a Priest.

GW heading for the small screen?

If we can see GoT levels of gore on the tv, we can definitely see 40k on there.

Give me First Claw, Eisenhorn, Commissar Blackadder or a 28 season epic of the Horus Heresy :)

So, friend gave me an old tau battle force box from 2001, still with most the bits, and evdn with missing i got a ton of half empty sprues, largely tau fire warriors with breachers and such..

With only few small purchases and what ill be able to build a nice 1000 point army, and just looking over things...

I found the Manta.

Holy. Shit. Fucking. Scary...

Very much "Thats a nice warlord/hierophant titan you got there... be damn shame if.... something happened to it...."

Just for the UK and Ireland atm, but this is apparently what comes with the magazine if you collect all however many issues (60?)

I still haven't been able to figure out where this image came from, though it has cropped up in a few FB groups.

The first issue will get 3 easy to build Primaris for £2, the second has 3 Death Guard for about £4, then 3 Reivers, then pox walkers, by which time the magazine is up to the normal price of (I think) £8

For the price, I think I'll probably pick up the first 3 weekly issues (don't really care about Pox Walkers, but cheap Primaris and DG are nice, even if they're static models.
