As you can see, there's something weird going on with the padding on the rotate tag (any ideas?) but I'd been trying to figure out how to make rotated text without an image for my Ewrimo badges post for months, so it's still a very welcome trick.

  By the way, I tried to flip a whole table and that didn’t work! Probably only works on simple things, and that makes reasonable sense to me.

Yeah, I tried it on the horizontal rule tag, hoping it would make some sort of frame, and it didn't work.

If I'm remembering what I learned in that html class I took years ago right, what it works on may have something to do with being block vs inline elements and the way the CSS rotate tag works, or maybe just the way it was implemented in BBCode.

The CSS rotate tag defaults to the center as a rotation point, which is probably why the rotated text isn't padded the way I'd otherwise expect.

  I’ve always felt that the best shot we have at table borders is by resizing an image of the border color we want. So let’s experiment starting with the black 100 px × 100 px image to the right. I picked a GIF^* because the file size is only 109 bytes including the 17 characters ‘Created with GIMP’ which can be eliminated.

	Inside the table.

  So to the left is a 3 row × 3 column table with the resized GIF in the center top and bottom, middle left and right cells. I used 5 px for thickness and 100 px for length.

  This tells me that there’s margins inside the table that cannot be overcome. If you want this image, I’ll downsize it to 10 px × 10 px and upload t to the wiki.

  <Nerd Alert> A quick look at the CSS for tables at https://www.w3schools.com/css/css_table.asp suggests that BB Code could support table and table data borders. Vekseid would have to weigh in on the feasibility and the value of such an extension.</Nerd Alert>

Love all the tips everyone has given so far! Some great teachers out there! Sometimes though, teachers have to be taught, which begs the question: Who teaches the teachers how to teach?

Don't hurt your brain, this isn't a trick question. The answer is: Anyone who knows something they don't. I was pointing something out to a certain sexy blonde, who's name shall go unmentioned, but rhymes with cheffy, and it brought up a question I never even thought about: How did you that? What was that? This:

circling stuff

There are multiple ways to circle, underline or point to things that people may not have noticed, and your methods may vary. I do everything on an android device, and for something like this, I just do it the quick and dirty way, since time is a precious commodity in my house.

So, first I just did a screenshot of of the post I wanted to use. With an android, you just hold two buttons together at the same time, (i.e. power and volume), and it takes a snapshot and sends it to your gallery. PC's have a "Print Screen" button on the keyboard for such things.

Then I just opened up the screenshot from my gallery, clicked the edit button, and simply used a paint brush to circle, point to, or underline whatever I need to using just my finger. Not pretty, but it's quick and gets the job done. Then you just save it, upload it to whatever sharing service you use and voilà.

Note: threat of a certain body part being put in a "ringer" was made, to compel me to post this here. *wink*

I was recently asked by a member where did I find the images that I sent them and my answer was: search engines.  I also included a short tutorial, and they suggested I shared it with a wider audience, which I will be doing right now.  So, without further ado, I present to you:

Al's guide to searching for smut

Disclaimer: the links below will contain explicit imagery, reader discretion is advised.
(OK, that was a little ado, but now we can get back to the subject).

When searching for images, I usually use the following three search engines:

• DuckDuckGo
  
• Yandex
  
• Google

There are other search engines, but I find that the combination of those three gives me good results.

The links for Yandex and Google go directly to the image search page of the corresponding sites.
For DDG, it is not possible to link to an image search page directly, so one must either search on their "general" page and then click on the "images" tab, or include the term !i (bang i) in the search string.

Both DDG and Yandex have a "family/safe" filter with three levels of filtering: strict, moderate, and off, which can be changed using a drop-down on the search page.

Google, unfortunately, has only two settings: strict and moderate.  It is still possible to get unfiltered results on Google, but only if it decides that the user is specifically searching for adult images, based on the terms of the search.

For example, searching DuckDuckGo for images of Denise Milani (a "glamour model") with "safe search" set to "off", results in some quality boobage, while a similar Google search shows no nips in sight.

However, as I mentioned above, Google can be coerced to do better by including "unsafe" search terms the query, such as nude, naked, porn, et cetera.  So changing the query to Denise Milani nude provides more relevant results.

However, the word "nude" in the query above not only disables the nanny filter, but also serves as one of the search terms, which may not necessarily be our intent, as it will only return results from web pages where all three search words are present.  Luckily this problem can be overcome it by using the "OR" advanced search keyword.

Let's have a short detour to explain how Google treats the search terms.  If I search for cat dog, Google will try to find results matching both "cat" and "dog".  If I want to search for either, I would write cat OR dog, or the equivalent cat | dog.  Now what if I wanted to search for results that must match "cat" but can optionally match "dog" as well?  I could write cat cat | dog as my query, which means: search for results matching "cat" as well as either "cat" or "dog".  But since the word "cat" was already present in the query unconditionally, it will make Google search for "cat", giving a slight boost for results that match "dog" as well, but not requiring that match.

Likewise searching for Denise Milani nude | Denise on Google, will match "Denise" and "Milani" and use the presence of the term "nude" to disable the filtering, without adversely affecting the search.  For this particular search the results are only slightly different from the above, but in the general case they are usually more accurate.

Those three sites have something else differentiating them that also depend both on which browser one uses. How much they track your love of porn.

DuckDuckGo is all over privacy. They pull and scrub results from Wikipedia, Bing, Yandex, and Yahoo. They try to lead the way with privacy there, so this is close to the best you can get, short of using DDG with the most private browsers Brave or Tor. I use Brave with the default search engine DDG. Tor is a pain and I’m not that paranoid. There are higher privacy rated search engines, yet those are obscure.. Read here if you’re interested – https://restoreprivacy.com/private-search-engine/

Yandex I know little about. I know DDG pulls from Yandex and then scrubs for privacy. I’ll stick to DDG and its scrubbing.

Google is probably the best and also least private, especially if you use it with Google’s own Chrome browser. Google make money by selling what they know about your searches. And if you’re searching for skirts and blouses instead of nude models in lewd poses, you may appreciate the focused adds you’ll see by allowing Google to profit off your fetish.

Like I said above, I browse with Brave and primarily use DuckDuckGo – semblance of privacy for my fetish needs. I am going to look at those other search engines listed above DDG at https://restoreprivacy.com/private-search-engine/.

OK, what happened here?  The padding is included for placing considerations, so the actual image is effectively shifted down by 10 pixels, and in order for the text to line up, we have to likewise shift it down by the same amount.

Adding a pixel scaled to a height equal to the padding amount fixes the positioning.

Interestingly, it is also possible to specify font sizes in pixels rather than points.  Through some trial and error I determined specifying a pixel size of approximately 70% of the padding amount achieves similar results to the above.

One last thing: you probably noticed that when I added the padding, the image got shifted to the right as well as down.  This is because the padding is added all around the image.  If you want to avoid that, you will need to use tables, which have already been extensively covered in this thread.


To summarize:

In order to vertically align text with a padded floating image without using tables, use a transparent image of the same height of the padding amount, a blank line with a point size of half that, or a blank line with a pixel size of 70%.

The downsize of the padding attribute inside the img tag is that it’s applied to all sides of the image. To get it to apply to only one side, use a table. And the best example I have is the floated image with caption I use for Jaclyn in this very post. Linking to a topic is simple.

But wait, there's more!  Turns out that we can create anchors ourselves and link to arbitrary locations inside posts!  How cool is that?
There are two ways to do that, one using the [anchor] tag, and the other using the [anch] tag.


[5a] The [anchor] tag assigns an anchor to some text.  For example, this post starts with:

which appends the prefix "post_" to create an anchor named post_hello.
Then, an "internal" link to it would be: #hello (the rest of the URL is implied to point to the same page).
Note that I wrote "#hello" rather than "#post_hello".  This is because the forum automatically appends the "post_" prefix if the URL contains only an anchor.  Yes, it caught me by surprise and I had to edit this post.

Linking inside a post in a different thread is just as easy, except that more of the URL parts must be specified.  For example:

[5b] The [anch] tag is very similar to [5a], with some minor differences.  Firstly, the anchor name cannot include numbers or special characters (so for example "part3" will not work, but "partthree" will).  Secondly, the anchor created has a different prefix ("user_" instead of "post_"), and thirdly it comes with another tag, [link], that simplifies linking within the same page.
So if the end of this post looks like this:

[6] If a thread is relatively short (less than 10 pages I believe), it has an "All" option next to the pages links to display all the posts on one page.
A link can achieve the same effect by appending ";all" to the thread address.  For example:
Link to the entirety of the thread: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=300188;all

And the fun part is that this also works with anchors.  For example:
Link to message #14697198 in the entirety of the thread: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=300188;all#msg14697198
Link to the 2nd part of message #14762028 in the entirety of the thread: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=300188;all#post_part2

Unfortunately this does not work with longer threads (likely to minimize server load).  More on this later.


[7] In addition to the "All" link we discussed in [6], there are two more special links next to the pages selection: "Go Down" on the top and "Go Up" on the bottom, which will bring you respectively to the top or the bottom of the current page.  How do they do that?  Using anchors of course!  They are named "#top" and "#lastPost", and just as any other anchor, it can be used in our links.  For example:
Link to the first post in Monkey:  https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=300188#top

That was easy, but how do we link to the last post in a thread?  (Actually, the bottom of the last page, but it's close enough.)
If the thread is finished, locked or otherwise unlikely to gen further posts, we can point to the last page: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=153845.10675#lastPost
If the thread is not expected to pass 10 pages, we can use the "all" trick: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=300188;all#lastPost

But what if it's a long and active thread like this one?  What do we do then?
We cheat!


[8] If we try to specify a page number which is higher than the last page in the thread, the last page will be used instead.  Since no thread is likely to have more than 99,999 pages (about 2.5 million posts), we can use 99999 as a surrogate for the last page.  For example:
Link to the last post of this thread: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=290221.99999#lastPost


[9] And finally, if we want a link that will take the person to the first new post in a thread since they last visited it, we can use a special combination of a ".new" specifier and a "#new" anchor.  Like this:
Link to a new post in Monkey: https://elliquiy.com/forums?topic=300188.new#new

Figuring out how the "new" options interact with others is left as an exercise to the reader.
