Glow-in-the-dark neon?

Well, it is based on Twilight, right? So sparkling or glow-in-the-dark might work for that. >.>

Dark red, if that one excerpt is anything to go by.

Could luck out and have a screenwriter/director pairing that actually makes a good movie out of shit material. Wouldn't be the first time.

Coming this summer. 50 Shades by David Fincher. Starring Stoya and Mark Wahlberg. (Cause he's already played a pornstar!)

You know what, I'm kinda glad this book got big. It must be crap, I'm sure, but now there'll be a shitload of other BDSM themed books publishers will push out to ride the wave. And some of them is bound to be good. I mean, we got good vampire books after Twilight came out, right? Right, you guys? R... okay.  ???

The only problem with even a good Fifty Shades of Gray movie: people interested in the theme would probably be better off just watching Secretary instead. Granted, that's a pretty weird story in its own right...

Edit: wow. I'd forgotten the dominant character in Secretary is named E. Edward Grey.

It's...it's such a perfect coincidence.

The stories even have the socially dysfunctional character parallels going on.

Shjade

With the major difference that in Secretary the dysfunction isn't treated as normal; they're aware of their flaws.

And that is part of what makes the story intriguing and somewhat believable.

Just read an interesting article - I can't say I agree with all of the comments in the follow-up, but the article poses an interesting question:

If it weren't for the fact that an age is given, would you believe that the main character is actually 21?  Or even late teens?

No.

A running theme in the reams of bad reviews listed on Amazon is the disbelief that the main character is a 21 year old college student, and that she talks (and acts) more like a 12 year old.
"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."  Sir Roger Bannister

I just finished reading this trilogy and was less than impressed. I found the characters to be exceptionally juvenile for their ages and it paints people who are interested in BDMS or D/s as being mentally defective in some way. I shudder to think how the movie will portray that. Truly, I'm amazed at the widespread success of these books.

The article is dead on in my eyes. That is exactly what has been bothering me so much.

Something else driving me nuts is that fans of the series idolize Christian Grey because he's hot and doing these things. Being gorgeous doesn't give you a free pass to do horrible things. If he wasn't hot, they would find it much creepier, I'm sure.

You mean, like this guy? (totally safe for weak stomachs and those at work.  Mind the coffee/monitor interface, though.)

Then again, you never know. There's really a remarkably big fangirl base for Frollo, from the Disney adaptation of Hunchback. he's like a million years old, controlling, possessive, and for some crazy reason, there's a ton of girls out there who are really into that...

Yes, yes it does.  THAT'S what scare me more.  That women, grown women, would let a men 'stalk' them because they're 'hot'.

The double standards humanity has (and this applies to both genders) is disgusting and frightening.

It does, actually. Exhibits abound on your local lifestyle channel.

.. yeah. People DO get free passes for being gorgeous, I guess what I meant is that they really shouldn't. It is horrifying that people will go "No, no. You're allowed to do all these terrible things, because you're so hot."

... when the movie comes out, is it going to be constantly narrated over by Ana's constantly running inner monologue? Tons of "Oh geez"s and "Holy crap"s constantly running over the sex scenes? Then it might actually be sort of funny.
