I didn't see another post on this.

I don't know what to say.

I do know I'm going to curl up in my living room, put "Walk the Line" and 8mm on repeat, and sink into my mantra: I refuse to believe, I refuse to believe, I refuse to believe.

Oh good god... :-[

He has all the look and symptoms of a full-scale burnout. Someone in Hollywood didn't treat that guy well enough, and it's a shame because he's a killer actor. My mother is a big Joaquin Phoenix fan, in her mid 60's she's a fan of these guys that go against the grain, and also loves Sean Penn movies. She is a huge fan of Walk the Line.

And I'm a big fan of Gladiator because he gave us one of those immortal villains we all love to hate. One can only hope he's going through a phase and will come around soon.

Another reason not to do your own knuckle tattoos.  Even if it is probably cruddy ballpoint.

Self-inflicted knuckle tattoos only really worked for "Joliet" Jake Blues.

I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Most things do when you're under the influence. That's my brother's take on him; that he's got a drug problem.

Who cares about Joaquin.... what about the naked girl on the wall behind him!

No really, I love him, but I suppose he's one of those troubled, tragic types. Oh, to be a miserable Hollywood star... *eyeroll*

And I thoroughly enjoyed Walk the Line. Not sure which actor's singing I prefer, Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line or Jonathon Rhys Meyers' This Time in August Rush...  yeah that was off topic sorta but whatev. *grins*

Well, OK, here's the latest 'update'.

OK, I know people get disillusioned all the time, and as a result they sometimes turn on a dime with a career and go elsewhere.

But I've learned to listen to that little voice in the back of my mind; the one that often gets it right. Phoenix is first and foremost a veteran actor...and right now that little voice is saying he's full of shit.

QuoteMy experience afterward was I had a lot of dudes come up and say, `We really respect you for doing it, putting yourself out there, and going with it.'

Right. Translation:

'It's really hard to have the balls to get on stage in front of a bunch of people and suck that bad.'

Right. Most people aren't going to tell him he sucks simply because he is Joaquin Phoenix.

Oh yeah, this is my favorite part.

Quote"It sucks that, yeah, the footage is out there as like this incredibly bad sound, and you literally can't hear what's happening," said Phoenix, who still has his bushy beard. "It was much better in the club, and I don't know who said that people were booing ... because that was not happening.

Riiiiight.

QuoteMIAMI BEACH - Joaquin Phoenix appears to be getting in the act of being a petulant hip-hop star.

Early this morning he jumped off the stage during a short performance at a Miami Beach nightclub and confronted an audience member. Security guards dragged Phoenix back onstage and escorted him away.

It's unclear whether the confrontation -- and his pledge to quit acting and start rapping -- was real or a put-on. Actor and brother-in-law Casey Affleck, who has been recording a documentary on Phoenix's entry into the music business, captured the performance on camera.

In October, Phoenix's publicist confirmed he was making the career switch. In January he performed at a Las Vegas nightclub and the next month he made a strange appearance on David Letterman's "Late Show." Actor Ben Stiller lampooned that appearance at the Oscars.
