It hasn't been thirty years since General Gaius Talonius, your father, had finished the campaign that drove the demonic hordes back through the Great Rift and back into the Abyssal plane before sealing the gate behind them.  By doing so, he ended a war that went on for well over a century that pressed every living creature on Viemera to the brink of annihilation.  The whole of the material realm rejoiced once General Gaius Talonius and the United Viemeran Legion returned victorious.  They had become the symbol of hope and the unified strength of whole nations who banded together to end the blight that threatened their very existence.  For the first time in history, peoples of all lifestyles and heritage were banded together under a single banner.  The ruling class honored Gaius’ successful campaign by elevating him among them, entitling him as a noble along with all the benefits that came with it.  Thus, the House of Talonius was born.

It wasn’t long after the dust settled and society begun to get back on its feet before the other noble houses returned to their ways of political backstabbing as all the resources and territory that had been lost over the course of the war became up for grabs.  What took decades to bring to reality crumbled in only a few short years after the war and the realm was once again divided.  Gaius himself became nothing more than a symbol of status for the nobles who associated with him, a mere trophy to be displayed.   As a career soldier, Gaius quickly grew wary of the political lifestyle as his attempts to reunify Viemera failed as horribly as his attempt to get the noble houses to put aside their petty quarrels to help the people within their borders who were undergoing immense hardships to resettle the war torn lands.

Though the demons were cast back to their realm their taint yet stains the land, corrupting the various creatures who are especially attuned to nature magic.  The Fey and Magical Beasts of the land were hit the hardest, their very behavior twisted by Abyssal's lingering influence.  Most were corrupted by demons of wrath, filling them with the insatiable desire for bloodshed.  Others became influenced by the demonesses of lust, turning them into sex crazed creatures who feed off their victim's soul through the most intimate of acts.  Many still were corrupted by demons representing the other five vices; envy, gluttony, pride, greed, and sloth who pose a threat to the vulnerable societies in their own way.

Eventually, Gaius set it upon himself to use his title to help the commoners.  His house may have been elevated to that of noble status, but much of that was in title alone.  It did come with a generous purse from the collective nobility, but he later found that was as a means for him to provide himself the luxuries necessary to fill the appearance of the upper class.  Since he didn’t have the wealth or influence to help the people politically, he set out to do so with his bare hands along with a few dozen individuals who had served with him in the war and had earned their undying loyalty.  The next several years, your father and his followers lived the life of an adventurer, traveling from location to location providing help to the locals however possible.

Gaius never took a wife, which was a concern to his loyal companions once he was in his late forties.  They were well aware of the fact that Gaius was the last of his bloodline and, unless something was done, his legacy would fade away with him.  In light of all the good he had done, they could not let this be.  Even when his friends pressing the issue hard upon him, Gaius was set upon his decision not to wed claiming that there was still too much work to be done to allow himself to be tied down by a family.  Eventually, they managed to reason with him and work out a compromise.  Gaius still refused to marry and make a legitimate line of succession, but he agreed to take on concubines to allow his bloodline to flourish.  A side effect of a portion of his attention going towards building a family, he had developed a soft spot for children who had been orphaned through rough times in the unsettled lands or because of the war.  Every one of his children was given a unique signet ring of his house that could only be worn by the recipient, regardless if they were his through blood or adoption.

It became more difficult for the aging man to move to the next hamlet knowing that he’d be forced to leave his offspring who were much too young to join him in his travels.  Knowing that the adopted orphans would have nobody once he left, he saw to it that a local whom he had grown to trust in his short time there took them into their homes until the time came where he would be able to provide a home for them.  Ultimately, Gaius knew that the villagers would be much better at raising his young in a way where they will be able to find their own place in life rather than feel pressured to follow in the footsteps of their father.  As time progressed, he would find himself yearning to see the type of people they become once they come to age.

As he had expected, the accumulating heartache that came with leaving his young behind in order to help another community in need became too great to continue his mission.  By that time he was well in his sixties and Gaius knew that the oldest of his children born from his own seed would be coming to age in only a few short years, to say nothing of those whom were already a few years old when he adopted them.  The burden of his lament finally became too great for his shoulders to bear, so he set about finding a place to set his roots with his comrades at his side.  Once word of his intentions spread to the noble houses, they set about doing everything they could to indoctrinate him into their social circles to reclaim their long lost trophy and hero of the people.  That environment would have been entirely unappealing in of itself, but Gaius couldn’t imagine the hardships his ‘illegitimate’ children would suffer should they become immersed in that world of treachery and deceit.

Gaius already had a place in mind and much to his delight it still remained in the unsettled portions of the frontier.  Unclaimed and forgotten by all but a small number, most of who were had been traveling with him since the war.   After a few days travelling through thick brush and wilderness from the upstart port town of Doroga, they finally reached their destination.  A large clearing in the tree line where plant life had finally begun to sprout in the land that had seen a lot of heavy traffic sometime in its history.  Though the thing that made the location so precious was the broad path that led from the clearing into the side of a large, steep earth formation that was too small to be considered a mountain, but to call it a hill would be greatly underrating its scale.  And its precious contents.  Halfway up the side of the earthworks was a yawning opening framed by massive timbers that could only have been made of whole tree bases.  The tunnel of the Dwarven mine had apparently collapsed sometime during the war, but as far as his years of research had suggested, it was still very rich with mithral.  That was where Gaius decided to carve out a territory under his own name, as is his right as a noble, and named his new home Garados to match that of the mine.

Over the next few years, the clearing had grown into a village of a little over a hundred people that only continued to expand.  Thanks to Gaius' leadership, the community flourished and managed to make it through those first critical months without the life threatening hardships that were common among new frontier settlements.  Many of the villagers who had relocated to Garados were from the very villages Gaius had helped.  He had seen to it that one of the first things accomplished was to make a rudimentary roadway connecting Garados to Doroga to help encourage the arrival of new settlers as well as making travel time between them significantly quicker and easier.  At present, the roadway is just barely wide enough for two wagons to pass one another as long as one of them pulled to the side.  The town doesn't have much in the way of wealth yet, but they have all the necessary artisans to provide the basics for the village.  Carpenters and stonecutters are highly valued at present in order to keep up with the constant demand of new homes; fortunately they have most of the materials they need for the job readily available.  For the sake of productivity and accomplishing two purposes at once, Gaius saw to it that the demand for stone was obtained from the collapsed mine.  Even if the amount used was hardly a drop in the bucket needed to get the mine functioning again.

Mere months before Gaius intended to send word to his scattered family as a means of inviting them to what he had hoped they would accept as their new home and legacy, Gaius Nero Talonius, hero of The Great War, passed away when his heart gave out.  His only regret upon going was that he never got the opportunity to see what sort of people his children had become.  What remained of Gaius' purse upon receiving his status all those years ago was placed into the village's treasury and in the care of his second and long time friend, Crassus Antillus.  Crassus didn't hesitate to follow the wishes of his late companion and immediately sent missives to the towns where his heirs resided, inviting them to accept the inheritance their father had left them.  As he had promised Gaius when he had first convinced him to establish heirs to his house, Crassus would serve as advisor to the heirs of House Talonius.

First off, I want to thank you for taking the time to read all of that and I hope this story piqued your interest.

As far as how I see this RP playing out, there will be an abundance of quests and side-quests waiting to be taken up.  I plan on making this game lean more towards character/NPC interactions with still plenty of combat and dungeoneering to keep things interesting.  While still plot driven, I think it would be fun incorporating a nice amount of naughtiness along the way (especially once I start introducing the lust influenced creatures).  There is no need to feel squeamish if you are turned away at the idea of incest since most of you are "related" in the very broadest sense and being adopted by him has more to do with allegiance/affiliation than anything in this worldspace.  And I will of course be supplying an abundance of NPCs should that still deter you.

As a sort of mini-game, the village of Garados is self-sustaining but is not yet making much in the way of income.  I'm leaving it up to you as players to find ways in helping the village grow through trade and immigration.  Doing so will not only provide your characters with a regular allowance/income as the village profits and grows, but it could also lead to more unique rewards down the road.  However, the opposite can also occur should you make powerful enemies along your journeys or if your decisions bring about detrimental effects for the citizens of Garados.  For all intents and purposes, it's your town to run as the group sees fit.  Furthermore, the mine is still blocked off and it will be a good while until it is up and running again; this process could be expedited or hindered based upon your actions.

More often than not, fellow nobles will view your characters with the same contempt they would with any bastard child of nobility.  That is not to say they cannot be swayed into friendly terms, but don't be surprised when they address you with the mightier than thou attitude they reserve for all commoners.  Meanwhile, your reputation among common people can ranges widely.  Some instinctively view all nobles as being born with the physical disability of having their heads stuck up their own asses, and for the most part their instincts haven't let them down.  Others, especially certain frontier towns, hold you in a higher regard than most.  Though people in general will see you as somebody who has potential to live up to your father's legacy, but have yet to do so.

Character creation information:
-Overall party size of 4-5 proactive players.
-Anything in the Pathfinder SRD is fair game, except for 3rd party stuff and psionics.
-Feel free to choose any race you want, and if you have something more exotic in mind feel free to send me a PM and see if we can work something out.
-Your characters will all be heirs to Gaius Talonius, though they need not be born of his seed.  Thus, any petition for a non-human race must be orphaned and adopted.
-Age for bloodline heirs range from 16-21, age for adopted children range from 16-30. (Or race equivalent)
-Level 6 starting.
-4d6 standard, pick six of seven rolls, reroll 1s and 2s.
-Max HP at first level, then half +2 for the other 5 levels.
-16k starting gold.
-Up to 2 traits, as long as they are incorporated into your character's bio.
-One item that every character needs, and comes free with the character, is a Talonius signet ring.  This item is magically linked to you and cannot be worn by any other.  Starting out this ring has no enchantments upon it, but that will change as we progress through the game.

Callie Del Noire

Rose Ironsheild
Female Half-Elf Fighter 6
Height: 6'2" Weight: 160 Hair: Black Eyes: Blue Age:24

Background: Rose remember little beyond being left with her foster father as a young child. He raised her as best he could, and she learned the art of the smith. To stoke a fire till her arms burned from exertion, shovel coal and carbon to keep the heat up to temper blades. To work on the straps of armor, grind an edge on blade or work as a farrier for her foster father. The only thing she had to tell her of her true father was a signet ring and a promise that when the time came she would be called for. She listened to tales of warriors and how thee strength of arms won back her world.
She served with her village's militia and learned the way of the blade as her father taught it. She could hold her father's hand-and-a-half blade with ease and carry the heavy shield and armor he made for her as it weighted nothing. She learned to fight, how to put a shield and blade to the best effect. She learned to use the bow and mace as well, but favored the bastard sword's heavy blade over any other.
She's done a tour as a merc and a few stumbling efforts as an adventure and had come to the conclusion she's much happier as a merc than a roving adventurer. For now, she works or adventures for a season, returns home to help her father for a season and repeats the cycle again and again.

I am interested, out of curiosity what class setup Gaius Talonius had? Was he fighter? Cavalier? Or a paladin? Also I assume with non-human you mean completely non-human related races (like dwarves, elves, halflings and so on). So with this assumption I assume a tiefling from his seed would count as blood related heir, but if I am wrong and if below scenario does not fit your concept for the great man I can edit my background.

Gilbert Dhae'khul
Class: Bard 5/Pathfinder Chronicler 1
Occupation: Traveling Minstrel and author, also a scholar who has reputed to be goofy or crazy genius
Race: Tiefling (daemon spawn; Erodaemon offspring)
Relation to Gaius Talonius: By blood
Feats: Fiendish Heritage (roll results; 84, 81 and 37, taking Death Knell 1/day, fits to ancestry concept), Weapon Finesse, Dervish Dance
Traits: Maestro of the Society, Heirloom Weapon (Scimitar)
Background: Tale of Gilbert takes on several years back into distant past. To time when Gaius Talonius was on his fourties. He was seduced by a woman called Birgite Goldblade, a fair maiden of virtue who adventured alongside of him. They grew very close, even up to intimate level. But not him nor none of the party suspected that Birgite was actually daemon in disguise, a daemon called Calish.

Calish became pregnant with Gaius child, one among his first what he fathered in that time. As erodaemon Calish sought out send Gaius into heartbroken stage, destroy his heart. So she showed ultimate betrayal which nearly led Gaius and his friends killed and when he confronted her after she had given birth to the child and then revealed her true form and with wicked glee she fought on Gaius but she was not serious at all; she mocked and plucked poisonous warped daggers to his heart just words alone which drove Gaius beyond angry; a undisputed wrath was more correct term to coin it. Making Gaius despise Calish and everything about her and also by her taunts; also offspring they had created and make Gaius think young Gilbert was abomination which carried his seed.

Gaius eventually succeed slain her in combat but she returned only to her home dimension, with angry scowl which turned to grin when she waited with hungry sultry smile in daemon dimension for Gaius perform deed what she secretly had taunted him to do; slay his own son. She knew him well; so well that such deed would drive him beyond unmeasurable despair and heartbreak and so she can suck his rich soul which makes hundred year banishment to her own dimension worth long while! Gaius was in material plane proceeding do exactly that; driven by rage and sorrow from seeing all love had been false and driven to destroy any trace of the union with such wicked creature! So when Gaius had lifted his blade his friends voices finally reached him and he realized in critical last moment what he was about to do, and years later realize what Calish had tried to do in first place and feel very grateful for his friends words since then.

Gaius did not slay the tiefling child, despite carrying blood of evil he carried blood of mortal and so had mortal soul which has just more better chance led evil if provoked to such path. So he send the tiefling child to a monastery where humble monks who did not look on race nor heritage of the child and raised him as one of them own. The child became skilled scribe who hungered for adventure and altough bullied in youth he learned cope it with his natural agility and sharp witty tongue and accept the fact that he is tiefling and no force in universe can change it for now on him. Only years later tiefling child learned about his father when he received the ring along with message he may be summoned some day.

As child Gilbert felt offended his own father never paid visit to him! He had thinked up to that point he was orphan with no parents but he had a father! He tried several times escape but monks had expected it and so were prepared for escape attempts. But Gilbert then decided that if he cannot escape meet his father; he then tries lure him to him! So using all his creative cunning he wrote series of books which he secretly published under ghost writer name 'Red Fox'. The series of books were well written detailed tales of Gaius Talonius but instead sticking to facts or classic heroism they were mockeries of the true tales. Jokes, humor and mockeries filled the books and back in time many angrily demanded know who was Red Fox who tried discredit Gaius.

Gaius did not care about the books but one his friends did and investigated the matter, then upon hearing the truth who had wrote the book then Gaius picked one the books and read it for most people's shock....and probably laughed more than in many years in his travels! Eventually collecting the whole series of the mockery tales which were meant to ire or lure him to face Gilbert instead kept him amused for years to come until Gilbert grew out from that habit. Unaware how much effect his books had got on Gaius or that in way he had contact with him more than most children. Upon graduation from monastery he devoted his life then tracking treasures and tales across the lands, a bit eccentric and easily excited invindual who is more often than not doing some silly investigation. Also knowing his appearance causes grief he usually goes around disguised best as he can but with close friends and those who know him he dispels his disguise. Facing the scorn, fear and resent from other people with smile and grace and win them over with his skilled performance which lifts hearts and minds.

Gaius was a Cavalier class.

You are right in your assumption that any race that is half-human can be of Gaius' bloodline, though there is an issue with tieflings being such.  A lot of it has to do with the timeline in that the demons have already been driven out of Viemera years before he started making his family.  Though another issue is that he would kill any Abyssal creature loooong before he considered mating with it, not to mention the great measures his guards went to to prevent a demon getting so close. However, it is inevitable that demons of lust would have created a fair number of tieflings over the span of the invasion. Just be warned that the general populous lothe anything demonic as a whole, what with their attempted genocide, so if you insist on playing that race be prepared for that or at least to be good at disguising your demonic attributes.

Actually, give me a little while to ponder on the idea. See post below.

We have room for one more character, I recommend you have somebody that is able to disable locks and traps, whether it be with tools or their face.  It doesn't necessairly have to be a rogue character since you can just drop ranks into Disable Device, or you could always have a tank take point with healing spells/potions handy.

The thing about Teiflings (and Aasimar) is the 'taint' doesn't always show up in the 'next generation' so he could have a human lover and the child would be a teifling though mom and dad weren't. It's kind of insidious like that.

That's close enough, if you want she can be the first of his children born from his seed.

Ooooo, now that is an idea I like.  Gilbert can still be a teifling, but revise the background a bit.  I'll leave it up to you whether the mother was a teifling herself, or was simply affflicted by The Blight that is afflicting the land, but would prefer is he was born after the war around the same time as the rest of his children.

Or use summoned minions to break up trapped chests :P. However I could take the more roguish variant of the bard (archeologist subtype) so he could disarm traps and such but have the wit and charm of a bard.

But perhaps Gilbert's mother was the few remaining daemons (majority does not mean neccesary all or her mother had been expectional). Of course during the actual conflict era they could had been toes about demonic seducers but perhaps when Gaius was in his forties and after sealing demons away then that was reason why Gilbert's mother succeed get close in first place (their guards were down and there had not been sigthings of demons, devils or daemons for years and mother had been hiding all this time).

I would like play a bloodlined heir of Gaius but I also want that Gaius have 'orphaned' Gilbert specifically by killing his mother. So making her mother a daemon made sense while I cannot think any reason why Gaius would even kill any other woman, not to mention able to be send such a rage he nearly drived himself kill Gilbert before he became his senses and realized what he was about to do.

Also I liked to think Gilbert's exchistence is egual to Gaius salvation, as if erodaemon had succeed make Gaius kill his own child he would had died heartbroken man and his soul would had been automatically consumed by erodaemon who feeds on men who die by heartbroke created by erodaemon. Of course technically Gilbert should be half-fiend but I am not willing pay such hefty price play one and it would cause more troubles and lynch mob forming than playing tiefling.

Also I am prepared to face angry reception for being revealed as tiefling, that's why Gilbert moves around disguised with illussion so he is not discovered as even if tieflings were result from rapes they just remind of the past events what people do not want to remember. He may be goofy/silly at times (-2 to wis for being daemon-spawn) but he is not stupid (+2 racial int).

Foxfyr

It stands to reason that there will be some demons who have avoided detection and yet wander Viemera. As long as it happened after the war, then I'll allow it.

I had this image of Rose meeting her 'brother' for the first time. Grabbing him by the horn and moving to smite him with a blacksmith's hammer before spotting the signet ring.

It'll definitely make for an entertaining group dynamic.

A very likely response of 90% of the family towards Gilbert :P. That's why he shows ring first and then horns.

Anyways yes, the whole seduction and birth of Gilbert occured after the war. It occured during time when Gaius traveled with his old band and helping communities recover from the war while nobles pickered with each other and backstabbed. Gilbert's mother joined the group as adventuress form one community as skilled archer and she worked into Gaius heart with her charm, grace and virtue with her skilled lies and acting and then after she got pregnant she betrayed (as human) the group to some enemies which nearly killed them.

In final confrontation with Gaius and the group she revealed her true form for their shock and then things proceed as I descriped in background. Anyways I like to play as the face guy of the group even if my race heritage is found out I may get lynch mobbed (but that's why I plan invest heavily on social skills and get highly popular artist so that should smooth things out). Very likely Gilbert is the only tiefling child of Gaius and so quite unique case.

Those who have completed a character profile are all accepted.  It will be a short while until we get into our first combat, but if you could fill out a character sheet on plothook or some other site that has an "official" layout for quick and easy reference by that time it would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on having the OOC and IC up sometime tonight regardless if we find a fifth or not.  It'll basically be an opportunity to allow your characters to meet for the first time while on the way to Garados so we can get that formality out of the way.  :-)

Edit: OOC is up, link can be found at top of first post.  Please post your character sheet there.[/url]

Loki, if you're still looking for one more person, may I ask your opinion on the Summoner class before I post something, if it would be allowed or not? I was considering applying with the Synthesist archetype, perhaps a spindly girl that turns the belief and the legend that  surrounds her sire into an armor or a manifestation of what people who knew Gaius would expect an heir to look like?

Callie Del Noire

I think we got the spell crackers down (healer and wizardly types) we need someone sneaky. :D

I have no problem with somebody playing that sort of summoner and it could be interesting having an Eidolon chosen in that manner.  As Callie mentioned, you may want to consider playing a class to fill in one of the group's weakest areas. If you're dead set on the Summoner though, then by all means throw up a CS.  If need be, I'll compensate the group a little bit by making Ehren (a ranger by class) a GM controlled NPC that can tag along on certain missions; just don't get too reliant on him.  ;)

Zaer Darkwail

yeh, Ehren could cover role as stealthy trap disarming type :P. Altough my char knows how to sneak and has decent perception check but he is really the talker/diplomat type.

Ershin

I usually like to fill in missing roles in a group and was originally going to suggest that the eidolon's skills include stealth... but then I reminded myself that synthesists don't get eidolons skills when fused.

After that I started reading up on some stuff on sneaky types, but of the classes that get stealth none really seems to scream "pick me!" to me.  There's nothing inherently wrong with them, but...
I dunno, I'm not really feeling them. if you'd rather have the missing sneaky role filled then I'll politely bow out and allow someone who wishes to do so to have the chance.

Zaer Darkwail

Nah, make summoner and we just abuse GM granted NPC until one of us actually takes rogue levels :P.
