Help me decide on a cheesecake fantasy romp to run

Hello I am Dhi and I am indecisive!!!!!

This summer it would be nice to run a fun little group game. I've had an idea for one brewing, but recently I've realized it has two competing flavors. The game I eventually run will be stronger for favoring one flavor or the other, but because I want them both I can't decide.

If we've written together before you probably know that I only write F/F. I don't plan on making either of these purely lesbian games, but, that is what I personally am interested in writing.

Everyone's A Hero

Welcome, adventurer!

The setting of this group game is a single MMO-style starter town where an endless train of would-be heroes inexplicably show up and take their first steps toward saving the world by chasing rabbits away from the watermelons and learning how to cast ice bolt. It's meant to be a lighthearted farce, resembling an MMO rife with fan service and sex, but I don't want to get too meta with it... this is the real world, no quest icons, no gold sellers, no human players behind the screen. Our world is just naturally incongruous.

All kinds of character archetypes would be welcome, from half-angel orator to drow assassin to heterochromatic bunny-eared summoner of eldritch horrors. The game would flow loosely guided by quest-style events with reality show-style simple objectives, with the ultimate goal of teaching your would-be heroes the very basics of trouncing ooky spiders and taking their loot.

Jade Dragons & Hungry Ghosts

A Wuxia fantasy with a risque aesthetic of Korean cheesecake, loosely inspired by epics such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Grandmaster, Journey to the West, and Bioware's Jade Empire. We would play fast and loose with the source material, so anyone unfamiliar with Wuxia and nonwestern fantasy should feel comfortable stepping in without needing to do research.

This story bears some similarities to the other, following a cast of young heroes as they arrive at a fishing village on the bamboo coast and stand against the forces of darkness- the very low-ranking and undeadly forces of darkness, such as hopping vampires, lascivious pirates, and ambitious tao sorcerers.

Foxy DeVille

I like the first one, ton of tropes to draw from there.

MrBubbles

The first one sounds great, especially if the whole mood isn't too serious.

Question though, would we be allowed to play the "NPCs?" Like someone handling the village Shopkeeper juggling a thousand orders for longswords while adventurers try to peddle off 100 gp worth of 1 sp herbs, or the local Innkeeper who is getting very tired of the thousandth bright-eyed hero asking for "rumors" and if he's got some rats in the cellar.

wander

I will also vote for the first one, though the second place could be a small area, like an island or some place to the East of the first idea's world.

Will there be some kind of system in place?

Absolutely! The story would flow much better with multiple people heading NPCs. Those are exactly the kind of NPCs we could use.

It will be freeform.

I'd like to get away from detailing the rest of the world outside this tutorial village. A small, self-contained setting should help to keep things focused, and the smaller the better. WoW has a tutorial town that's just a single church. Ours, I'm thinking, should be a single inn, with shops and laboratories and amenities attached.

Crash

My first inclination is for some wuxia Kung-fu action theater, but I could always play a monk or assassin noob in the first one too.  Trying to sneak up on grass snake or spider hatchling and backstabbing it could be fun.

Okay, well if combat occurs, I prefer there to be a system for fairness. Good luck with the game. :)

Crash

Not sure how much PvP would happen here but if it happened to I usually just discuss the outcome with the other player and decide on a mutually agreeable result.

Hmmm I can see my character running to the guards with a train of fuzzy little beasts nipping at her heels.  ;D

I'm confident we can write conflicts agreeable to all parties without consulting a side game of dice. Outside of E I'm happy to run tabletop games for my own group, but on E I've watched hundreds of system games start out on a thrill of character creation and point allotment, then leave the gate on a slow crawl toward a shallow grave.

Agreed.

Hmm playing a cheesecake Hunter or Necro style pet class would be damn funny too.  I may have to do that.  Too many possibilities!

Feisty sexy barmaid!

I'm good for either, but I cast my vote for first, there's tons of comedic potential.
I'm the coolest nerd there is, and I don't care that that isn't an accomplishment.

Why not have a church?  It could be a church, or more of a temple, dedicated to the worship of the goddess of lust, revenge and trickery.

The temple is a source of quests for the characters:

The prostitutes in the temple need new outfits so they can get more "donations."  Go kill some ooky spiders and take their silk.

The wolves around the town are the perfect source for leather.  Go kill some wolves and take their skins as trade items.

The wolves around the town are scaring away potential "donors."  Go kill some wolves and take their tails as souvenirs.

The bandits around the town are scaring away potential "donors."  Go kills some bandits and take their ears as souven... ears.

Then there could be a quest to join the temple.

I am pretty sure the idea was not to recreate an MMO.  Just use the setting of a starter town to create campy hijinx and smuttiness.  Dhi mentioned she didn't want to get all meta with it.

I cast vote also for first scenario (laughs and smutty sexyness is good combo ;)).

Dhi

It's clear which idea is liked, but also that it would become something different from what I'm interested in running. I'm feeling the wuxia much more at this point, but there doesn't seem to be an audience for it. Back to the drawing board I guess!

Ershin

Why not a combination of the two concepts? A Wuxia-inspired MMO starter town?  :-)

Dhi

Too niche I think, it wouldn't have the same strength of being open to all kinds of characters. I would have to ask everyone to make wuxia characters.

Drake Valentine

Well, voting seems close, not that it matters given the original head lead.

Any who, to be honest I imagine a Wuxia fantasy adventure would be more original and appealing. There are too many various, genetic fantasy adventures that pop on and off here; but then again, I was never much for bigger mainstream repetitive types of games.

There isn't that many Chinese mythology base games or games focused on similar such.

I like the Wuxia idea but I am unfamiliar with the term "cheesecake", LOL.
I am working on it, I swear!

Hot babes in skimpy outfits.

Chrystal

Hullo Dhi.

I'd be interested in recreating Anitsha "Nitzy" Longstride, if you'll have me back? I liked her as a character and I liked the cheesecake aspect of the other game - it got too serious in the end I think.

Keep this one light hearted and a little bit silly, and I think it will work!

Dhi

Chrystal, how do you feel about wuxia? I don't think the MMO town story would work out as I hoped, but I'm still thinking about a wuxia group game. A character like Nitzy has some parallels, though the setting works best when everyone is human (and Asian).

I guess it was a 1940s wartime term for the pinup girls... pinups being a form of glamour art... and glamour art being hot babes in skimpy outfits.

Chrystal

I have absolutely no idea what "Wuxia" is!

If someone can explain it in terms that I can understand, WITHOUT me having to watch any videos, then I might be persuaded to become interested...

Cheesecake is a kind of baked dessert made with cream cheese, usually on a crushed biscuit base....

*Smirk*

Okay, okay, I know, that was totally uncalled for.

Yep, as others have said, cheesecake usually refers to "almost-porn" with girls posing in their undies, sometimes topless but usually with a hand concealing the breasts.

Lady Kitsune

LOL, I learn something new everyday. Love it! :p

I don't think you have to watch any videos for Wuxia. Just think old school Martial Arts movies where they fly through the air and do impossible moves and tricks. Sometimes there is a little magic usually involving the four elements or nature. And cheesecake is always good, with or without tops...er toppings!
I am working on it, I swear!
