Clockwork Empires!

(I think this would work much better as a Group Game now that im thinking about it. Yes this is heavily inspired by the game of the same name.)

What a glorious age it is. An age of invention, innovation, exploration. And most importantly, an age of steam. Our great monarchy has decreed it time to sail out and explore the continents discovered more than half a century ago. The other island nations of the world have begun spreading into the new continents as well. With Xylvania, the nation powered by coal, taking the lead and Francia only managing to establish its first colony a year ago.

The great and Powerful Queen Trixie the third has decreed that we should not be left behind. Thus a new regiment of her Majesty's finest are to be sent to one such Colony in order to secure it from the beasties and brigands that beset it and prevent it from expanding as it should. We set out by steam ship and arrive within four months, setting foot on a new land is almost alien to those born and raised on the mother island. The shore the regiment lands on is strange, with ancient ruins scattered about. But at the same time there is a sort of...beauty to the land. The water is clean, untainted by the ravages of the industrial revolution, the skies are blue and the land is healthy and alive. It is no wonder her Majesty wished this place moved under her banner, especially before the Xylvanians took it.

It is an easy trek inland for the regiment, only taking them about half a days march to reach the colony of Odessa. Most of those that lived there had been in the colony their entire lives, with much of the older generation dead or driven mad by the horrible beasts that live on this unexplored continent. The Regiment is surprised to learn that most of the colonists don't even know they had a Queen, and that some of those Natives (the friendly ones at least) live just outside the walls of Odessa for mutual protection.

At first many of the colonists were skeptical and untrusting, especially when the Imperials began putting up posters for recruitment of locals into the newly arrived regiment. But once they see the effectiveness of the new cartridge rifles against the various beasts and the vile Fishmen (Or Deep Ones as the colonists and Tribals call them), the people soften up to them and even welcome the newcomers. Things had changed greatly since the Colony was first set up almost 50 years ago now. In that time the Deep Ones had attacked and destroyed the original colony, forcing everyone to move deeper inland for safety. But it barely helped, with many times the disgusting monsters escaping into the night with women and children, for whatever sick rituals and sacrifices they did to appease their dark gods and their Obeliskian masters. For the most part the more Human like natives never spent time with the colonists, until they rescued the prisoners of the Fishmen, and the colonists found a mutual enemy against the evils on the Continent.

At first the attacks by the Deep Ones, bandits, cultists and other monsters are easy to hold off and the people enjoy the presence of the Imperial soldiers and supplies coming more frequently from the homeland. But over time it has become difficult to hold them off, with one steamship somehow ending up in flames, with no survivors. There always seem to be more cultists worshipping the unnamed one. The monsters push harder and claim more lives and ammunition to their raids, even brandishing new and terrible weapons. The resupply ships cant come fast enough and the Queen expects results from the colonists even with the setbacks, both agriculturally and in the form of minerals from the mines. But with the constant attacks it is difficult to do so. Its a miracle the Mines haven't been sabotaged yet.

But now the raids are coming more often, it seems evil is all around the fledgling colonies, even the native Humans are afraid. The end might be drawing near for everyone. The days go colder, and the tribes that once were proud to live free of a monarchy now more and more seek shelter behind the defenses and city walls. They even ask to work in factories and mining gold in exchange for guns and ammo. They are afraid. They know something is lurking beyond the forests. The guards report things moving at night, and the fish people are migrating. We dig our foxholes, sharpen our bayonets and send messages home for more help, we even send it to the other colonies of Xylvania and Francia. As cruel as the Xylvanian Countess is, even she would heed warning of an encroaching attack, considering how loyal she is to the Kaiser she would not want any harm to befall the colony. But no word comes.

The natives pray and chant, some with tears in their eyes, preparing for what they say is the end of the world, that it is being brought by a dire beast at the head of an army of death. That this was long foretold and nothing would stop it.

And every day it draws closer....its coming for us, that much is sure. On the winds we hear an eery chant and see the Obeliskians moving about. Time is short, the witching hour comes, its time to get the defenses up and keep an eye on the walls.

Soo, this was just an idea I had recently and thought maybe I should post it, see if anyone else likes it.
Hopefully someone who can GM because there is no way in hell that I will GM two games at once. This is a steampunk esque roleplay following the colonization of a new continent that has many horrible Eldritch beings roaming about.

Some good, but more of them either evil or indifferent to the Humans. Things are looking dark for the people of Odessa, and they might become even darker.

Expressing interest.  What kind of game did you see this becoming?  I've got the game and enjoy it quite a bit.  Maybe every week the stuff players put effort towards building gets built, and their actions decide factional relations (i.e.: fishpeople, friend 0r foe?).

The idea of the looming threat kind of adds a nice nudge to it as well.

MistressofPen

Tentatively interested.  Curious to learn you see this becoming.

That would be interesting. not sure how it would be properly pulled off but yes. Work more in the mines and crops and the colony will have more resources. As well as things to offer up for the Queen to send more resources.

Scout around and discover threats before they are ready/new resources and things to use.

Spend time building defenses or helping the natives learn to use the new catridge rifles and such.

As well as discovering the secrets of this new land and finding ancient secrets with which to stop the evil Old Ones from breaking through.
Also cool steampunk gunfights, because that would be awesome. ^3^

Things can be done to appease the fishmen, offering up sacrifices, building totems to the Old Ones and not punishing cultists. But would you want to appease those who only have ill intentions towards you? *dramatic music*

NOTE: You can also create another country for your character to be from, maybe something along the lines of an independent India like island chain allied with the Empire or steampunk Japan opening its borders for the first time. Go all out, we all need some world building. ^_^
