Life on Mars - have the Chinese found the first real signs?

Very interesting - not fully conclusive in any way, but as good a pointer as we're likely to get before there's been some deep digging into the soil over there. And what's even more intriguing is, it's not about something that might have happened four billion years ago an then  gone extinct, but molecules of likely organic origin that are supposed to have been in live organisms less than one million years ago.

Also, the space rock that brought them here certainly came from Mars, and the risk of contamination as it dove down through the earth atmosphere or before it was picked up by scientists seems low.

Hmm I think its still too early to really say much. We need more research and tests I say.  :-)

I'm curious about how something that was once living could remain intact on that meteorite after entering the Earth's atmosphere. Wouldn't whatever was on that rock have burnt up upon entry? I would think that rock would be screaming hot from the air friction?

You would be surprised what microorganisms can survive.
