I do like these prehistory things they are doing with this series because other than the Selene female vampire in leather hotness factor, these movies wouldn't be the same without Viktor and Lucian, IMHO the vampire and lycan patriarchs are the best characters by far.

Oh come on...I'm the only one here that wants to see this???

Marguerite

I want to see it though it could be because of the forbidden romance that piques my interest.

I saw it I won't spoil the plot just to say its BETTER than the first movie, the Lycans really had good reasons for fighting back as you will see, the love interest was well done mirroring one later in the first and second movie I found that interesting. And the vampire lord the grand bastard that started the entire thing shows some feelings for his daughter I thought that was a nice touch. And the ending is very cool it makes it fit in as the really first Underworld movie if watched sequentially I would think.

Overall I would give it a solid B+ for anyone and for fans of the Underworld Movies a A. Don't miss this one!

Belladonna1

Oh, I can't wait to see it!!!
I was a bit dissapointed however, when I read a review that said the sex scenes between Sonja & Lucian were very lame..  Seeing as though Lucian is a Lycan, one would assume that he'd be very wild, feral and Primal with her... (my preference as well!)

So RubySlippers, since you've seen it- were the sex scenes HOT or NOT?
There's nothing inherently dirty about sex, but if you try real hard and use your imagination you can overcome that.   On's & Off's are up!

RubySlippers

There was one scene and it was muted a bit but they ,I would bet, would have an Unrated Version on DVD with that material expanded. But frankly its a small thing compared to the story and excellent work doing a proper prequal.

I don't get it they have these guys ripping each other apart yet a little eztra fun and healthy sex is a no-no in the US, sad. I wanted to see more of the eye candy that actress playing the love interest is a luscious morsel.

Torch

Mmmm, Lucian... *makes yummy sound*

Although it's odd, the actor playing Lucian, Michael Sheen is rather sort of "meh" looking in other roles I've seen him in (most recently in "Frost/Nixon"), but douse him with sweat, a beard and slap on those hair extensions, and...well.....*fans self*

It's Dracula meets The Wolf-man for the twenty first century... besides I think the term is really lycanthrope.
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

Yeah but lycanthrope is bit too much for dinnertime conversation, especially with a mouthful of mashed potatoes. Lycan comes out much easier. :)

I definitely want to see this, but why is it in Elliquiy U?

Where then does it go? These forums are a tad confusing on what they're supposed to be. :-\

Paradox

I was thinking Off Topic, but anyway-- I've never seen any of the Underworld films. Which came first, so I can catch up before this one comes out?

Well you're not supposed to talk with your mouth full. Personally I think it's just people being lazy with English.

Oh hell, I was trying to figure out who was in the role of the painfully-obvious Kate Beckinsale/Selene clone.

Rhona Mitra, one of the former Lara Croft models... This movie's stock just went up a couple points with me.

Belladonna1

I've not seen the first two Underworlds either- apparently this is the prequel which explains how the war between the Vampires and the Lycans started waay back when.....

Yep, and her name is Sonja, she is Lucian's (The YUMMY Lycan Leader) lover - *SPOILER* = and when her evil, mean Vamp daddy finds out, he kills her to keep her from procreating - thus Lucian's rage leads to the centuries of hatred..etc..

-Smiles-

Saw the snatches of what happened to Sonja in the Underworld which meant that in the prequel there would be no happy ending for the couple. Sad.

Diabolus Lupus

I'm gonna try going and seeing it this weekend. I loved the first two movies ans this one looks like it will be filled with action.

Belladonna1

I need to hurry and see it, damnit!  I've been tempted to grab the book each time I see it at the bookstore but know that I should probably see the movie first- so that I won't be disappointed- since IMO, movies are never as good as the books are!

:)

Elven Sex Goddess

I am a big fan of the series.  Having seen the first and then second evolution.   In the Underworld series.   Of course ran to see the third here.  The rise of lycans.

For me it was good,  it stayed true to the first two movies.  But that was the problem.  I knew every thing that would happen. It was like watching a movie for the umpteen time.  Yet it was my first time.  And with the no real special effects that are best suited for the large screen.  I would strongly recommend going to an early bird showing.  Or waiting for dvd.

Back to knowing the movie.  It was like I knew who would die and who would not.  It was like with Anniken.  We all knew he was going to turn to the dark side.  We all knew he get messed up.

Skye

I saw it!!! I LOVE IT! Even if it was expected, there is a prospect of so many more sequels! The ending of the last movie already gives you a prelude to what the next movie will pertain to. They could go on with this for a while. The reigns of Markus and Amelia maybe? <--this is not a spoiler.  *Smirks.*

Bah...I never got the chance to go see it...took the kiddies to see Coraline instead *sighs*

*waits impatiently for the DVD release*

Skye

It'll still be good on DVD. *pats Green's head.*

Scott

I didn't get to see it eithor. I've got Underworld, and Evolution, im in the same boat with Greenie waiting for the DVD.

Mathim

I thought the movies were okay (didn't see ROTL) but I feel like they're overrated. Maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention but vampires and werewolves just feel so cliched and overdone, I don't understand why the whole theme behind them is still so popular.
Considering a permanent retirement from Elliquiy, but you can find me on Blue Moon (under the same username).

Greenthorn

Because some people -like- werewolves and vampires?

Mathim

Well lots of other things contain them and aren't as popular...

They were all right but I know they could have been a lot better. My friend certainly likes them a lot, and it's only because of him that I saw them, but I wouldn't have bought the DVDs myself. The way the story went in the first two, it just doesn't seem like it would make much sense to make the third one a prequel, I guess is what I'm saying. But a lot of people like it; I'm just wondering how much action there is in it compared to the other two. Without being in modern times I doubt they'd have all that fun stuff to kill people with. :P

Greenthorn

Pfffffffffffffffffffffffft

It has werewolves in it...so therefore it is good!

'nuff said!!

;D

Saw it, loved, need to get the boxed set (You KNOW it'll come out in one, come on...)

Lycans always were my favourite out of the bunch.  And I liked Lucian from the first film.

Diabolus Lupus

I went and saw it on V-day with my mom. It was good, they definitely had a good actress playing Sonja.

The only thing that I need to figure out on the movie's time line is where some of the major events fall, cause all the movies seem to have consistency issues.

It takes place near Russia, and I'd assume (Despite the two handed weaponry and stylized armour) that it would take place in the Dark Ages.  Like the 10th century.

Take it like a Superhero Historical Fantasy, where things don't always make sense, but are there for the 'rule of cool'.

I was actually talking about stuff specific to the Underworld world. Like when William was finally locked up? and how soon after that did the elder start the leapfrog thing? and how long after William's imprisonment did Sonja commit her 'betrayal' of the coven? and how long were the elders gone after Lucian's uprising? stuff like that

Transgirlenstein

I didn't see the second one but I think I might go see this.  And I do enjoy vampires and werewolves..especially when they are tearing each other up.  Like those old Universal Studio moveies like House of Frankenstein/Dracula or Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman..love them!

For anyone interested in Vampires and Werewolves there is always the "Twilight" series which I read and thought for being written in 2005 it took a long time to get recognized, but the world started making it where people wanted to see if because it was pop culture, not for the story itself, because it was "cool." There is another series written by Patricia Briggs about the same time dealing with the same types of character called "Preying for Mercy." The great thing about this series is not only does it deal with the same type of character i.e. vampire, werewolves it was written at the same time Twilight was being written. Plus, Patricia Briggs has written more novels and has more experience.
Love can never be forgotten, only lost.

I saw the late showing last night. It was good that they are going back and filling in the blanks. No real pot suprises, if you've seen the first two you know how it ends, but the journey to get there was still good.

The Mercy books are AMAZING!!!!! I love Mercy, Love Adam and Samuel. I love her take on werewolves and the other creepy crawlies, her characters are awesome and fleshed out well.

THe Twilight books are good too but not enough wolf to suit me.. I love the wolves..
