Inspirations - Dresden Files, Merry Gentry, Lost Girl, mythology, faerie tales, a dash of Call of Cthulhu
GM - This girl.  Co-Gm? I'd like one, depending on how many characters we end up gathering and what plot points people want to focus on. If you're interested please send me a PM.
Category - Likely Extreme. Why? I don't really want to because I feel like almost ALL games get lumped into this section and it moves stupidly fast but ... Potential for blood, torture, less/more than human sex (extra appendages, scales, teeth what have you), non-con/mind control, and just generally keeping our options open.
Game Play - Central story driven sandbox.  Participate in wide game events or do your own thing, whatever strikes your fancy.

*General Disclaimer* This game plays fast and loose with world history.  In this alternate reality ALL religions (including capital g God) are constructs and byproducts of a Fae presence and influence on society.  This isn't done to offend anyone or to start any kind of debate, but just to provide a unified framework for the game to operate within.

• Section the Game will be placed in and whether it is a system game or not. -  Non System, in either Extreme or NC: Exotic-Freeform Small Groups depending on player preference. Yeah, after making the first character profile it pretty much has to be Extreme.
• Who is the RP open to? (Gender, Sexuality, etc..?) - Anyone and everyone really.  The Fae have rather liberal views on gender and sexual identity.  Genderless, gender fluid, changeling characters are all very welcome.  All characters are required to have a predominately humanoid form.
• Short Summary of Player Roles and General Story/Plot. - After centuries of warring with each other and partial isolation from the human world the Faerie courts are forced to put their differences aside and unite in order to successfully launch themselves into the murky waters of world politics and stave off possible extinction.  Players will take on the roles of long ago gods, their augmented descendants, and even 'ordinary' humans and will focus on the trials and tribulations of these two very different worlds coming together. 
• Setting.  - Modern Paranormal.  The story will be taking place in Faerie (a magic heavy demi-plane that connects to mortal earth through gates), Isle Royale the small island in Lake Superior purchased from the US in the early 1900's which currently houses the only permanent gate to Faerie, and other locations in the wider world as needed by story.  Until I get a better idea of how many characters there might be in the story it's hard to say how many threads we'll spread this across.  At least two or three with a special thread for large group events.
• Plot Outline.  - Let me explain ... no there is too much. Let me sum up.  Over the centuries Fae have retreated from the world, and have in fact spent the last 100 years in complete isolation.  In order to make a place for themselves in the modern world and save themselves as a species they're relaxing age old rules regarding their dealings with humans, more specifically those with fae blood. Leaving behind old prejudices and grudges is easier said than done however and the path to integrating these new people into Faerie is not a smooth one by any means.  Game focus will include, but is not limited to: finding human descendants and bringing them back to Isle Royale for training and testing (will include both protocol and combat). Introducing Fae items and culture to the world in general.  Courting public favor and political power to wield against an enemy that they'd not recognized having until very recently (a Human faction, which is not available for character play just yet, has been working against the Fae for years, but it was only after a catastrophic attack against Faerie itself that they became truly known).  Healing the wounds of said attack (something that human/fae touched are uniquely suited to). Building a society that blends the best of both worlds.
• Character creation info/guidelines if any. - See annotated character sheet.  Players will be allowed two characters at the start of the game.  One based in Faerie and one based in the mortal world.  These limits might (probably will) increase as the game goes on; there will be a GM post announcing when this might happen.
• Required Resources - None, just a general acceptance and understanding of the material provided in the world building section.   
• Game Pacing - Variable.  There will be multiple threads with time tables that move somewhat independently (time in Faerie works differently than the mortal world).  People who want a faster game pace will be encouraged to participate in multiple scenes, but to be careful to avoid paradox both with their characters and in the location they're writing in (ie no blowing things up if people have already posted being there at a later time).  Time will be opened up in week long blocks and we'll be starting in the fall, think end of September-ish so that Halloween events can coincide with RL and are in theory more fun.
  
  In game Characters participating in central story plots will be considered 'inactive' and their posting order skipped after one week of non-communication (if you post in the ooc about needing a bit more time we'll likely give it to you or work something out).  That being said we won't be having an official posting order, reasonable and prudent my fine people.
• How much sexual activity is likely to occur or expected, if any? - While sex is not the main focus of the game (politics, adapting to a new culture, and character interrelations are) there will be places where it can feature in on the main story.  Group/ritualistic sex, casual nudity, and non consent situations are all likely (though no one should feel that they HAVE to participate in all or any of them).  Sometimes I feel like sex in group games is either the main focus and everything revolves around it or it is shoved back into a dark corner where you can do it if you feel like you have to but it will have no real impact on the characters or the story.  I'd like to think that there is a happier middle ground.  Sex can be a very powerful and primal connection, almost a form of magic in and of itself and the energy it raises can be used to do a few things in the story from unlocking latent Fae abilities to helping recharge the woefully depleted energy stores of Faerie.  Ungh, Rampant are you making this a 'magic vagina chronicles' aka pretty much every Laurell K Hamilton book written after 2002? Gawd no.  Again, no one HAS to go the sex route, there will be other options for achieving the same goals.  If you list Enchanted Genitalia of Power on your character sheet I WILL laugh and then beat you in the not nice way. 
• Whether tagging will be used or not. - So much yes.  I cannot fathom a group game working without a tagging system.  Content warnings will be especially important.  Tagging code will be provided at the top of each thread, but players are welcome to add things to it if they so choose (clothing/theme music/assorted funnies whatever)

Game Master Info / GM(s) Participation Level (If/where applicable)

• Will there be a Co-GM? - Maybe, hopefully, but there isn't one yet.
• How guided will the play be(sandbox, directed etc)? - Guided sandbox is totally a thing right?  I have several world events that will be happening (both in the mortal realm and in Faerie) that players are welcome and encouraged to participate in, but none of them are required. Players are always welcome to 'do their own thing' away from the central story and its branches.  I see one of my main 'duties' as GM to be matchmaker between players to keep the story and game enthusiasm moving along. So I'll generally be trying to steer away from massive GM posts that tell the story (though there will still be some of those :P) and more sending PMs to interested players along the way inviting them to reveal and guide bits of plot and action in the game.
• What extent will players be allowed to create/use environment or setting details?- I very much want to encourage player input into the setting.  Areas will be tagged appropriately as Public (open to anyone) and Private (used by player invitation only). The world at large is open to posting and with magical travel and gates a thing exploring multiple places isn't really a problem.
  
  • How NPC's will be handled? - NPCs are also encouraged and will be divided into three groups.  GM controlled NPCs (characters that only GMs are allowed to post actions/reactions for). Player controlled NPCs (created by a single player they have exclusive control over their actions). And Open NPCs (characters that are available for anyone to use in their posts as long as they stick with the general theme and tone of the concept).
  • How active will the GM be? - Moderately.  Putting up GM/main story posts will be given priority over all other projects.  Scene summaries/thread changes will likely be updated every other week at minimum. My life's generally recovered from a massive case of the ick and I'm here on E every day.  My brain is super in love with this world/story (has been for like the last year and I finally gave in and made a world-building section for it  like two months ago) and I enjoy nothing more than talking about it so please don't be shy with questions.  With the way the story is designed to roll out small periods of GM inactivity shouldn't really be a problem (especially if there is a Co-GM to step in and smooth the edges).
  • Will there be an OOC thread? - Absolutely.  I'm all for chatting be it about game stuff or just general life. Again depending on how many players we get and how quickly the ooc moves I might end up breaking it into two, one for chatting the other for focused game talk, but we'll see!
  • How to contact/approach GM with questions? Whatever your most comfortable with.  My PM box is always open and I'm generally available on IM as well. If asking a game related question in the OOC please bold/highlight/somehow give emphasis to your question so that it is easier to find and respond to.
  • How will decisions be resolved? - I like to think I'm not a heavy handed GM and I try to push disagreements and game changes to a discussion.  That being said there comes a time when a final rule has to be made and I'll make it clear what the ultimate decision is as well as how that might effect past and future game play.   
  • Will PvP be allowed - Not formally, but players are welcome to add and explore rivalries and conflict with their characters.  Above all we're adults here, talk to each other, work out ideas and scenes. If that involves bloodshed, good for you, have fun with it.  Don't be a prick and try to push everything to a harsh combat scenario with everyone you come across though.  There is absolutely no killing/injuring another character without their player's expressed permission.

  • While I support the Oath of the Drake I see no formal need for it.  A generic Bill and Ted 'Be Excellent To One Another' works just as well I think.   Don't be a pud, respect the others involved in the group, and have fun.
  • The On's and Off's section of the character sheet has been expanded somewhat to help players find matches for the particular kinks they are interested in for this game.  That being said communication is still your best friend.  Ask if they're still interested, accept it gracefully if they say no. 
  • Player Participation Expectations. Post when you can, though ideally at least once a week to keep things moving along.  There's no game post tracking or requirements.  If life gets hectic try to drop a note in the OOC about not being around for awhile and we'll do our best to shuffle scenes around so that your character can return as seamlessly as possible when you're ready to write again.  Faerie is a nice little plot device for explaining why people go missing for short or even long periods of time I'm sure we can work something out.   
  • New characters are always welcome and should be easy to bring into the game (there will be a section For New Players explaining options once the game is underway to help everyone get up to speed and involved quickly).     
  • Third person past tense writing please.  Variable length but at least a few paragraphs to give everyone something to work with when responding to your posts.   

So I've wanted to write in a setting like this for what feels like forever, but is more likely the last three and a half years or so.  Similar groups have come up but either timing wasn't right or it didn't have the kind of all inclusive Fae-centric focus I was hoping for.  I started the world building project more to shut my brain up about it than anything else; hoping that once I got it out on paper so to speak I'd be able to focus on other projects.

Nope.

It is all I want to talk about some days much to the dismay of the others in my house.  I need to write in it.  NEED.  And while I could continue to poke at and expand the world building section the world is quite solid in my head (not to mention the notebooks scattered on my desk) and it is time to see if I can convince some of you fine people to play in it with me.

Please feel free to look the setting information over.  While it isn't finished entirely it is rather extensive the glossary of terms and AU History are especially important for understanding where the story is going to go.  If you have any questions or comments here, PM, or the world building thread itself are fine.

I'm more trying to gauge general interest at this point, but if you would like to toss out an archetype, former god, or play-by claim okay by me as well.  If at least a few people voice interest I'm happy to transition into more in depth character discussion.

I'm going to go ahead and put a freeze on any more oracle related characters from the Earth side of things as well as former Unseelie Fae and people who can open general portals between worlds.

Name: Please include previous names/titles as well as nicknames
Archetype/Inspiration: a brief summary of what your character is based on. God, myth, witch, psychic, military, ect.
Race: Generally one of the following - Human, Fae Touched, Half Blood, Sidhe
Gender: Fae tend to be quite accepting of non-binary identifications
Age: 18-5000ish.  Feel free to Ballpark it. No characters over 5000 or under 18, no exceptions sorry.
Relationship Status: Single? Mated? Commitment Phobe? Looking for Love? Divorced?  You get the idea...
 
Hair: Color, length, style, ect.
Eyes: Many Fae have unusual eye coloring/features, some that are always visible, others that manifest only under certain circumstances (using magic/hungry/in moonlight whatever).
Build: Physical things height/weight.  Muscular, slender.  You don't HAVE to have a face claim, but it helps.  Please stick to more 'realistic' art and try to avoid anime-esque images.  If you need help finding a physical representation I, and many of E's lovely people, are happy to help with suggestions and photoshop modifications to existing pieces.  Everyone needs at least one image for their character. If you DO have a playby please list the model name in this section.
Other distinctions: Scars, tattoos, typical mode of dress, signature scents, ect.

Powers/Skills: Here comes the 'we're all adults' reminder again.   This isn't a system game and characters are supposed to be extraordinary, some have been around for thousands of years were once worshiped as gods and figures of great power throughout history, but it is all about balance.  Avoid using phrasing like 'the best' and try to have a unifying theme for their powerset. Please try to keep your power list to 5 or fewer sections (2-3 major and 2-3 minor, having fewer is totally fine, but no more than five). More on Character Powers.  This helps cut down on the overlap between player powers and gives everyone their 'moments to shine'; it also makes it easier to fit characters together in scenes (because you have a focused power set you need the assistance of others to work at optimal levels instead of just being able to knock out most tasks on your own).
Weaknesses:  Being 'nice' isn't a weakness, it's surface flavoring that is easy to push past and discredit.  Being 'easily taken advantage of' on the other hand means not only does your character have a hard time saying no to others but people know it and routinely exploit this weakness to get what they want generally disadvantaging your character in some way.  All Sidhe and Half-blood characters will have some version of the standard Fae weaknesses.  I'm not going to set a number of weaknesses required, but just remember that weaknesses often shape how you interact with other characters and make it interesting to write with you, more so than any powers your character may have.

History: Please take the world history into account when making your character.  I'm happy to field any questions or suggestions you might have.  This needs to be at least two paragraphs.

Political Views/Affiliations: For characters living in Faerie this would be former court affiliation (yes you have to pick either Seelie or Unseelie, there were no Undeclared or Neutral factions). Please also include their general feelings about humans.   Earth based characters what are your views on Fae and their inclusion into the political world/mainstream. Include affiliations with notable groups.

Personality/Motivations: What drives your character and makes them who they are?

Sexual Preference: I'd like for this to be more than just a 'asexual' 'hetero' pansexual'  ect designation.  Please also include a brief description of your character.  Examples could include - Virginal, reserved, promiscuous, known to fuck anything that moves.   Open to past and/or current lovers with other PCs?  Prefers committed relationships/romance/one night stands/hate sex whatever you might have some kind of reputation for.

More than just a list of your personal on's and offs as a writer I'd like to get into your tailored preferences for this character.  Things that you definitely do or don't want to include in this game, things that might be highlighted or exceptions to your normal writing do's and don'ts. Some random examples listed below.
Yes Please: Virgins, the thrill of unexplored territory and potentially corrupting the pure to her hedonistic lifestyle.  Being Marked, though he might verbally claim otherwise Guy gets a thrill from visible bites and scratches from his lovers.   Non-consent, would like to write a NC scene potentially with multiple partners especially if one is a shapeshifter.
Hard Stop: Abuse, Although character is a human pet anything related to mutilation and vore are hard nos.

RP Thoughts/Plans/Requests: 
I've noticed that 'open to all scenes and character ties' doesn't really get the job done very often.  Please try to offer at least a few specific examples. "I'd like for her to have a handmaiden type slave, human or potentially augmented."  "Like the thought of having active PC children/grandchildren (or it'd be cool if someone played my dad/sister/general thing I find cool, Specific God)." "Especially open to former duel rivalries"  "Someone to be arch nemesis type who maimed her in Fae War" "Need tutor/patron for developing water based magical powers..." "Needs a combat based bodyguard."  "Planning on starting in hiding in human world, would like someone for a best friend/confidant role."    Players will be able to post their own sheets in the approved character's thread so that they can keep this updated if they'd like.

Only half way through the setting, but I'm loving this. I've been craving for a good folklore/fae RP for years now. I don't usually play anything with modern or sandbox in them, but the setting just makes me really want to see if I could make it work now. I just need to make a character with many ties to ensure fun plots.

That being said I would totally want to play some sort of relatively old sidhe or half blood that was in the past closely tied to some group that was intimately knowledgeable of the Dorcha and other similar things that would be considered knowledge of great import. For whatever reason the character would have started to grow aloof over the past few centuries and begun to undergo this 'fading' process. His friends (preferably some other PCs) could be trying to motivate him and pull him back to the affairs and politics of the world. Perhaps he once was a passionate influencer in politics, but now you would be hard pressed to find him venturing further than to the fence. This working would kind of rely on others being interested in playing more proactive characters who know him to pull him into things, which I know can be bit of an issue (lonesome characters don't tend to fare that well in sandbox :-() I'm imagining this sort of tall mysterious magician, possibly Scandinavian flavored. A tall hooded figure with elongated limbs and a hideous face hidden beneath an animal skull. For the human disguise I would need help finding a picture.

I would probably want to make another character so that others don't have to interact with the first one all the time. Someone younger and more active, maybe a human, but I'll finish reading the lore before I can know for sure. For now I'll say that the setting looks vvvery interesting.

What kind of human guise do you see him wearing? aged and rugged or perhaps a more perfect form to provide striking contrast to his true face?  As far as loner types not faring well in a sandbox game, no real worries there.  I LOVE pushing players together for things and I'm sure we could find plenty of places for interaction.  How would you feel about him having a rather specific oracle type ability related to the Dorcha? They're going to play a fairly major role in the story and I love the thought of having a PC already in place to provide much needed foreshadowing.  So there'd be ... council meetings where he's perhaps an unwilling guest speaker and SOMEONE has to teach the new recruits (entering Fae Touched) about the darkness that ends all.  Once the story gets rolling there will be actual hunts to participate in and the older lore from the history will become more important.  At the very least he and Micah can be friends or at least ally types.  Having the former King of the Unseelie in your corner is never a bad thing :-)

I thought about trying to bring over the key terms and history sections, but really that seems like a bit of needless copy pasting.  When making a character I'm afraid you'll just have to refer back to the World Building Thread for those things (unless it's SUPER annoying in which case I can spoiler them all here in this thread as well). 

As per the always I'm easy when it comes to questions and sheets.  Post them here, send a PM, whatever you're comfortable with.  We'll get it all sorted out.

No worries lady :-) After seven straight days of work my main accomplishment would probably be 'not killing anyone' and even then I might just get a tries hard rating.  If you'd like to claim an archetype first (the Aurthruian era is ripe with fun 'myths' that could be easily fleshed into a character ;) ) please feel free.  It isn't a big deal though, there's but a few of us and there are so many options out there that I don't see claims becoming an issue.

Read through your lore. So there is only one gate between Faerie and Earth, no secret pathways or magic to allow passage beside it?

I had somehow missed any aged pictures of Christopher Eccleston. He fits perfectly. Just right amount of apathy, weariness and cynicism with an adorable hint of concern on that face. He will do nicely for the face claim. I might edit eye color if the 'true form' image I'll find has any special eyes. I'm still having rough ideas of what I want from the character, but since Micah is such a cruel ruler even to his friends it could be that MC had a particularly special apprentice/child/partner that despite vastly differing world view kept company to MC and was pretty much his pride and joy. Then came the great split and things got hairy. I imagine many friendships were tested and broken. The details are still up in the air but I would like that Micah ended up killing MC's partner or alternatively caused them to change so that what MC and his partner had was no longer possible or recoverable. Despite MC ending up with the unseelie with whom he would have associated most of his life, there could be bit of a grudge between him and Micah after that and a lieu of other problems with MC's motivation which led to his current descent into general lethargy and rumored beginning steps of fading. It would indeed be fun if he was some kind of oracle or held some valuable information or magical techniques that Micah and some others would want to get passed on before he actually faded. Maybe some other PC could enter here as the exact look-alike of MC's past partner or just as someone who somehow gets past his apathy (details of how this happens I'll leave vague for now). Micah or some others could be manipulating this other PC to milk information out of MC and try to carefully manipulate him through him/her/them.

Edit : Now that I've reviewed all the information, I've got two characters concepts brewing.

Once worshiped as the war goddess Sekhmet, Zahira el-Amin is a Seelie of the old world who has never cared overmuch for the politics of fae. What time she has tends to be split evenly between hunting the Dorcha Síoraí, something she's quite good at, and toying with humans. Whenever she gets bored, she has a tendency to find a noble, preferably attractive warrior and give them all kinds of "gifts". This usually doesn't end well for the human. (Joan of Arc? Mostly her fault.)

Dropped on the doorstep of a Catholic orphanage, Aisling Kavanagh grew up knowing something was not right about her. Too quiet, too scared, too fey. Plagued by nightmares of death. The Mother Superior called her "the devil in the flesh" and there's probably some truth to that. All she's ever wanted was someone who wasn't frightened of her, someone who could take away the nightmares, someone who would give her a home.

Would be strongly interested in her ending up as a Maoine.

Blerg, so we suck at trying to save the world, our new run of Pandemic Legacy is not off to a good start.  But happily I got to come back and see messages and notices from you fine people and that improves my night vastly.

I very much like the ideas you've put up.  Cerevan I like both Aisling and Zahira and you're more than welcome to run with both of them since one is starting in Faerie and the other out on Earth.  Pumpkin Seeds and Violet Panda I hope that you find something that captures you character wise.  If you have questions and what not I'm happy to help.

In retrospect I probably should have sat down and fleshed out a few of the world building sections, specifically those related to character powers and the Dorcha Síoraí.  Of all the questions and concerns I've gone over so 95% of them fall into those two categories.  Before putting up the interest check I wasn't really sure how many players I could count on. I mean there still isn't a concrete number and there will always be the possibility of more people joining in the future, but things would changed pretty radically if there were like three of us, vrs the 10+ we're currently looking at just a day after opening it up. 

My general To Do List right now is this

I've put her on the list (and will indeed have a more official looking 'reserved' section up later today).

As far as a second character (yay!) my general recommendation will always be going the Fae Touched route.  Rounding up their wayward descendants is going to be a pretty major undertaking through most of the game.  It would let you go through the whole training and trial process (Though Ishtar can most certainly be involved in that as well from the other teaching side of things :P)  There will also be places down the road where the Sidhe will be extremely disadvantaged (the Human faction has been studying their weaknesses for years and is quite good at using them against them) making their generally less powered but unrestricted descendants perfectly suited to certain tasks.

Hopefully all that makes sense. 

I need to hunt down some food and do a few of those annoying RL things, but then it's back to trying to knock out sections of the to-do list.

Have I mentioned again how ridiculously happy I am to have y'all involved in this project?

So I promise I AM working on getting the group stuff together and am still very much excited about this game (there are some life things that I go into more detail in my Absences thread, but when isn't life hectic?)

As some of you no doubt have already noticed I am incapable of sending a small and to the point PM.  I end up rambling ... forever.  Covering bases and topics that are only vaguely related to what we were talking about.  Instead of taking a few minutes I end up spending like an hour plus sending out a single PM. [sarcasm] Go me.  [/end sarcasm]

I'm at least gaining traction through those and hopefully some of the stuff we're talking about is making sense/taking shape.

I've also gotten around to doing edits to the character sheet and added a Character Powers and Skills Section to the world building thread.  I'll totally post the more pertinent parts of it here.

The level and number of character abilities was left too vague in my first draft of the character sheet.  It now reads:

Powers/Skills: Here comes the 'we're all adults' reminder again.   This isn't a system game and characters are supposed to be extraordinary, some have been around for thousands of years were once worshiped as gods and figures of great power throughout history, but it is all about balance.  Avoid using phrasing like 'the best' and try to have a unifying theme for their powerset. Please try to keep your power list to 5 or fewer sections (2-3 major and 2-3 minor, having fewer is totally fine, but no more than five). More on Character Powers.  This helps cut down on the overlap between player powers and gives everyone their 'moments to shine'; it also makes it easier to fit characters together in scenes (because you have a focused power set you need the assistance of others to work at optimal levels instead of just being able to knock out most tasks on your own).

If you have any questions, comments, concerns about this please feel free to bring them up.  I like feedback even the harsh kind ;)

Travel to and from Faerie

This has already come up several times.  Being able to travel between worlds with always be a major power.  It's also one that I'm going to limit the numbers of players who can possess it (once we get like three at this point I'll cut it off and reopen it later down the road if/when we get more characters).  Why?  The isolation of Faerie is a big part of the story.  The fact that the Sidhe have been cut off from the outside world for the last hundred years is going to play a large role in their interaction with their descendants.  They now need these traditionally 'weaker' beings to help them survive. 

If everyone can travel between worlds it takes that element out entirely and that gives me a sad.

How do you get out/in to Faerie in the first place?
Gates - While once there were six (there are rumors of there being more, but it could just be the older ones being all grumpy 'back in my day' and exaggerating; that there were at least six is universally agreed upon though) there is now only one active.  Four were destroyed, one is ... missing.  These gates are a permanent fixture on Earth and in Faerie allowing travel both ways.  These Gates sit on natural wells of power, or ley lines on Earth and are EXTREMELY hard to move (it took the combined strength of a few dozen Sidhe to relocate the Gate to Isle Royale).  They are relics left to the Fae by their parents and how they are made, indeed what they are even made of is a mystery.

Personal Phasing - You can take only yourself across the barrier.  The whys and hows are up for debate, but I'm going to be a little more accepting of this one.

Opening Temporary Portals - You create a rift which allows you and small parties of people to travel back and forth from one world to the other. I DO want a few players to have this ability.  It'll be a key function of your character.  Organizing those who will go out to recruit and bring back the Fae Touched, bringing hunting parties out to deal with Dorcha threats.  This power makes you integral to the story.

Very Specific Portals - The example that occurs to me off the top of my head is having like a water Fae who is able to enter a specific area of water in Faerie and emerge into an again very specific watery area on Earth ... I might even go further and limit it to 'when the moonlight touches the water on Earth' just because drama flairs like that appeal to me :P They're essentially creating a tie between Earth and Faerie which is accessible by your character only under limited circumstances.  These types of powers I'm much more likely to sign off on.

Faerie is a wily bitch - There will be times that random natural portals open up.  Those stories of people wandering off in the forest and stumbling back fifty years later without having aged?  They totally found one of these portals and spent time in Faerie.  This is mainly to allow human characters in Faerie randomly.  They'll likely either be escorted out, killed, or adopted into the Moaine.  This has happened MUCH LESS in the last 100 years since not only the the Sidhe move the permanent portal they also tried to reinforce the barrier between the worlds making these random occurrences even more rare.




Fading

Sidhe in the game have found their powers waning over the years.  For some this was caused by the loss of human followers.  Human belief and sacrifice can indeed be a strong source of power, however they are no longer allowed to go this route, humans know the Fae to be extraordinary but killable creatures, they are not gods.  However even those who never received worship have found their own powers fading over the last 750ish years (the last 400 even more so than others).  During the Fae War everyone saw parts of their power slipping away (also mirrored in Faerie itself as large parts of it became inaccessible).  Please feel free to note this on your character sheet "Once he could restore life to a fallen human with but a touch.  He hasn't had access to this power since the 1600's"  While the Sidhe will likely never reclaim ALL of their glory there will be places in the story that everyone receives some small bumps in ability (assuming that you guys work together toward certain goals and things do/don't happen).  The Fae Touched and Half Blood characters will find themselves in possession of abilities that they never had so this is kind of an across the board thing (except for those playing straight humans, which quite frankly I don't see many people doing).

Fae Touched will go through a training and acceptance to Faerie process.  During which/after they will likely experience a bump in ability.  They're better at using whatever they had coming in, or in some cases might develop something new (these new powers should still be listed on your character sheet but just marked as Undiscovered).

Don't feel old, I loved that movie :P  It isn't a very good example though (I'm assuming you're talking about her bursts of superhuman ability when being commanded?)

These things can definitely be a blessing/curse.  For example I LOVE the thought of a small group of Fae showing up at a mental hospital to break out a telepathic character.  He's not crazy, those are other people's voices it is normal and they can teach him to control it :P

Greg is a good example.  As of game start his only real ability is he's a great swimmer (faster, stronger, increased lung capacity).  He's been hamstring himself, he knows that something is 'wrong' with him, but he's been careful to hold himself back to more normal levels so not to draw unwanted attention.  As he's draw into Faerie he'll let go of that, those abilities will heighten ... AND he'll discover at some point that he has some partial snake shifting thanks to his Fae blood.

Game Info and Character Sheets

There's nothing really new there yet, the three characters from the world building thread were moved over.  I'm for sure playing Seraphina (she'll be my main like personal story exploration character).  Micha is more a GM controlled NPC than real character but he'll be pretty active especially in the beginning of the game.  And Greg was initially just created to be an example of how a Fae Touched sheet might differ from a Sidhe, but I'm kind of fond of him and we'll see how it goes.  He'll at the very least be an NPC to play around with.

I've seen two other character sheets already.  They are awesome and we're in the process of refining those, and several others are in mid stages of character creation which is exciting. 

My bigger project today will be revamping the first posts in this thread with a more in depth claim section (I have a deep seated need to make things pretty O.o)

Would you guys be interested in me opening up a OOC page to just kind of casually chat about things or are you good holding off until a few more finished characters filter through?

On that note, I'm leaning towards an old character of mine that I didn't get a chance to play out too much. Saige is essentially a celestial-type Fae. IF I decide to take on two characters, I'll be playing her twin, Saphron, who is the opposite, a demonic-type Fae. Going to try and read and process all the info you've posted up now.

I actually dug out my copy of Katherine's Briggs' "An Encyclopedia of Fairies" to see what sort of being I might be interested in playing. And oddly enough, I got to thinking (Yes, a dangerous thing for me.) No goblins? No ogres? No trolls?  Somehow thinking there might be need for an "honest" monster to point out the less obvious ones.

But I think I'm more interested in playing a human...

Thinking? Oh the HORROR! *cries and rocks self back and forth*

Anyway.  Goblins and trolls aren't a NO for the game.  It is simply that Fae subspecies don't exist for the game.  There is no armies of goblins or traditionally lesser/under fae running around. There are Sidhe and halfbloods who's abilities and appearances inspired the human myth of them. (There are also ... semi-intelligent creatures that live in Faerie reminicent of gremlins and goblins, making a kind of bestiary is on my to do list ... but that list has become like twenty items long and I'm not sure when I'll get there, but those will not be open to be player characters ... NPCs perhaps).

I somewhat got into this in PMs, it is very chicken/egg but the best way I could come up with to explain it is that my character Seraphina doesn't identify herself as a Phoenix (nor does anyone else in Faerie), she is Sidhe, it was humans and their stories ABOUT her that created the phoenix myth.  The whole archetype/inspiration section on the character sheet is just there for book keeping purposes, to keep players from overlapping too much.

So yeah, while the Sidhe TEND to be pretty there is totally room for more 'monstrous' Fae in the game. I'm more fond of the thought of them being halfblooded, some kind of Sidhe human mating that just went ... a little wrong.  While they are still accepted in Faerie it is almost with a sense of pity or horror by some (and they would for sure have to side with the Unseelie in the Fae War just because they're not pretty enough to sit at the cool kid's table :P) Quick example?  Troll. When out among humans character is glamoured to use The Great Kahli as a face claim, is still over seven feet of muscle with craggy features.  His more natural state is even more imposing. With rock like skin and truly terrible strength he has earned a place of honor among the Fae as he is often brought out with the Dorcha hunting parties; sometimes you need a monster to fight a monster. 

*nods* totally doable.  The only limitations are has to have a predominately humanoid form and human level of intelligence.  While I won't say 'go nuts'  I will say that I'm totally open to hearing more of your ideas... OR having you come in as human :-) whatever works for you really!

Absolutely still open for players.  We'll always kind of be in a state of open recruitment and the first batch of characters are still being worked out so the field is still pretty wide open.  General claim list is almost done, but generally speaking steer away from valkyries and Dorcha Síoraí experts and you're probably good to go.  (I promise that the list will be done today, 'm just trying to clean out PMs before rewarding myself with table code :D)

That's because it is more the Irish idea of the Fae, which are "good" (Seelie) and "bad" (Unseelie).

The Irish Sidhe ("of the mound" or "people of the mound") really weren't "good" or "bad" in their own right, more simply alien and mysterious to the mortals. Their reasons for doing things were largely unfathomable, however beneficial or cruel the results may have been to mortals. The Welsh Tylwyth Teg were much the same. The Nordic Alfar shared similar origins to the Sidhe as they may have been born out of some form of ancestral worship, but there's no proven link there, and in the Eddas they are usually shown to have more human motivations. It was the Scots and Scots-English folklore that divided such creatures into Seelie and UnSeelie (which possibly may have come out of 'seemly' and 'un-seemly', but again, the etymological links are missed there.)  Yeats, of course, is the main culprit in creating the idea of Faerie Courts as it applies to the whole spectrum along with the division between Trooping and Solitary Fae. Briggs, I know maintains that there should be a third category of Domestic, but I'm not convinced; at best, such beings would be an offset of Solitary. More modern theory (Purcell, I think??) seemed to divide them up into four categories. My library is mostly packed away at the moment, so I don't have that at hand.

I'm actually really thrilled with the balance of characters currently being worked on. Sometimes it helps those looking to make characters to have a general guide of what's up so far. These are only from characters that have been submitted or talked about here extensively (doesn't take into account general interest).

We've got like *crunches some numbers*

This power allows her to view events as if she were there, including the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings, both emotional and physical, that the previous wielder of the object or the person in question experienced. This power is easier to use on personal objects that were used frequently. Objects that were used once or by several people often made the use of this power difficult and chaotic, though it could still prove possible with training. This skill is useful for tracking though it is not useful in open battle and can even fail to render useful information at times. When Ilyanna uses  this on a person or object, 50% of the time it’s an accident and out of her control, which is why she is seen almost constantly wearing gloves. Usually, if it pulls something off of a person it is either their most recent, freshest or predominant memory that was on their mind at or near the time of their touching. (What she sees will mostly be determined by other players and the GMS. Unless the npc is one I run myself. If a player absolutely refuses to allow her to see anything off of them then I have no choice but to respect that, though that would be a great shame!)

Premonition – It isn’t an exact science but Ilyanna has something of a spidey-sense. She can feel negative intent aimed towards her or the general area she is in. This ensures that Ilyanna is rarely caught off guard, and also makes her an exceptional judge of character; often times being able to pull the fact from fib and analyze the true intent behind someone's words. This is something Ilyanna used to ignore when she was younger, much like her natural instincts, but as she got older she put two and two together and started to realize that she didn’t just have a simple knack for knowing these things but rather an almost supernatural way of sensing danger. Now she definitely listens to it more frequently.

Non-Linear Perceptive Mind – Allows Ilyanna to be aware of strange sensations and changes in the fabrics of reality.

Mentally Resistant – Ilyanna is highly resistant to mental influence and mental abilities.

Crafty and Artistic – Ilyanna spent a lot of time doing arts and crafts while she was home schooled or spending time away at her ‘aunts’ house.

Ballet – She never really had anyone to dance with but she loved how graceful and beautiful ballerinas looked. Ballet is one of the few escapes her parents allowed her growing up.

”Magician” – Ilyanna has shown exceptional skill at pulling a rabbit from her ass. To put it more accurately, the woman is creative and observant, and because of this she excels at making the best of any situation handed to her. Not only does she see outside the box, she acts outside of it too. This has allowed her the unique ability to find solutions for some of the most hopeless of scenarios - All thanks to her strong imagination and a hell of a lot of improvising.

Control/Comprehension – Ilyanna doesn’t currently have full control over her abilities, nor does she fully comprehend them or what they’re telling her. Some things are easier to understand than others but for the most part she is still decoding things as she goes.

Mislead – Ilyanna grew up in a peculiar family that saw her gifts as an illness and curse. For much of her young life she was lead to believe she was sick or possessed.
Frustration/Inadequacy – Due to the way she was raised and the nature of her abilities, Ilyanna often felt tormented and weak for her inability to overcome – or ‘cure’ – them. Because of this she can sometimes exhibit self-deprecating and even self-destructive behavior.

Confusion – Because one of her abilities allows her to experience memories from outside sources as if she were living them herself, there are many memories she holds that she does not fully understand are not her own. While many feel foreign and are easy to differentiate, some – especially those that happened while she was very young – have left her lost and confused about reality and her own life experiences. This has created certain fracturesand irregularities in the way she perceives the world in comparison to other people and can make her seem out of touch with reality and in serious need of grounding. This can also create some irregularities in her personality; leaving her to worry she may one day lose herself completely. 

History:
To fully understand Ilyanna’s history, you first need to understand a little bit about her family. The Mathieu family wasn’t just your average family with average problems. For many generations the Mathieu’s had participated in the operations of the Acies, even if this was never public knowledge. On the outside they seemed like any typical well-to-do but almost fanatically religious family. They all held jobs, their children went to school, they attended church every Sunday and on every holiday, and were even known to make many generous donations to charities all around the world.

However, tragedy had struck this charitable and pious family. Marqus and Julia Mathieu were blessed with four beautiful children - Two handsome boys named Jack and Percy, and little Ilyanna and Adrianna, twin girls to round the family off as the babies of the group. At first everything was wonderful. The two boys were showing exceptionally gifted in both sport and mind, and while their little sisters also showed great promise for what their parents liked to call their ‘school career’, neither girl would make it past their second year in Elementary.

The police and newspapers would call it ‘A Horrible and Tragic Accident’, but Ilyanna knew the truth – or so she thought. To this day she still remembers the events of that day like they’d happened just yesterday. One minute she and Adrianna were playing hide and seek with the kids next door and the next thing she knew she watched her twin, her other half, just walk out into oncoming traffic. Something sparked inside of her that day, as she clung to her dying little sister in the middle of the blood smattered street. Images rushed before her eyes. No… These weren’t just images. It was as if she were reliving her entire short lived life with every withering breath that wheezed past Adrianna’s lips.

Perhaps it was the trauma of the incident that triggered it in her, but one way or another the last thing she remembered was the gut-wrenching pain that wracked through her frail little body as she watched fat tears roll down her sobbing sister’s mirror-like face in a blur – or so she thought. A week later she awoke in a hospital bed and would later find out that she had somehow fallen into a comatose state. Unfortunately her sister died before the paramedics even made it to the scene.

The family was all but shattered by the loss, but it would only be the beginning of their troubles. Something had awoken inside Ilyanna and it was wreaking havoc on her young mind, while horrifying her parents in the process. To them, dots had been connected and everything that had happened to the two girls suddenly made sense – obviously they’d been cursed by their enemies! They couldn’t let the Acies organization find out.. Theyd just lost one daughter, they didn’t need to lose two, but they would try everything they could to cure her of this ‘disease’ she’d been afflicted.

Their attempts to save their last daughter took them all over the world. They tried everything from special teas to exorcisms.  Ilyanna spent her childhood either cooped up inside the house, constantly traveling from ‘voodoo doctor’ to psychiatrist to psychiatric ward in every corner of the world that could even remotely promise results before her parents finally gave up and decided to just keep her confined to the house until they could figure something out.

Ilyanna wasn’t one to remain locked up, however. It wasn’t long before she was sneaking out the window of her room like just about any teen would at her age. It took her parents many years to figure this out too.

Political Views/Affiliations: While Ilyanna is not personally affiliated with anyone, her family has been among the ranks of the Acies for several generations now.

Personality/Motivations: While Ilyanna constantly lives fearful of her next ‘episode’, she is an adventurer at heart. Kept cooped up and hidden away for most of her childhood, Ilyanna has an extreme thirst for freedom and exploration. Ilyanna is a shackled woman under the guise of a free spirit. Growing up in a family thriving off tradition, tradition, tradition and rules, rules, rules; she survives by creating some unconventional traditions and rules of her own. When she isn’t locked away from the world she’s either out at play or caught up in some mischief. Ilyanna loves to laugh and smile, and in so loves just about anything that helps her accomplish this. Because of this the young woman has one rule she must always satisfy – she must laugh at least once every single day, no matter the circumstances.

Sexual Preference: Heterosexual, Monogamous, Demisexual. While it doesn’t have to start out this way at all, I would prefer some sort of romance to eventually develop between Ilyanna and her partner. Ilyanna is a virgin, mostly because she is nervous about human contact and her abilities, but also because of some questionable memories she has that may or may not be from her own past.

Powers:
Psychometry – A mental ability that allows Ilyanna to pick up impressions and traces of information about an object or person touched and the events that have surrounded them. This power allows her to view events as if she were there, including the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings, both emotional and physical, that the previous wielder of the object or the person in question experienced. This power is easier to use on personal objects that were used frequently. Objects that were used once or by several people often made the use of this power difficult and chaotic, though it could still prove possible with training. This skill is useful for tracking though it is not useful in open battle and can even fail to render useful information at times. When Ilyanna uses  this on a person or object, 50% of the time it’s an accident and out of her control, which is why she is seen almost constantly wearing gloves. Usually, if it pulls something off of a person it is either their most recent, freshest or predominant memory that was on their mind at or near the time of their touching. (What she sees will mostly be determined by other players and the GMS. Unless the npc is one I run myself. If a player absolutely refuses to allow her to see anything off of them then I have no choice but to respect that, though that would be a great shame!)

Premonition – It isn’t an exact science but Ilyanna has something of a spidey-sense. She can feel negative intent aimed towards her or the general area she is in. This ensures that Ilyanna is rarely caught off guard, and also makes her an exceptional judge of character; often times being able to pull the fact from fib and analyze the true intent behind someone's words. This is something Ilyanna used to ignore when she was younger, much like her natural instincts, but as she got older she put two and two together and started to realize that she didn’t just have a simple knack for knowing these things but rather an almost supernatural way of sensing danger. Now she definitely listens to it more frequently.

Non-Linear Perceptive Mind – Allows Ilyanna to be aware of strange sensations and changes in the fabrics of reality.

Mentally Resistant – Ilyanna is highly resistant to mental influence and mental abilities.

Skills:
Crafty and Artistic – Ilyanna spent a lot of time doing arts and crafts while she was home schooled or spending time away at her ‘aunts’ house.

Literary Buff – Ilyanna spent a lot of time reading whatever she could get her hands on. She had little else to do while stuck in a near constant state of bed rest.

Ballet – She never really had anyone to dance with but she loved how graceful and beautiful ballerinas looked. Ballet is one of the few escapes her parents allowed her growing up.

”Magician” – Ilyanna has shown exceptional skill at pulling a rabbit from her ass. To put it more accurately, the woman is creative and observant, and because of this she excels at making the best of any situation handed to her. Not only does she see outside the box, she acts outside of it too. This has allowed her the unique ability to find solutions for some of the most hopeless of scenarios - All thanks to her strong imagination and a hell of a lot of improvising.


Weaknesses:
Control/Comprehension – Ilyanna doesn’t currently have full control over her abilities, nor does she fully comprehend them or what they’re telling her. Some things are easier to understand than others but for the most part she is still decoding things as she goes.

Mislead – Ilyanna grew up in a peculiar family that saw her gifts as an illness and curse. For much of her young life she was lead to believe she was sick or possessed.
Frustration/Inadequacy – Due to the way she was raised and the nature of her abilities, Ilyanna often felt tormented and weak for her inability to overcome – or ‘cure’ – them. Because of this she can sometimes exhibit self-deprecating and even self-destructive behavior.

Confusion – Because one of her abilities allows her to experience memories from outside sources as if she were living them herself, there are many memories she holds that she does not fully understand are not her own. While many feel foreign and are easy to differentiate, some – especially those that happened while she was very young – have left her lost and confused about reality and her own life experiences. This has created certain fracturesand irregularities in the way she perceives the world in comparison to other people and can make her seem out of touch with reality and in serious need of grounding. This can also create some irregularities in her personality; leaving her to worry she may one day lose herself completely. 

History:
To fully understand Ilyanna’s history, you first need to understand a little bit about her family. The Mathieu family wasn’t just your average family with average problems. For many generations the Mathieu’s had participated in the operations of the Acies, even if this was never public knowledge. On the outside they seemed like any typical well-to-do but almost fanatically religious family. They all held jobs, their children went to school, they attended church every Sunday and on every holiday, and were even known to make many generous donations to charities all around the world.

However, tragedy had struck this charitable and pious family. Marqus and Julia Mathieu were blessed with four beautiful children - Two handsome boys named Jack and Percy, and little Ilyanna and Adrianna, twin girls to round the family off as the babies of the group. At first everything was wonderful. The two boys were showing exceptionally gifted in both sport and mind, and while their little sisters also showed great promise for what their parents liked to call their ‘school career’, neither girl would make it past their second year in Elementary.

The police and newspapers would call it ‘A Horrible and Tragic Accident’, but Ilyanna knew the truth – or so she thought. To this day she still remembers the events of that day like they’d happened just yesterday. One minute she and Adrianna were playing hide and seek with the kids next door and the next thing she knew she watched her twin, her other half, just walk out into oncoming traffic. Something sparked inside of her that day, as she clung to her dying little sister in the middle of the blood smattered street. Images rushed before her eyes. No… These weren’t just images. It was as if she were reliving her entire short lived life with every withering breath that wheezed past Adrianna’s lips.

Perhaps it was the trauma of the incident that triggered it in her, but one way or another the last thing she remembered was the gut-wrenching pain that wracked through her frail little body as she watched fat tears roll down her sobbing sister’s mirror-like face in a blur – or so she thought. A week later she awoke in a hospital bed and would later find out that she had somehow fallen into a comatose state. Unfortunately her sister died before the paramedics even made it to the scene.

The family was all but shattered by the loss, but it would only be the beginning of their troubles. Something had awoken inside Ilyanna and it was wreaking havoc on her young mind, while horrifying her parents in the process. To them, dots had been connected and everything that had happened to the two girls suddenly made sense – obviously they’d been cursed by their enemies! They couldn’t let the Acies organization find out.. Theyd just lost one daughter, they didn’t need to lose two, but they would try everything they could to cure her of this ‘disease’ she’d been afflicted.

Their attempts to save their last daughter took them all over the world. They tried everything from special teas to exorcisms.  Ilyanna spent her childhood either cooped up inside the house, constantly traveling from ‘voodoo doctor’ to psychiatrist to psychiatric ward in every corner of the world that could even remotely promise results before her parents finally gave up and decided to just keep her confined to the house until they could figure something out.

Ilyanna wasn’t one to remain locked up, however. It wasn’t long before she was sneaking out the window of her room like just about any teen would at her age. It took her parents many years to figure this out too.

Political Views/Affiliations: While Ilyanna is not personally affiliated with anyone, her family has been among the ranks of the Acies for several generations now.

Personality/Motivations: While Ilyanna constantly lives fearful of her next ‘episode’, she is an adventurer at heart. Kept cooped up and hidden away for most of her childhood, Ilyanna has an extreme thirst for freedom and exploration. Ilyanna is a shackled woman under the guise of a free spirit. Growing up in a family thriving off tradition, tradition, tradition and rules, rules, rules; she survives by creating some unconventional traditions and rules of her own. When she isn’t locked away from the world she’s either out at play or caught up in some mischief. Ilyanna loves to laugh and smile, and in so loves just about anything that helps her accomplish this. Because of this the young woman has one rule she must always satisfy – she must laugh at least once every single day, no matter the circumstances.

Sexual Preference: Heterosexual, Monogamous, Demisexual. While it doesn’t have to start out this way at all, I would prefer some sort of romance to eventually develop between Ilyanna and her partner. Ilyanna is a virgin, mostly because she is nervous about human contact and her abilities, but also because of some questionable memories she has that may or may not be from her own past.

I think I have like ... two more PMs that need to be sorted out, but quite a few people seem to be well on their way to character finishing.  Bring on the plotting and planning.  I'll get thread descriptions up ... soon, tomorrow maybe depending on how my coffee stores hold out, but actual in game posting won't begin until likely this weekend if not a little later.  I'd like to have at least six finished characters (mine only count as one :P) before we start taking things IC just to help preserve initial posting momentum a bit. 

I'll be either putting up or sending out to your PM box a mini .. questionnaire as well designed to see what kinds of scenes you're interested in writing with your characters just to see where some of the initial story explorations should go.  Feel free to put up requests, not just for your character but things you think would be cool to see in the game.  It helps provide inspiration for me, other writers in the group, and potential players.

I know this was only supposed to be an example, but I found it really interesting. Perhaps it's something that can only be used by a regular human? Maybe it's something that rejects magical beings? Like in their hands it's nothing more than a typical ____ but in the hands of a regular human they can use it to see the last scene where someone used one of their abilities? That way it couldn't be to op to where it can just find someone at a drop of a hat and aa bit of a challenge to tracking them past that initial scene. It'd be something fiercely protected by the fae, especially with the human threat and the fact it can probably be used to track down regular Sidhe too. So this human is possibly plucked from earth at birth and raised for the role? I wouldn't really suggest letting it be a pc, honestly x3  But that's just my opinion.

While I do get the reservation about it being a PC I'm somewhat trying to limit the GM controlled aspects of this group. There WILL be GM posts and guidance along the way, but I'm happy to let others steer from time to time. I want players to feel like they're not just participating in but are actively shaping and integral to the story.  Anyone taking on a role like this would have to sign off on some basic things like accepted use of character 'off camera' especially during those times if/when their activity drops off (we all need a break from time to time :P) plus writing the same exact thing (finding a new Fae Touched) over and over will likely get boring, but if they're ever looking for character interaction it's right there waiting to be picked up again. 

Having it be a relic and not an inborn power also means that if the character left the group we could whip up an NPC replacement or recruit another to fill the slot fairly easily.  Maybe some kind of divination bowl and/or dowsing compass? I dunno, lots of options!

Also everyone please feel free to chat in the OOC, approved, working on a character, still just thinking about it, whatever.  The more the merrier.

I understand your point on the pc vrs to much gm control issue, but I'd imagine that playing such a character as one of their mains wouldn't prove to exciting. I wouldn't imagine whatever Fae faction that has them would be willing to let them wander about freely. I imagined that they would be able to scry for more than just Fae touched but actual Fae as well, especially if it's based on the last use of magical abilities. So with that in mind, my thoughts were that this character would be heavily controlled and under lock and key to keep them both as safe as possible and as unpolluted as possible. The worry that this human's thoughts could be tampered with could be a very real threat!

But again, that's just where my imagination took me :P

Whee, so the active cast list on the front page there is up to date.  At least as far as I know; if I'm missing something totally poke me. I do have more characters waiting for me to finish PMs for them.  Bad Rampant *slaps own hand* Those are slotted for tomorrow as I have to go pass out now.

Will also make IC threads tomorrow as well, but I don't expect posting to hit until ... maybe this weekend.  We're still working out character connections and getting settled.  Recruitment for the group is always going to be open, but now is an especially good time to jump in since EVERYONE is looking to plan opening scenes and make character connections ;)

Excellent!  Jack Frost is totally a viable character inspiration .

I think I scared people off portals entirely  >:)  Which wasn't entirely my intention since we do need SOME people who can move between worlds.  It is still an available power.

IC threads went up this morning so we're technically up and running for in game posting (they're linked all over the place, at the top of every thread really).  Also started a Bestiary type thing in the World Building section which will hopefully help clear up some confusion as to how Fae characters and creatures differ.   

For the sake of simplicity there aren't multiple character races  I felt it would be too limiting/confusing to try and come up with a list.  Instead it is just a grade of how much Fae blood you have.

Sidhe→Half Blood→Fae Touched→Human

That's it.  If you're making a PC you are one of those four things.  The End. You then pick a flavor or inspiration which represents how your Fae blood manifests.  Example: Kyrsa's Azazel isn't a dragon, not exactly.  That is there is no subclass of dragons in the world. He's a Sidhe who's abilities have developed in such a way that he can shift into a giant fire breathing scaled beast. Sightings of him have given rise to the myths and stories involving dragons. The other Sidhe and Fae don't see him as a dragon, he's one of the noble Fae.  The 'concept/inspiration' section on the character sheet is just for clarification and a quick scan down the character list.  There are no subspecies. Fae offspring might end up gaining abilities similar to that of their parents (or many great grand parents) but there's no real guarantee of this (magic and genetics are unpredictable :P).  Seraphina's kids wouldn't be born and recognized as phoenixes, they're either Sidhe/Halfblooded/Fae Touched but they might have some bird like/fire/regenerative abilities (but they don't HAVE to). 

As a general rule At least human intelligence+humanoid shape and size = playable character. The Bestiary has other creatures that, while intelligent in some way, aren't viable PCs.  They are the animals and fauna of Faerie, creatures salvaged from a world long dead.  If you think to yourself 'that's really cool I should make a character like that!' then it doesn't belong in the Bestiary, it goes in the pool of character inspirations and one of the Fae characters can be based around it later.

There's still tons of room (we've not just one big world but two to play with after all!).  Fae touched and human characters are fine (encouraged even!).  I'll send you a PM to kind of gloss over a few options to keep in mind as you look over the world info if you don't mind. 

Two characters is the limit right now not a requirement;  you're more than welcome to just make one (and if you'd like add in another character later or just stick with your original throughout the game). 

This is also a good time to put a temporary lock on portal creation characters.  Right now we have Azazel (who can give the ability to a select few).  Dotley's proposed character, Crevan's newest, and potentially Kuro's.  That's roughly one out of five characters right now and I don't want to go much over that (extremely limited abilities, as in from a specific place in Faerie to a specific place on Earth might work though, but just general anywhere portals are capped).

We've got some awesome new characters coming in but I kind of need to actively recruit a bit here... We need Seelie (or at least the Fae formerly known as Seelie :P) for the group.  We currently only have two and there are no more in the making that I know of.  I need to mash together a Fae council, but with so many dark court this is proving a bit problematic and unbalanced.  Since I'm not sure the group is ready for me to open up a third slot for characters here we are in the recruitment thread!

Random inspirations that I think would make good Seelie in no particular order...

It is worth mentioning that the Seelie are by no means weak.  They just generally have a more favorable view on humans than their Unseelie counterparts and frown on genetic defects and what not (the more monstrous of their kin).   Less death/war/destruction and more fertility/sun/civilization orientated.  Good times abound!

Would it be helpful if I shifted my concept a little to become Brigit the Celtic goddess of inspiration/fire/poetry and a whole host of things?  I have an image I want to use very badly but I think it could work as Brigit if I play with the hair color some.

I've been working on a fae-touched second character inspired by Maman Brigitte who is closely tied to the Celtic Brighid (in more than name). If this overlaps too much with you Evangelina, in either concept, let me know. I could look for something else.

Well you had it first, Kuroneko, I don't want to step on toes.  I'm only thinking of switching my concept to fill a gap.  I had considered doing a craftsman sort, only I stumbled upon an image that I'm smitten with and was trying to tailor a character around that.  Based on the image I thought Brigit would be a good fit.  But I have an affinity for Athene (and have played her before) so that could work for me but not so much with the image I have in mind.  So I may well have to scrap the image.

If you're working on more of the smithcraft aspect of Brighid, that doesn't really negate my idea. I'm working with more of a healer. Though it would be hard to do Brighid without healing I think, since it's one of Her purviews.

Kuroneko, I'll leave you to it 100%.  As I said I was trying to fill a gap.  I have a word file open for my CS and will fiddle with the ideas and see if I can't steer her in a more Athenish direction.  I will broaden her art to include other things and see if it works for me.

If that's what you really want to do. This character is honestly so far from where I originally started it's crazy, lol. Who knows where it'll end up once it's done.

Is anyone making a person with chronothurgychronomancy (I've been corrected, apparently, even though Google says they both work)? If not, I'm going to work on a character in the nearish future that does that.
