Everything changes, given time.  The seasons change from winter to spring, summer, and fall and back again in a never ending cycle.  People change as time marches forward, starting as small bundles of joy to young men and women seeking to make someting of themselves, to elders passing on hard won wisdom to those that will listen.  Places change as well, often touched by man as villages are established, cities rise, and castles are erected to protect those that live within their shadows before inevitably falling back into ruin.  And in incredibly rare instances, even ancient prophecies and lingering curses can change, adapting, evolving, seeking to overcome that which has trapped them in a cycle of their own.  Everything changes, given enough time.

And so it was a King became a Queen, and a Hero of legend found itself facing a new threat, one he wasn't prepared for, for he did not recognize her for what she was.  Not even the then Queen knew her for her true face, but just as the nature of their enemy had changed, so had her demeanor.  No longer was Ganon, the King of Evil, truly evil anymore.  At least, that's the story she weaved the first time she appeared in Hyrule, changed from what they once knew and had grown used to for thousands of years.  Despite eventually figuring out just who, and more importantly, what she was, Ganon, the Queen of the Gerudo people, did not invade Hyrule, but rather tried to make peace with it.  But before her desire for peace could be made even a faint possibility, tragedy and betrayal struck, which ended in the death of the Gerudo Queen and her top lieutenants.

Later, it was discovered Hyrule's people themselves weren't about to take the chance Ganon turned on them as he'd, now she, had done countless times before, and despite wishes to the contrary from Queen Zelda herself, they struck against the woman before she could become a danger again.  For the next twenty-one years, things seemed to go back to normal, until another woman calling herself Ganon appeared once more.  And unlike all of the times before, this one remembered.  This one remembered everything, something else that had never happened before save for vague recollections from across the eons.  How to wield a sword, playing the pipe organ, commanding armies, but never any fine details, never anything beyond dreams that often faded in the morning save for the embers of memory.  That was no longer the case however, and she was understandably upset over having been murdered, especially by someone other than the eternal Champion and protector of Hyrule, Link, when all she had wanted was peace and a chance to give her people a better life, this time.  She understood why of course, but offering the olive branch hadn't worked when she'd been nothing but honest and sincere.  As a result, she decided perhaps she'd need to go about this with a bit more finesse, and so a plan was concocted, one that would see things changed to her will for once.

And the people who hadn't been willing to see reason, to give her a chance to try and redeem herself for the first time since this had all began?  Well, there'd be time enough for them once her plot began to unfold...

As you can no doubt guess from the introduction here, things have changed.  No longer will Ganon be the King of Evil, but rather a Queen, and she isn't the only one that has changed since Demise put his curse into action so long ago.  What else has changed you might ask?  Well, that depends on who we get to make characters and how they might shape things in their own small ways, but overall this will be AFTER the events of Breath of the Wild and the timeline that the game falls into.  (As much as I love the branching timeline theory, we're not going to be getting into that mess.)  As far as an actual time, I'd say about two hundred years since the end of BOTW, so they've had time to recover from all that transpired, and to learn much of what they had lost regarding the ancient tech left behind by the Shiekah and their descendants, but this is our own story, not theirs, so while vague references to events long since past are more than acceptable, that is all they should be, vague references.  Beyond that, the usual things apply when talking Legend of Zelda.  Magic is semi-rare, with most people knowing about it but being either unable or just untrained to use it, with only the likes of monsters, Ganon, Zelda, and a number of NPCs typically being able to use magic to achieve things otherwise thought impossible.  I won't be too harsh on who can use it and who can't, but just keep in mind the most powerful of practitioners are typically only able to call down lightning on command, or are able to raise impenetrable barriers, to name two such examples, not counting those empowered by divine objects like Zelda, Ganon, and Link to name three.  Cia is one of those rare exceptions, and only because she was half a goddess from the Hyrule Warriors era if I recall, but again, as long as you come up with a good reason, I won't complain much.  ;D

Current Setting

Zora Domain:  The Zora people, a race of typically blue scaled aquatic beings, protect the rivers, lakes, and streams of Hyrule, as well as serving as skilled spear fighters, powerful swimmers, and noble spirited individuals overall to any that visit their lands.  As long as one respects their homes and the water itself, Zoras are quite friendly and open to most outsiders.  From musicians to archers, to artisans and fishermen, whatever their profession and passion, the Zora give their all to whatever they pursue, and because of their long lives, they are able to master all that they set their minds to.  Their Domain is to the east and north of Hyrule Castle.  Currently, the Zora people are ruled by King Sidonis, (formerly Prince Sidonis, brother to Mipha, Princess and former Champion to Princess Zelda, she who commanded one of the four Divine Beasts), and his three children and their revered council of elders.  While they still cling to many of their old traditions, the Zora have made great strides in strengthening their homes against any and all would be invaders, while making trade to and from their domain that much easier for those they are staunch allies with.  A series of watergates and metallic fortress walls surround the edges of their domain, keeping monstrous Octoroks and the occasional bokoblin raiding band from running roughshod against the Zora.

Death Mountain:  Despite the name, the Goron people, a race of humanoid rock like beings, call this place their home, something they've done for countless years.  Making their home around the base of a normally dormant volcano, (save for those times when something is amiss), the Gorons dig up valuable ores that they trade and craft into powerful weapons and armor, making them incredibly skilled artisans, blacksmiths, and naturally attuned to the ground they make not only their livelihood from, but also their survival since there are many kinds of rocks and minerals that the Gorons eat to keep their formidable strength up.  Proud to the point of stubbornness, the Gorons aren't ones to ask for help with their internal affairs, but there are a few exceptions to this rule.  The Protector to the Princess is one such example, the Guardian of all of Hyrule, the Hero that has saved their home on multiple occasions.  Most everyone else has to earn a Goron's respect and acceptance, but once they do, there are typically few races that are more loyal and trustworthy than a Goron that owes a life debt to you and your descendants.  Death Mountain lies to the northeast of Hyrule Castle, and it is a treacherous and dangerous climb even at the best of times, being incredibly hot to the unprepared, thus making it quite taxing on the body just from the heat alone, but one that is well worth the effort.

Rito City:  Once Rito Village, this place has undergone the most change.  While they still favor sticking with a chieftain as far as leadership goes, the Rito, thanks to their connection to the sky and the protection of the aerial fortress, their Divine Beast, they've managed to turn their small if impressive village into a full fledged city among the clifftops of their home.  A series of intricate, sturdy bridges and mechanical lifts allow less airborne travelers to make their way through the city without incident, and while some Rito are a little haughty and proud of the fact they can fly and the other races can't, most are open to outsiders and willing to trade even with the Gerudo without complaint.  The anthropomorphic bird people are very deadly archers, striking from well beyond the range of most ground based archers and siege engines with ease as they pass overhead on their powerful wings, but at a cost of adequate, heavy protection.  Despite this, they are much more keen to follow far less violent pursuits, preferring to master the musical arts than anything, and their legends and stories are as old as the kingdom itself in some cases, many of which have been turned into breathtaking musicals and sacred songs sung during festival and holy days.  All in all, the Rito might be haughty in certain regards, but making friends of these passionate individuals ensures you'll never go far without a winged friend protecting your back.  Rito City is deep within the Tabantha Frontier, far to the west and north of Hyrule Castle and its surrounding city.

Gerudo Town:  Despite the fear and hatred most people harbor of the all female race of their desert dwelling neighbors, many can agree that most Gerudo are content to leave the rest of Hyrule alone.  For those that go out of their way to trade with them however, have reported that the tall, incredibly powerful and physically imposing group of amazonian women are quite polite despite their own xenophobic tendencies when it comes to who they allow in and out of their homes.  Traders are often forced to remain outside of Gerudo Town unless they are female themselves, in which case they are often kept under surveillance, more for their own protection than any fear of any outside influences.  Despite such ancient traditions guiding their hands, the years have treated them well, until rumors of a new Ganondorf started to spring up some years ago now, and a lot of old hurts were remembered, both from outside their walls, and within, while some were willing to bend the knee to this dark skinned woman with glowing orange-yellow eyes.  Whatever the case might be regarding said rumors, the Gerudo themselves might still live in loose tribes and traveling bands, but all of them eventually make their way to one of their few towns in existence at some point or another.  As a result, all of them pay homage to their most capable and wise leader, of which Rajin, daughter to Urbosa, currently resides as their chieftain.  A mother of six daughters, Rajin is a devout follower of their ancient ways, paying homage to the goddess of the desert and those spirits the goddess commands, as well as remembering and honoring her mother who fought and died to protect Hyrule from Ganon's malicious intentions two centuries ago.  She is one of many that has refused to bend the knee, but not all of her daughters agree with her stubbornness....  Gerudo Town is far to the southwest of Hyrule Castle, deep in the desert of their homeland, making for a difficult journey for the ill prepared.

Hyrule Castle:  Located at the center of the country, Hyrule Castle and its surrounding city has grown strong once more despite all that has transpired.  Returned to its former glory, if not surpassed it, Hyrule Castle has and will always be the seat of power for the Royal Family, held by the venerable King of Hyrule and his daughter, Princess Zelda, chosen bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, and one of the few that has personally helped defeat the evil tyrant, Ganondorf, alongside her loyal knight and protector, Link.  Often accompanied by one of the Shadow People, or better known as the Shiekah clan, the Royal Family are wise and benevolent rulers, with the women holding the true power behind the throne given their undisputed wisdom and formidable powers, gifted to them by both the Goddess Hylia and the Triforce of Wisdom they bear upon their right hand.  And the people have prospered greatly since the castle was restored after Calamity Ganon was defeated, bringing new life and happiness to the kingdom they once more call home.  While it's taken time, the autonomous Guardians that once patrolled the city and its surrounding countryside have been largely cleared away, melted down or repaired as the need arises, leaving only a few dozen that are closely watched lest they go berserk again as they did when the Calamity first appeared.  Whatever the case, despite rumors of a new Ganon appearing, this one different from all the rest that have come before, many people agree that as long as Zelda and her protector stands, no one could ever hope to take away their lives and hope again.

Current Time

The fundamental being of Demise's curse changed twenty one years ago, with a new form of the Gerudo King being born into the world, this one a woman.  Elsewhere however, Queen Zelda and her council, along with her loyal bodyguards and close friends, Link and Impa, are quickly made aware something has changed, but the discovery of ancient ruins in the desert prompt them to send excavation teams to uncover the rest.  Between this and their continuing research into the ancient Sheikah technology, as well as remnants of both the Yiga Clan wanting to destroy those few they can find unawares, which naturally number Link, Zelda, and any of their descendants, and monster attacks in general that require a response by the knights of Hyrule, rumors of a new manifestation of a changed, eons old threat slips to the wayside until Ganondorva makes herself known to the people of Hyrule.  Zelda and the rest immediately respond, expecting the worst, but this new Ganon proves genuine in her intentions of hoping to foster a much better relationship between them all.

Tensions mount however despite Ganondorva proving she is nothing like her previous incarnations, and it isn't long that, despite having begun to make a lasting friendship between herself, Zelda, and Link, that she is slain along with most of her top soldiers and closest allies.  Zelda brings to bear her full authority on those responsible for the deed, stripping many of their property, rank, and titles while executing the ringleader for putting the conspiracy against the former ruler of the Gerudo, understanding that what hope they had in repairing the long ago burned bridge has just been lost.  While she resolves to try and do so when Ganondorva returns, and Zelda and Link both know she will, Queen Zelda doesn't live long enough to see it, dying shortly after her daughter is born.  Many speculate that between losing Ganondorva to assassins, as well as any hope of ending their ancient feud once and for all, on top of the strain of childbirth not long after, that it was all too much.

Later it was discovered that the Yiga Clan had actually succeeded in poisoning the Queen right under Impa's nose, which led to the venerable woman in retiring in shame back in her home village of Kakoriko.  Link would later fall protecting the still very young Zelda from those remnants of the conspiracy against Ganondorva, seeing the Royal Family as traitors and worse for having ever allowed their enemy into the castle, their home, at all.  Despite a period of unrest, things would settle down for a time, with Zelda and an once more reincarnated Link growing up together in the castle, but having very little to do with each other outside of brief encounters.  All the while, as promised, Ganondorva grew in strength and power, preparing for her inevitable return...

Finishing touches

As you can see folks, things have changed.  True, the Guardians and Divine Beasts are still around, but not NEARLY as they once were between how effectively they were either destroyed during BOTW's time with Link clearing out most of the area of their presence, or because the people themselves from the various villages, (which are still around I just didn't want to list every single place where people have settled), have since removed them out of fear from the days spent cowering from their shadows anytime one wandered by.  The Divine Beasts have since fallen dormant for the most part, silently poised where they were left after their Champions had departed for the next life, but they're still around.  They won't play a role in things to come, but if anyone wants to poke around their innards, you're more than welcome to do so, just be careful because they ARE still revered for all that they did against the Calamity.  Not asking permission or outright ignoring orders to the contrary will result in some potentially troublesome but potentially amusing repercussions.  :P >:)  But as for the general setting in and of itself and how I kinda see things being ran for this game, is a more Game of Thrones set up.  I don't want this to become nearly as dark and gritty, but the general idea that this will be more people interacting with people, making alliances, setting up betrayals, political marriages, etc etc, things of that nature while sticking true to the Legend of Zelda themes and setting will be the goal.  Noble knights, corrupt nobles, people just trying to get by, all this and more will be a thing while those in true power, Link, Ganon, and Zelda, vie against each other or alongside each other, will have far reaching repercussions for all involved.

I'll be getting the rules and character sheet going here soon, just want to make sure this is ready to go for the moment.  The towns and villages listed aren't the only places you can start at by any means, (especially since Tarrey Town is actually pretty awesome if you go out of your way to help build it lol), it's just to give a general idea of what's currently going on and a bit of info for those not familiar with the various races.  If you guys can come up with a reason why, I MIGHT agree to allow more traditional elves, orcs, or anything else along the same lines, especially since the lands beyond the seas on all sides are largely unmentioned and not talked about.  I just ask that they NOT be hostile invaders, but rather peaceful, mostly, explorers and the like just trying to understand this place they find themselves in.  Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there.  See ya soon with the rest of this.  :D

Character Sheet

A few things regarding characters.  Abilities are what you yourself are good at, not because of your race, but because of who YOU are as a person, meaning even if you're a Zora, you might be naturally good at swimming, but you can still be a very capable fighter in or out of the water as long as it fits your history and personality.  Maybe being fluent in ancient Hylian is your thing, or just collecting lore and knowledge and legends from the old days?  Whatever the case, feel free to be creative.  (And yes, I stole the sheet from Zootopia's game....don't say anything?  :P)  And yes, pictures are more than alright, but please resize appropriately when the need arises.  Character limit will be up to two, for now, but you can have any number of NPCs as you wish to control as you wish, as long as you actually USE them and don't mind occasionally if myself or any of my Co-GMs take control of them per your permission of course, but otherwise they'll be yours to do with as you need/like.  There will also be the chance to do multiple scenes, but I'm gonna be putting a limit to two or three tops, at least to start, not counting any Story Relevant posts/thread/etc.  There will ALSO be a header to take care of when posts are up and going, but for now just worry about getting people together, expressing interest, and asking questions if ya wish.  See ya!

The door to the Twilight Realm if I recall is still around, it's just probably been lost to time is all.  So yeah, I can definitely allow someone from the Twilight Realm to pop up, and yeah, it's a different realm, and while those from TP are weak to the sun and all that, they're not bad people.  They're just....different.  :D  So go nuts Peanuts, I'm all for it.  ;D

Roleplay Frog

Link is all about being conflicted.

I read setup and world, but where do the players actually fit in? I mean, I read the Game of Thrones part, but the character sheet doesn't seem to lend itself to noble world-building strategy aspects. Furthermore half of the premise sounds like a heroic struggle fangame setup. Also, The innate black/whiteness of the videogame world of Hyrule makes for a tricky backdrop for morally ambigious scenarios.

Peanuts

well alrighty then. I think I'll be playing Midna's son to continue with the genderbending theme :p

Peanuts

Lol, I would but it would be kind of a shame to negate Midna's character development at the end of TP, so instead we get her immature son instead :p Some early pics I've found.

Nothing says Midna can't make an appearance at some point to check on where her son has disappeared off to.
If I haven't posted in a day or two check here, maybe harrass me a bit if there isn't a post :p

Haven't got an On/Offs thread, so check my RP preferences instead.

First off, I LOVE your avatar picture Deva, the Master is brilliantly evil during his time on the show.

To answer your questions though, there IS plenty of opportunity for a more GoT set up since there ARE different places among the world of Legend of Zelda, especially since the Realm of Twilight is gonna be making a comeback.  Zora Domain with its fish people for example, their priority is their watery domain, and they protect their home quite ferociously when the need arises.  As such, they'd naturally send someone to Hyrule Castle and its surrounding town to negotiate for help, trade, or to make any grievances known to the Royal Family, mostly Zelda since she's the one that does anything of note.  That's just one example, but it works for getting my point across.  Hence, there's plenty of room for things to go sideways if things are played accordingly since people, no matter their race, can be incredibly stupid and selfish at times.  ;D  Hope that helps.  :D

Lol and Drow, would ya drop the animal kink stuff already?  You're creeping me out.  :P  Also Peanuts, not bad with the pics and that you've found a male Midna, essentially, to play as.  I like it.  ;D

How would it be negating her character developement? For all we know Ganon pieced the mirror back together during one of his past lives  but didn't get to activating it ;).

...Link might try to capture or run away with her if Ganon's and Zelda's little war is at a stale mate by then. xD

Unfortunately Drow, one of Link's most redeeming qualities that pass on from one to the next is his loyalty to the realm of Hyrule.  Running off is so out of character that he, or she, might as well be another character altogether.  So no....that won't likely be happening.  :P

And I know it's a joke dude, I'm just sayin' it was weird to me is all lol.

Well he/she has only known Hyrule in peace time. Things are different when getting sieged is a daily possibility, after all Link is usually reincarnated as a peasant or farmer. Also he/she wouldn't be running away exactly, she's getting someone to help end the war without needless bloodshed. Who better than someone who can turn into a literal giant rage monster that would make any man soil himself upon sight? At the very least it would keep the two royal nutjobs from clawing at each other's throats for five seconds so Link can try to talk sense into them. :P
