Marauder has a larger weapon heat load than it can handle if you fire everything all the time but if you fire the weapons reasonably you’ll be fine   The Grasshopper is a brilliant design, built to handle going full bore without building too much heat debt. Weapons are a little light for a mech its size but it has max armour or close to it. Marauder has less armour despite being bigger.

Not familiar enough with the BK or Crab without checking stats they venture an opinion

Thorne: i like the concept. The Hussar is a fun little thing. Flimsy but fun :) Seems like made for the pilot, small, scrappy but fun ^^

Andi: welcome :)

espendabelle: yeah invasion just started so no clan mechs captured yet. they are still kicking all sorts of ass. I wouldn't worry too much about the specific details if one has a few tons of armour more or less. Focus on which design looks good to you. They are very similar as Captain said.

To add to what he said, the BK has 13 tons of armour which is respectable to say the last. However with only single heat sinks it suffers badly from heat buildup. But it has superiour communications and was often used as a command mech.

Crab. Much lighter than the previous ones. So less of a stand and take it mech. Dependable long range scout/hunter mech. With all energy weapons no need to worry about ammo. And I personally adore the design. ^^

Captain: Firestarter eh? someone likes to live dangerously ^^ welcome

A little research has discovered that it is one of your favourites.  It was mentioned mildly tongue in cheek.  I'm actually leaning more towards either the VTOL pilot or the tank crew.

Are we doing single characters?

So it looks like all my choices are about cooking myself. I love it.

So far it looks like everyone else is a light 'Mech, so I'll take one of the heavies then.

Captain Whitebread

You wouldn't cook yourself in a Grasshopper.

22 heat sinks

Max weapon heat (aka hitting the big red button) 22 heat

Only movement or jumping would put you on the heat scale.  Don't use the missile system and you can fire all day without issue unless you jump.  It's a solid mech.  Just lightly armed for its size.

Well I.. hadn't thought of if people wanted more than one char. I am leaning to one each but.. what do you all think?

Captain Whitebread

Captain Whitebread

I hate it when I get 11 million ideas for characters.

Now I'm looking at a Soar or Kestrel medevac crew or a Chaparral mobile artillery crew

lol you been having around Karma too long I think ^^

Captain Whitebread

I only come up with concepts.  I don't create the characters.

As always, I'm trying to fill holes in the unit.

Aerial scout

Mobile artillery

Medevac - I'm looking for the Wombat stats.

Supply (Kharnov escorted by a pair of Warriors)

Most people will create mechwarriors.  I'm looking for something a little more unique.

Sara Nilsson

Well so far we are light on.. most things ^^

Any of those ideas could work fine.

Im opening up the discussion to all. One or multiple chars? I can see a main char and a secondary if you have a char that isn't used much. like someone who will sit back at HQ and wait for the injured and damaged to limp back to start healing/repairing. But.. what do you all think?

Thorne

For a start, I am good with one; if this blossoms out, I might build a second, but I'd stick with one to start.

Ailis is ten pounds of trouble in a five pound package, and she's mostly good at finishing what she starts; if not always in the way someone expects. An odd 'Mech suits her, and it /was/ my first choice. ^^;

Good to see the old gang back together :-) - I'm always up for another shot at some Battletech RP.

Should I go dust off Alroy again and see if we can make this iteration of the story stick? Or will we be better off leaving the old King Crab behind and making someone new?

Sara Nilsson

hey glyphy. Your call :) I made a new char due to Gming and i don't remember my old one that well ^^ laughs.

TheGlyphstone

Ol' Crabcakes it is, then, since no one seems to have expressed interest in playing a Heavy slot. He'll be a bit of an oddball amidst all the Light/Recon pilots, but that's half the fun. ;D

Sara Nilsson

well espendabelle is leaning towards a heavy :) but two heavies wont be a prob.

TheGlyphstone

Heavy and Assault technically, but that just lets us play anvil and hammer, which is never a poor strategy when you've got plenty of Lights running around to be bird-dogs.

Sara Nilsson

fair enough yes :) I always tend to lump them into "slow lumbering monsters".. does my tendency to love the light mechs shine through? ^^ lol

TheGlyphstone

Light mechs are more fun in general, yeah. But I do want to try and give Alroy a chance to actually tell his story, which is pretty inextricably interwined with KGC#079.

I fully expect your Commander to share your own bias towards Light mechs, which will make it even more fun. ;D The slow lumbering monsters might be necessary sometimes, but she doesn't have to like having them around.

Sara Nilsson

Well they are handy to have around so the enemy doesn't shoot at the lighter ones :) Or the cute tanks. *pets one of the tanks* who is a good tank.. oh yes you are!! let the mechs get all the glory, we are the ones that get shit done..

eh.. nevermind me ^^

oh I expect her to complain about the cost in new armour all the time. "think you can be hit less next time? these things are not cheap!"

Thorne

*snert* I think she's going to have a reason to yell at most of the crew. Ailis has exotic hardware, the heavies keep losing their protective shells, nobody pays attention to the tanks ... she won't lack for targets.

And Marauders are nasty customers. *sage nod*

If I went with the Warrior, that would give us an augmented  recon lance with some SERIOUS back-up.

Hussar, Spider, Raven VTOL Harrior for air support and a King Crab, Marauder and a Manticore company to close the trap when the recon lance falls back....

just laughs.

Man I need to phone my military friends and ask for some good insults to throw around at this pace ^^

Shaping up well so far :) I am pleasantly surprised people where interested. Ill get to work on some more writing on it all tomorrow and see if I can get an OOC up and running. I think a short before action intro where we can have a chat and have the last few people finish up their chars and join us

You know Ive played too many Mechwarrior vidja games when I can see this being rendered as a pregame cinematic. Lights fleeing through terrain with an angry Clan star in pursuit, 'retreat' into a dead end defensive position. Clanners take the bait, heavies power up under camo behind them.
