So happy to see that there's interest! ^^

Yes, we are indeed still recruiting. Players may write up character profiles for approval and once approved they can start posting in whichever thread they belong in.

At the moment we're looking to mainly fill in the missing positions (Adviser of Myth and Mixed, Head Servant of Myth) though there are always other positions that may be filled in as well (such as Human Commander, etc). There is also a sort of rebel faction that may or may not actually form into a group. At the moment it consists of just Hideko (played by myself) and...well, that's it. Of course, details of plot and whatnot can always be figured out later once the character's profile has been accepted. ^^

Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! =)

They are purest blue colors, and they are the sign of the coming spring. With her best friend and big brother gone for good she started training right away, keeping herself from thinking to much while hiding the pain and anger that had filled her heart. With daily routins of nothing but eating, training, and sleeping her life of being a child came to a complete halt, along with any fun that may have gone along with it.

It wasn't until she met a man who was traveling through their city with his sensei did she take the time to become curious enough to break away from her stupor to find out who this strange man was.Not quite sure how to take him at first with the way that he appeared, she approached him cautiously for the first time before finding out that she liked the man quite well, causing them to become good friends in the end.

Looking forward to each and everyone of his visits,Ling would keep herself busy with her training while waiting for Tai to return so she could show him how much she was growing up and coming into her own.It wasn't until his visits came to a complete halt that she again was heart broken and became a recluse to everyone but her family, vowing that she would never get close enough to anyone again to get hurt.

Welcome back to the game, TamaRose. Lord Drake is indeed still playing as the Mixed Lord as listed on the first post.

Of course, any subplots and the like that you'd like to plan out with him you are more than welcome to do so, just keep in mind that major subplots that may affect the main storyline please bring them to my attention first.

Feel free to catch up with the Mixed House thread and make your opening post. All thread links can be found on the first post of the recruitment thread, or found on the first post of the OOC thread.

Not a problem Imogen =) Take your time ^^

First draft

Name: Zhuang Feng
Age: ancient
Race: Smoke Spirit/Enenra
Household: Myth
Position: Advisor

Weapons/Abilities:

Weapons:

The twin blades of fire and air: A gorgeous set of curved blades, where one is for destruction, the other for defense. When Zhuang Feng is in his true form both blades shimmer in and out of existence, as unpredictable as fire and wind. While in their ethereal shape, they pierce easily through solid matter, but won’t do any damage until they solidify.

Abilities:

Fire journey: Zhuang Feng can travel instantly from any place where a fire is lit and re-emerge from the flames.

Smoke screen: Zhuang Feng can turn wind into a thick, unnatural fog, impairing the sight of those within at its weakest level to cutting off the air inside when Zhuang Feng exerts more power.

Invisibility: Zhuang Feng can literally vanish into thin air, a wisp of smoke is seen briefly when he disappears and appears.

Although Zhuang Feng isn’t a fighter at heart, he believes strongly in the supremacy of the Myths, considering the humans as little more than erring children who will need to be looked after for their own good. After all, look at the mess they made when left alone for a little while: wars, bloodshed, careless regard for ancient knowledge… It won’t do. These fools need a guiding hand.

In general, he will try to solve matters through diplomacy first, but isn’t opposed to dishing out punishment with a heavy hand if he feels the situation demands such. Like the fire he was born from, he is quick to anger and slow to cool. Fortunately, when his fiery temper is provoked, he is at his best; he thinks quicker, reacts faster and more alert when the flames spark. Although he lives on the edge of his skin, Zhuang Feng does have a sound judgement, especially when it comes to tactics.

Appearance:
True form :  In his true form Zhuang Feng appears as tendrils of smoke to most. The vague outline of his human form can only be seen by those pure of heart, which essentially means most of the Myths and very few others.

Human form: a lithe male with long, black hair often tied in a pony tail and a thin moustache. In non-combat situations he prefers loose fitting clothes, often wearing highly contrasting colors that make him look like a peacock at times. He has a special fondness for cloaks, in particular the billowing ones with embroidery of flames, or animals in motion.

Personality:
Zhuang Feng is quite vain and enjoys flattery, both giving and receiving. This might have something to do with his humble start as a mere household spirit in human homes. There is little he enjoys more than a challenge, be it intellectual or physical and he is often found studying old records, finding improved solutions for ancient puzzles when no new nibbles present themselves. He abhors boredom, and can’t sit still for any decent amount of time. When he is thinking, he is often found pacing which makes him hard to converse with at times.

Ever restless, and with a fiery temper to boot, Zhuang Feng can be a handful to deal with on a bad day, but his fierce loyalty is well known and he will fight to do the death for those he considers kin.

Biography:
Zhuang Feng was born when the first flame was sparked, rising in a wisp of smoke towards the heavens. Travelling from camp fire to camp fire, he has watched the humans grow from grunting barbarians to the fierce race they are now. He has watched their rise, and their mistake, and has witnessed their day to day cruelties in their very households. He watched them from hunting animals for survival to hunting each other for dominance, and when another village was burned to the ground over childish quarrels, Zhuang Feng emerged from the flames and passed judgement on the attackers.

Sorely disappointed in the humans, Zhuang Feng retreated to the most remote fires he could find, spending several hundred years in a volcano after the humans had irritated him beyond endurance, Zhuang Feng finally found the newly risen home of the Myths and the fires within. Here he was at home, and he set to work using his talents to assist his kin. While at first, there were mere menial tasks for him to perform, his knowledge of humankind became known and he rose within the ranks, sharing his views to the advantage of the Myths.

Hm, the only key spot that we're missing now is the Human Captain...all other positions are optional to fill out (though the more the merrier).

If the position isn't filled yet, I'd be interested in filling out a character for the Myths Captain of the Guard slot.  I've read through this whole thread, the character thread, and the first post of the OOC thread, if the slot is still available, than I can start reading the Myths thread itself in order to see what kind of character would fit best in that position.

Well, technically the position is still available I suppose...mostly because I had removed it from the roster due to lack of interest and not enough people filling in the more vital roles needed.

At the moment the only spot that truly needs to be filled would be that of the Human Captain. However, if that role does not interest you then I wouldn't mind in the least if you made a character for the Captain of the Guard.

Also, I really appreciate your interest and taking the time to read through everything! ^^

Actually, I'm Myth Captain of the Guard!  At least, I was the last time I checked!  ;D

Esoteric Myobi

Actually, in the original (first attempt) of this game, there were two 'Captain's per house. One that overlooked the overall duties, and one Captain of the Guard that basically controlled the Elite squad and acted as bodyguards with the Head's safety as their priority. While the overall Captain took care of house security and the like.

Similar but different, I'll let the two of you discuss I suppose. =)

Alright, thanks for clarifying.  I believe I had made Namazu as whichever one would be stationed closest to the Head, as the terms of her service disallow him from straying too far from Myth Lands unescorted.

Actually, I could create a character for the position of Humans Captain position, but since the Humans are held more strictly to social customs and rituals, a female Captain didn't really seem feasible to me.  But if it where to be allowed, than I would love to create a character for that slot.

And rest assured, if I had decided to create a character for one of the Myths Captain of the Guards, than it would have been the more general one ;)

Also, reading through most of the threads is just something I do in order to get a steady perception of a game that's already started.  It would be embarrassing other wise :)

Hmmm, I wonder can I create char to this game, if there is room that is. But my concept would be a 'rebellious' human who has ongoing long term vendetta towards myths.

I thinked play him out as a man who lost his his wife (who was half-kitsune, a fox wife) to whimsical behavior of a myth who was not punished at all from transgression (because act of rape/kill of a mixed who was outsider of mixed house was not considered 'important' enough warrant punishment from the deed). So, this event caused my char resent to whole present 'power structure' and myths (and henceworth he does not belong any of the three houses). He has nothing against humans nor mixed but if either one steps in his way they are cut down.

Human house could consider 'recruit' him because even if he originally was skilled swordsmith he had become in years of his vendetta a man who carries nick name 'god slayer' because he have forged weapon which reflects his defiant unrelenting will slay myths. Plus his several encounters with lower ranked myths have sharpened his skills which have gradually increased to 'non-human' level. Or as he calls it; 'I have just reached towards true potential humans could reach if they try hard enough'.

While Mixed house could feel symphaty for him and try coerce him not going target any Myth house members, perhaps even find way how stop his vendetta peaceful manner (while non-house members myths are not accetable either but there is less consequences for killing them expect if they happen die enlarge and they start beg protection of the house against the man's attacks).

Hui-Fen Yeung Yan

Name: Hui-Fen Yeung Yan
Age: 26
Race: Human
Household: Human
Position: Captain of Humans
Orientation: Straight
Weapons: Hui-Fen was taught at an early age, the intricate value and magic that can run through even the most seemingly mundane piece of steel or weapon.  And as such she especially names all that she carries in battle or in every day life.

Xun/Wan - Double Tiger Head Hook Swords, Both Xun and Wan where given to her by her eldest brother when she turned Eight years old.  He trained her hard until she was able to master them flawlessly.  They are to her, twin souls caught in cold steel, and they accompany her everywhere she goes.

Shui/Tao - Dao, while Hui-Fen isn't as adept in this weapons use as she is with Xun and Wan, she can still boast at being more than highly skilled in it's use. Shui and Tao are only used in battle; the rest of the time they are held safely locked away in her room, only taken out in battle or when she needs to practice with them.

Chen - Yumi, Trying to round out her education in weaponry, Hui-Fen's father hired a tutor to teach her the art of long distance weaponry.  Surprisingly she was able to master the use of the Yumi, a bow that is much longer than her own frame.  This weapon is kept along side Shui and Tao when not in use.

Appearance: Tall and lithe, Hui-Fen's body resembles that of a man more than a woman's should.  This can be blamed on her long years of training diligently and keeping to a strict diet that in effect caused her to be stunted in developing the soft curves of a woman.  Although this is the case, her training has also caused her to be rather talented in the art of being graceful, and well balanced.  To see her in battle is to see a completely captivating show of artful and deadly grace, which contrast's nicely with the calm fluid movements shown when she is at rest.

Although, her calm countenance can be intriguing, Hui-Fen's vigorous, no non-sense visage is also one that cannot be easily forgotten.  She can strut, run, fight, and most of all talk like a man when necessary, and in times of war, she can easily be mistaken as a man rather than the woman she is.  This doesn't bother her, as she was often called a boy growing up by her brothers and other male relatives.  It was in fact only by the grace of her Grandmother that she was taught all the rituals and routines a woman should know.

Her long straight as a pin midnight black hair falls gracefully down her back, reaching right to the small of her back.  When in battle or in training it's bound and kept neatly out of the way, but in times of peace it's left flowing in the wind.  Her eyes, are darker than most, almost reaching a similar black as her hair, but this is a trait passed down by her mothers family, a people of wandering gypsy like acrobats that made their way in life by performing for the hungry masses.  Her skin is oddly lily white, despite all the time she spends in the sun training, and it's flawless nature exudes the beauty many would associate with the pearls that can be found in the surrounding waters that cushion the land they walk on.  She spends a lot of time trying to keep her hands soft, and elegant, but no matter what her years of rough fighting with and without weapons have taken their toll, and she could never truly be considered a lady now; not with the peasant like roughness of her hands.Despite all this, when unclothed, she is still unmistakeably a woman, even with her small breasts, lack of curves, and rough hands.

Personality: Hui-Fen is an odd mixture of being highly masculine when on duty, and very feminine when she is not.  She has an inherent grace that follows her everywhere she goes though, accompanying her when in battle to create a deadly accuracy, and when just strolling around to create a beauty that she could not exhibit when growing up.

When with her men, she is brash and loud, willing to run around and fight, as if she where a man herself.  She works harder, and longer than most would be willing to do in order to prove that a woman can be just as talented as a man.  But even while doing this she doesn't dare over step her place.  She knows that physically she is a woman, and when not doing her duty, shows subservience where it is due.  That being said, she also knows how to command respect, and will not tolerate anyone besmirching her name.

Biography: Hui-Fen grew up in an odd household, Her Fathers people where proud and well acknowledged warriors, famous for their prowess in battle and the many sons born into the household.  In fact no daughters had ever been born under that roof until Hui-Fen herself came out kicking and screaming.  Her mothers people where traveling folk, people who earned their living by performing and who didn't really have any value in their names except the one that was only important to other traveling performers.

The day Hui-Fen's father married her mother, was said to call down bad omens on the family, and Hui-Fens birth was proof of that.  Before her, her mother had birthed seven boys, but the moment Hui-Fen entered the world, no other children would be fated to be born.  Being exiled to one of the outer houses, her mother was kept away from the main house, and from her children.

Although she was born a female, to keep away unwanted demons or myths(which where said to target any female born under the Yan roof), she was treated and acknowledged as a boy.  Her Grandmother, being less believing in that particular superstition decided to teach her the womanly arts in secret, adamant in the decision that no girl of hers would be lacking in these skills.  So during the day she trained, and trained hard; while at night she took lessons with her Grandmother until the candles went out.

It was soon apparent that Hui-Fen was more than a little talented, she excelled in everything taught to her, and soon even surpassed her elder brothers.  Despite this, her Father refused to acknowledge her talent, claiming that any special attention given to her would cause the evil myths to see through her boyish guise and strike vengeance down on their roof.

When Hui-Fen turned 16 she followed her brothers into the family profession and joined in with the kings army.  And even though he was soon over thrown, she decided to stay and serve the new ruling head.  But out of the overpowering eyes of her families house, she washed off her guise of being a man, and instead decided to just be herself, even if she still acted more like a man than a woman at times.

undisclosedtoyou: I love the profile. Technically, yes, it would have been better if the Captain of the Humans was played by a male character. However, I'm not about to turn down a perfectly good profile. ^^

Zaer Darkwail: Hm interesting proposal. I was taking some time thinking on just how to fully incorporate such a character into the storyline and I'm thinking that perhaps he would do best in the city thread since he's not affiliated with any house? Perhaps he can interact with my other character Hideko, since ultimately she will possibly be visiting the Myth House -- a goal that may interest your character? We can work things out via PM if you'd like, or you can write up a character profile first and we can go from there.

Well, I did think up a solution to this when writing my character out, just in case a female would be too outlandish for this position.   Technically I've built her up that she can pass as a man, I just have to change the history, and a few other things to reflect that even after she left her fathers house she kept the guise of a man.  She may not be as strong as a fully trained man, but she makes up for it in her skills with most weapons and her ability to out maneuver most men.  I sorta like this idea because than I can make it so that she carries the same superstitious attitude as the rest of her family, even if it's a bit ridiculous.  I don't know if anyone would actually be aware of her actual sex, but I wouldn't be against having one or two people knowing.

Name: Jui Makeda
Age: 30
Race: Human
Household: None
Position: None (wandering bushi)
Weapons/Abilities:

Thousand forged blade: When Jui's wife was killed after she had been raped by myth in grief Jui swore seek revenge on myths for their sin of arrogance and pride. He had months ago accuired strange meteoric ore which he had saved up to forge blade which he shall sell for their new house.....he started experiment ore and work on day and night to try forge blade of vengeance out from it. But even his best forge would not let melt the ore despite how much he heated it!

Then when he ran out of fire wood only body of his wife remained, it would take hours get firewood into forge and forge would turn. With hard resolve he threw his half-myth wife into fires of the forge and let it consume her body, only then finally ore started to melt! Jui was skilled weaponsmith and so besides knowing how to craft weapons he knew how to use it. But in confusion he had not thinked what weapon he will forge out?!

So he forged weapon, changed mind and remelt and reforged the blade. The flame which had consumed his wife did not never go out until weapon was finished. But when weapon was finished it game hideously ugly katana. Despite his greatest failure as weaponsmith he took the ugly blade and headed off to seek his revenge......this was ten years ago. Eversince then the blade had earned nickname 'thousand forged blade'. Not because of way it was created, but it literally can transform into thousand different weapons!

Somehow burning his wife, using meteoric iron and ancient mythical craft prayers bind his own spirit and soul to blade have made the weapon several powerful charms. Firstly blade is bound directly to spirit of Jui, blade cannot be broken any fashion nor even if he is disarmed the blade quickly returns to his hand. Only way to break the blade is to break his spirit. So in essence; break the blade to kill him or kill Jui's spirit to break the blade. Besides unbreakable and never leaving his hands by unwilling methods the blade overtime transforms. Whenever Jui fights foe his sword slowly changes form, firstly mass and size changes during the combat. Altough default form is ugly one bladed katana, over time it can turn into spear, axe, mace, dagger or any imaginable weapon. Transformation occurs based on abilities of the foe, as if sword is carefully measuring foe's strenght and then transform into perfect weapon defeat it.

Once mass and size and form is right, the ugly weapon's surface starts to crack and reveal the full transformed weapon out under from thick layer of rust and metal waste matter. Once transformation is complete the weapon in question will be a magical weapon with some magical qualities which help defeat/injure myth in question. Example figthing myth with strong ice element myth (with vulrenabillity to fire) may make weapon transform into weapon which has fire element magics imbued to it. Besides this weapon Jui possess only longbow with holy script enchanted arrows which can harm spirits, ghosts and weaker Myths.

Resilient Body: Thanks connection to his blade Jui's body takes affinity from the blade and as side result his body has become very resilient to harm. Most non-magical weapons wielded by mortals cause no harm to his body (while mortal using magical weapon can cause harm but only little if invidual lacks skill and strenght), only Myths can harm him with non-magical weapons but they need hit solidly and powerfully against his body to do so. Example attacks which cause fine bleeding cuts would cause mere scratches on his skin, attacks which would cut off his arm off would only cut a deep bleeding wound. Myth with magical weapon can cause injuries more easily but still need extend more power and accuracy than normally needed still (but considerably less than myths who use non-magical weapons).

Ward vs Myths: Blade also bestows ward on Jui against powers of Myths. It gives him passive resistance against magical attacks of Myths, reducing overall effect of the attacks but he can be harmed if Myth goes all way with their attack but as side result it causes Myth spend a much more mystical powers than needed to create same result.

Experienced God-slayer: Jui over the years have developed keen knowlegde of measuring Myths powers by glance and also learn and study in combat his foes to find limits of their powers or how they work by observing them (and then try find a way exploit any weaknesses they have). Also in close combat Jui shows incredible prowess (for a human). He have surprised many martial skilled myths with close combat prowess what he have learned over the years. He is able to enter into special sort trance which allows him attack and react faster than humans should able to and also make his attacks hit harder. This prowess is entirely Jui tapping on mental reserves of human mind what most cannot ever do. After all humans only use tiny portion of their mind and spirit in their whole lives, and Jui has just learned tap more. But this trance has draw back; he cannot concentrate on it very long time and side effect is that his body goes beyond natural limits, so after he stops his trance he is wracked with incredible pain and make him unable to continue to fight for while as his muscles are disjointed or hurt from over extension of 'natural' limit.

Appearance: Jui looks like average peasant, handsome sort but still someone who blends to crowd easily with his dark worn clothes and messy hair held in top knot and grown short beard and moustache.
Personality: Jui is quite polite and calm invidual, even towards Myths which he hunts. He does not talk much about himself or his past but if Myth asks why he figths it he simply replies it's for revenge, towards all myths. But he does not explain reason for his revenge, as he sees it pointless (as he believes no Myth would feel symphaty for the tale, nor even help him find retribution to the myth responsible for horrible deed). Years in road have hardened his resolve and made many think him as 'cold hearted' man but truth is that he accepts world is cruel place and as he had endured with his pain he expects same from others (what comes to troubles of life).
Biography: Jui Makeda was born to farming peasant community, but he disliked his life as farmer's son and dreamed to become a great warrior! But as he was born to his caste he had no chance to become a warrior......but his father who saw his son's burning desires asked old friend arrange his son place under tutorlage of half-myth weaponsmith. The weaponsmith known as Pao of Firestar (a half-kitsune) taught craft of weaponsmith to Jui since he was four years old. Years Jui spend in the forges of Pao, studying and crafting daily thousand blades as standard. Of course invidually thousand blades were fit only to rank and file soldiers and once a month he crafted weapon which took a day to make, suited more to captains of legions who used one weapons made other days.

Once every six months years Jui was tasked in crafting blade which took a month to make, those were suited only to half-myth warriors. Jui learned to be very relaible crafter and expectional gifted for human (Pao always suspected he had Myth ancestor somewhere). But thanks being human he lacked magic, mana, to craft truly magical blades (so far his only magical weapon is 'thousand forged blade' and he probably acquired needed magic for it through lingering spirit residing in his wife's corpse which was used fuel forge's fires).

Pao had daugther, a half-myth like himself. Daugther was called Yoa of Southern Wind. Yoa was young woman when Jui came apprentice as boy, she spend years talking and interacting with young apprentice much for charging of Pao who thought mortal and half-myth pairing ill idea. But Yoa fell genuinely in love for Jui and when Jui finished his apprenticeship after fourteen years he proposed her! Pao however was against it and he tasked Jui craft blade to one member of the half-myth House with approval. Jui worked a year over the project and he succeed craft suitable weapon for his customer. Pao likewise accepted and only then granted permission wed his daugther.

A year of happiness followed between Jui and Yoa who lived in own house high in mountains where Jui worked as weaponsmith. But then unkwon reason after a business trip down to village he was blocked to enter near his home! By a mysterious mist which constantly missled him! When mist was lifted he reached home in time see distant flying figure....a masked Myth, depart his house! When he entered house he found Yoa dead, raped, clothes torn off and her throat sliced open! Jui was crushed by the sight and then and there he made his oath, then worked over a month crafting his blade and end result being ugly but with grim determination he started his journey. His eventual goal is to 'banish' all Myths back to dimension where they come from, never to return mortal world ever again.

I redid Hui-Fens character bio, to reflect that she disguises herself as a man.  Because of this change I had to change her name to Shen Fai Yan, which is the male name she goes by so people wouldn't guess her true gender.  Her pics where also changed to show that she looks a bit more in-between, so it's more realistic that she can be taken as a man.  Very little was actually done to her info to reflect the change, so it's still very much the same character, with just a slight twist added to her.

Shen Fai Yan

Real Name: Hui-Fen Yeung Yan
Age: 26
Race: Human
Household: Human
Position: Captain of Humans
Orientation: Straight
Weapons: Shen Fai was taught at an early age, the intricate value and magic that can run through even the most seemingly mundane piece of steel or weapon.

Shui/Tao - Dao, while Shen Fai isn't as adept in this weapons use as she is with Xun and Wan, she can still boast at being more than highly skilled in it's use. Shui and Tao are only used in battle; the rest of the time they are held safely locked away in her room, only taken out in battle or when she needs to practice with them.

Wei - Yumi, Trying to round out her education in weaponry, Shen Fai's father hired a tutor to teach her the art of long distance weaponry.  Surprisingly she was able to master the use of the Yumi, a bow that is much longer than her own frame.  This weapon is kept along side Shui and Tao when not in use.

Appearance: Tall and lithe, Shen Fai's body resembles that of a man more than a woman's should.

Although, her calm countenance can be intriguing, Shen Fai's vigorous, no non-sense visage is also one that cannot be easily forgotten.

Personality: Shen Fai has an inherent grace that follows her everywhere she goes, accompanying her when in battle to create a deadly accuracy, and when just strolling around to create an odd beauty that passes as decadence to those around her.

When with her men, she is brash and loud, willing to run around and fight, which comes naturally as if she where really a man herself.  She works hard, and long, more than what many would be willing to do in order to keep up with her training, even while not at home.  Shen Fai knows that if her secret is revealed not only will dishonor come raining down on her family home, but the Myth's her family fear will know that she's a woman and come to collect on her soul.  A belief that is actually very silly and doesn't really hold any merit as far as Shen Fai or her other relatives know for sure.  But she is a superstitious woman who is playing at being a man, and will do everything she can to keep her true gender a secret.

Biography: Shen Fai grew up in an odd household, Her Fathers people where proud and well acknowledged warriors, famous for their prowess in battle and the many sons born into the household.  In fact no daughters had ever been born under that roof until Shen Fai herself came out kicking and screaming.

Her mothers people where traveling folk, people who earned their living by performing acrobatic displays with weapons of any and every kind.  They didn't really have any value in their name except the one that was only important to other traveling performers.

The day Shen Fai's father married her mother, was said to call down bad omens on the family, and Shen Fai's birth was proof of that.  Before her, her mother had birthed seven boys, but the moment Shen Fai entered the world, no other children would be fated to be born.  Being exiled to one of the outer houses, her mother was kept away from the main house, and from her children.

Although she was born a female, and really name Hui-Fen, to keep away unwanted demons or myths(which where said to target any female born under the Yan roof), she was treated and acknowledged as a boy, and she was called Shen Fai to fool the watchful Myth's.  Her Grandmother, being less believing in that particular superstition decided to teach her the womanly arts in secret, adamant in the decision that no girl of hers would be lacking in these skills.  So during the day she trained, and trained hard; while at night she took lessons with her Grandmother until the candles went out.

It was soon apparent that Shen Fai was more than a little talented, she excelled in everything taught to her, and soon even surpassed her elder brothers.  Despite this, her Father refused to acknowledge her talent, claiming that any special attention given to her would cause the evil myths to see through her boyish guise and strike vengeance down on their roof.

When Shen Fai turned 16 she followed her brothers into the family profession and joined in with the kings army.  And even though he was soon over thrown, she decided to stay and serve the new ruling head.  Now out from under the watchful eyes of her family, she kept the guise of a man, too afraid of the Myths to allow herself to be revealed as a woman.
