Description
Alanah stands at about 5'9", with a lean and slenter, but not overly athletic build. She has dark brown hair that flows down almost to half her back. It is often tied up, it's loose curls giving it plenty of volume. Her eyes are black as bottomless pools, typical traits of a Betazoid. She has decent curves to her, all very proportional with her petite frame.

Personality
Serene would be a good way to describe Alanah. She is not easily excitable, but the same can be said for other strong emotions like fear and anger. To make her angry to the point of showing it takes a lot and even then it isn't as explosive as it could be; she becomes cold and cutting rather than yelling and flailing. She is a strong woman, and she would have had the necessary spine to climb higher within Starfleet but lacks the ambition. She wants to stick to plants, rather than to have people's lives into her hands. Coming from a matriarchal society, Alanah will not bend easily before men, though she would not challenge a superior officer only because he is male.
Alanah is a very friendly person, easy-going and very chatty at times. Although her telepathy let her catch glimpses of people's less honest side, she loves people as much in observing them as in interacting with them. She also speaks to plants, which can strike some people as odd at times. She has a fondness for music although she has no talent with it, whether it is playing an instrument or singing. God forbid that she sing, even in her shower, or she would give the comparison between her and a swan a very definite truth to it. She may move like one, graceful and poised, but she also happens to sing like one.
She is gifted, as far as her racial attributes are concerned. She is a full telepath, and she is not afraid to use it. However on board of the ship, she handles whatever thoughts she might gleam very discreetly and with a strong ethic. She would hate if people put their nose in her business uninvited, and tries not to put her own nose into theirs. The only exception to this would be if it she catches thoughts that compromises the security of the ship. She would have no qualms to report a traitor before he committed the deed, even if it's just to have security keep a look on them.
History
Born and raised in a rather poor district, Alanah spent her younger years as careless as every other children of the area. She played without a worry of what was happening home, oblivious to the downhill slide her parents were set upon. Alanah's mother had been raised in a much more comfortable home, in the capital. Something had happened then that had made her family fall into disgrace and lose everything they had. The fall from rich to poor had affected the woman greatly, making her long for the comfort of her old home and the failure of her marriage to being that level of comfort back into her life had made her bitter. Still, Alanah was never conscious of the negative side of her parent's marriage until she was in her teens.
Already rather beautiful, Alanah was attracting the attention of the wrong sorts. She did not hang out with the wrong crowds but it happened none the less. With a thing for the bad boys, she got in trouble more than once. Set on getting Alanah on the right path, her mother sent her to be schooled abroad with the little money she had left. There, she learned to control her telepathy, but also change some of her behavior. Being sent away was much of a shock, but it was what she needed. It is during the two years that she spent at this school that Alanah discovered her intuitive understanding of plants.
As soon as she was given the opportunity, she joined Starfleet Academy. The idea of exploring the universe was interesting enough, and to learn about more than just Betazed's plants was too tempting. Her years at the Academy were eye-opening on several levels. Secluded on a small area of Betazed, Alanah had never really pondered the different cultures out there and how some of them were at opposites to her own. Rather than to resist and judge, however, she opened her mind and learned. She did decently in all of her classes, sometimes with passing grades, other times more successful. She was never one to party or to give in to the pleasure of the flesh with the humans or other humanoid races unless she felt particularly needy. So she studied much and worked hard in classes that mattered to her. Ecology, biology, flora and fauna of the different world. There, she came out top of her classes at every turn even if elsewhere she was the most average student.
She was surprised, but quite pleased, to receive her assignment to the U.S.S. Argus. The assignment, although it was supposed to be a four year long assignment, was short lived. Something in the dynamic of the leading crew went horribly wrong and the ship was ordered to come back home to be replaced by another. Thinking it didn't concern her much, she kept doing her work as if she would not be pulled away, but on the day of the arrival at the station she was handed a sheet that requested her to move out of her quarters and to the U.S.S Enterprise. Her good work on board had not gone unnoticed and the rank of commander for which she had worked hard was given to her, along with the title of head botanist. She would be in charge of the arboretum there. It is without a look back that she left the Argus and the quarreling crew, in hopes that the U.S.S. Enterprise would be better.
