Guidelines and Localized Rules

It is impossible to codify every bit of cultural etiquette that this site has accumulated over the past four years. Knowing that, we try to be forgiving about most minor problems, and please take reminders and suggestions accordingly. Being asked to 'please not do something' is not the end of the world. You can always get a staff member to clarify an issue if you have a problem with someone else - even another staff member.

The guidelines here are meant to expand upon and clarify the rules. Gross violations will get you banned all the same. If you prefer a more 'lite' community, you may wish to check out Blue Moon Role Playing instead.

Words to Live By

Try to work things out. The first step is to resolve things with your fellow members. Usually, all it takes is being direct and, sometimes, blunt. If that does not or can not work, then you may take it to staff.
The privileges you are granted here are privileges, treat them accordingly. This includes, but is not limited to, deleting posts, editing posts, private messages, and the shoutbox. Remember that you have agreed to allow us to host the material you post here indefinitely, though we do listen to reasonable deletion requests.
Elliquiy is not a meat market. We sponsor Personal Roleplaying for a place more formally tolerant of forming intermember relationships, especially for master/owner-slave/pet pairings.
Elliquiy is not a mental health institution. If your issues are such that you continually disrupt the social fabric of this site, you may also be asked to leave.
Innocent until proven guilty. We will not be incited into a witch hunt. If you are consistently vague and accusatory you may be the one banned.
Do not deceive. We do not appreciate deceptive tactics for people to pull their hijinks - for intention, relationships, or whatever. We are not talking about most April fool's pranks or telling the creepy guy you live on the wrong side of the planet, but do not perpetuate harmful illusions.

In General

This is an English community. Spell out your words, and avoid chatspeak - 'you', 'are', 'two, too and to', and so on. If someone asks you to translate or explain an acronym, please do so.
The rules - especially these guidelines - are not meant to be used as a club. One reminder, from one person, should be enough. Do not gang up on people.
Elliquiy is a big place, with a lot of people. Mistakes happen, misunderstandings happen, life happens. If you cannot keep your cool, walk away and take a breath.
When debating, watch the sarcasm, watch the sardonics, and mind your facts and logic. A lot of people consider Elliquiy to be more intellectual and high-class than other adult forums. We intend to keep that reputation, whether or not you feel it is your personal right to be an ass.
If you cannot be civil or polite to someone, please make use of the ignore list on your account.
We have a policy where you can request that another member no longer contact you. If you do this, your request for non-contact must be 1) the only content of the message and 2) it goes both ways. Please copy a staff member when you do this, in order to make it official.

Signatures and Avatars

Avatars may be up to 150 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall. Signature images must be hosted on Elliquiy (through our wiki), and are currently limited to 100 pixels tall and 500 wide. The entire size of the signature box is limited to a height of 120 pixels.
Avatars and signatures are considered 'public'. Though they can be racy or suggestive, genitalia, gore, and advertisements are to be avoided. Keep in mind that lcd screens bring out a lot more contrast in dark regions - you may want to take some time to make sure that a 'dark' region really is black.
You may link to your site in your signature as long as 1) The site links back to us, 2) It is not a pay site, and 3) It is not a referral or affiliate link.

The Wiki

If you upload files to the wiki, please make a note in the summary about how you would like to see that image used - whether people can use it freely or if it is only for a specific person.
If the above is not available, and you find an image on the wiki that you would like to use, you can view the original uploader of the file at the bottom of the page. Contact them to see if your intended use is appropriate.
In the event that the above is violated, please be civil if you object to the use.
For the most part, we consider non-original images uploaded to the Elliquiy wiki to be transformative. That is, they are generally presented as inspirational material, displayed to a private audience, to drive stories and/or discussion, or are significantly downsampled to be displayed as avatars and/or signature lines. This also means - to put it bluntly - that Elliquiy's wiki is not a porn stash. Upload the items that will enhance your stories or discussion if they are not your own.
Please name your files descriptively and meaningfully. Elliquiy is not a chan.

The Shoutbox

The purpose of the shoutbox is to provide a means of assisting new members as well as a general chat area. Please do not monopolize it.
The Shoutbox was not intended as a place to poke people for private messages or posts. Instant messengers are better for that, anyway.
If you get into extended exchange with someone - whether an argument or steamier - please take it to a thread, private messages, or instant messenger. If people ask you to take something out of the shoutbox, that should be a hint.
Keep in mind that anyone and everyone can see it. It is a very visible facet of the site. Intentionally trying to squick people out or otherwise being intentionally offensive may get you a warning or boot from the shoutbox.

IRC

#Elliquiy's purpose, defined, is to serve as 1) Recruitment, 2) New member support, 3) A place for status updates in case of an outage, and 4) A general chat / hangout. As with the shoutbox, please don't monopolize it. We have #Ellirants and #Ellounge for arguments, rants, and getting steamy, above and beyond the fact that you can make your own channels.
Again, as with the shoutbox, if people ask you to take an exchange outside of #Elliquiy, that should be a hint.
We have other channels for various purposes - we plan to have eggdrop running before long to allow a more formal setup, but we much prefer to keep #Elliquiy proper focused on its purpose. Again, nothing stops you from making your own channel.

Small Games Forums

You may have a number of threads equal to twice the number of participants (players and gms).
Use the same tag to start each thread title, for example [Home of the Horny Housemaids] for your game.
If your game gets over a thousand posts, please contact a Goddess or God so we can make a forum for you. Any Siren, Satyr or Sidhe can help you move your threads.
