Elliquiy Questionnaire
« on: February 20, 2011, 01:53:24 PM »
Welcome to Elliquiy!

Click here and open this link in a new window or tab <- this will take you to starting your Introduction thread here while still being able to reading the rest of this.

This thread of yours will help us get to know you a bit (you, not your favourite character), and also helps members determine who is 'their type' - we like to make people's sexuality clear here, in order to avoid awkward situations down the road.

Our Questions
  • Sex - Your real sex. (you should set this in your profile after getting accepted). This determines whether you get accepted as a Lord, Lady, or Liege (for transgenders, intersex, etc). This determines a number of minor things on this site.  You are not required to reveal your 'other' status if you do not wish to, but since a number of sensitive discussions take place within various membergroups, we dislike changing them after approval.
  • A confirmation that you are over eighteen (18) years of age. You don't need to give your birth date, but some people like to make anecdotes about their age - remembering presidencies or other events.
  • An acknowledgment that you have read the rules and understand them. If you do not understand one or more rules, please bring them up in the introduction and ask.
  • Your native language(s).  What language(s) do you speak? List your primary language first and include all others in order of fluency. Elliquiy is an English speaking community but it is also a global one.  We welcome members from all over the world.
  • Tell us how you found us, please? A link from another site, another member, a search engine phrase...
  • What is your preferred method of roleplay? Examples would be: IM (instant messenger), PM (private message), emails (aka PbEM), forums, IRC, etc.
  • How do you feel about males writing as female characters or females writing as male characters? Do you do this yourself? Would you write with someone who is doing this? (If you are transgendered or intersex, feel free to adapt this question appropriately.)
  • Your sexual preferences (as in, homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, we also take pansexual, omnisexual, etc as answers) This of course is another important question - we don't want to put you in a situation that you aren't comfortable with.
    • How do you feel about sexualities besides your own? Please elaborate on your answer.
  • Your sexual nature. Dominant, submissive, switch, neither, unsure, be a bit explanatory. Elliquiy has a large BDSM community, but also many members that eschew such things.
    • Are you willing to accept and make friends of other sexual natures even though you may want no part of them?
  • Let us know about your pet peeves or other things that bother you. Fetishes you do not like, styles you can not appreciate and attitudes that annoy you are all valid answers here.
  • Are you new to role playing? If so, would you like someone to help you get more involved? If you are experienced, are you familiar with adult role playing, and do you play any systems such as Dungeons and Dragons? Please elaborate.
  • Elaborate on what you consider a roleplaying partner to be. If you are new to role playing, what are you expecting? If you are experienced, what do you consider a partner to be?
  • What are your reasons for joining Elliquiy? What do you want to find, and what do you expect to find? What do you look for in an on-line community, in general? Please be descriptive.
  • As part of the application process, would you prefer crazy questions, a writing prompt, both or neither? Our members have a habit of asking lots of questions of people like yourself. Since this became a burden for some while others loved it, it is now optional.
    • If you want the parade of of questions, say "Yes, bring on the parade of crazy questions!" or something to that effect. :)
    • A more recent trend has been to ask for a custom writing sample based on provided details. If you would like to participate in this, say "Yes, bring on the crazy writing requests!"
  • Do you have any questions of us? If you have any questions or desires of us in a more direct fashion, please feel free to let us know.

Writing quality is noted, but not judged. Etiquette IS judged. While we adore good writers, we are looking for mature writers. Someone who considers themselves 'elite' may very well not pass muster here. At the same time, someone who can barely put two sentences together in a post may be quite welcome.

We have members who produce pages for every post, and members who frequently make only a few sentences in a post. Both extremes are welcome here. If you are curious about what we are looking for, here are the basics of our guidelines:

  • Treat other members with respect. This is covered, in detail, in the rules. This includes the mentors and other staff of the site.
  • Be patient. It takes time to get in. There is plenty to participate in on the public forums while you wait, and we encourage this. Make friends!

There is a minimum of 72 hours between your first post in the introduction forum and approval, but more than likely it will take several days. This is to help you meet more people that may interest you, and in part because of the flood of introductions we are getting as of late.

There are things that may make you uncomfortable here. Content is clearly sectioned, but if a particular subject does not interest you, please stay out of its section. Thank you.

Avoid placing graphic material, links, e-mails or other contact information in your introductions or other public areas. Also, if you wish to discuss matters in semi-private with a moderator, go to the Unapproved forums and post a topic there (due to abuse we had to disable the reading and writing of Private Messages for guests).

Please title and make your answers clear, so that we can find them - some people color code their answers to the questions, quote the message, or respond by number. Doing one of these things is helpful and appreciated. Multi-phrase answers are also appreciated - your are describing a facet of yourself, here, and if you can't bring yourself to express who you are in better than a score or so of words, how shallow does that make you?

Note: Unapproved members cannot edit or delete posts.

You will notice, in the rules, that Elliquiy does not have a post length minimum, unlike some other role-playing sites. That isn't going to change - some members here enjoy vivid detail, others prefer pithiness. We extol the virtues of both, here. However, you should be able to be descriptive where the situation warrants.

Things that will delay approval.
  • Sharing an IP address with someone else. We frown on duplicate accounts so require some convincing that you are at least two people.
  • Misbehaving or otherwise creeping members out. This can delay approval indefinitely if bad enough.
  • If we find out you are under eighteen, you aren't getting in until you are.
  • We do not approve members with only a single post. We expect you to be able to hold a conversation.
  • Impatience may convince us that you need to learn some.
  • You did not answer each of the questions.
  • You did not convince us that you are mentally mature.
  • Vacations, illness or absences by the administrative staff.

If you start misbehaving soon after approval, your membership may be revoked. Please ask a staff member for clarifications if needed.

Thank you for your stay and we hope you will have an absolutely wonderful time here!
